Slowness opening Acobat Reader 8.1.1 on Terminal Services

When trying to open any size PDF, Reader (8.1.1) takes an extremely long time to open the file. This is in a Terminal server enviornment so we do have certain features disabled such as the updater and kinkos.
The users are claiming anywhere from 40 seconds to several minutes. I'm unable to recreate since I do not use the environment like they do and it tends to be the more they open PDFs the slow it gets. I have seen a user try and open a 34k file and it took about 40 seconds to open and then trying to scroll is slow also.
I have found that if I reset the users profile it will allievate the problem for a day and then start all over again.

It could be that the Printer Setting has been set to ensure that the Duplex Printing would no longer be applied and its overriding the Printer Dialog settings.
You could check the Printer setting to ensure that duplex printing is enabled.

Solution for Slow Open and Save As Dialogs under 10.4.4

I don't know how many others out there may be experiencing this, but...
I noticed that -- after updating to 10.4.4 -- I started getting really long delays when accessing Open and Save As file dialogs -- I mean, sometimes it would take 5 to 15 seconds for the dialog to appear!
I did a lot of troubleshooting, and finally hit upon the solution a couple of nights ago:
It's the Desktop iDisk!
Going into the .Mac Preference Pane and turning off "iDisk Syncing" has totally eliminated the slowdown.
I think it has something to do with DiskMirrorAgent, since that has frozen on me a couple of times and prevented logoff until I force-quit it.

One can always manually mount the iDisk when needed, and it still syncs, albeit in real time, and kind of herky-jerky.
As for the slowdown when multiple items are mounted, I believe I'm describing a different issue, related to DiskMirrorAgent. If and when you get this slowdown (with desktop iDisk syncing enabled), check Activity Monitor, and you'll see DiskMirrrorAgent sucking up most of the CPU time for the time it takes before the dialog appears. My record time was about 25 seconds.
As for slow Open and Save As dialogs when multiple items are mounted: I customarily have several external FireWire drives mounted, and often a couple of CDs and/or DVDs (I produce a radio program, and have several optical drives), and I have had no Open or Save As dialog slowdowns since at least 10.3.x, maybe earlier.
Even when the dialog opens to a directory on a CD that has spun down, the opening time on an Open or Save As dialog is nearly instantaneous for me, suggesting that Mac OS X 10.4.x is doing a good job of caching the data.
But I hear you about the "old days," when it used to take forever to get a dialog to appear, just because a CD was mounted! Maddening!

Problems with Firefox 7.0.1 , gmail and MacOSX 10.6.8---gmail not working-can't select, open and read mail!!! help---anyone?

I can select and delete, but not open and read...
things are working mighty slow since installing 7.0.1 Firefox upgrade....and losing access to reading gmail is just the last straw.
Also having issues with non-responsive script messages in same gmail window, huge time lags, some flash plug in error messages (yes three times I have downloaded and reinstalled the latest flash player)....hating 7.0.1 right now mightily....

Very slow open cr2-photos

After update to os x 10.9 mavericks, my macbook is very slow open CR2-files. In Quick-look or Preview.app - i have slowdown about 5sec, then photo opens. At 10.8 similar photos open instantly. Seems like something broke after update. My config: Macbook Pro 13" with Retina, Core i7 3GHz, 8Gb RAM, Intel HD 4000. Have ideas?

I am having the exact same problem after just updating to OS X Mavericks. CR2 files take ages before they are shown. In 10.8 these exact same photos loaded very quickly (instantly). In Adobe Bridge these photos show up quickly as well.
I am running a 13" Macbook Pro, Mid 2010 with 8GB of RAM, 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.
Since I use my laptop mainly for photo editing, this is very frustrating. Hopefully there will be a fix soon enough.

Why do attachments in Word open as "read only"?

Using Apple Mail, all Word document attachments open as "read-only" even if they were sent as read-write or plain .doc files. I have to save as some other file name in order to save them or edit them.
How do I eliminate this problem?

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work.

If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode. Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the grey Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal.

If this issue is occurred by a *.xlsx file or other files? Did you enable the Share Workbook option for you workbook? And if only you get this issue, or other users also have this problem?

It seems that Office File Validation (OFV) causes the issue, you can download and install the Office 2010 File Validation update to help you solve the issue.

The workaround about this kind of issue is to delete the custom views that you do not need. Then, clear the Print settings check box under the Include in personal view heading in the Share Workbook dialog box. Or, use Excel Services and Microsoft SharePoint
instead of the Share Workbook option.
And the issue also might be related to Internet Explorer performing a search of network drives and your local area network and any disconnected network drives or LAN search issues will hang the loading of your Excel spreadsheet. Here is how to stop Excel
2010 from browsing your LAN / Network drives when you open an Excel spreadsheet on your local hard drive:
Start Internet Explorer
Go to "Tools" menu
Go to "Internet Options"
Go to "Security" tab
Go to "Local Intranet"
Click on "Sites" button

In some mailboxes, very slow opening/deleting emails. In other mailboxes it works just fine

In my inbox, very slow opening some (not all) emails. To delete the problem emails takes 40-50 seconds. Also, I keep marking many emails as "junk" and yet I keep getting maile from those spam senders. Also, these problems happen in some of my local folders, but not in all of them?? Had no problem with prior version

Aperture suddenly becomes very slow opening library

Hi.
I've got only 100 or so photos, and Aperture suddenly becomes very slow, it take a couple of minutes now to open the library.
Just before this started to happen, I got a very short massage, saying something like, "It's repairing some files."
I wonder if there are some corrupt files there, causing very slow opening the program.
Is there any way to check this and fix this problem?
I'm using 3.4.3, and OS 10.8.3.

I'm surprised nobody has responded to this yet. Hopefully you have already figured it out, but if you double click on the aperture library while holding down the option and command keys, Aperture will bring up a dialog that gives you three options for dealing with potential library issues: repair permissions, repair the library or rebuild the library. You should try them in that order, and it is a good idea to back up your library first (especially before rebuilding the library).

I ran system software upgrades recently, could this cause conflict with CS4? Photoshop does not act this way at all. We are a gift manufacturing company and some of our files are relatively large. I ran disc utilities to repair permissions and still slow opening.

I've noticed the same thing with .tif files. It's taking a good minitue or more to save a 15 meg .tif. Very annoying. I opened PS4 and converted the same .jpg to a .tif and saved it in the same location and it took about 4 seconds. Something is totally jacked with saving files in CC.
Checked the compression settings and the are the same in both. Not a big fan of CC everything is slower. I pay monthly now to work slower?!? May have to go back to CS4.

Slow opening of files

When I open a raw file the first time I open CS5, it takes about 30 seconds. Subsequent files are quick. Has anyone had this problem?

From memory I believe there were a few things that changed, both in Windows 7 and Office 2010 that can have an impact on the time taken to open a document over a network connection. They mostly relate to additional protections designed to scan the document
for anything dodgy before opening, but in the case of Office, since it does the scan over the network it takes longer to open a network document than older versions, or than opening it locally.

setup), so hard to judge what it might be in your case.
Since you say that copying the files over the network works correctly this sounds like the issue. Presumably once on the local machine you also don't see any speed issues opening the documents on the newer setups?

Having mail problem very slow opening, deleting, unable to move to folders

Have a 2 GHz Intel Core Duo Mac OS X Ver. 10.6.8 - Having AppleMail problems: very very very slow opening any new incoming mail, can't delete, can't assign to Spam, and can't move to any folder for storing, and can't empty trash. Seems to be corrupted and might need to reload the Mail Program (Version 4.6) and need to know if I can reload the mail program and if I did would I lose all the data stored in folders? I don't know how to reload the Mail program. Also the entire computer seems to be slow to react as well but mail is worse. I've checked and emptied caches for the browsers I use. Connecting to Internet all right but as I said, slow to react. I would appreciate any advice. Thank you.

MichelPM, I don’t know how to find out how full is my Mail app. I confess to being mostly an ignoramus about computer hardware, software, applications storage and usage. I know where to look for some stuff, but I don’t know what all the information means. I found the page under About this Mac Serial-ATA that gives the following info: Macintosh HD:

I usually have three browsers open and one to two wordprocessers (Word and TextEdit), the resident Dictionary. When needed but closed when done with the current activity are Preview, Adobe Reader. I do have a lot of documents on the desktop and filed in folders are uncountable. I could commit most of these to flashdrives if I have to, but I’m not sure how to save all the stuff I have in folders in the Mail app. I do not run any antivirus or “crapware” software that I can find in the MacHD applications folder. I’ve never downloaded such programs. I will commence to copy to external drives data I wish to preserve. Can I copy the entire mail set of archive folders to an external hard drive? I have a La Cie.

ID CS5 (7.0.4) painfully slow opening print dialog box

I've been having this issue for quite some time and finally getting around to finding out what's going on.
I counted 38 seconds between the time I hit Control-P, and the time the print dialog box opens up. ID looks like it has hung up until it finally opens the print dialog box.
Edit: meant to say that my documents are all very simple text-based pages with a simple letterhead graphic file embedded, 5-6 pages usually.
Any suggestions on how to fix this, such a lot of wasted time waiting.

That would be MY first step. It takes no real time and will eliminate it as a possibility. Next thing I would do is trash prefs: see Replace Your Preferences
If neither of those works, I'm not sure what I would do next... Perhaps have a look at what else is running that could be slowing things down.

Abobe form with 2d barcode moves very slow in Adobe reader 8

I have created a 2d barcode form in designer 8 the form is a two page form with four barcodes to capture the data. The barcodes are on the second page. The form works fine if you open it in Adobe pro but slow down and you see the hour glass appearing once you move the mouse over any field when it is open in reader. I have saved the form with no embeded fonts. Is there a setting i am missing for the barcode set up.

Kofax did send us some error checking to put in the code see below.
But when I tried it with the raw.Value without the field names it goes to one field that thats takes all the data. The workflow does not put the fields in the AC index fields because there are no field names.
What will I need to do to modify the code.
This is really getting very difficult and I have a deadline. Is it possible to do the connect web session as you suggested.
