SLP doesn't fallback when DA is not contactable
Hi,
This is not a new issue by any means but I need to revisit it.
The user cannot login to local server when the SLPDA is not contactable.
Server - NetWare 6.5 SP8 +
Client - WinXP SP3+ with Novell Client 4.91 SP5 IR1+
Multisite WAN with local site servers.
Local site has own partition with local users in it.
Local site servers do NOT run DNS server.
Two main sites have SLPDA with scope
Three main sites have DNS Servers
All servers register into this Scope
All clients use SLPDAs, static scope, and have one static SLPDA listed (as a failsafe) with both SLPDAs listed by DHCP option.
When the WAN links are up, all is good. SLPINFO /ALL shows all is well.
When the WAN links are down, local users cannot login to local server (Tree / Server not found).
Entering the IP Address of the server will allow them to login - which I believe proves it is an SLP issue.
Sometimes - doing a workstation login THEN a Novell login will allow the user to login when the WAN link is down.
My understanding is the UA (Novell Client in this case) should try contacting the DA, fail, then multicast for any SAs. The local NetWare Server should respond as an SA allowing local login.
What am I missing ?

Hi Ian,
In the SLP configuration of the Novell Client properties as configured on the workstation.. is the static box next to the DA entry ticked too? IIRC this will disable the client doing any multicast queries.
If you have ticked the static box, try un-ticking it. You could test by talking out the route to the other WAN sites for the test workstation you are using.

How do you remove an apple id when you can not contact the previous user?
I am working with a local Pawn shop that purchased an ipad from an indavidual. They restored the ipad and apparently, the contact info from the user is bogus. So, is there any way to get the apple id removed when you can not contact the previous owner? I have the serial number and any other info that may be needed.
No, there is no way to remove the previous user ID. If the previous owners information was bogus the iPad is likely stolen.

JPopupMenu doesn't work when invoker is not a Swing JComponent ??
I've written some code that uses a java.awt.Canvas to draw some stuff, and I want to be able to bring up a popup menu over the canvas.
The problem is that when I try to show the popup menu with my Canvas as the invoker nothing happens: no popup menu appears.
I also have problems with other AWT components (e.g. with java.awt.TextArea the popup comes up with two clicks but gets hidden behinf the popup that TextArea decides to provide).
However everything works fine when I use a Swing widget (e.g. JTextArea or JPanel) as the invoker of my popup menu.
Is this a bug or an undocumented feature?
The JPopupMenu.show(...) method will happily accept any AWT Component as the invoker. Also the API documentation says nothing on this issue. Also the Swing tutorials doesn't say anything about this.
I'm tempted to conclude this is an undocumented feature, but that suprises me. Surely I'm not the first person to try and use JPopupMenu with an AWT widget as invoker? Before I file a bug report, can someone tell me if I'm missing something here?
I have some code to demonstrate this; all you have to do is comment one line and uncomment another to repoduce this behaviour. Let me know if you would like me to post it.Quick followup for anyone reading this topic:
The suggestion of using JPanel and overriding paintComponent(...) is the way to go. I had thought of doing this to begin with, but felt it would be more effort. It's not. It's the same effort as using AWT canvas, but gives better results, and doesn't stuff up JPopupMenu or anything else that wants to interact with a lightweight component. -
Auto-scrolling doesn't work when JFrame is not visible
Hi, I have auto-scrolling implemented for my JTextPane that sits in JScrollPane - which lives in JInternalFrame. It works as excepted - as long as my application's JFrame is visible. When the JFrame becomes invisible, auto-scrolling simply doesn't work anymore.
I've overcame this by scrolling down in "windowShown", but it's ugly because the user can visually see the scroll down when using this workaround (it jumps).
I guess this is Swing's optimization, but I would really like to overcome it in someway. But it seems I'm not enough a swing hacker to do it.
One thing to note is thtat, the auto-scrolling works fine when the JInternalFrame is NOT visible, but frame is.
I've tried to override the isShowing-method of JInternalFrame, with no luck.
Here's my scrolling method:

Adding scrollBar.setValue() seemed to 'just fix it'. It actually seems to be superfluous now.
The scrolling is already wrapped in SwingUtilities.invokeLater() - in conjuction with printing text into the JTextPane and it works OK.
I had some wrong info in the first post, the viewport actually does get scrolled down even when the JFrame is not visible. And by visible I mean JFrame.setVisible(false) - my application has a minimize-to-tray feature, which hides the JFrame.
So I think the problem is 'just' a repainting problem. When the frame is shown, the previous scroll location is first displayed, and then a repaint is triggered that causes the 'jump down'.
I'm not still sure how to fix it though. -
Update firefox, it asked me to update flash, I tried to update flash but it said I had to close firefox. A box came up and said the Flash install would continue when I closed firefox. I closed all firefox windows and no update of flash occurred. I tried relaunching firefox but got the "Doesn't start when starting as administrator. Error Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system." message. I rebooted the system, no improvement. I tried to run firefox as administrator and got the same message. Either I find a fix or I won't be able to use firefox and will have to go back to ie.

my phone doesn't ring when someone is calling, but the sound works otherwise, like the alarm etc. I have tried to fix it in settings but still not working. anyone else have this problem?
Thanks so much but none of that helped. It was driving me crazy because it would back up another external drive. I just changed the name of the drive from iPhoto/iTunes Library to Media Libraries and IT WORKED!! I guess for some reason it didn't like the drive being called iPhoto or iTunes ???? I don't understand but I have tried so many solutions and exchanging things out but the name change did it????!!!

Recently my alarm hasn't been going off on my phone when it is plugged into the charger. This is a problem as i have work most mornings and have been late. When it is not plugged in the alarm works. I know it would mae sense to charge it before i go to sleep, take it off the charger, set the alarm then wake up but was just wondering if there was any reason why I might be experiencing this issue?

when did this happen? if it just happened, then something probably went wrong with either the software or the hardware
do charge the proper way, and see if it happens again
or try completely draining the battery, and charge it to 100% and see if its gonna solve the issue with the alarm -
My i pad hang on with information of icloud back up with informtion of "this ipad hasn't been backed up in three weeks. backups happen when this pad is plugged in, locked and connected to wifi" and doesn't close when press ok button and still hangon. I am not able to switched off also. How to remove popoup note and entering into ipad applications.
Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds or so and see if it reboots.

My phone randomly doesn't ring when people call and not sound the text alert. I checked all the settings and them seem to be correct. Sometimes it rings, many times it doesn't. I have missed several calls. Same with texts. Anyone know how to fix this?

I just got the solution (that worked for me, anyway) from a Sony support rep. No PC or VMWare needed.
OK, you've installed Sony eBook Library v3, and Adobe Digital editions, you've set up your acocunts and authorized your computer on both of them, and you've authorized your Reader with the Sony Library application.
You go to the public library ebook download page, either through the Sony Library or just through a bookmark.
You check out a book, and open it in Adobe Digital Editions, which still won't recognize your Reader.
BUT, in the Sony Library app, you can now click "File, Import.." and go find the pdf you downloaded with the Adobe app.
On my Mac, it was in ~/Documents/Digital Editions
Import it, and drag it to your Reader.
The first time you do this, it will ask you to authorize the Reader with your Adobe ID.
Worked like a charm. -

Asking the Bridge Team: Bridge "working color space" setting when one does not have the Suite?
Common sense tells me there is really no such thing as a
"working color space" in Bridge, because
Bridge is not an image editor, just a browser
Therefore, this may turn out to be a purely academic question; but that doesn't keep my curiosity from forcing me to ask it anyway. ;)

"color settings" when one does not have the suite?
The only Adobe program I keep up to date is Photoshop, so I've never had the suite. My version of Photoshop is 11 (CS4) and I run updated
(not upgraded) versions of Adobe Acrobat 7.x, Illustrator 10.x and InDesign 2.x. Consequently, the Synchronize color settings command is not available to me.
It seems to me that Bridge is behaving like a proper color-managed browser (e.g. Firefox with color management enabled), in that it displays tagged image files correctly and assumes sRGB for untagged image files. This normally works fine.
But what if I wanted Bridge to assume my
Photoshop color working space for untagged images
so that it behaves the same as Photoshop? I'm just curious, as I deal with a minuscule, practically negligible amount of untagged files.
My reason for bringing it up now is that I don't recall this being explicitly mentioned in forum replies when users inquire about color settings in Bridge. A recent post regarding Version Cue in the Photoshop Macintosh forum got me thinking about this. Just wanting to make sure that I'm right in my assumption that

Thanks for sharing the outcome of your tests. However, I may have found a bug/exception to Bridge's colour management policy!
It appears that CMYK EPS photoshop files are not colour managed in Adobe Bridge, even if they contain an embedded ICC profile.
I've tried every combination in the EPS 'Save As' dialogue box, so it doesn't seem to be an issue with file encoding. Also, Bridge doesn't rely on the low-res preview that is held within the EPS itself.
My guess is that Bridge is previewing the CMYK EPS with a Bridge-generated RGB image, but it's being displayed as monitor RGB (assigned) rather than colour managed (converted to monitor RGB). For most users the difference will be barely perceptible, but the problem became very noticeable when using Bridge to preview Newsprint CMYK images on a wide-gamut monitor (images that should have appeared muted really leapt off the screen!).
How do I report this to the Colour Police at Adobe?!? -

why am i being charged ($1.05 on several occations ) when i did not buy anything, just downloaded free apps and sometimes i have updated few of those free apps.
all i see is charges our of no where! it doesn't happen every time i do a free download (games. etc,,).. and am sure what i download is from 'top free

Apple "veriifes" your Apple ID account information everytime you download media whether free or paid thus the authorization hold. Your account will be credited the amount of the holds usually within 24 to 48 hours.
