Sluggish ipod

My ipod is being a little b*tch. lol. She's running extremely slow. She even got the folder with the explanation point with www.apple/ipod/support too. She is able to go into disk mode but when I try to scroll down she's slow as ****. I've already dumped off a bunch of songs. She has 3388 songs (MP3s), she's used up 18.5 GB with 3.4 GB left. I've charged her, updated her and she's okay for now. The only option I have other than NOT USE HER AS MUCH is to dump off more songs and or restore her.
any thoughts anyone? thanks a bunch
cOOkiEE needs help. she's sick and wants to go fast again.

Yeah, I've been having the same problem as well. I have a 160 gig classic with the newest update, and it's about 85% full with mostly music, and some videos. The iPod will stall in the middle of songs. Sometimes more frequent than others. It will also stall several times during movies as well. I'm not sure what gives. I've wiped the drive and reformatted, and it helped, but now it's worse than it has ever been. My iPod video and 3rd gen. never had this issue.

  • Upgraded iPod Touch to v2.2.1, but feels slow/sluggish.

    Hello.
I just upgraded my client's two years(?) old iPod Touch to v2.2.1 tonight on his MacBook Pro (Mac OS X 10.5.8 with all updates). He hasn't updated its software for about a year or so he said, and this version was free. He also hasn't synchronized his iPod Touch for a year too (crazy, I know). Anyways, the upgrade and synchronizations were successful, but iPod Touch feels slower/sluggish like in e-mails, Safari, etc.
Is this normal? We didn't try reverting back to defaults. Thank you in advance.

Thanks. I forgot to mention that this is an older model that doesn't have 3G. Only wireless for Internet access. And I forgot to follow-up too. It seems OK now. It was weird right after the upgrade and using it, everything felt slower and sluggish. Everything still seems to be still intact and working though.
If it happens again, then I will try your ideas.

I don't recall seeing reduced performance from 2.2.1, in fact I've reverted my 2G Touch back to 2.2.1 from 4.0. Have you tried the basics like:
    o Power OFF/ON
    o Reset
    o Restore from backup
o Restore as a new iPod
Start with the higher steps first to see if you get better performance.

  • 5g iPod seems sluggish

I just got a new 5g iPod and compared to my old 4g iPod (20gb), the 5g seems a lot more sluggish. The buttons are not as responsive and it sometimes lags when scrolling. Any ideas on what could be slowing my new iPod down?

Yeah, compared to my ipod mini, it takes longer to do everything on my 5G one.

  • IPod 3G Interface Seems Sluggish

    Hi,
I noticed this recently, my 2 years old iPod 3G 40GB's interface seems a bit slow and sluggish. The transition between menus is not as smooth as it was before. Is this because I need to reformat it once in a while? (I never reformat my iPod, only updating the software whenever there's an update) I mainly use it for both listening to music and as an external hard disk on daily basis. Could that be the factor for the sluggishness too? Thanks.

    Try:
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • IPod Won't Play Songs, Videos Reset it, and it's Quite Sluggish

I have a 30GB video iPod (the old version). Everything was working fine until a few days ago, when the power on my iPod ran out because I fell asleep while listening to it. The next day when I turned it on, it said "Connect to your Computer, Use iTunes to restore" So I promptly did that, and it worked fine until I tried to play a video on it. It showed a blank screen, so I reset it by pressing the Menu and Center buttons. Then it showed the "Connect to your computer" screen again. So I restored it, and it would be fine until it locked up again and showed the "Connect to your computer screen" again. I left it alone for about eight hours, and when I tried turning it back on again, it was back to normal.I've seen that screen probably 10 times in the past 4 days, and I've restored it, just as many times.
Here's the list of problems I'm having:
    - the iPod won't play some songs when I click on them. It will show the Playing triangle in the upper left corner, but I hear no sound and the seeking bar doesn't move. I'll often have to click the Pause button, then hit it again to Play it, and then it will play the song.
    - The iPod is extremely slow. When dealing with songs or videos, it often takes a minute or more for the iPod to respond to my button clicks. Its hard drive isn't full, though; in fact I'm only using about 2 GB.
    - Videos lock up the iPod. Just about any time I want to play I video on it, it will show a blank screen and won't respond. Then I have to reset it and I get the "Connect to your computer" screen again. These aren't videos in the wrong format or anything, these are the same videos I've been playing on my iPod before with no problems, until recently.
    - Battery life is horrible. Although it hasn't been fully drained yet, judging from the power meter and how long I've been using it after it's fully charged, I'd guess it would only last about 2-3 hours. I would think it should last considerably longer, as the iPod is only about 3 months old.
Has anybody been experiencing similar problems, or know what I can do to fix it?

I've still had the same problems, but now when I try and turn on my ipod, it tells me to restore. When I do go to restore, itunes says that it cannot find the file needed to restore my ipod. The ipod itself also tried resetting itself, I guess, made it to the menu that asked what language I wanted it in, and then restarted again. This went on for an hour and a half, and I could't do anything. Is my ipod a lost cause?

  • Selecting media to sync to iPod Nano causes iTunes to become sluggish and freeze.

For the past few months I've noticed that when I update the content on my 6th Gen iPod Nano iTunes will freeze after I switch from music to audiobooks, or anything for that matter.  The same issue happens when I try to select specific artists, or an audiobook.

  • 160 GB iPod a bit sluggish.......

when opening up my photo menu from the main menu. It will begin to open the photo menu, then pause midway, then two seconds later, it will complete loading and display the menu in it's entirety. What's up? Anybody else having this problem?

Yes, indeed, I could be wrong. I just read another post commenting on the constant rebooting problem some people are experiencing, only to discover an interesting problem with "EQ" settings within iTunes. I then followed one poster's suggestion to remove all equalization options for iTunes songs, put my iPod 160 into "Disk Mode," re-sync iTunes to iPod, and then re-set the iPod.
Did all that . . . and I'll be danged if my iPod isn't snappier than all get-out! No recalculation times! No untoward and unexpected pauses! None of that bother!
I still do have one serious reservation about the "On-The-Go" functions not playing songs correctly, but that's for another thread.

  • IPod touch 5 lag issue running iOS 8.1 ( PLEASE RESOLVE THIS ASAP)

OMG, i'm just fed up of using this iPod 5 after this new update of apple's iOS 8.1.  I did checkout iOS 8.1.1 but as it bought no changes to the performance i just downgraded it back to iOS 8.1. Well performance really matters on a device. The day i updated it to iOS 8, my iPod 5's performance has been sluggish and worse when compared to the old iOS 7.1.2 . If i had chance to downgrade it now i would do it asap but unfortunately there isn't any way but to suffer with this new sluggish iOS 8.1. If there is someway that apple can help us then its by increasing the performance on such A5 devices like iPhone 4S, iPad..., iPod touch 5, then please help us. If i ask this question "Is there anyway to increase or speed up my performance of my iPod 5", Then the reply from you people would be to either buy a new device by dumping this or to remove background apps, reduce motion etc. (WHICH I HAVE ALREADY DONE.) and the performance is WORSE or UNBEARABLE  on this device after updating to iOS 8 - iOS 8.1. When i just tap settings it takes about 3 - 4 secs or more to show up which is too bad. Please try to solve this issue on older devices running A5 chip by either giving us an another opportunity to downgrade to iOS 6 or 7 (PLEASE) or by improving this current OS performance issue just like iOS 7. I request you to solve this issues for the people like us who are an APPLE fan and still using devices running A5 chip and we just like it so much but please don't let us hate it by making it's performance worse. Yes, i do know that the all new iOS 8 was made for the newer devices running new CHIP, but then why did the update just come up for devices running A5 chip then if it would ruin the performance? Or was this is a marketing strategy to make our device's performance unbearable and worse so we hate it and buy a new device so you can increase your sales? Everyone cannot afford a device just like that as time goes. I further pledge you people to solve this sluggish performance issue on these older device who got this iOS 8 updates (RUNNING A5 chip).

  • Why does my iPod touch running iOS 8.1.2 drain very rapidly below half a battery and dies at roughly 10%? Wifi is off. So is location services, Bluetooth, etc.

The battery on my iPod touch has been acting very weird and I don't know why. I just got this iPod two weeks ago for christmas. When the battery gets down to half a battery, weird things start to happen. The battery drops 15,20,25% in the matter of minutes. On top of this, my iPod touch always dies at 10%. Any battery-consuming feature is off so I can't explain what is happening. Is it a defective batter?

  • IPod 5G Freezes during Video Playback

iPod freezes during video playback. Does anybody else have this problem?
Usually freezes up about 10 minutes into a video, and then complety locks up. This usually requires 2 to 3 restarts untill it comes back working properly.

Mine does the same. It really only happens to me when I try to navigate thru menus when video is playing. I usually have to do a forced Reset. I truly think that introducing video on the iPod was not ready for primetime as it is very sluggish, buggy and sensitive during playbabck of video. No problems with music whatsoever but I am frustrated with the very finicky video qualities of this thing.

  • I can't sync music and get an error message when I plug in my iPod

I've had my iPod for a year or so, and mostly things have been fine. The battery-life was dying more quickly than usual, so I went to the Apple Store and got one of the salespeople to help me. They told me to Restore the iPod and see how it went from there. After a complete fiasco with that, I keep trying to plug in my iPod to update my library. However, when I plug it in, the iPod only flashes the charging button, and iTunes is unresponsive and sluggish for several minutes. Then a message pops up that says "The iPod 'iPod' cannot be synced. The required disc cannot be found."
I have repeatedly gotten this message and really don't know what to do. Any help would be appreciated......

You can also try out few things >
    1) check if the ipod constantly appears in mycomputer section .
    - if it does try changing the drive letter of the ipod and try to format the ipod drive(Right click format)
    2) if its not comin up in mycomputer then.. there has to be problem with the USB drivers in your computer

The best way to check whether the ipod is faulty or the computer is creating the problem is,
connect the ipod to a different computer which has itunes on it(If possible)

  • Itunes not responding when ipod is connected.

first i should say that my ipod has been acting slow the past couple days. if i'm scrolling through songs it will frequently freeze for a few seconds before moving on to the next song that i scrolled to. plugging my ipod into my computer last night i noticed my itunes page was black with a few words showing. after fiddling with it for awhile i unplugged my ipod and the itunes screen disappeared as soon as i did. today when i turned on my computer, with my ipod already connected, the black itunes screen appeared again. this did not make any of my computers other functions slower.. it was just annoying as i couldn't minimize it or exit the program. i went to task manager to try to end program but that didn't work. again i simply unplugged my ipod and the screen went away as soon as i did. i brought up itunes without the ipod connected and it came up fine, it plays music, and it runs smooth, but as soon as i connect the ipod it will freeze and i can't do anything until i disconnect. i'm not sure how to fix this problem and with the sluggish-ness of my ipod before i connected i started thinking maybe my ipod has a bug. i have the latest version of itunes installed, and i have vista on my computer. any help would be appreciated! thanks!

after letting it sit for awhile my itunes finally decided to work, but it's running very slow, especially when i try to put any music from my library onto my ipod.

  • My iPod shuffle is not found in iTunes but is found on Windows

Ok here is my problem. When I purchased my iPod I loaded the iTunes program onto my computer from the disk that was included. For awhile I was able to import songs and add them to my iPod. After a few weeks I tried to add more songs to my iPod but when I connected it to the USB port in the back of my computer the iTunes program said there was not an iPod connected. At that time I did all of the 5 R's and eventually iTunes recognized my iPod and I was able to add my songs back to it. When I tried to add songs a few weeks later it did the same thing. I have tried every USB port that is located on my computer and it still does not show in iTunes. I have done ALL of the 5 R's. I have deleted the iTunes program and everything associated with it and reloaded it again (I have done this 3-4 times). My iPod is showing up in Windows but it is not showing up in iTunes. I have looked at all the manuals online and done everything they have told me to do and I still can't get this thing to work. So now I have an iPod with no music on it and can't get the program to acknowledge my iPod. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

    Question -
When you say your iPod is recognized by MyComputer, is it showing as an Apple iPod or a Removable Disk?
You might want to try restoring the iPod once more, and if it doesn't correct the issue or if you're unable to restore, you can go ahead and format the iPod through Windows. Doing so will erase everything on the iPod, however, it normally allows iTunes to recognize it right away.
To reformat the iPod through Windows:
-Connect the iPod and wait for it to be recognized in My Computer.
-Right Click on the iPod's icon in My Computer, whether it is an Apple iPod or a Removable Disk.
    -Click on Format
    -Click on QuickFormat
    -Click on Start
When it is complete, iTunes should open more or less automatically with the iPod Setup Assistant, where you can rename it and sync files to it.
**Note: Sometimes, when going through this, your computer will become extremely sluggish. It is important to be patient, and not click on the buttons more than once.
    Good luck!

  • Brand new iPod touch will not turn on. Goes straight to dead battery screen.

    Hello.
I recently purchased a refurbished iPod touch to develop apps on. I have had the iPod touch for about a week and last night the iPod suddenly shut off in the middle of use. The battery was low so I figured it was simply a dead battery and I went to plug it into the charger. This morning, I tried to turn it back on after about 10 hours of charging and I got the same dead battery plug in charger screen. I then swichted it to a usb slot on my macbook and left it to charge all day for about 9 hours. Again, I turned it on and nothing, just a dead battery screen. Both usb slots on my computer are working completely fine for my other devicesbut not this. I have also tried plugging it into the wall, but I get the same results. One other possibility is that I have the iOS 8 Beta on my phone currently and I have experienced some issues with that, but not enough to brick my device...or at least I thought. I have only had this device for a few days and so far I am very disappointed that this has happened already. If anyone can help me out without having to go to an Apple store for service that would be great!
    Thanks

So did you iPod 5th gen worked again? I had similar experience. This is my own iPod (not refurbished), so I know it was
in great condition (I rarely used it but only for dev). I installed iOS8 Beta, and one morning, the screen won't turn on.
I plugged in power and nothing happened. After a few min, I heard that characteristic "power beep" and thankfully,
it came back to live. What I noticed is that I have > 90% power. So whatever happened, it isnt because it's low in
    battery.
I have a suspicion it is entirely due to iOS 8 beta. Such a thing never happened to my iPod till the day I installed it.
My theory is that it is doing something busy, or there's a bug in the "waking" mechanism, and become extremely
sluggish to any external input, until it is done with whatever mysterious things it was doing. I am now putting it
in air plane mode whenever i don't need it, and also turn off icloud back up. Hopefully, I don't see this anymore.
