Sluggish playback of local presentation deployed on DMP 4400 (5.2.2)

Deployed my presentation (consisting of a playlist containing a few images) to the local storage on the DMP 4400. After directing the DMP to play the content from the generated go to URL, the screen draws are very slow. The images are not large, and I made sure they were saved as non-progressive jpgs. I've found suggestions for other folks having a similar problem, but none of the suggestions seem to work for my case. Streaming the content from the DMM, at this point, allows a much smoother signage experience. Any ideas how I can improve the performace of the local content playback?

Thanks for the response! In fact you're right, a HEAD request is sometimes issued for the target URL. Upon a new load of the URL (in my case, I have it as part of a playlist), a GET seems to be always issued. This is fine (though perhaps not optimal).
The crux of the issue is all of the assets of the page (in my case, a number of image files) are NOT checked. So if I swap the image files (while preserving the name), the same old image is stuck in the cache of the DMP indefinitely.
With the NTP capabilties in 5.2.2, I'd like to suggest consideration of the if-modified-since attribute in a GET instead of the current HEAD-based checking (or perhaps in conjunction with). In addition (and more importantly), it is important to check all of the assets of an HTML page, not just the page itself.
I'll be happy to open a TAC case if this is the recommended course of action - I wasn't sure as I think this may be more of a feature request than a bug fix (although clearly without checking assets of an HTML page I would suggest caching is fundamentally broken).

DMP-4400, rs232 commands not being sent to device

Recently we had deployed 16 DMP-4400 attached to televisions in our environment. All of them are configured identically, and have the same model of TVs attached to them. Four of them refuse to pass rs232 commands to the attached TVs, and are much slower to load the content to be displayed, a significant difference in loading time. Disabling the rs232 allows the content to load at a normal speed.
I have replaced the rs232 cables, wiped out the configuration and reconfigured.
The rs232 is being enabled with the following command:

Firmware version 5.2.3
The rs232 parameters from the DMP:

When sending a command the rs232.tx_hex string should populate, and the rs232.tx_cnt should increase in value, these values never change. The commands are being sent from DMM version 5.3 and work on the 12 other DMPs that are in place. Connecting a rs232 sniffer also shows that nothing was sent from the DMP.
Anyone have any ideas?

It seems impossible to purchase RS232 cables with the correct pinout, everyone sales the cable with "RS232 null modem with full handshaking". For this you need the "Simple RS232 null modem without handshaking", which only uses the 3 pins, 2, 3, and 5.
I ended up making my own cables, using RJ-45 to DB9 Adapters, and pinning them myself. Flipping TX and RX on one end, after this everything worked as expected.

Dmp 4400 can't play local files

I am using a DMP-4400 with firmware v.5.2.2. The unit connects to the network fine and is able to display webpages from the internet without problem; the ftp server is working fine also. However, when I attempt to play any type of local file ( located at /tmp/ftproot/usb_1/) the screen remains blank. I am assuming that the files are being found because the failover URL is not being displayed for either .mpg or .html files. I am using MPEG-1 type video files for testing. I have attached one of these videos along with a sample .html file I am planning to use to loop multiple files.
Video files are being run using:
"/tmp/ftproot/usb_1/melt.mpg" entered into the 'Local Storage Path' dialog under 'Play Video File Stored Locally' within the GUI.
HTML is being launched using:
"file:///tmp/ftproot/usb_1/play-local-mpg.html" entered into the 'URL' dialog under 'URL To Be Displayed' within the GUI.
These problems persist whether the files are located on internal memory or external USB drive. Any help will be much appreciated.

I was able to fix it, The issue seems to be with the content, I transcoded it with VLC Player to MPEG-TS and it works. Kindly find the attached transcoded file.

How to play two presentations from the DMP one after another and looping

Can anyone help me on this.I want to play two presenations one after another and looping from the DMP.

Semuhtu,
The easiest solution for looping two or more DMD presentations
is to create a nested playlist within DMD. You simply
create a master presentation and add a playlist to this
presentation. Add the desired presentations to this playlist
and then schedule or send the Action to the DMP(s) to play
the Master Presentation. The 2 or more child presentations will
play and loop until you stop it manually.
Summary of Tasks
* Using DMD create Presentations (2 or more) that you would like
to display on the DMP-Display(s).
* After the presentations are created, you will need to find out
what the URL addresses are for each presentation. Using the
"Actions" drop down on the DMM-DMP Manager screen, you select
a DMP and send the Presentation to the DMP. Once the DMP displays
the presentation, access the DMP-DM Web admin page and copy the URL
address in the "Startup URLs-->Browser" field.   Repeat this process
for each DMD presentation that you want to loop.
For example:

http://dmm.company.com:8080/xTAS-core/appgen/clad/clad_96_.htm
and so on...
* Another parameter or variable that you will need to find out is
the duration of your DMD presentation(s). Some Presentations may be

each presentation that you will add to the looped playlist.
* Create a Master presentation using DMD. In this presentation, you will
create add a "Playlist" to the presentation by selecting the Playlist
button-drop down. Select "All Media Types" and a Playlist object will
be added to the Master presentation.
- Double-click on the object to add content
- Select "Add URL" button in the Playlist Content window.
- Fill in the required fields (URL Title & Link) in the "Add URL"
    window. Repeat the process for each presentation that you want
    to add.
- Set the Duration for each item in the Playlist. Select the Item
    in the list and then DOUBLE-CLICK on the "Planned Duration"
    field and edit the time to desired duration. Repeat process for
    each item.
- Save Master Presentation
* Schedule or use the "Actions" drop down on the DMM-DMP Manager screen
send the Master Presentation to the DMP(s). The Playlist will play and
Loop after the last item in the Master Playlist.

Sluggish playback/editing

Hello all. Lately I am noticing a lot of sluggish playback and editing using FCP X 10.0.8. Background rendering is off and I am editing in native mode H264 all footage coming from either a Canon 5D Mark III or 6D. I am not using any funky transitions, in fact no transitions. My hardware specs are:
MacBook Pro 2.3 Intel Core i7, Mid 2012, Memory 16GB, NVidia GeForce GT 650M and OSX 10.8.5. All footage is on my G-RAID external driver connected via Thunderbolt, 8 TB capacity with about 2.29 of available space. I have monitored activity monitor and it becomes sluggish during playback when it hits about 275% CPU and during drag and drop or crop of video files CPU is around 125% and still sluggish. Any ideas what can have started causing this? Again this started recently and I do not recall doing any updates. Any info or suggestions on how to try to fix this would greatly be appreciated. Nothing else. Only FCP X and yes on all projects no matter the size. It starts off fine and it begins to become sluggish. I try to crop a clip and there is a delay from the moment I select the edge and drag. As I playback any project, it starts fine and you can see once processor increases you will notice the sluggishness. I am moving about 4.5TB off the primary external drive to another one to see if it has something to do with the drive. Can the TB port be messed up and causing the sluggishness? Any way of testing it?
I also have freememory app and I free it up every so often, but on average I have about 5 gigs available when working on a project. Thanks again

DMP-4400 5.1 When Live stream drops the DMP requires reboot

We are using the Exterity TV Gateway to stream live TV to our DMP's when the Signal drops on the Exterity as it does several times a day the TV looses Audio and the screen goes blank for 5 seconds shows video and then blank again. This continues until we reboot the DMP. Has anybody come across this issue and does anybody have any ideas on a cure? The network connections are ok at the Exterity and DMP as far as speed and duplex are concerned with no errors seen. I am thinking its something to do with the multicast and the time its taking to re-join the stream but not sure how I can make any ajustments if it is.

I'm getting a similar issue running the DMP 4400 and DMM 5.1 except I have and issue where I could get 2 channels ok but could not get others and getting the blank screen repeatedly. Rebooting the DMP does not seem to provide any resolution temporarily or not. I have a DMM, DMP and DCM all attached to the same switch. Using UDP media per channel and a presentation per channel to push TV the DMPs.

DMP 4400 can't keep alive in DMM

I'm deploying DMS with 1 DMM v5.2 and 1 DMP 4400 v 5.2 like:
dmm(192.168.2.3/24) -> (192.168.2.1)router(123.30.24.246)-> internet -> (113.170.138.59)(ADSL modem)(10.185.254.242) -> DMP4400(10.185.254.242)
I open nat port 20,21,22,8080,6666,7777,80,8443,443 on ADSL modem and Router
DMM only see DMP about 5s and DMP go down
I can't send any asset from dmm -> dmp
Plz help me to fix this

I fixed this problem by adding nat overload in router.
But now i can't play assets from dmm to dmp.
Anyone can help me which ports must open to play assets from dmm to dmp? or any ways?

SSRS-2008 reports problem in DMP 4400 standalone(tvzilla)

In SSRS 2005, white spaces are automatically ignored. But in 2008 this behavior gets changed and by default whitespaces are not ignored. But, There is Report property
ConsumeContainerWhitespace which is set to False by default. We can remove blank space at end by setting
ConsumeContainerWhitespace to true.
The logic to prevent the unnecessary pagebreak is
- ReportBody width should be less then Pagesize(width) – Left Margin – Right Margin
- ReportBody height should be less then Pagesize(Height) – Top Margin – Bottom Margin – Header height – Footer height

Error Adding DMP 4400 to DMM 5.2.2

I am trying to add a new DMP to my DMM system and everytime I input the IP and MAC on the DMM for the DMP and click ok to add I get the following error code.
DMP could not be added. Error 400
Any Ideas as to what this error code is. I have serched and am unable to find any information on error codes for DMM.

1) Do you have a firewall in your network, If Yes - Have you opened the necessary ports on it ?
Please refer to the ports that need to be allowed between the DMP and DMM.

2) Error Code 400 could be the HTTP Error code, Which means that the request from the client to the server or vice versa was not understood by the receiving end.
3) Makes sure the DMP and DMM are running the same code version and nothing is blocking port 7777 between them.

Often some of the DMPs will start flipping quickly past every other image in the playlist although they are all timed to change at 25 secs or so. All images in the playlist are png. When first uploaded the signage will behave normally and then for no apparent reason they start with this issue. The problem does not occur on all of our DMPs and will occasionally appear to correct themselves. We have seen the problem in both 5.2.1 and 5.2.2 firmware versions.
If we use Flash the problem does not appear however it is time consuming to update all of the DMPs and can not be done quickly.
Has anyone seen this and can you offer a solution?

How do I determine in Java if running local or deployed weblogic server

Using JDeveloper 11.1.1.4.0
I need to determine in my Java code, if I am running my application locally (JDeveloper/Weblogic) or if the application is running on a deployed Weblogic server. The code will be used to determine where to place files when testing on PC verses where to place files when deployed. For example (c:\temp or /usr2/upload).

Movie playback during autorun presentation

I'm setting up a presentation that will run and loop continuously during a trade show. Most of the slides have movies embedded. Problem is, each slide wants to transition to the next one before fully playing each movie (I have to set it up to transition without mouse clicks).
I've come up with a workaround by making the delay time on the slide transition to be approx. the same as the mov file (but I usually have to make them a little shorter as the time doesn't work out quite right).
So my question is-- is there a way to do this more efficiently, or to make Keynote simply playback the mov file before transitioning on to the next slide?

"Local System" Deployment and double hop scenarios

Hi all,
I was wondering if some of you have implemented a good solution dealing with the fact that all ConfigMgr 2012 Applications got executed in local system context and that there is no good solution to execute them with other credentials. We checked the options
in a TS to run with different credentials as well as Network Access Accounts (winrm, remoting)
Both solutions doesn't fit our requirements. We usually deploy some infrastructure components or roles using ConfigMgr 2012. Many of these applications use Cmdlets provided by the vendor to install and configure. Some of these Cmdlets connect back to other
infrastructure components and produce a double hop scenario. Citrix infrastructure components are a good sample.
As it is not allowed to impersonate a user by local system, it's really hard to find a good solution which still allows "natural" powershell scripts without several hacks.
I'think we have found a good solution for creating PSCredentials in our scripts and use them to invoke the commands, but we still see the double hop issue then.
My question is:
- Do you guys face the same issues in real life? How do you deal with "local system" and "domain accounts" used for SW Distribution?
- Do you use CredSSP ? Any hints or suggestions regarding this?
- Any other cool idea to impersonate or address double hop ?

There is no perfect solution to including credentials, but there are some good options out there. One is to use a Task Sequence to deploy your application with the "Run
Command Line" step which allows you the option to "Run this step as the following account". Another option is to include
the password with the PowerShell script.
Both options allow you to remove the hop of executing as Local System by default. Both options have the same drawback that the password is not really securely stored
(they are encrypted somewhat reversibly).

The Network Access Account is (and should be) only used for downloading content from the distribution point. It is not used to execute things locally on the managed device.
