SM37 - executing server different from target server
Hello Everybody,
Most of our jobs are scheduled to run on a unique target server,
but when i occasionally check all the finished job report on sm37 i find that -
small amount of jobs finally ran on executing server which is different from the specified targer server.
we are not facing any resources issues,
so may anyone know how to analyse it? and what are the possible reasons this problem may occur?
have a nice day.
I think that's an issue for SAP via OSS. Have you checked for notes yet? I do see several notes that apply but mostly for releases 6.4 and earlier. I don't know of a system profile parameter that would allow that setting to be overridden but that doesn't mean that there isn't one...

Staging area different from target - which KM???
Hi,
I need to transfer data from CSV to DB (only new inserts operation)
I am working the following KM's
LKM File to SQL
IKM SQL Control Append
It's working fine. However now i need to keep the staging area (where C$, I$ etc table are created) in a separate schema.
I have created a diff schema for staging area and selected in the interface "Staging area different from target"
However not sure of which KM's to use.
Please let me know how to achieve this.
Thanks,
RoshHi
1st thing you have to give the workschema for temp tables when creating physical schema in dataserver for target.
Then you have to select the workschema in overview of interface as "staging different from target".
After doing this when you will use predefined KM for the interface it will create temp tables in workschema.
Now suppose you are not giving the workschma at the time of creating physical schema and you have selected "staging different than target" in interface. Here your C$ table will be created in your workschema but I$ table that is used by IKM is going to be created on target schema. So for this again you have change the IKM KM i.e. where to create I$ table (wokrschema) by selecting the corresponding logical schema.
So its better you give the workschema at the time of creating physical schema.
Here is the query to give privilege by the sys_dba
Grant create any table to ODI_TEMP.
Hope you got it

How could I create a "Linked Server" link from SQL Server 2008R2 64-Bit to Oracle Database 11.2 64-Bit?
Let's say the SQL Server and Oracle Database are in the same Company Internet Network.
I have the code, but I do not know how to use it. Such as what is System DSN Name? Where could I get it. What does it look like?
Do I need to install any Oracle Client Software in order to link from SQL Server to Oracle? Or SQL Server has the built-in drivers installed already that I can directly create a Linked Server from SQL Server to Oracle?
I need to know details. Thanks.
USE master
go
EXEC sp_addlinkedserver
@server = '{Linked Server Name}'
,@srvproduct = '{System DSN Name}'
,@provider = 'MSDASQL'
,@datasrc = '{System DSN Name}'
EXEC sp_addlinkedsrvlogin
@rmtsrvname = '{Linked Server Name}'
,@useself = 'False'
,@locallogin = NULL
,@rmtuser = '{Oracle User Name}'
,@rmtpassword = '{Oracle User Password}'You need an OLE DB provider for Oracle. There is one that ships with Windows, but it only supports very old versions of Oracle. Oracle has an OLE DB provider that you can use. I don't know if it's part of Oracle Client or how it is bundled.
You should not use MSDASQL or any DSN.

Steps to migrate Project Server 2007 from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008?
We need to migrate Project server 2007 from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008.
1. Is it as simple as doing backup and restore of databases and pointing Project Server to the new DB server? Or there are some specific steps that should be followed?
2. Article at
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd207290(office.12).aspx is about moving databases from one DB server to another (same versions). At one place, it mentions to
backup all databases but at another place it mentions that
You should only back up the Draft and Published databases from the source database server.
What should be done when moving from 2005 to 2008?
Regards,
Amit
GuptaHigh Level step you can get this form Tech net or MSDN too
Shut down the SharePoint servers (App / Web)
backup all of the SharePoint and Project
Server databases from the SQL 2005 server
copy these over to the new SQL 2008 server and restore all of
the databases with the same names
script out all of the logins used by SharePoint/PS from the SQL 2005 server and create these on the SQL 2008 server
script out the Delete expired sessions SQL job from the SQL 2005 server and create this on the SQL 2008 server - or create them manually on the SQL 2008 server
repoint the SQL server DNS Alias from the SQL 2005 server to the SQL 2008 server, if SharePoint and Project Server was installed using the actual SQL server name and no alias, you can create a DNS alias for the old SQL 2005 server name that points to the SQL
2008 server. This is so that the SharePoint servers can still connect to the same SQL server name
Start up the SharePoint servers

Can the source files be loaded from target server
Hi,
I have owb client on windows2000 and target on linux server. The current plan is to create runtime repository connection for the target and execute mapping from windows where the source files are located.
Is there way to put the source files on target server machine (there is no owb client install)? What's the best business practice regarding how the owb and source files are distributed? Thanks.
TarcyThe problem is not the code or html.
This: "The Java Runtime Environment cannot be loaded from <\bin\server\jvm.dll>
indicates that you are attempting to run the server jvm, and it does not exist. This can be because either the java command option "-server" was used, or a configuration file setting.
As shipped by Sun, the JRE does not include the server jvm; the JDK does. If you want the server jvm in the JRE, copy the \server\ directory and contents from the JDK to the JRE.
If you installed using defaults,
copy from: C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0\jre\bin
copy to: C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0\bin -
Error when execute a package from SQL Server Agent
We have the next problem:
When we execute a package from a Job of SQL Server agent, it shows the success messege, but reviewing the results, the package didnt do all the tasks.
When we run it mannually by MSIS the package, it shows the success message and it works fine.
The workflow of the package is :
1) Shrink the databases (executing a sql file)
2) Backup the databases (Back up Database task of MSIS)
3) Rename the files to .BAK extension (by the Foreach loop container and fyle system task)
4) Execute command to compress the it (by a .bat)
5) Move the compress file to another location (by another Foreach loop)
Manually run correct, but when is a a SQL AGent Job that execute the package it does only the first 2 steps.

Staging area different from target
I am using oracle 10g as target database. I want to upload a flat data file into oracle table.
I uploaded sucessfully using LKM Oracle (SQL Loader) in Interface. In this case i am using oracle database as a staging area. So all load transferred to my database at the timing of processing.
I want to create staging area at my file server. So please help me out to resolve this problem.A staging area must accept SQL syntax.
A File server won't accept SQL syntax.
So if you speak about Physical Server where you got your file and if there is a RDBMS installed in maybe but else I don't really know how you can...
You can specify another data server for your staging area or use the SUNOPSIS_MEMORY_ENGINE which use the cache I think but it's not optimized I think...
For this in the Definition Tab of your Interface choose Staging Area different from the Target and then select in the list box SUNOPSIS_MEMORY_ENGINE. -
Running OES2P3 cifs on SLES10SP4. This server is on it's own subnet
connected via a router to the other subnets, with the rest of the
servers. Name resolution and CIFS file access does work, but browsing
does not work. I found that the server registers the workstation
service with the WINS server, but not the server service. Adding a a
static WINS entry enables netbios name resolution. But due to the
unability to obtain a server list from the CIFS server (a packet trace
shows, that the request for the server list from the OES CIFS server is
answered by the server with an unspecified server error) browsing does
not work.
Is browsing supported by OES2 CIFS like it is in SAMBA or does it need
another server as browser to allow browsing to work?
W. PrindlOkay, then we have the same knowledge status in that area.
I'll try to open a SR on this question.

Total Server Memory and Target server memory
Hi All,
SQL server 2005
Installed Memory 63gb
SQL server maximum memory is restricted to 32 gb
Target Server Memory (KB) 33554432
Total Server Memory (KB) 33554432
SQL Server Buffer Manager
Counter Value
Buffer cache hit ratio
5792
Free list stalls/sec
806
Free pages
64040
Lazy writes/sec
423858
Page life expectancy
883
Please let us know above settings means any memory pressure and let us know what be the best practice to avoid memory pressure if there is any.
Regards,
Shiva
Grateful to your time and support. Regards, ShivaHi,
some of the values you posted are no logical. but let's go over the values as you posted one by one:
* page life expectancy: number of seconds a page will stay in the buffer pool without references.
883 seem to be OK, but not very high (more then 14 min)
* Buffer Cache Hit Ratio: Percentage of pages found in the buffer cache without having to read from disk. The ratio is the total number of cache hits divided by the total number of cache lookups over the last few thousand page accesses.
I dont know how you got this value above 100%.
I would suggest to use PERFMON to check the value, or this query:
SELECT (a.cntr_value * 1.0 / b.cntr_value) * 100.0 as BufferCacheHitRatio
FROM sys.dm_os_performance_counters a
JOIN (SELECT cntr_value,OBJECT_NAME
FROM sys.dm_os_performance_counters
WHERE counter_name = 'Buffer cache hit ratio base'
) b ON a.OBJECT_NAME = b.OBJECT_NAME
WHERE a.counter_name = 'Buffer cache hit ratio'
* Free list stalls/sec: frequency with which requests for available database pages are suspended because no buffers are available. Free list stall rates of 3 or 4 per second indicate too little SQL memory available.
806 is extrimly high value, look very bad! It should be around 2
* Lazy writes/sec: tracks how many times a second that the Lazy Writer process is moving dirty pages from the buffer to disk in order to free up buffer space.
423858 is extrimly high value, look very bad! It should be less then 20
** I have a feeling that you do no red the data currectly. Please check this link:

Connect SQL Server 2012 from Windows Server 2003 with native client 9.0
Hi,
I currently have a setup where ETL tool Ab Intio, running on a Linux server, connects to the SQL Server 2005 through a passthrough Wintel server with Windows Server 2003 OS using SQL server native client 9.0
Now I have the requirement to upgrade the SQL server from 2005 to 2012.
My question is, will it be possible to connect to SQL server 2012 through Windows Server 2003 with native client 9.0?
As per the specs, I need native client 11.0+ to fully support SQL Server 2012, but then, as per specs, native client 11.0 doesnot run on Windows server 2003. OS upgradation is currently not on the cards.
So will it be possible to the run the basic queries we use currently, if we can connect SQL server 2012 through Windows Server 2003 with native client 9.0/10.0, without updgrading the OS of the Wintel server?
Thanking you in advance!Hi Soumya,
Yes, you can use the SQL Server Native Client shipped with SQL Server 2005 to connect to a SQL Server 2012 instance, and there is no need to upgrade the operating system.

Calendar server Migration from one server to another
Dear folks,
We are planing to move our calendar server from one server to another, Platform is same, OS is same, Calendar server on both systems are having similar version, Only pointing to new directory server but same schema level and populated with same users,
What would be the best approach to accomplish this:
1) Just take backup of Database & Restore it on the new server
2) Run Migration utility .....
ll appreciate for any help......
ThanksSp00ky_Geek wrote:

If they are the same platform/version you should be able to copy the database across as-is. The users directory entries (icsdwphost) will need to be updated to reflect the new hostname for the calendar server.
As with any move/migration, test and retest.

Hello,
I'm looking to uninstall the WSUS server role 3.0 from Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. The thing is the database is hosted on a remote MS SQL server. I want to remove the database as well. I would like help for figuring out what I need to do to completely remove
WSUS and its database.
Any kind of help is appreciated! ThanksHi,
WSUS offers limited support for running database software on a computer that is separate from the computer where the rest of WSUS is installed. This section offers step-by-step
instructions for how to install WSUS in this configuration.
If you meet the uninstall issue with the normal uninstall, please post the detail information for us but if you just want to manage the WSUS related SQL data, you can refer
the following KB then delete corresponding database.
In the general procedure, you will create the related WSUS database as below::
Run WSUS Setup from the command line, using the SQLINSTANCE_NAME=servername\instancename command-line option, where servername is the name of the remote computer, and instancename
is the name of the SQL Server instance that you will use for WSUS.
