SM51 displays ip address instead of hostname

Hi,
We have built a dailog instance on Linux and In SM51 under the hostname column we are seeing the ip address instead of name of host. We tried setting the parameter SAPLOCALHOST in instance parameter of the dailog instance but we have no luck. Can some one help.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Please Make an Entry of host name of Application Servers in the /etc/hosts file of all (CI & DI) servers, Ensure that there will not be duplicate entries in the  /etc/hosts file it may conflict the host name issues.

Jeeva

  • Ciscoworks Expert needed--RME show IP address instead of hostnames

Please take a look at the pics,
In RME and many other modules, it display the IP addresses , instead of the Hostnames as the ID for the devices(we want to use the hostnames for the devices). I saw the settings at Common Service/Global Setting was at IP(see the attach pictures). I then changed it into SysName and rediscover the devices. It didn’t work. It shows the same thing.
Anyone can advise me how to correct it?
    thanks,

  • Why does my viewing window display the address instead of names?

I have been using mail for a while. I notice that even after I add a contact to the address book and input their name, incoming mail still displays in the main window with their address instead of their name?
I would much rather be able to recognize the name of the sender before I open the mail. How can I set this up?

I have sort of another similar curious occurance: I have entries in my Address Book where most of them have multiple email addresses.
By entering their first name or first few letters in a New Mail 'To' field etc, I choose the right email address I want to mail to; Some of my contacts would then appear as Names with the blue oval-rectangle shape behind the name, some other contacts would appear as Name <xxx@xxx> (the email address)
    Smart Address was turned on...
    Add this to "curiosity"

  • JDBC Connections showing IP Address instead of Hostname

We have recently installed BEA WebLogic Integration 8.1 with SP4. Our first implementation of BEA WebLogic Server was with 6.1 with SP3. The JDBC Datapool connections to our SQL Server showed the Hostname of the physical machine the BEA Server was on, in addition to the application it was using to connect with. The current implementation of 8.1 with SP4 shows the IP address instead of the Hostname and DOESN'T show the application that is being used to connect with. Is there any way to force it to show the hostname and the application it's using to connect to the SQL server via the JDBC connection pool?

  • Detailed Navigation not displaying giving ip address instead of hostname

    Hi
I created applications in web dynpro. So i imported in the Enterprise Portal.
In that I created Role----Under That Worksets (X ,Y ,Z, W) -For each workset I created more than 4 Pages to that---For each page i added Iview.
I added "IP Address" and "HostName" in the c:/windows/system32/drivers/etc/host
Then i login into the Portal with normal URL
    http://<HostName>:50000/irj/portal
So its Displaying.....Up to this its fine...
If suppose i want to login with
http://<IP Address>:50000/irj/portal....Under Each Workset, one page is showing,,,means one Iview is Visible...means Detailed Navigation is not showing.
    All Pages are not visible...
Please any one help me to do this....
So its not possible to say to anyone ,,,,u have to add this ip Addrss in the path.
Please Provide the Permanent solution ,,even by giving IP address also all pages and Iviews must see..
    Regards
    Sushma

    Hi Sushma,
I am not sure if the same apply when you access the URL through the IP. The SAP BI works on the concept of Fully Qualified domain names for access and also there is a system of web dispatchers which are configured for the domain name to handle report requests.
Also with portal in place you will not be able to see the URL of the application running within portal
for example the URL we see are
ttp://<xyz>.com/irj/portal but then the individual URLs for the applications running within the portal cannot be seen...due to security reasons.
That could be the possible case.
Regarding Use of Portal at client place:
    1. You can use the VPN connectivity. You will only need to give the access rights to the perticular id & that will be all.
    2. Assign the portal port to the some global address. That will work.
But, I suggest, VPN is better.

  • DCR Shows Ip address instead of Hostname in Ciscoworks LMS 3.1

I've struck a problem with not being able to update the device hostnames when I do a discovery.
I'm aware of bug CSCsv65933 Discovery does not update display name in DCR and have ordered an upgrade.
I am still concerned however that there may be something more fundamentally wrong in the name resolution process.
Testing name resolution using the resolver.pl script fails for reverse lookups. Reverse lookups using nslookup work fine (output below)
    D:\Program Files\CSCOpx\bin>perl resolver.pl 192.168.36.7 BNE3750-A-L31
    d:\PROGRA~1\CSCOpx/www/classpath/com/cisco/nm/cmf/desktop
    Original name: 192.168.36.7
    Hostnames/IP Addresses:
            /192.168.36.7
    Original name: BNE3750-A-L31
    Hostnames/IP Addresses:
            BNE3750-A-L31/192.168.36.7
    D:\Program Files\CSCOpx\bin>nslookup 192.168.36.7
    Server:  bnedns.acme.com.au
    Address:  192.168.0.21
    Name:    bne3750-a-l31.acme.com.au
    Address:  192.168.36.7
Based on other posts I studied it would appear that resolver.pl should do reverse lookups.  Any clues why it might be failing for me.

  • Terminal displaying IP address instead of prompt

    Hi,
Since I've hooked myself up to a permanent cable internet connection I've found that launching Terminal with the connection active causes my current IP address to be displayed where my prompt should be. If I deactivate my internet connection and launch Terminal, the prompt appears as it should.
I don't recall having altered my prompt on this iteration of Panther, so it must be something else.
Running 10.3.9 with all recent security updates.
    SiR G.

/etc/bashrc sets the prompt to display the host. /ect/hostconf and netinfo are used to discover the host. To permanently change the host to a name, open System Preferences > Sharing and enter a name in the text field labeled Computer Name:.

  • Cannot protect SharePoint farm that uses SQL server IP address instead of hostname?

Hello, I am trying to configure DPM 2012 R2 protection for a SharePoint 2013 farm. The DPM agent was installed on the WFE and SQL server and they are reporting a "OK" status from the DPM console. ConfigureSharePoint.exe -EnableSharePointProtection
was also ran on the WFE. When I try to set up my protection group and expand the WFE server I get the following error:
"DPM cannot protect some of your datasources until you install agents on the following servers : 10.1.1.12. (ID: 956)"
That IP address is the SharePoint SQL server IP address. For whatever reason the person who installed this SharePoint farm configured it with the IP address of the SQL server instead of a DNS name.
I know the DPM agent is working properly on both servers because I can enumerate their volumes and databases. I'm certain this error is due to SharePoint using an IP address for the SQL server instead of a DNS name or alias. Is there a workaround for this?

The fix for this may be to add SQL server client on the frontend and then add aliases for 32 and 64bit to the backend sql servers.

  • LMS 4.2.1 Discovery IP instead of hostname

    Hi,
we use LMS 4.2.1 and we noticed a strange behaviour when starting a discovery.  From aprox. 160 devices some devices are displayed as IP Address instead of hostname. Every device is DNS resolvable and has a value for "hostname"
I´ve tried every possible option in the global discovery settings but some devices have the IP instead of their hostname
Can you tell me how to fix this? Thank you.
    Chris

DNS is often not understood and just as often implemented badly
When it is working correct you can do 2 things:
    ping hostname
will start ping towards the IP address of the host.
    ping -a
will resolve the ip to a hostname if possibe and then start a ping towards the IP address.
Often only the first works. Reverse lookup is required by LMS as well.
if you can fix the DNS you can always create a local hosts file
    Cheers,
    Michel

    Hi Sunny C,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  The "From" field should be showing by default, but you can check or change your settings for Mail with the instructions below:
    Mail (Yosemite): Set Mail preferences
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH19178
In the Composing pane, you can set the email account that you want to send new messages from.
Also, check the View command on the Menu bar.  View > Message Attributes should have a checkmark beside the "From" field.
    Cheers,

  • HT204053 I have two apple ID's and it's causing problems in my contacts. It repeats the same address and sometimes displays email address only but not the full contact details? How do I get my contact list the same in all my devices (iMac, iPhone & iPad (

I have two Apple ID's and it's casing problems on my contact list as it repeats the address in somecases and in others it only displays email address for a contact. I want to have the same contact list and details on all my devices (iMac, iPhone 4S & iPad Mini)? Is it possible?

By using 1 of the 2 ID's instead of both, choose one, move everything in the other one to the one you chose and stop using it.

  • Prompt shows IP address instead of domain/host

Our server is setup at 10.0.1.1 (actually it is at public IP address. Here I am giving this like that). Our DNS server (on another system) maps this IP to ourdomain.net. Everything was working fine. If anyone logs into the server, he will get prompt like this:
    ourdomain:~
All of a sudden, this started showing our IP address instead of ourdomain at the prompt. DNS is working fine. I checked host and dig. But for some reason, IP address is showing up. How can I fix this ?
    Appreciate any help.
    Thanks !

You mean when logging in using ssh?
You say you checked the DNS but is this IP used publicly and the DNS IP used on that server you own ("public") DNS which is the DNS responsible for public lookups (SOA) of that servername/domain?
If it is a public server and the DNS is correct any public DNS IP/server (which allows recursion from your IP) can be used on that server to look itself up.
What does "hostname" in terminal on that server say?
Remove any HOSTNAME=-ourdomain.net- from /etc/hostconfig on that server.

  • Terminal-IP address instead of computer name is showing

Hi, my computer is behaving strangely lately and I noticed that in terminal the host name is displayed like this:
    c-XX-XXX-XX-XX-XXX:~ myusername%
with XX numbers corresponding to my actual IP address
When I looked in my 1 month old backup, it is displayed correctly there with an actual drive name.
In addition, the current shell is tsch, despite the fact that I am running OSX10.4.11 where it is supposed to be bash as far as I understand.
Is displaying IP address in terminal instead of computer name normal? If not, how to reset this?
Any help would be much appreciated.

    BDAqua,
    My report:
    1. Moved preferences.plist from /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist into trash.
    2. rebooted.
    3. Computer now shows [localhost] in terminal as a host name-success. However, now Internet does not work.
    4. Went to System preferences>Network>Built-in-Ethernet. There was a blank page (all settings gone).
    5. No matter. Inputed comcast.net in Search domains field (Comcast is my provider). Clicked on Apply now. All settings came back, internet works.
    6. Now Terminal again shows my IP as a host name, but at least I know that this change came from Comcast.
Unexpected benefit: Apparently this procedure got rid of annoying "Your settings are being modified by another application" bug-Good to know, thanks.
Conclusion: For some reason Comcast sees fit to modify Terminal settings.
Big thanks for making the problem clearer.
