Small black box on bottom of screen

i have a small black box on the bottom of my screen that lists everything i am doing. im wondering how to get rid of it bc it doesnt allow me to scroll down and it writes everything i am typing

press "command+ F5", its called voiceover.

You have to do it on the Apple TV itself while it's plugged into a TV so that you can see its screen.

Small black boxes in Forefox

I sometimes see small black boxes while scrolling web pages in Firefox (36.0). Here's an example from a portion of a wunderground.com page. The boxes vary in position and size as I scroll up and down in the window.

Hit Cmd-F5 (not F-5)
Or in System Prefs>Universal Access, uncheck Enable access for assistive devices.

Screen Sharing authentication fails or shows only a small black box

I've been working on a issue and as I found a solution only by collecting bits of help from all over the web, I thought I could help somebody else by posting it here, where I found lots of help on other issues myself.
Here's the topic: I couldn't connect to my 10.5.7 OS X Server via Screen Sharing anymore. Everything else worked fine, i.e. I could login to all other services (AFP, LoginWindow, VPN, etc.).
I saw some strange errors in my Kerberos-Server log. As I thought of an OD or Kerberos problem, I tried different things concerning these services. Running "kinit <yourusername>" got me to the point where the authentication didn't fail anymore, but all I could see was a little (i.e. ~ 100x200px) black box instead of my server's screen.
The problem finally turned out to be NOT connected to my strange log entries but with somehow having turned on "Remote Management" in Server Admin. Here's my solution to it:
1. Turn off "Remote Management".
Server Admin -> Settings -> General, tick off "Remote Management"
2. Turn on Screen Sharing.
2.1 ssh to your server.
2.2. cd /Library/Preferences
2.3. echo -n enabled > com.apple.ScreenSharing.launchd
That's it after that I was able to log in again. Thanks goes to a lot of folks out there in the web, not to me.

2008 Pro has flashes of black bar at bottom of screen

I'm getting flash of a black bar the full width of screen and height of dock at the very bottom of the screen.
It flashes quickly twice about every 10 seconds.
I just got the box last night.
It has an 8800GT card.
Didn't notice it last night, but left in on all night to format a hard drive with multiple passes.
I've rebooted and the condition persists.

Think I have a clue. I have two monitors connected to the 8800GT.
I had the card set to 'mirror mode' and I had my 2nd monitor turned off as I was attempting to clone my main hard drive, no need to burn the electricity.
When I turned on the 2nd monitor, the menu bar appeared 1/4 way down the screen, so the hole screen was pushed down by 1/4 and there was some garbage at the top of the screen.
I took it out of mirror mode with both monitors turned on, and the problem went away (I may have also rebooted).
Some driver issue with 8800GT.

How do i remove box at bottom of screen telling me what i do and the talking?

My cat sat on my Air and this bar at bottom of the screen came up and is now telling me what i am doing in writing and with some man talking to me. Please help me remove it.

It's VoiceOver. Press Command and F5 keys to turn off VoiceOver, or open System Preferences > Accessibility > VoiceOver, and unmark the box to enable VoiceOver

Touchsmart 7320 black patches at bottom of screen

When PC has been on for a few minutes a dark patch appears at the bottom left towards the middle of the screen. A while later this extends across to the left bottom corner. It clears only if I reboot or change user and go back in. It has been suggested that the LEDs are failing.

Vertical black stripes at bottom of screen

After updating to OSX 10.6.8 I have noticed that my MBP 2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo has vertical black stripes at the bottom of the screen when I start it up. I cna still use it, but the stripes are very distracting. I thought it was a hardware issue (like my screen is failing). But the solution suggests that it is a software problem.
The solution is to retart the computer after its initial bootup. When it restarts the black stripes are completely absent and the computer runs for long periods of time (like for days) with no problem at all, even when it goes to sleep and then wakes back up.
Anyone else have this issue?

When 40+ tabs are open, black boxes start randomly covering screen

This is a weird one, and I couldn't find anything describing problems like it elsewhere.
If I have about 40 or more tabs open, black stripes and blocks start covering the screen. If I move my pointer, they start forming more where the pointer goes. After maybe 30 seconds, if I move my pointer, the black areas go away where the pointer goes. Sometimes if I do nothing, all of the black areas go away on their own. It's almost as if Firefox can't render the page and it takes it that 30 seconds to regain the ability to do so. Bizarre!
Anyone have any ideas?

Hello rch427, try '''disabling graphics hardware acceleration'''. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
Then perform these steps:
#Open Firefox ''Options'' window as follows: click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and select ''Options''
#In the Firefox Options window, click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select ''General''.
#In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. '''Uncheck''' this checkbox.
#Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:

Small Black Stripe And Dots On Screen (MacBook Pro 15")

Last year July i bought my first mac, amazed at it's performance graphics etc etc.
But recently a black stripe appeared out of nowhere, also there is randomly black dots
on the screen, whom appear from time time.
I've read a couple of thing like resetting ram, running diagnostics etc without luck.
Can anybody help me? I afraid they are dead pixels, if so i am very disappointed in the quality of
the screen (a thing that i didn't expect)

Your computer is new enough that they should be able to know it is under warranty whether or not you have the receipt. If you bought it from the on line store, you may have some paperwork in your email.
If you have access to an external display, you might check and see if the graphics problem is also on the external. If not, the problem may be with your display rather than with the chip. But whatever it is, it will be covered by the warranty.
The store may also be able to refer you to a local Apple Authorized Service Provider should you need one.

Try to reset it. Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. When you see the silver apple, let go and let it reboot and see if that helps. Regardless you should make an appointment at your local apple store and have them check it out, especially if it's still under warranty.

Transparent black box in corner of screen has appeared.

This box has CVR OFF Brightness: 0 Zoom:0 Audio Off & Ready. It also ONLY appears on Firefox & Thunderbird windows.
