Small black boxes in Forefox

I sometimes see small black boxes while scrolling web pages in Firefox (36.0). Here's an example from a portion of a wunderground.com page. The boxes vary in position and size as I scroll up and down in the window.
Anyone else see these? Here's the system info:

Sigh. Just updated Firefox and the problem seems to have vanished. I hope it stays that way.

You have to do it on the Apple TV itself while it's plugged into a TV so that you can see its screen.

Learn how to update the software on your Apple TV (2nd and 3rd generation). It's always a good idea to have the latest software on your Apple TV.
    Update your software
Select Settings > General > Update Software. Apple TV checks for an available update; if one is available, a download message should appear.
Click Download and Install to start the download process.
Do not disconnect your Apple TV during the update process. The Apple TV status light may flash slowly during the update and restart process. This is expected behavior.

  • Screen Sharing authentication fails or shows only a small black box

    Hi everybody!
I've been working on a issue and as I found a solution only by collecting bits of help from all over the web, I thought I could help somebody else by posting it here, where I found lots of help on other issues myself.
Here's the topic: I couldn't connect to my 10.5.7 OS X Server via Screen Sharing anymore. Everything else worked fine, i.e. I could login to all other services (AFP, LoginWindow, VPN, etc.).
I saw some strange errors in my Kerberos-Server log. As I thought of an OD or Kerberos problem, I tried different things concerning these services. Running "kinit <yourusername>" got me to the point where the authentication didn't fail anymore, but all I could see was a little (i.e. ~ 100x200px) black box instead of my server's screen.
The problem finally turned out to be NOT connected to my strange log entries but with somehow having turned on "Remote Management" in Server Admin. Here's my solution to it:
    1. Turn off "Remote Management".
Server Admin -> Settings -> General, tick off "Remote Management"
    2. Turn on Screen Sharing.
    2.1 ssh to your server.
    2.2. cd /Library/Preferences
    2.3. echo -n enabled > com.apple.ScreenSharing.launchd
That's it after that I was able to log in again. Thanks goes to a lot of folks out there in the web, not to me.

  • Document name displayed in semi-opaque black box

I have an eMac with OS 10.3.9, and occasionally the name of a document I'm working with will show up on the screen and won't go away, even after the document is long closed.
It shows up in a small black "box" with white lettering that I can see through, but barely.
It's about 1/3 of the way up the screen and maybe 1/4 in from the left.
It doesn't slow the computer down at all, but it's very annoying because it covers what I'm working on, and it only goes away if I completely log off.
Any ideas? it's not an urgent problem, but I would like to fix it because it impedes my work. I do a lot of design work, and it's inconvenient to log off all the time because I have a small box covering my document.
    Thanks,
    Christy

    Hi Christy,
What application you use when you working in that document?
    * Is this maybe a auto-backup document that you setup in the application you work with?
** Can you select that document on the desktop an get info by holding down the command-i key?
    Post back ...

  • Flickering black boxes when editing on macbook pro

    Hi!
After I updated my macbook pro to the newest Yosemite software (which I really regret because my mac is now running soooo slow ), I have experienced that
small black boxes flicker whenever I am editing pictures/using brush tools in Photoshop.
I have heard that the same problem happen some time ago with the macbook air but now it is happening to me! I have tried to turn down the Graphic Processor from "Advanced" to "normal" but did not help.
What can I do? I am going crazy seen those boxes flicker every 5 seconds!

Yosemite still has a substantial numbers of bugs that Apple has to fix, especially graphics related ones.
Some users have reverted to downgrading to Mavericks.
Are you at least sure your OS and Photoshop are fully updated?

  • Little Black Boxes

This is a friends computer. Small black boxes will sometimes outline certain objects, such as the safari back button, safari message, and the HD. He's unsure what this means, and is getting a little freaked about it. does anyone know what's going on?

Voice Over has been activated in System Preferences>Universal Access.

  • HELP - I just downloaded the update, and now all my keynote slide shows have ugly symbols (sort of a black box with an O in the middle) wherever I clicked 'return' to go down a bullet or to edit text.  It does not let me delete these marks

this is what it looks like

Interesting, Have you tried selecting the text elements and then formatting them so that they are not bulleted? And then reformatting them with a different style bullet so you can see if the black boxes come back with a different style of bullet?
I just made a few small test lists with bullets in Keynote and I have no issues.

  • How can i scroll vertically without the little black box?

         Hello,
I need to review alot of pdf documents with adobe reader 9.0 or acrobat pro, and i need to be able to move forward and backward fast alot using both the mouse wheel and the scroll bar. I'm having a problem with this.
When i click "show one page at a time"-button and I use the scroll bar in the right, reader doesnt scroll the through the pages, but instead shows an idiotic little black box on the right thats too small to see pretty much anything from.
If i use the "scroll through pages continuously"-button, the scroll bar works normally, but the mouse wheel works too slow.
Using the reader in either way feels like running with a ball and chain in my leg, and I do really believe im not the only one.
Despite of hours of searching, trial and error I've somehow managed to miss how to remove that black pop-up-thing and scroll normally, when using the "show one page at time".
Please tell me I can scroll normally with scroll bar while being able to move fast with the wheel, and how do I do it?

    Thanks.
    What i mean in brief:
In adobe reader you cannot live-scroll with the scroll bar when using the "show one page at a time" setting, but instead it shows a little thumbnail-window on the right. The other setting makes mouse wheel too slow to be useful.
A scroll bar that doesn't live-scroll is probably one of the most horrible "features" you can have in a program. Since it's in a program as common as adobe reader, im guessing there's alot of frustrated googling going on about it.No answers around though.

  • Black box (line) surrounds and follows mouse, 'mini' screen size, PIP?

    Hi,
I just tried to install the new wireless mighty mouse and wireless apple keyboard.
The mouse worked for a minute, but the install of the keyboard killed the BT mouse and now there's this ANNOYING black box around the mouse cursor.
After playing with it I've noticed that the pointer cursor, which is surrounded by this box (4:3 ratio box, approx 2" wide by 1.5" tall on my 20" 1600x1200 monitor).
The odd thing is the cursor's position within this box moves in correlation with where on my overall desktop the cursor is placed: If I put my cursor in the upper right corner of my whole screen, the mouse cursor is also in the upper right corner of the small 'box'; if I move it to the lower left of the screen, it is also in the lower left of the box, and so on for the other two corners, and if it's in the middle of the screen, it's in the middel of the little black box.
    So this seems very strange.
Oh, and neither the BT keyboards or the new mighty mouse BT will show up in the BT menu as recognized devices, though they did just briefly in the beginning.
So after buying a new USB hub to be able to plug in the Apple/Belkin USB hub along with the Apple store's D-Link USB Bluetooth adapter and a new BT keyboard and mouse - $200 for a wireless keyboard and mouse, all I have is ultra annoying new software problems and all the same wires as before, with an additional keyboard and mouse on my desk. UGH!!!
Can anyone help with this 'black box around the keyboard issue, at least?
Thank you soo, so much for any solutions!

Oh and this weren't enough my barely used video ipod video 60 GB self-distructed this AM - melted inside somehow. I am in Apple ****.

    GREEN STAR FOR YOU!
Of all the things - somehow, and I've never even been into this control panel, inside the Universal Access/Seeing/Options dialogue, the box was checked saying "Show preview rectangle when zoomed out".
I unchecked this, and it went away. I had not selected this, ever. How it happened, I don't know except that I do have a Logitech NuLOOQ tooldial device which I had unplugged from USB while troubleshooting my BT wireless keyboard and mouse, and this device requires having the 'enable access for assistive devices' checked in the Universal Access control panel.
Perhaps unplugging that device somehow lead to this problem, but otherwise I've never 'visited' the UA pref panel or checked anything in it.
Odd, but THANK YOU for the suggestion!!!

  • Black box with exclamation point instead of photo

I recently switched from a PC to Mac and used a transfer cable to move my photos into iPhoto. Small thumbnails look fine, but when I open some of them all I get is a black box with an exclamation point inside a white circle. This seems to apply only to SOME of the pics that were originally SCANNED into my PC as jpeg files. Although I suspected this was how photos imported, I did try the Rebuild feather, but that didn't work. Is still have my originals on my old PC, but I'd like to get rid of it. Is there still a way I can access what's on my Mac -- or successfully import from my PC?
Thanks in advance for the assistance!

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Why do I see a black box when playing video content from yahoo?

If there is an article that includes video I can't see it. I can hear the audio, but I only see a black box. If I place my mouse over the progress bar I can also see the small screen with the preview with the actual picture of the video.
    Thanks,
    Adris

Yeah! Problem solved: It's a QT issue.
Cause: Mac Update Software downloaded a faulty QT.
Solution: Download QT from Apple's QT site.
Great to have the Video back

  • OWB 10.2 - Pluggable Mappings Implementation: Black-Box, White-Box, ...

    Hi,
We recently migrated from OWB 10.1 to version 10.2, and for the moment I'm investigating the new feature 'Pluggable Mappings'.
When looking at the OWB documentation I can find 3 different data transformation logics: black-box, white-box and system-managed.
But when going to the OWB 10.2 design client I can't find anywhere this property on the pluggable mappings?
    Can anybody help?
    Thanks a lot in advance!
    Bart

I haven't seen that in the OWB manual but perhaps it just refers to how you can treat a pluggable mapping.
As a pluggable mapping is in effect a reusable component it can be tested independently.
Black box testing usually refers to testing with no knowledge of the inner workings of the component i.e. you test by passing specific inputs and ensuring you get desired outputs, what the component did in the middle is irrelevant to your test.
White box testing means that you test every path through the component so it requires a detailed understanding of the inner workings.
Not sure about system managed, perhaps that just means a system test where you test the whole application.
Pluggable mappings are useful to split large or complex mappings into smaller more manageable parts or to create a reusable component that you include in several mappings but only need to build/test once.
    Si
PS. prior to 10.2.0.3 I encountered many bugs with pluggable mappings.

  • There is a frequent flashing above my tool bar and sometimes a flashing black box appears over my Yahoo news. How do I make it Stop??b

There is a bright flashing light over my tool bar and sometimes a flashing black box appears over the Yahoo news. I tried Reset Firefox and that didn't work. I then uninstalled and re-installed Firefox and I still have the seizure inducing flashing lights.
When I switch to Internet Explorer I do NOT have this problem. Please help me because I do not want to go back to IE.
    Thanks

In case this is caused by Firefox 33 being incompatible with your graphics card/chipset driver software, could you test for a while in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions, hardware acceleration, and some other advanced features of Firefox. More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still run
After Firefox shuts down, a small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset).
    Any difference?
You can disable hardware acceleration for all modes in the Options dialog.
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the "General" mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"
This takes effect the next time you exit Firefox and start it up again.
