Small but annoying crackle sound

I've just bought some soundsticks II (Which are awesome by the way) and found that when the computer begins to play any sound there is a crackle. It sounds almost like a stylus being put onto a vinyl record (For those old enough to remember). It is particularly annoying when it plays the new mail sound as you hear the crackle before the bong.
It only happens on the external speakers or headphones and it only happens when going from silence to playing a sound so for example when I start a track in itunes or adjust the system volume. It does not happen if I play a sound when sound is already playing, for example if I change the volume or mail arrives when music is playing or if I change songs.
Any thoughts or am I just too fussy?

Thanks for your time guys.
Elmac: The sound doesn't occur through the internal speakers but it does occur through headphones, suggesting it is not the speakers at fault. I've tried reducing the speaker volume and increasing the mac volume and this does remove it but I think only because it is too quiet to hear! I've muted the mic volume but no joy.
Rob: you may be onto something with the cables as I did not notice it when I had the speakers in the middle of the room when I was playing, having unpacked them. (They were connected to my ipod). Now they are connected to the mac there are cables everywhere, and I also noticed it makes horrible loud buzzing sounds when they are powered up but not connected and if you touch the jack plug it sounds like a thunderstorm so I think the power cables are probably doing something.
My own new theory is that it is just a kind of connection noise when a signal first goes into the output channel. If I put my ipod earphones in and then switch that on it makes exactly the same noise, but this goes away when it I play something.
In any case the speakers sound so great I'm prepared to live with this little click.
All the best

  • Annoying crackling sound on the n96. (not the navi...

Hi, does anyone suffer from the same problem as me? If I listen to music and browse at the same time, there's an annoying crackling sound. It's not noticeable via the speakers, but it is on the headphones and line out. It only does it when I'm connected and browsing via 3g. Using wi fi doesn't cause it. I used to think it was because the phone was struggling to process the music and browsing and so I've waited to see if the new v20 firmware would fix it, but it hasn't.

    Hi
I have similar problem. My laptop is connected to TV thru HDMI Cable. Video output on TV is fine, but audio (sound) is coming thru laptop only. Playback device shows "CONEXANT HD SMART AUDIO 221 Speakers" only. I am using WINDOWS 7. Please suggest solution (s).

  • Small but annoying junk problem

    Hey all,
When I launch Mail, I always see a number next to my Junk mail folder that is from the previous day. I hope I'm making sense - If yesterday, I got 5 emails that went into the Junk folder, I will launch my mail today and see the same number 5 next to the box, even if there are none (Mail is set to delete Trash and Junk after quitting).
So, this is a small but annoying problem. I would like Mail to tell me the true number of Junk messages I have.
    Anyone know the answer?
    Thanks!!

  • Two small but annoying 4.2.1 problems

I see some people are having really serious issues with WiFi and syncing and full-on device failure. The problems my iPod Touch is having are minor by comparison, but still annoying.
Problem 1 is the album art. I've never had any problems with the album art. But now there are some albums for which the art displays correctly when the iPod is on, but I'm listening in standby mode and hit the Home button, all I get is my wallpaper. The really weird thing is that this is happening ONLY to albums which I've tagged and added album art in iTunes SINCE THE 4.2.1 UPDATE. All the albums that were already on the iPod continue to display fine in both modes.
Problem 2 is videos tagged as TV Shows. They also always worked just fine, but since the 4.2.1 update not only can I not sort them by episode number, the iPod doesn't even seem to SEE the episode number - every video in the iPod is labeled "Episode 0". But all the info displays correctly in iTunes.
These problems aren't the end of the world, they're just annoying. But if anyone else is having these problems and knows how to correct them (or at least if they've been seen elsewhere and are being addressed by Apple) I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

    Hi there,
I've got a 3G 16GB and seem to have a similar problem. I've installed 4.2.1 and my GPS is not working. Triangulation is working, but I can't get a lock with the GPS. I've done some research on the net and it seems many are experiencing this. I've tried many suggested methods to fix it but nothing is working. If you find anything out please let me know! Is triangulation working for you?
    Thanks!

  • Small but annoying Stickies problem

I use Stickies as a to-do list. When I have a bunch of things that I want to add all at once, I use keyboard shortcuts to make a bunch of Stickies windows. After typing in the to-do list, I have to manually resize every window so it doesn't waste screen space. Since then, I found out about the Window -> Arrange By option, but they minimize all of the Stickies, and the font is too small to read. So my questions are:
    1. Is there some way to make the Stickies grab-bar bigger?
    2. Or, is there a fit-to-text auto-resize option?
    3. Or, should I forget about Stickies altogether and use a third-party application?

I never got into stickies but many folks use it. I use OmniOutliner Pro for my to-do lists. I like the check box function and how you can nest related tasks. There may be some free stuff out there too but I thought that may help you a bit.

  • Small but annoying key problem

Hey guys, has anyone ever found with a key that it makes a weird noise i don't know how to describe it i think it's a friction sound, if so what have they done? I get it with the 'a' key and a slightly squeaky space bar.
    Thanks all.

Yeah, I know, he's not specific. Go through the preferences anyway and see if one of them could be the culprit. Here's another strategy: save a copy of your preferences in a hidey hole some where and then delete your current preference file. Logic will reinitialize a new default preference file as you run through the setup assistant. If the stuck note goes away, you'll know it was in there somewhere, if not, you could always put your original pref file back. That's all I got, dude. - Emile

  • A small, but annoying, problem using Safari/Google

Sometime after installing Mavericks followed shortly by the demise of iGoogle, I noted that I have not had the use of Search Results Snapback under History when doing web searches.  It is greyed out. I find it much more efficient than always having to start over at the Google homepage.  I don't know if this is the result of the Mavericks install or the change from iGoogle to Google.  Is there a way to get it back?

This has been discussed in several recent topics. Snow Leopard doesn't include these Energy Saver optimizations because their only unique effect is on the 'dynamic power step' clock throttling of Power PC CPU's, which Snow Leopard doesn't support. For Intel CPU's, the Snow Leopard equivalent is the "Restore Defaults" button, which just is a convenient way to set the sleep times & other visible settings in the preference to the Apple-supplied preset system values for the various power sources. The 'power step' equivalent in Intel CPU's is independent of the power source, so there is nothing special for a user to set to optimize it for one or another of them.

  • Small, but annoying...

Does anyone out there have any idea why my System Prefs icon would refuse to stay in the dock?? No matter where I move it, as soon as I close the window for S.P., it slides down to the right end by the trash, and then goes away.
It doesn't happen on my MacBook, only the iMac, and only started recently. Very odd. Thoughts?
    Chris

While it is in the dock, control-click on it and see if it offers to keep it or remove it.

  • How to get rid of the annoying clicking sound of an iPod Touch Keyboard

I just got an iPod Touch and I love it but I have a small problem with it. I'm really annoyed by the cliking sound the keyboard makes when you type. It's even more annoying that you can hear it without the headphones.
Is there anyway I can lower down the volume of the clicking? I'd really like some help with this.

    John Guo wrote:
Go to Settings>General>Sound Effects. Click Off.
As a note, this will remove all of the sounds effects on the iPod, not just the annoying clicking sound.

  • Advice about crackling sound on the P100-188

    Hi,
If you own a P100-188 and are experiencing crackling with windows alert sounds (you can check this by opening the sound volume on the taskbar and continually clicking on the volume adjust button), and to a lesser extent with music and other applications, it may be worth contacting Toshiba. I sent an email to Toshiba's Technical department at [email protected] explaining the problem I was having and to ask if they were aware of it, as one or two other people have experienced the same symptoms. They sent an email back asking me to contact Toshiba Global Support Centre on 0870 066 0191 in order to get further technical advice and assistance. On doing this a support assistant asked me to re-install the sound drivers, which I did with no success, the crackling sound was still apparent, as a result I'm now waiting for the courier to contact me in order to send my notebook in for repair.
The sound problem wasn't bad and I only contacted Toshiba in order to enquire if they were aware of the problem and were working towards a solution, thinking that it was driver related as it occurred while using speakers and through earphones. It seems now that it is hardware related and only repaired by open heart syrgery.
I hope this helps other P100-188 owners with the same problem.

Hi Andrej, all my dealings concerning this matter are through Toshiba Global Support Centre, they arranged to pick my machine up for repair. What is most annoying for me right now is that I've just realised that the latest drivers for the sound card came out the very same day as I sent the notebook in for repair! If the problem I was having is driver related (I'm still unsure), then it seems I couldn't have gotten more unlucky with the timing, but with my luck it's to be expected lol.
I contacted the support centre again today to enquire on the status of my notebook, and I informed the support person that new sound drivers where available for my machine. She then contacted the repair centre and informed them that new drivers where available and recommended they try them before attempting a more drastic course of action. If it turns out that the drivers do fix the problem, it appears Toshiba have went to a lot of unnecessary trouble and spent a lot of money in order to have them installed on my machine! It would appear Toshiba (at some level) where aware of sound related problems on this machine as new drivers have been released, it would also appear that support personnel have been kept in the dark, so to speak.

  • Crackling Sound Problems in Games with an Audigy

    Hello everybody,
I started playing Warcraft III, World of Warcraft and Battlefield2 quite a while ago and at that time I did not have any problems in game. Until one day I started playing World of Warcraft and a crackling sound appeared. This sound was amplified in close places such as caves and houses and became sincerely annoying when several characters were on screen.
The sound itself looks like a crispy sound of fireworks and it hides usual sounds.
I noticed that this problem was particularly present in Warcraft an World of Warcraft and sometimes in Battlefield2.
My PC does not lack in power (Athlon FX-55, Ati Radeon X-800 XT...)and has an Audigy Sound Blaster 2ZS and a 2. Gigaworks sound system.
The problem appeared on its own and i did not activate any particular program. I tried playing with a headset and the sounds remained. I do not have any problems when listening to music.
I noticed that when I raised the bass and diminish the trebble, the sound lessens but it is still present.
Any help would be truly appreciated.
    Sincerely, Dimitri

    "How old is everyones card"
mine is 2 years old, generally my Creative cards li've aroud 5 years.
"I also notice I get it after a while of playing bf2..."
This kind of problem is more often software than hardware. Don't forget sound as every other things in your pc need a code implementation. It can be a bug in the drivers, but also because of one, present in your game sound engine (not the first time I would see it).
    "I too have enough power..."
If your soundcard or any of your pc ocmponent wasn't receiving enough power, you would have other annoyances, like (no sound, or even reboots)
"see there are some beta drivers posted. Anyone try these?"
I prefer no using beta releases, sorry. This new drivers should do what they're said they do (see the details notes), but could also behave differently from one computer to another (the joy of betas).

  • Nokia N8 makes an annoying crackling click noise!!

    Hi,
My brand new Nokia N8 is making a annoying crackling click noise, which partly sounds like the start of a tape recorder during calls. The noise is sporadic and sometimes so loud that it keeps ringing in my ears for a minute or so. Flashing the software from Nokia care didn't help. Any idea what this might be.
If the answer was helpful, click on the star for a kudos

What is the current situation with your crackling noise problem on N8, is the problem solved?
    Here is my story:
First I should admit it is a great phone in terms of camera, music (multimedia) presently, however my experience with the phone was not good. Here it goes:
There was a strange problem, whenever I have a phone conversation there was a static noise (like electric buzz) loud, most of the time. It happened randomly and anywhere. Network signal was full most of the time. First I used on Dtac, complained to them they say no problem on their part, so changed to True Move (both 1800 mhz GSM), the problem was still there. Then I take it to Nokia Care and they change the handset for me, on the second handset it happened again. I was very disappointed as it is an expensive phone, I never have any problem like this before with any Nokia or other brand phone. I sold the handset at last. I really like Nokia and specially N8. Even the nokia care people do not have a proper answer to this problem. After searching on the internet i could find two nokia thread were people complain of this issue, but no solution or reason for this yet.
The tests I have done as follows:
    1. Dual mode (GSM+3G) on - crackling happened
    2. GSM only (3G off) - it happened.
    3. Other operators sim card it happened
    4. Hard reset it happened
    5. Take off screen protector and cover case, it happened.
    6. Signal strength full it happened. One thing I noticed it happened mostly on the GSM mode.
    7. WIFI on -happend, WIFI off - happened.
After getting back the handset from Nokia care, it was ok just 1 day and the noise started from the second day, get it replaced with a new handset, if the handset was faulty there was less chance to have the same problem on the new one, but guess what same problem on the new one. Next what I did buy a C6-01 (just launched), and same crackling noise, got it replaced again, second handset same problem.
At this point I was very detirmined to find the cause of the issue, so I did what ever is possible for me, and no correct explanation from nokia technician. In the mean time got a Nokia C5 used for week or so, Guess what NO PROBLEMS.
Done some research on the internet regarding this issue, so far found this thread and one similar here /t5/Nseries-and-S60-Smartphones/N8-have-a-sound-of-quot-Tik-quot-during-call/td-p/901759
here is one more but on C7 with the same issue: /t5/Cseries/C7-Crackling-noise-or-a-crackling-burst-during-call/td-p/1018395
Currently using HTC mozart with the same connection and sim, guess what: NO SUCH PROBLEMS.
I want to buy N8 again as I really love the device, but not until I am sure, that there will be no such issue again.
For you all please update here of your current situation.

  • K7T Turbo R Limited Edition and crackleing sound

I started getting a crackling sound recently. I never had that problem before. The only thing I can think of that I have done that may have started it was to update the bios and the via chipset drivers. I tried to reinstall the 442 drivers (only the pci part) but no change. I reinstalled the 443.
I read in other threads that it could be either a latency problem. Also moving the sblive sound card could do fix the sound. I don’t seem to have any latency timing adjustments in the bios and I tried moving the sound card to number 3 and the number 6 slot with no luck. I have tried a couple of 686 bug fixes and they didn’t work. But I have also read where that wouldn’t work so I removed them.
Is there anything that might work?
