Small Company - Would like to have an Apple Server...Sort of
I have a small company. Only 4 of us. I have killed all the PC's and we all have apples. i would like to have a real simple server set up. For simple file sharing, storage and maybe some ical. Can i just buy a mini mac and OS X Server software and run the mini mac as our server?
thanks
Brad
Hi bradley Glaberson-
You could do that.
Or, since you have limited needs, why not just by a Network Storage Appliance and use that?
If you want to use a Mac, you could use the mini without OSX Server. You can just enable file sharing on the mini, give all of your users access (it supports up to 10 concurrent users), hook up some externals and go with that.

I would like to have one apple ID and sign in for the Australian Apple Store and for the New Zealand Apple Store without it asking me to switch stores. Is this possible? If not can I setup two stores (one in each country) using the same email address and same password (both and / or either)?
An iTunes account can only be used in one store at a time, and you need to be in that country with a valid billing address on your account for that country in order to use it there. An email address can only be linked to one account, so if you want two separate iTunes accounts then you will need two email addresses

I would like to know which apple server dictation connects to so that my proxy server will stop blocking it. Which apple server does it connect too?
I would presume so, but it might be worth your while to experiment and play around with different combinations to see if you can block FaceTime while keeping Game Center open. Good luck!

I purchased New Iphone. I would like to use new apple id on new Iphone. Can I sync my contacts to new id on new iphone ?
A new Apple ID represents a new user, and cannot do anything with data from another user.

I would like to know if Apple Server is right for me.
I am the owner of a construction company that manages multiple jobs. What I would like to do is have a server set up that allows tiers of access. To explain further I would like to have 4 levels of pw protected access. In decending order there is Owner, Superintendent, Project manager, and Sub-Contractors. Each would need to be able to upload important documents to the server such as submittals and recipts. I would like the server set up so that I have access to all of the files from each section. In addition, I would like the Superintendent to have access to all files below him, Project Manager all files below him, and Sub-Contractor only files he uploads. Basically permissions going downward. Also I would like to be able to set up where each would have log in information so that they could access the server. As this is a small company in the scale of things it would be nice if each job had only access to their information. The company wide address book and calender would be nice as well and ability to access them via their iPhones would be great as well. Can anyone help me with this?
What do you mean by cumbersome?
I mean that it will take some data entry and testing, but that would be true in any case.
Also how easy will the interface be for the people trying to upload?
Very easy, as long as they're on your local network. The server will appear as an icon in the sidebar of any Finder window. They'll click to connect. After they enter the username and password the first time, it will be automatic. -
I switch the power on on my MacBook Pro I get windows7
this is no problem but I love my IPad and would like to use the apple system on my MacBook .
CAn anyone tell me which keys I press to change from windows 7 to Apple most articles I have read tell you it is easy but not one says "firstly press x then press y and when you see c press v so I no idea how to do it,
I am well educated but I am 75 so I do not understand the jargon but I am fairly good at using computers and I do like the app system.
I Would be very pleased if someone can advise me
best regards
TOmReboot, hold the option key down as soon as you hear the chime. When the Boot Manager appears select OSX instead of Windows.

If I preorder an iPhone 5 will it arrive at my house on the 21st or is that when it'll ship? I would like to have it the day it comes out so if it would be faster to order it online and then pick it up from the apple store, let me know! Thanks
My experience is with the iPhone 4S and the "new" iPad, both of which I ordered early on the opening pre-order day. In both cases the wording from Apple during the media event was "pre-orders will start on ABC date for delivery on XYZ date" which was also the same day they were to go on sale in stores. In both cases, the UPS truck rolled up earlier than usual XYZ date as promised to hand me my new iPhone/iPad. In both cases there were instances of confusion due to some pre-order confirmations stating incorrectly "SCHEDULED SHIPPING DATE: XYZ". In both cases that caused much fear, panick, and trepidation that fed upon itself as it permeated a widely scattered forum linked community of "adults" that seem to collectively revert to a state of childish impatience and ultimately child-like glee as they obsessively refresh their dedicated tracking browser window; become convinced that there is no hope of escaping the dread delayed shippment, and then finally receive their new toy exactly when they were supposed to. Not that I personally would ever succumb to that of course. Er uhm ... it's just what I've seen you know .. nothing I can really relate to.

I have an iMac, iMac, 10,1 10.8. I would like to have iCloud downloaded to my computer. Does my computer have the system requirement necessary. I use iCal on my Apple Notebook and Iphone 4S and want it to my Mac Desktop to sinc with all my Apple Products. Thank you!
The minimum requirement for iCloud is Lion 10.7.5 (Mavericks preferred): the iCloud Preference Pane does not appear on earlier systems - the MobileMe pane appears on Lion and earlier but is now non-functional - you cannot now open or access a MobileMe account.
To make use of iCloud you will have to upgrade your Mac to Lion or Mavericks, provided it meets the requirements.
The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
2GB of memory
OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
7GB of available space
Lion is available in the Online Apple Store ($19.99). Mountain Lion (10.8.x) is also available there at the same price (though it's reported to have been removed from sale in some countries so may well cease to be available generally) but there seems little point as the system requirements are the same for Mavericks (10.9.x) - which is free - unless you need to run specific software which will run on Mountain Lion only.
The requirements for Mountain Lion and Mavericks are:
OS X v10.6.8 or later
2GB of memory
8GB of available space
and the supported models are:
iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
It is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications).
You should be aware that PPC programs (such as AppleWorks) will not run on Lion or above; and some other applications may not be compatible - there is a useful compatibility checklist at http://roaringapps.com/apps:table -

I would like to know why Apple doesn't have Glossy Widescreen Display on MacBook Air
I would like to know why Apple doesn't have Glossy Widescreen Display on MacBook Air ?
MacBook Air looks like a "vintage" laptop with that horrible screen frame.Apple may consider your suggestion if you suggest it to Apple directly.

I have a used iMac 21.5 in that i would like to reset the apple id so when I get updates in goes to my id instead of the previous owners id. Which in the case is a relative. How can I do this ?
The Mac, it's OS and the iLife apps are still associated with the original owners Apple ID.Normally the original owner needs to follow the process to prepare a Mac for selling or giving it to someone else. They need to call Apple Care and request that their Apple ID be disassociated from the Mac, erase the Mac and install the most recent version of OS X that shipped on the Mac, reinstall the iLife apps and deauthorize the Mac from their iTunes account.
If you have a bill of sale of some sort and can prove the Mac beongs to you, Apple may be able to assist you. Call Apple Care and explain the issue. -
I have made "Lock Pattern" which I would like to share with Apple.
