Small Computer Hard Drive, How do I move my Library to external, Can I?
I have a small 40 gig HD on my laptop. I am transfering my CD's to IPod and it is of course using a lot of my computer hard drive, I will run out before I can transfer all the cd's to it to then have it update my ipod. Can I get an external hard drive and move the library to that and have my Ipod and Itunes pull off the external drive? Anyone know how I can do this?
Otherwise, do I just erase my library in the computer and go to manual update on the ipod so it doesn't erase what I already have on the ipod?
To move all your audio tracks to an ext. hd:
Launch iTunes - Preferences / Advanced: Point the folder that holds your music to folder on your ext disk.
Quit preferences
From iTunes Menu Advanced select "Consolidate Library...."
Now all your music should be copied to your ext. drive.
Verify that all tracks have been copied - then delete your old "iTunes Music" folder.
Don't touch your "Library" files - they can't be moved to an ext drive.

I recently had to back up itunes play lists to external hard drive whilst computer was fixed. reinstalled itunes but dont know how to reinstall my music from external hard drive. help?
The same way the library was copied/moved to the external drive.
Copy it from location A to location B.
Then point iTunes to the correct library. -
Details:
250 GB Internal Hard Drive
50 GB iTunes Library
1 TB External Drive w/ 153 GB of Open Space that is Partioned
Steps followed:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1449
I get Stuck on Step 11 Consolidate Files to new external drive location with Error message: Not enough space to move files.
This makes no sense Apple. The purpose in doing this is to free up space on my internal drive?
Any help would be much appreciated as I'm stuck and can't seem to resolve or find any suggestions to resolve...Don't use that method. It does move the whole library, it just moves the media. The whole library is best left intact.
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the new location of the library. -
my hard drive crashed. I regularly duplicated it to an external hard drive. So can do I find the files I need to recover my music library, audible books and podcasts to my new hard drive?
Restore the iTunes folder from <User's Music> in the backup to <User's Music> in the rebuilt computer, install iTunes. Job done.

My computer hard drive crashed and all my i-tunes were lost - can I re-load them from my iPod?
My hard drive crashed and destroyed all the i-tunes that I had burned from my CDs and purchased. The are still on my iPod Classic, can I load them on the computer, I have re-installed the i-tune program and the last purchase I made was re-installed, but nothing else. I don't want to sync my iPod, iPhone and Shuffle and lose them. What should I do?
Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time. It will recognize the iTunes library on the reloaded PC as a new library. If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library. So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your PC first.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

Lost hard drive how do I move music and pictures from iPhone to new drive
I lost the external drive that had itunes on it. How do I get all my music and pictures from my iPhone to the new iTunes program?
Music is not stored in the iCloud. Past purchases can be reloaded from the cloud, and iTunes Match provides this function to non-purchased music.

Meanwhile my ipod has all my music and podcasts up till a month ago. What will I lose if I put my external drive music back on?Hi Perilman,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! I understand that all of your iTunes media is on an external hard drive and you would like to move that media onto your new Windows computer hard drive. The following article has step by step instructions for this specifically. Part 5 in the External drive section is probably what is going to be most relevant to you.

The backup files for my devices are saved to my internal hard drive. I have a small internal hard drive and would like them to be saved to an external drive. How can I change where iTunes automatically backs up to?
This has nothing to do with iTunes as iTunes provides no way to move or relocate the backup files.
A search of google or the fourms would reveal ways to create a folder link to relocate the physical location where the files are stored. -

Help needed. I have a 3TB external hard drive partitioned into 1TB's. I used one partition as backup for the main computer hard drive. But now it is greyed out as shown in the disk utility and its name changed, i dont know how that happened, i tried verifying and repairing it but had no luck. I also tried mounting and unmounting it but still no solution. Anyone to help please?
Looks bad. I would strongly advise backing up the stuff on the other two partitions as soon as possible in case the rest of the drive goes wrong.
Beyond that, Disk Utility has limited abilities to repair disks, DiskWarrior uses a different approach and might, emphasis might be more successful. It has certainly done the job for me in the past when Disk Utility could not.
