Small Cracks Around Screw on Bottom ibook

Four small hairline cracks around the screw that's on the bottom center of my ibook. The cracks vary from 1/4" to 1/2". Is this anything to worry about? Does yours have cracks? BTW my 12" g4 ibook is a year old this month.

sound like normal wear and tear in respect to the iBook, one of the faults of using the plastic Apple use to make the iBook.

  • Crack in plastic around screws on bottom of Y50-70

Around a month ago I noticed that there was a small crack in my y50 on the back of the laptop. Due to the crack the screw fell out of the computer. I've been monitoring it to make sure the situation does not get even worse and it seems like the crack hasn't progressed. However I am still concerned due to the amount of money I have spent on this. I have only had the laptop for around half a year and have never dropped it, so I was very suprised that this occured. I would greatly appreciate any advice on the situation.

I have also noticed that my Y50 has cracks in the plastic on the back. Mine are a little more severe as I unfortunately didn't catch it before I saw plastic sitting on my desk when I was packing up my laptop to take to work. It's never been dropped and after contacting support and asking if it was covered by warranty and being told no (and that it would cost 100$ for some reason!), I proceeded to use Appoxy to hold the darn thing together and now the other side has cracked all the way through. If there would be some way to purchase a new backplate with all of my info that is Lazer Etched onto the backplate that would be my preferred way to go. I have contacted the US support line and been transferred back and forth from the tech center to the Parts Dept. for over 2 hours with no success. Any help would be appreciated at this time because my only other course of action would be to purchase an unmarked backplate from Ebay and use that until such a time that I have to turn the machine back in for warranty repair. Here has been my most recent experience: Called US support line and called tech support: George

Is there another way to close apps other than deleting them from the multitask bar.....I have a small crack in the bottom of my screen and that part of the screen does not recognize the touch.

There's generally no reason to be closing them that way at all. The apps you see in the recents bar are just that, apps that you used recently. Most of them are doing absolutely nothing. The only apps that are really doing anything in the background are ones that play music and ones that are using location services. Just leave them be.
    Best of luck.

  • Should I have my iphone 5 screen fixed? Small crack on front bottom right.

I have a small crack on the bottom right of my iPhone 5. I intend to upgrade to the next iPhone. I usually sell my old phone when I upgrade. Apple charges $150  for the repair . Is it worth it?

I was under the impression this was an iPhone hardware forum with helpful advice from community members, gdgmacguy. I would guess that others might have been in a similar position and could offer helpful input on this question. I welcome others who feel they can offer advice to chime in.

  • Hairline crack around backside of LCD hinge

    Hello, all.
Does any Apple support people read this discussion group?
I would like to let them know about my issue.
I bought my MacBook early this year. It is a white MacBook.
Problem is that it started to show hairline crack around the bottom side of LCD hinge, where the bottom case starts and gap between the LCD and the bottom case.
So, I had it to be replaced at the Apple's Northrdige store. It was about 1 month ago. And from a few days ago, it started showing the crack again!
I have never dropped my Macbook and always carries by wrapping it. And my carrying case is also a shock-absorbing one. So, there is no chance that it was crashed or dropped.
I know this issue pretty well. There have been lots of reports and posts at many blogs. I suspect this is due to the plastic material and heat, and can't be fixed for good. If I have it to be fixed now, then it will show the crack in a few month again. It's just a matter of time.
I have been a long user of a Macintosh from the days of the Macintosh LC. (Also a long user of Windows/Dos and Unix machines. So, I know the quality history of many brands. ) I guess this kind of problem started from the days when the PC price went down too much. For Apple, this is my first time to see this kind of problem ( I know that some of you already suffered this with your Mac Cube and others. )
So, when will we have the quaility products Apple was so famous for back in 1980's again?
What shall I do with my MacBook? For this kind of problem, shouldn't Apple replace my machine with a new one?

*"Does any Apple support people read this discussion group?"*
Generally no. These are user-to-user forums
*"What shall I do with my MacBook? "*
Call Apple support and see what they'll do for you.
*"shouldn't Apple replace my machine with a new one?"*
    No. Not after only repairs.

  • I never heard about the Macbook recall for cracked casing along the bottom of the keyboard. Is it too late to get it fixed?

I never heard about the Macbook recall for cracked casing along the bottom of the keyboard. Is it too late to get it fixed?

I realise maybe your personal issue was sorted, but it may help others:
I took my wife's 3-year old Macbook into the genius bar yesterday expecting to pay for a new casing, but was told there was still an extended warranty for Macbook plastic case (provided up to 5 years old and no signs of abuse)
They will replace the top case and screen bezel at no cost, which I think is excellent service.

  • I bought an iPad 2 for Christmas and a small crack appeared near the middle of the screen, I put on a screen protector but it spread and now goes across entire screen, it is barely noticeable and everything works, what can I do to get it fixed.

I bought an ipad2 for Christmas, a small crack started near middle of the screen, I put a screen protector on but it spread the length of the screen. It is barely noticeable and everything else is fine. What can I do to get it fixed? Is it under warentee? The store I bought it from said call the apple store. I called the apple store and they said bring it in but store is a 80 minute drive and they might fix it for at least $200 more. I described what happened and employee said that was impossible or basically I am a liar. Any thoughts out there? I just find it hard to believe that with all iPads sold none have had an imperfection with the glass. Mean it still works but why do I neen to pay hundreds of dollars to fix this?

The technician apparently doesn't believe, or at least isn't sure, that the crack would have appeared without some sort of impact to the iPad. I have no way of knowing whether or not the crack in your device appeared spontaneously nor not, but what I believe really doesn't matter; it's what Apple believes, and if they believe that some damage occurred to the iPad, due to a drop, being hit, having something dropped on it, whatever, If you can't convince them that the crack occured spontaneously, then the problem will not be covered under warranty and you have to pay for the replacement. You can try going to the Apple Store, explaining the situation, and hope that the technician agrees that the problem wasn't due to user damage, but no one here can guarantee that. You'll just have to try.
And yes, sometimes people do lie. I'm not saying that you did, but the Apple technician has I'm sure heard a number of lies from people in similar situations.
    Regards.

When it gets bad enough, you will need to replace the screen.
Your warranty covers defects in material and workmanship.
That sounds like accidental damage -- glass does not tend to crack spontaneously.
Check your homeowners insurance to see if there might be coverage.
