I dropped my t.v remote on my MacBook Pro and it left a small dent on the computer. Is there any way to fix it?

its aluminum so you cant pop it out, you could replace or find way to fill it in

There's really no way for any of us here to know one way or the other. You will have to take it to Apple and they will tell you whether they consider it covered under your warranty or not.

An authorised repairer might be able to help. The Apple warranty does not cover accidental damage so you will not get a replacement

iPad's do not normally have coverage for accidental damage unless you bought insurance to cover it. The new iPad's have Apple Care + available that covers accidental damage. Apple does not repair iPad's. Otherwise you will need to buy a replacement iPad from Apple for about half price of your model or get a 3rd party repair shop to fix it. Folks claim that having a 3rd party fix it will void the warranty. Others say that the fact that you have damaged the iPad has already voided the warranty.

I left my iPhone on top of my car. At about 50mph it fell off. It had spider web cracks all over the back and a small section of the front. But it still works perfectly. Thanks for making such a tough phone!

I found my iPhone on the side of the on-ramp thanks to "Find my iPhone". It was within 5 feet of where it had been tracked.

I have a small dent in my iPad. Does the warranty cover this?

I was walking down my hallways, and tripped over my dog, who was laying right in the middle of the hallway. I fell over, but suffered no injuries. My iPad did though. It's the new iPad 3, so I just got it a few months ago. I have a small dent on the back of it, due to my arm falling on it. I was afraid that the camera would not work (this is not the Retina camera on the front, it's the one on the back), but it works just fine. The upper right-hand corner of the iPad is dislodged fromthe metal-type shell, and when I'm using my iPad, I can see the light in the inside. The sleep/wake button still works, but the dent just looks horrible. I bought a warranty when I bought the iPad, but I'm not sure if it covers it.

Accidental damage is not covered except to some degree with Applecare+ if you elected to purchase that.

I have a few small dents in my MacBook

I bought it on Boxing day 2011
It had a small dent on the day but I ignored it (was too happy playing with it)
After dishing out over $1200 on it, I treated it like gold and I do still to this day,
I never ever dropped it or anything
And now, I have like 3 dents in the lid and the bottom cover isnt exactly aligned with the bottom
Can I ask apple to fix this? I think it is a defect, as I haven't abused it at ALL.

Your warranty covers defects in material and workmanship.
Dings and dents are not covered.
For dent repair, talk to an auto body repair shop. They may want to paint it when the dents are pounded out, especially to cover the grinder marks and the Bondo [body repair compound].
Apple services Macs by replacing major sub-assemblies with new ones, or occasionally re-manufactured ones.
Once you find out the price to replace all the parts with dings and dents, you:
1) may need a defibrillator
2) for just a little more money, you can probably buy a new Mac and sell the old one.

Dent on the brand new macbook

I've just received my new macbook purchased on the apple store online. And I found a small dent under the trackpad. I don't know what to do now. I'm so flustrated. It's to hard to arrange return through internet. Can I just go to nearest Apple store and ask them for exchange? Did anybody have experience with such kind of issues?

You can try a store, but I doubt they will exchange it--especially if it's a CTO unit. The store could send it in for you if they don't exchange it.

Preventing dents in the casing

Hey everyone!
I am a college student who is eagerly anticipating the arrival of her new macbook pro this week. I recently ordered it to replace my 15" powerbook G4, which was in need of a new logic board. I was very emotionally attached to my old powerbook, so I really only wanted to get that logic board replaced. However, due to some small dents in the casing of my laptop, the $350 replacement was going to cost me $1,500. As I am on a tight budget, I was forced to take out an apple credit card to buy a new computer instead. My question for you all is, is there a good way to prevent these same dents in my new computer?
I never dropped or abused my powerbook in any way, but because I am in school out of state, I have to travel a lot. Because the airports require everyone to take their laptops out of their cases, it's hard to protect them in that sort of situation. I don't even know how I got these dents, but I can't afford to run up my bill with apple again. I've seen some hard cases online, but so far they've been really outside of my budget. Do I have to spend a lot of money to protect my computer?

I am so sick of the typical boring black ballistic nylon bags that I want to vomit! Actually, the “best” is very subjective although...
Personally, I prefer different attire for my MBP based on where I go and how I will travel. For short journeys to the local coffee shop, I use a padded sleeve such as ZeroShock. For trips out of town I use a Ralph Polo Back-Pak. For air travel I use a slimmer sleeve (Tucano) for insertion into my full-featured leather Rawlings soft-side Brief Case. Yeah, it’s a bit much, but that’s just me.
Here are a few notes on each:
ZeroShock: Great as a café cruiser. Provides excellent protection for moderate falls and knocks although wire rim type reinforcement adds bulk for insertion into some supplemental cases.
Tucano Sleeve: Superior fit for MacBook Pro without any excess slop - great for insertion into a messenger style bag, etc.
Rawlings Brief case: Great quality and particle storage. Great price only at outlet stores such as Marshals.
Sleevz: Micro-fiber equivalent to shrink-wrap and can be cumbersome to apply and remove although it’s serves a purpose.

My Macbook Pro 17" 2.44ghz all of a sudden one day decided to not boot up. When the power button is pressed the sleep light in the front on the latch release turns on and there is a small running sound but it never boots up and the screen never lights up. Anyone else have this problem? Any ideas?
I'd love to repair it but not if it'll cost 500 bucks or more to replace the logicboard.

yes, you can locate and copy a file from your HD to a USB key using UNIX commands. If you know the exact name of the file which you’re trying to locate, try this:
find / -iname filename -print
This command will search your entire internal disk for the particular filename. If you know that it’s within a particular user account, then you can save search time with this variation:
find /Users/username -iname filename -print
Either variation of this command will print all files found which have the given filename. Presuming that you’re able to identify the correct file, you can copy it to a USB key using the command
cp -p filename_returned_by_find /Volumes/USB_volume
If you’re not sure which volume name your USB key has, this command will show you what the possibilities are:
ls /Volumes

Remove a dent in the Lid of MacBook Pro 13inch

Hey there!
So I have recently purchsed a MacBook Pro, 13inch however, I was gutted to find that I have a dent in the lid og MacBook. The dent is quite noticeable but hasn't cracked the surface (Thank goodness!) However, there is a slight discolouration of the glass where the dent was made on the screen (The dent is on the outer 'shell' to the left of the apple (opposite from the bite of the Apple).
I ahve looked around other help topics and they mainly include taking off the lid and removing the glass by hand however, I am not particularly good at detailed DIY projects.
I have been thinking about a case but I would prefer to be able to remove the dent from the exterior - is this possible? If not, how much (aprox.) would a lid replacement cost ($NZ) and would it be worth it?
I would really appreciate any help, ANy recommendations/previous experiences would be great!

you can only turn on the front camera if you have the option to turn it on in the menu. As far as I heard, E71x has such an option. If your phone is not that version, you cant.

DV7 - 1020us: Removal of the Front Plastic/Glass Cover of the display. Is it possible?

Hi.I have a Pavilion DV7 - 1020US Somehow, and i don't know how, some particles of dust probably, are between the glass protection and the lcd.Before you say it's dead pixels... No, it's not dead pixels, it's really some kind of dust or anything like... anyway, regardless of the cause, i want to disassemble the display AND take off the LCD screen. I managed to remove most of the parts following this Maintance and service manual for the DV7 Series, found along some others at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3754328 But in this manual, starting at page 76 and following the steps from 1 to 24 (As the manual says, steps 25 and beyond refers to models equiped with brightview display, mine seems to be the AntiGlare thing), there's no explanation in how to remove the LCD Screen... The lcd Screen is protected in the front by some glass or plastic thing, and i found no way to remove it... I already searched the forum, and the solution posted here mentions a link that open just a HP's blank page... Anyway in the same thread, the user m5tech replies this: "The video did not show the removal of the LCD Screen. The LCD is glued to the edges of the LCD front cover.(...)"So It seems that the video solution in this thread shows the same procedures that's in the manual i mentioned. Searching over the net, i found nothing that explains how to completely disassemble the display...I only find things like this good tutorial, but as mentioned on the manual above, this is another display model for the same notebook model, mine disassembles from the back, and the bezel can not be removed that way... So let's forget what's the point of doing this, what's the cause of the problem...I just want to entirely remove the LCD screen and replace it, how do i do this?Is it possible for this model? if it helps or just for curiosity, here is some images of how is the Display disassembled at the most i could do... Hi,I'm having the same problem, 2 yrs later. I did get the back off. In the HP Maintenance Manual, it appears they may have grouped the dis-assembly for both types: with bezel, without bezel (mine). I took out the front bottom screws (behind the rubber plugs). One screw was missing (found it inside). After the 2 screws are out, it took some gentle prying of the back lid to release it. I used the edge of a pocket knife just inside the plastic, rotated it to bite, using the side of the knife to nudge the back cover up. I did this all along the bottom, being careful not to go to far in and cut something. I also used a small flat tip screwdriver to keep the space open between the front & back panels. It took a while but it did release. The entire back cover is lined with clips. The bottom ones are different as they allow the back to slide up...about 3/16''. Once you slide it up, it stops. (*** Careful...the logo cable is attached) The back can then be pulled up to disconnect the cable. I found my model number on the back like some of the links showed. I included the links I used to piece this together. Thanks for the info and start point. I'm going to order the LCD and go from there. Why doesn't LabView scale my objects properly in the front panel?

In LabView 6.02 (Windows 2000) I have experienced problems when using the "Scale all objects on panel as the window resizes" option under VI properties. Try the following example: Go to the front panel and draw two arrows (from Decorations), one vertical and one horizontal (make sure they are perfectly straight). Now, resize the window, using the bottom right corner several times. You will soon find that the two arrows become increasingly missaligned and are not perpendicular to each other anymore. The problem gets worse the more you play around with the window size and they will never return to their original state. Installing the 6.02 patch did not seem to help at all.

First of all, some objects do not scale whatsoever in LabVIEW. These include refnum controls and text.
As far as the "scale all objects on the front panel as the window resizes" option goes, you have brought attention to an issue that I will announce to the R&D team. Currently, when you resize the screen, the objects on the front panel are resized at the same fraction of the original size, yet small rounding errors occur. As you move the window around, this small rounding error multiplies accordingly. Once you maximize the window, the small rounding error is translated into a large-scale degree change in the orientation of the (previously) perpendicular arrows.
What action are you trying to perform that caused this issue? If possible,
please post some screen shots of your front panel or give me explicit details as to your programmatic goal.
One thing that you may try in order to prevent this misalignment and orientation shift is to highlight the arrows. Then, click the "Reorder" button on the toolbar and select [lock]. This will lock the objects and prevent them from resizing while the rest of the screen resizes (see attached image).
Again, I'm sorry if the aforementioned phenomenon causes you any inconveniences, and I will be sure to announce this issue so that preventive changes are implemented in future LabVIEW revisions.
