Small Gap In Regions When Recording?

Hello everyone,
I've noticed for a while that when I am recording from my Apogee Duet interface into my MacBook Pro that I can see small "gaps" or "spaces" in the region that is being recorded at the time.
When the recording stops the gaps fill. But it still concerns me as to what exactly is going on?
I don't believe I am over working my HD or CPU because I barely see their meters show any indication of use.
My I/O Buffer size is set to 256, I've tried lowering it to the lowest but that just sounded pretty crappy, and then again trying it at the highest possible buffer size of 1024 which had noticeable latency.
Is there anything I can do to get these "gaps" to disappear?
I don't think that they effect the recording much but I'm not a professional so I wouldn't be able to tell.

Hi,
since this is only a graphical issue, forget about it. While recording, Logic has better things to do than to smoothly calculate the waveform display. It simply waits until the recording is finished until cleaning up these graphical glitches. While recording, the waveform display is only "quick&dirty" sketching.

Hi 'all',
I have gaps in the sound when I record with Audition.
I dit chance the audio hardware took a new Harddisk and put a new system on it (XP) The only software on it is Audition 3.0 and CD Architect. Chanced the DMA from 6 to 5. Still the Gaps,...?! Nou I'm lost.

There was a new driver, there was a new driver. I didn't verify a rumour. So stupid of me. I installed the new driver and it works again! Your remark about the driver made me think, so I investigated this driver issue and solved the problem, thanks to your remark ofcourse. How drivers are a sensibility-issue in the computer world. My tape machines luckily don't need no stinkin' drivers.

No Audio Appearing In Region When Recording

This is the second project in as many days that this has happened to me. I'm attempting to record a new track in a project (after i've already recorded several others)...and when i press "record", Logic tells me it's recording, but nothing appears in the region. all settings are correct, the track is record-enabled and i just can't figure it out. can you please help me? do i have an incorrect setting? i haven't changed anything about my project since yesterday when i last worked on it.

I've done the same. I have an 8 input Presonus firewire and had a guitar going into input 6. I went to record and nothing ... it was because I set the track to input 1 and had the guitar plugged into input 6! (brain ****!)

My iphone, when listening to ipod, has small gaps in songs (1 sec or less), yet in itunes, the gaps are not there?

Basically, I've had it with a few songs now, where a random part of the song, has a small gap in it, where as on my iTunes, there is no gap, I orignally thought it could be from where I burned the CD onto the computer, but this is not the case as there is no gap on iTunes.
Any help would be muchly appriecated!

Logic Pro when recording audio and midi takes, the regions sometimes become confused. The midi tracks line up with audio tracks.

When recording midi and audio tracks simutaneously the midi tracks don't always line up with the software instrument channel. They may show up on the audio track. Sometimes they appear white instead of the normal green. Any suggestions?

Can you explain further what the gaps look like when you export the movie. Are there black spaces, for example? You mentioned earlier that "it jumps quickly between clips that I edited which gives it a jerky appearance at those transitions". So you are possibly just seeing a change in sudden movement when moving from one clip to another.
I've noticed when shooting with my AVCHD camcorder that if I quickly move the camera straight after pressing the record button to stop recording, a jerky movement appears when played back. This is because the camera is still recording for a fraction of a second after pressing the button, that is, there is a slight delay before actual recording stops on the hard drive (unlike a tape based camera).
I simply edit out these annoying movements. When hovering the pointer over the beginning or end of a clip, a small icon appears, shaped like a left/right arrow. Click on the icon and a small section of the clip end (or beginning if editing the start point) will be partly encased in an orange border. You can then drag the border's handle inwards in increments of one frame, up to one second duration. Repeat this if you wish to trim more than one second. I find this better for short trimming than just dragging the clip ends inwards and using Trim to Selection from the pop-up menu, as it is quicker and has more precision. To enable this feature, in iMovie > Preferences - Browser tab, check the box labelled "Show Fine Tuning controls".
Of course, this may not be what you are seeing. But I can't really envisage what you mean by "how do I reduce or eliminate the larger gaps", as there should be no gaps, as explained by AppleMan1958. Could you please provide some more information, or include a screenshot of what you are describing.
To take a screenshot, press the key combination Command+Shift+4 - a crosshair will appear on screen. Drag this diagonally across the section you want to capture. A .png image file will appear on the Desktop. When posting here you will see a camera icon in the reply window's menu bar. Click on the camera icon then follow the steps provided (it lets you navigate to the image). Sorry if you already know this!

Creating new tracks when recording in Cycle (loop) mode

I'm having an issue when recording in cycle mode.. I'm able to record (in seperate tracks) in cycle mode. however I can only play the first take (first track) I recorded, however all the subsequent tracks that were recorded do not play. Even when I try 'soloing' them they still don't play. You can see in the arrange window that audio data was recorded on those tracks however they have a "faded" effect to them. They're also not muted. Am I missing a setting?

The issue you describe when recording in cycle mode was a huge frustration for me until I discovered that I was not aware of a simple principle that made all of the difference... I am wondering if the following explanation may be part of the problem that you are experiencing.
The principle is that muting a region, muting a track, and muting an audio channel are three distinct and separate functions. Until I got my head around that principle, I continued experiencing the same frustration that you are having with recording in cycle mode.
Recording in cycle mode results in muting the regions below the last take at the top. When trying to unmute the "tracks" below the top region to listen to the other takes, hitting the mute button results in ALL of the "tracks" either being muted or unmuted, yet the separate regions below are still muted!
The key is to unmute the REGION that you want to listen to (and not the track or the channel). The way to do this is to hit the escape key to bring up a local tool box menu wherever your cursor is... then click on the mute tool which changes the cursor into a mute tool, then click on whatever regions you want to unmute...

Webcam Video pauses when recording sound from microphone

I have a strange problem which i am encountering when recording and playing back webcam video.
I am developing a small application for recording webcam video and audio using FMS and playing it back later from FMS.
I am using AS 3.0, FMS 3.5 and flash CS 5.5
When i record only the video from webcam without sound from microphone the playback is fine. But when i record microphone sound also along with the video, and when i playback the video pauses right where the sound starts for 10 sec or more and then it starts playing. Towards the end the video pauses again and only the sound goes on till the end.
I tried setting the buffertime to 50 before ns.publish and ns.play but that didnt help either.
I tried using the flvplayback component and even their it pauses.
Any help is appreciated.

Haha, that is such a genius use of common sense! Thank you, I didn't think of that. I certainly will!
However, does anyone know if there is a way of adjusting the program of garageband to fix this issue? Using headphones certainly fixes the symptoms of my problem, but it doesn't actually address the root cause: garageband should only be recording the input through the microphone. I shouldn't need to wear headphones. (And doing so inhibits my ability to clearly hear myself play, and stay in tune.)

MSOutlook HTML newsletter issues - large gaps between large images and small gaps...

Please can you help me!
Searched the web & found plently of advice but still getting formatting display issue when viewing HTML newsletter in MS Outlook.
Fully aware on the basics regarding the multiple issues when creating HTML newsletters but this is driving me crazy.
Apparently there is a image height limit within Outlook (can't find out what this is) so I have sliced my larger images into 5/6 parts which solves the display issue in Outlook.
But the gaps between the slices are now being displayed as small blank spaces within Hotmail.
I did use <br> between each slice as without caused the fixed 600px wide containing table to expand due to the slices stacking hoz.
Also still getting small gaps (like <br> spaces) between all images in Outlook when displaying perfectly (no gaps) in a browser.

When recording on a basic track......

When recording on a basic track from an external DJ mixer, is GB considering it a real instrument or a software instrument? Furthermore, Can you record multiple times over a cycled region from a standard dj set-up (two turntables and mixer, mixer connected to audio input via RCA - 1/8 inch)?

The small gap at the top of the page

Theres a small gap in the top of the page, when I view it in
Layout View. Its got lines going across diagonally, and takes up
about half a centimeter from the top of the page. When I preview in
browser, my logo should be at the top left hand corner, but instead
theres a white gap going across the top. How do I get rid of this?

You need to zero out the margins and padding on the page.

Probably because you have the MIDI Thru parameters set to loop?
Click in the background of the Arrange window, and in the Region Inspector (MIDI THRU) deselect 'Loop'

How can I change Country/Region when I still have store credit balance?

I registed an iTunes account when I lived in Japan and I used Prepaid Card to redeem Japanese Yen to account (Country/Region=Japan). I have 60Yen in account now, this amount is smaller than cheepest apps (cost 85Yen).
Right now, I came back to Vietnam and want to change Country/Region and to continue purchase apps in Apple Store:
- When I change Country/Region, I received error message "You have a store credit balance; you must spend your balance before you can change stores.". But I couldn't spend money due to not enough money.
- When I change Payment Type to Visa card, I received error message "You payment method is not valid in this Store. Please enter a new payment method."
How can I change Country/Region when I still have store credit balance? Please help me solve this issue.

You can't change your account's country when you have a balance on it. Importing to iMovie: How do I use an external usb mic when recording with the built-in FaceTime HD Camera?

Hello all
I'm scheduled to work with a friend this week; I'm going to help him make a simple audition DVD. I promised him I had the necessary equipment and such.
I was importing from the webcam using iMovie. If I can't use my external mic to record for the video, there is more involved in the editing process. I was hoping to record the video and audio into one package. I'm using the built-in FaceTime webcam on my macbook pro and a ZoomH1 on usb.
I've tried changing the audio in system preferences: input to H1. This works when recording with audacity or anything else. I even changed the input on FaceTime to H1. There aren't any preferences I can find in iMovie to change the input for importing video directly from the webcam.
How do I change the audio input for direct import on iMovie?
OR
Is there something else I can do to have HD video and HQ audio captured in one video file on my macbook pro?
I suppose I can record the video and audio separately but that is usually much more involved. This is why I got this usb microphone lol.

I just found using QuickTime Player to record a movie works great. I can easily change the audio input. iMovie is silly. lol
