Small Issue 10.5.8 Update

Two days ago installed the update 10.5.8 and all seemed to be very good.
BUT, now every time I start my iMac 24", Aluminum Intel Core Duo, 2.6GHz my screen defaults to FULL Bright.... I reset the slider bar in System Pref's> Display back to the dimmest (far left) setting and all is well until I shut down and restart. Then after restart of boot up the display is back to FULL Bright.......?????
Hum..... What can I do..?

baltwo,
Wow,,,, now that is what I'd call a real "chicken dance". It about like resetting your car alarm/door lock remote sequence. The only thing you left out is what side of my mouth my tongue should be in and do I hop around on one leg or both. (Only making light my the issue,,,, keeps me sane!)
Before I follow your good instructions, would you think it would be worth a try to download the Apple Site v10.5.8 file and do a reinstall? This install was from "Software Update".
Down here where I live it is already the hour of the "cocktail",,, so,,, I think I'll await your "reinstall yes or no" and 'till the quite of tomorrow morning over coffee to either follow your "chicken dance" instructions or do a clean update reinstall.
I sure thank you for the well outlined advise and instructions!
Now,,, my ice is melting...........

  • 10.4.11 Has Apple addressed/fixed issues with the latest update to Tiger?

Like many of you, I installed the 10.4.11 update last weekend with disastrous results. I eventually had to Archive and Install and my machine seems to be recovered. Has anybody had this problem and gone on to try the update a second time with better results ?? Any words of wisdom?? or had some sort of feedback from Apple to indicate they have or are going to resolve the problems with this update.

+I just posted this on the thread that seemed geared to those who "had success" (many more than half had issues) with the recent update after pi55ing and moaning due to crashing several times while trying to post there. Subsequently I found this thread and a bit of absoultion. I have eliminated the links, thinking them redundant but they are posted to that thread.+

A little story, when I first tried to install Jaguar on my then Beige (Yeah, remember them!) G3 MT, it took me a full six months to get that "Darn Cat" in that house! Oh, how I sweated and swore, you talk about "legacy", I waved every "dead chicken" that was suggested to no avail. Ended up that before I bought the unit someone had switched out the CD/ROM for one from one year later, still Apple issue, mind you. I sent to OpAmp and got an original and "The Cat" slid in as quick as grease through a goose. That's how tightly wound Apple was and still is in many ways and is why they stopped the clones. This was one of a slew of many little things you had to get used to in "Mac Land".
One other small thing you used to do a "clean install", you still can, but under OS 9, after you were satisfied (Conflict Catcher made things ever so easy!) all was peachy, you could simply trash your Previous System Folder and get back some valuable disk space. Well not to long after my success with the install of Jaguar and still not understanding OS X at all, I was still working mainly in OS 9, I did a Clean Install on my OS X, horsed around with settings which was difficult without Conflict Catcher and bravely trashed my Prev Sys Folder. Don't ever, EVER do that. What is a seemingly empty shell but for redundant Apps and meaningless abbreviations, is indeed a necessary if gigabyte eating Albatross you are doomed to carry!
My point with these two parables is that we are creatures of trust and habit, living on borrowed time. We have been blessed with a computer system that is virtually foolproof given certain caveats, caveats if adhered to even marginally would guarantee success. I my self have gotten into some very bad habits of late and think that this may be the cause of my computers malaise.
Drop to your knees and be grateful you don't have a PC (shudder!)! Yes Virginia, there is an Insanity Clause! I just installed WinXP on an Intel Mac, and after it was over all I wanted was a stiff drink and a shower!

  • Two small issues switching from Leopard to Snow Leopard

    Hi,
I just recently switched to Snow Leopard from Leopard. I was considering Lion, but heard some bad things about it.
Either way, I noticed two small issues. The first was a hot key set on my Logitech mouse. I had a button preset to all windows expose. In the software
for the mouse driver you can set it to expose specifically. (Its not just setting it to a certain F key). For some reason this doesn't work anymore.
The other problem is when I link my mac book pro to an external monitor thru an hdmi cable, I notice on the tv screen it reverts back to the default
desktop background. Instead of having the picture I set, it shows up on the big screen the blue and purple space image.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

    Thanks for the reply,
The Logitech mouse driver said there were no updates available so I figured the expose had something to do
with the new OS system since it now said expose and spaces, which Leopard never had spaces.
So what I did was figured out how to just set it up with the F keystroke and it worked!
When I link my Mac Book Pro to my tv, I use an external keyboard which is more up to date with the quick f keys up top and the arrangement is set up differently [ such as the volume keys are now f 10 and 11 instead of f 3 and 4 or something like that] Hopefully when my mbp is linked to this the keystroke I have set for expose still works. I believe it will.
And as for the desktop bg, after unplugging my tv I notcied it still stayed on the space theme. So I believe I know what may be the issue. I set that bg off of a picture on an external hd, and never saved the image on my computer hd. So I'm assuming it saved the desktop picture in some cache thing or something and once it got linked to an external monitor it got refreshed.
I now how that image on my computer and set, so hopefully the next time I link my computer to the tv, it'll stay.
    Thanks!

  • Help on small issues after WinXP downgrade from Vista

    Lenovo 3000 v200
I recently downgraded from Vista to WinXP Professional, and I must say I'm much happier with XP.
Some issues on the install: although I downloaded all drivers from the Lenovo site, the install didn't work from my usb floppy drive.
It recognized the floppy on the F6 portion of the install, but then later it kept asking for the disk to be inserted (it was already in the drive).  Workaround was to install by changing to "compatibility mode" in the BIOS, and after install, loading all drivers and changing BIOS back to SATA.
All features of the laptop appear to work perfectly; camera, fingerprint reader, wifi, etc.
HOWEVER: in the device manager, there are 3 yellow exclamation points in the "Other Devices" section, and each of them is labeled "Base System Device."   Does anyone know what these are?  Why are they not recognized as specific devices?  LenovoCare doesn't recognize them either, and I have no idea what drivers to attempt to install for mystery devices.
Also, "Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus" won't install.  I have the current driver, and I've tried updating from LenovoCare, but no luck.  As I don't use a modem, this seems irrelevant, but I'd like to install it just the same if possible.
Finally, the LenovoCare recognized a need to install a "Hotkey" update, and it claims to successfully install, but everytime I run LenovoCare it says I need it again.  Any comments or observations?
Again, the computer works just fine even with these small issues.  In fact, it is better than fine; it is a joy to use and a real speed demon with XP instead of Vista.  So I'm not trying to do any rocket science or potentially screw up a very nice situation, but I am trying to iron out these small nuisances.
Thanks to all of you who consider my trivial problems.  I really appreciate having knowledgable individuals like yourselves help out a very modestly skilled, but reasonably ambitious user.
    Cheers,
    Fred

    Hello Fred,
I created a blog on this forum called.... "I Explain How To Downgrade From Vista To XP Successfully On A 3000 N100 Laptop" Locate this message and read through it. Try the "Auto Detect This System" I Talk about. It will load the latest drivers and the latest...BIOS..... for your particular model if you have not already upgraded it. You did not mention if you had upgraded your BIOS...... if your running an  "OLD" version.... THIS..... could be your problem.

  • Some UI papercuts and smaller issues

The CS6 Beta, while generally awesome and full of plenty of new things, has plenty of smaller issues too. I know and understand that this is pre-release software, however I fear that some of these might be missed on release which would mean that they would never get fixed. Just personal experience with big software companies, nothing personal.
So here are just some that quickly caught my attention:
Hex field in color picker, while extremely useful, is awkwardly sized (especially as Hex values are only 3 or 6 symols long)
Ruler tool would greatly benefit from the info tooltips introduced for the Selection and Move tools. Same would probably apply to the Eyedropper tool.
Clicking on a shape layer's thumbnail no longer hides the shape's outline (I know that there's a global setting for this, but I heard some people disappointed with this on Twitter)
Combining of all Workspace layouts into one dropdown menu. I personally loved the rapid switching possibility provided by the button layout in CS5.
Additionally, I noticed a rather annoying bug with Type tool: Activating a text layer with the Type tool doesn't update the information in the toolbar nor in Characters panel (try it with two differently-styled text layers — the information for the old one is still displayed even though the new one is active).

    I can't reproduce that.
    Here's what I did:
    1.  Create two different text layers, with different fonts, different colors, different sizes.
    2.  Click on the T in the Tools Panel to activate the Horizontal Type Tool.
    3.  Now if I click on each layer all of the things you mention are updated with info from that layer.

  • Issue with SUPERDRIVE FIRMWARE UPDATE 3.0

Hi! I'm having what I feel is a small issue with the SuperDrive Firmware Update 3.0 that Apple released on August 31st, 2009. Software Update suggested I apply this update, as my SuperDrive's firmware (HL-DT-ST DVDRW GA11N) was KA15 and needed to be updated to KA16. Apple said on their website that this upgrade would "eliminate the noise made by the optical disk drive during system startup and wake from sleep" (as seen on http://support.apple.com/downloads/SuperDriveFirmware_Update_30). I installed it and restarted my iMac.
However, the SuperDrive's noise was not gone; it's still as loud as it was before. When I turn the iMac on, the things that I hear are, first the fans (or whatever that sound is), then the SuperDrive noise and finally, the iMac's startup sound.
Did I do something wrong? Am I missing something? Is this normal? I followed every instruction the Firmware Update installer gave me, but the noise isn't gone...
I tried to re-install it but then it would tell me that my computer wasn't eligible for the upgrade because the firmware was already up-to-date... Oh, and by the way, the SuperDrive does not make any noise when waking up from sleep mode, so it only has to do with the startup process.
I'd really appreciate some info on this issue...
    Thanks!

    Hi
you are not alone, same behaviour for me: drive is not making noise when waking from sleep, but does when starting up.
I tried resetting PRAM in case it helps, but no luck.
Not that it annoys me, I can live with this, but the update clearly doesn't do what it says.

if yes then how can i save my data or get out of recovery mode.. Is there any safe mode or something like that on which i could access my data..
P.S. I have not taken any backup of my iPhone on itunes..
Please help me sort out this issue..

Recovery mode doesn't mean that all your data is already lost. You only lose your data if you restore it.
When you plug the phone is into iTunes hold down the home button. iTunes may then give you the option JUST to update the software first. This should not get rid of any data.
However, if iTunes is only giving you the option to RESTORE and update, then you will lose your data I'm afraid.
    Hope that helps!

  • "Tearing" issues on CC 2014 update

    All,
I'm experiencing the "tearing" issues with 4K files on the latest Adobe Premiere CC 2014 update. I'm using GPU acceleration on my system and it should be able to easily handle 4k footage with CUDA and OPEN CL. All files are .MP4 format UHD 3840x2160 100mbs shot on a GH4. All files were captured on a Sandisk Extreme Pro 16gb (95mbs class 10 SDHC I). I have confirmed that files themselves are NOT corrupt as playback on the GH4 shows clean files:
    My system:
    Windows 7 ultimate (64bit)
Gigabyte Ga z97x gaming 7 mobo (latest bios)
    coolermaster CPU cooler
    Intel core i7 4771 @3.5ghz
    GeForce GTX 780ti (344.75 driver)
    16GB corsair DDR3 ram
    Samsung 1tb SSD system drive
    corsair 7x750m PSU
So...my system is pretty darn "beefy" scoring a consistent 10,000+ score on 3DMark (93%)
    A few notes:
I AM using an all SSD workflow (system OS and applications all on Samsung 1TB SSD)
Editing SSD is 500GB Western Digital (I have tried files on both SSDs....same issues)
I mention the SSD's because there are some folks that swear AGAINST them in editing etc....
I'm seeing this happen in the SOURCE window....MOST of the time it translates into the sequence after render. Whats weird is that sometimes the rendered sequence file will have "tearing" in completely different areas than the source file!
I have and AERO theme turned ON (as suggested in this forum)
Overall, I'm ready to throw in the towel with frustration. I'm reading about a lot of issues being reported with the latest CC 2014 update...with a lot of forum users saying that they are falling back to software rendering etc. The promise of Open CL computing and CUDA rendering of 6k files on an off the shelf laptop is escaping me ( A quick Peek at Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014.1 (v8.1) - YouTube )
Here is what I am seeing:
HELP Adobe - I'm reading about so much of the same issues with this latest update!

    Hi Rave,
Thank you for taking the time to reply. I found that simply deleting the ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/AAMUpdater/ directory was a faster solution than taking the time out of my day to uninstall and reinstall all of my Adobe apps. I will be submitting a bug report to address the issue with the Creative Cloud updater.
    Thanks,

  • Are there any known issues with the latest update to iTunes on Windows 7 maxing out the processor and nearly bringing the system to a hault.

Has anyone experienced an issue with the latest update to iTunes (11.2.0.115) for Windows where iTunes pegs out the processor at 97%, 98%, and holds there for maybe 15 minutes before dropping to 50%. During that time, the system is basically useless. You just have to ride it out. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium.

  • Issues not resolved after updating to latest SP BO 4.0

Issues not resolved after updates to latest SP
We initially installed BO 4.0 with SP4 FP3. After that updated the installation to SP6, SP7, SP8, SP9 and SP9 patch3. We skipped SP5 as it had no issues effecting the way we work.
Now we discovered that most of the important issues for development like being able to modify merged dimensions by adding a dimension are not resolved, despite the updates which would have fixed the issue.
    Any ideas?
Is it possible to install SP5 afterwards and then update again to the new SP10?

You don't need to install SP5. Latest SP you have installed, will have all the fixes of SP5.
You cannot install SP5 after installing SP9. There is no need to install aslo.

  • Just three small issue...

    Hello All,
Well after a few months of delay (First me damaging the bois chip then me burning out the motherboard) I finally got my computer up and running. I do have some small issues that I hope someone may be able to help me with.
    1.   When I shut down the computer it restarts itself. The only way I can shut it down is to hit the power button in the back of the case.
    2.   When I do attempt to shut down the computer and it restart on it’s own I get no video. It also gives three long beeps. Now please understand that the video card works fine when the computer is on or when I do a manual restart. This only happens when I try to shut down the computer.
    3.   When I try to use the RAID by plugging up two hard drives the computer well get stuck at the screen where it read the array configuration.  The configuration can be correct with the RAID set for stripe two (WD 13GB and a WD 7GB hard drive) Western Digital hard drive’s.
Any type of help would be great. Here are the specs to my computer.
    KT3 Ultra2-R
    AMD 2100+ XP
    512MD DDRAM
    WD 20GB
    Goldstar 40x12x40
    Acer 52x CD-Rom
    Jaton Geforce 2 MX/MX 400

wd also have funny jumperless master with no slave setting
normal master only if it has a slave
    why raid none matching drives
a stripe will only be 2x smallest and a mirror size of the smallest

  • Issues with Ipad software update.

i'm currently experiencing issues with trying to update the software on my Ipad 2 (brand new). For instance:
    1. when i try to update the software for my Ipad 2, the download doesn't go through, when i'm connected to the internet (which i've checked constantly).
    2. when i try to update any of my applications (when there's an update available), none of the downloads go though, when i'm connected to the internet (which i've checked constantly).
i have had no problems BEFORE, whenever it came down to updating applications, etc. on my Ipad 2. i've tried updating more than five times and still the same problem. it's getting very frustrating, please fix this!!!
p.s. - when i tried to update, a box pops up and says:
when that popped up, i even checked my network settings, etc. and reset everything, and then tried updating. but the problem is still their!!!

The eaiest solution is to download the update file directly from the links listed here:
    http://osxdaily.com/2011/10/12/ios-5-download-available/
These are links to the Apple servers.
Pick the file that matches your device and dowload it. Connect the device to iTunes, and Option-Click the Update button (Shift-Click for Windows). This will give you a dialog to navigate to the file you downloaded.
    Hope this helps

  • Performance issues with latest iTunes update

    Hello everyone,
I'm having somewhat of an issue with the latest update for iTunes (10.5), ever since the update was installed the 'AppleMobileDeviceService.exe' is using all my processing power.
Now I know my laptop isn't the latest spec, but before this was never an issue. The only way I can still work with it is when I turn off the service via the Task Manager.
When I launch the iTunes programme it gets even worse, another service called 'APSdeamon.exe' is eating up the processor aswell, albeit they both consume 50% now. As a result I cannot access the iTunes Store or do much else.
I do have to mention all my music is stored on an external HDD which is connected via USB to my laptop, but this was never any different.
I've reïnstalled all Apple components twice already, one including a specific deletion of all Apple program folders manually.
Since I can always turn off the services manually it isn't a big issue, but does anyone have any suggestions or ideas how this could be resolved?

    Hello Mauricio,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with installing the latest iTunes update.  I recommend following the steps below:
    Resolution
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
    Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
    Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
    Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
    Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.
When you get to the step to uninstall iTunes, it is important to uninstall iTunes and the related components in the order listed in the link for that step.
