Small question mark on top border of finder window

On my Macbook pro, finder window has a small question mark on top border. Pls help me how to remove this..

Hi i dont know what that is, but i have that same problem and i am more worried than bothered.  If you want to remove it though you can hold down command and drag it out of there and it will poof away.  you can also do this with the icons on the top bar by the spotlite.

  • Question mark help please (? in Finder window Toolbar)

    Hi there
Since my upgrade to Snow Leopard, I have the following question mark in open windows (see pic below):
Anyone know what it is, or how to make it vanish?
    Thanks, Francis

It indicates that there's an item on the toolbar that Finder can't find. Right-click the toolbar in a Finder window, and remove the offending item.

  • Why do I have a question mark on top of Ichat Icon

why do I have a question mark on top of Ichat Icon ?

    Hi,
If this is in the DOCK it because that icon (and the links it has) have lost contact with the original app.
    Open th Applications folder.
Drag iChat to the DOCK (Creates the icon and links)
If his displays properly drag the old one Off the DOCK and let go (Puff of smoke animation)
IF it is in the Applications folder that you see this then iChat is most probably broken in some way and you will have to reinstall it  (I will needs to know which version for a more complete answer on that)

  • Pictures from different sites doesnt show, it has small question mark sign at the center, why???? Please help.

Please help, i cant see any pictures on any web pages, it has small question mark at the center only.

Move the photos from the Trash bin in iPhoto onto the Library icon to get them back in their proper events.  Then check the thumbnails to see if they are still behaving the same.  If they are  make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • I have a question mark on top of my old imovie icon

on my older imac there is a question mark on top of the imovie icon and it would not let me open it.

If there is an iMovie in the Applications folder, you may be able to restore
the icon in the Dock. In any event, you could Control + click the iMovie
icon to see if you have other options. If the iMovie is not in Applications,
it may have been moved elsewhere, so do a Spotlight search for it.
And if an iMovie was upgraded but the icon in Dock
goes to an older version, it may also be inop.
Hard to say why this happened.
    Good luck & happy computing!

    That's hard to say.
    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as MAC Data Recovery, Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro.  Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.  Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk.  Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads. Recovery software usually provide trial versions that enable you to determine if the software would help before actually paying for it. Beyond this or if the drive has completely failed, then you would need to send the drive to a recovery service which is very expensive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.

  • Question marks across the top of new finder windows

    Hello,
When I open a new finder window everything looks and works fine but I'm seeing 3 large question marks in the top gray area of the new finder window.
When I click it I get a message that says "The Item Can't Be Found".
    What is this all about?
    Thanks

you can put a link to any item in the toolbar. just drag it there from finder. you can get rid of such a link by command+dragging it off the toolbar. that's all there is to it.

  • Question mark at top of Finder window

I have just upgraded a friend's iMac to Tiger and in any Finder window there's a question mark just to the left of the search box. When I click on it, the message is 'The item cannot be found'. I've never seen this on any other machine running Tiger and wonder what its function is ...?
    Thanks.

    Hi, G. F-L.
Dragging the icons of files, folders, disks, or server volumes to the Finder toolbar creates an alias to the object. If that object (file or folder) is deleted, or if the associated disk or server volume is no longer mounted, then the related alias in the Finder toolbar displays a question mark.
The same holds true for icons in the Dock.
In addition to the Command-drag gesture Rod suggested, one can simply Control-click icon bearing the question mark in the Finder toolbar and select "Remove Item" from the resulting contextual menu. The icon bearing the question mark will then be removed from the Finder toolbar.
    Good luck!

  • Please help me with my mac. when i turned it on, a small question mark icon (?) appears at the center.

    hi,
Please help me out with my MAC model m6497. when i turned it on, only a smallquestion mark appears at the center and does not proceed to its descktop at all

That folder with the question mark icon means that the MacBook can't find the boot directory. That can either mean it can't find the hard drive or the Operating System data on the hard drive is somehow corrupted.
Put your install DVD into the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) and reboot. Be sure to either use the disc that came with your Mac, or, if you installed a later Mac OS X version from disc, use the newer disc. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option Key until the Install Disk shows up) until the apple shows up. That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
Or if you are running 10.7 Lion, boot from the recovery partition (Command +R on boot) and use Disk Utility to repair your OS 10.7 partition.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Disk Utility and click it. When it comes up is your Hard Drive in the list on the left?
If it is, then click on the Mac OS partition of your hard drive in the left hand list. Then select the First Aid Tab and run Repair Disk. The Repair Disk button won't be available until you've clicked on the Mac OS partition on your hard drive. If that repairs any problems run it again until the green OK appears and then run Repair Permissions. After repairing use Startup Disk from the same menu to choose your hard drive for restarting from your hard drive.
If your hard drive isn’t recognized in Disk Utility then your hard drive is probably dead.

That means there's an item in the Finder's toolbar which doesn't correspond with anything available to it. Press the Control key while clicking on it and choose Remove Item.

  • Question marks at top of folder when opened

I am trying to help a friend with his computer, he is completely computer helpless so am trying to see if I can solve his problem. He has a canon ip6700d printer. just recently it stopped printing. when the icon of the printer is on the dock, there is a red exclamation point next to it. I downloaded the print driver from Canon's site, installed it and the printer worked again, next day he called me, said he made about 6 prints and the same problem re appeared. I noticed when he opens up a folder that right under the name of the folder, there are 2 question marks there, does anyone know what this means?
    thanks

    John,
Before you installed the new Canon driver did you delete the old settings in System Preferences > Print & Fax?
Before that did you open the print queue and clear out all pending print jobs?
Did you try to Resume or +Start Jobs+ in the print queue?
    One more question, what folders?

  • Question mark in right had corner of windows

I just had my first crash of a 1 year old macbook. after a hard reboot, i noticed that there is a question mark to the right of the search in the right hand corner of the HD window, or any other folder window. when i click on the question mark, i get a small window that says "cannot find item". very wierd. other than that computer seems to be working fine. anyone see this before?

It appears that random data may have been written to one of the plist files during the crash.

  • MacBook Pro won't boot (question mark folder) after blue screen on windows bootcamp

    Hi,
So, I was on windows, using bootcamp, and I was creating partitions on a pen drive with it, and then it asks me that it needs to restart to apply changes.
But then, while restarting, a blue screen occurred (**** windows).... And I forced the shutdown pressing the power key.
Then, I simply turned the MacBook on, trying to boot on my snow leopard and I got a flashing folder with a question mark on it.
Now I can't access any partitions on it, if I press option key on startup I get a blank window!
I tried to reset PRAM, repair the MacOs partition using the snow leopard DVD (it shows up fine, along with windows partition and EFI partition), and I still don't get my startup disk showing up...
How can I fix this? I can't loose my files and I need to work with it :/

    I just fixed it!
For future reference, what I did was:
    - Booting from OSX DVD, go to disk utility
    - Erase windows partition (yap, I lost it...)
    - Do a "repair disk" on every partition of my hard drive
    - Restart
    And it just worked ;)
Thankfully I had no important files on my windows partition, now I will just reinstall it.
