Small thin line at the bottom when converting analog to digital

I encounter a small line at the bottom of my videos (this is also on the DVD that I burn) when I try to convert my Sony Hi8 to Digital while using iMovie HD6. When I try this at home on my Sony Viao PC with the built in Giga Pocket Converter there is no line. I thought that it might be my DV converter a datvideo DAC-200 so I got a PyroA/V Link converter and the result was the same. When I use my Sony DV Camcorder every thing is great. I talked to apple support and they said that it was probably the tape. I told them that I had tried several HI8 tapes and the result was the same. (they were no help) Does anyone have these issues BB

4. Frequently Argued Questions
4.1 Isn't 720 the real width of a 4:3 image? If not, then why are 720 pixels sampled instead of 711 or 702 (or whatever)?
720 pixels are sampled to allow for little deviation from the ideal timing values for blanking and active line lenght in analog signal. In practice, analog video signal - especially if coming from a wobbly home video tape recorder - can never be that precise in timing. It is useful to have a little headroom for digitizing all of the signal even if it is of a bit shoddy quality or otherwise non-standard.
720 pixels are also sampled to make it sure that the signal-to-be-digitized has had the time to slope back to blanking level at the both ends. (This is to avoid nasty overshooting or ringing effects, comparable to the clicks and pops you can hear at the start and end of an audio sample.)
Last but not least, 720 pixels are sampled because a common sampling rate (13.5 MHz) and amount of samples per line (720) makes it easier for the hardware manufactures to design multi-standard digital video equipment.

  • Green line on movies bottom when converted with H264/MPEG4 codecs-HELP PL!

    Hi all,
Every time I convert movies from any Quicktime-readable format to .mov format (including .mov to .mov), the resulting movie has a (horrendous) *green line* on the bottom.
This happen only when I use Quicktime Pro. No other application give me this bad result.
As only one of many examples you can see in this screenshot a movie (right) made using iShowU with "Apple none" codec, which means that is totally uncompressed.
To reduce the size I have used QT with H264 codec. The result is (always) that green line (left).
No matter if I change the movie size or crop it. After all when I export it to save, the green line will be there again.
Could somebody please help me with this issue?

    *Thank you very much.*

    Thank you David.
    Did work!
I also read the post you suggested.
My original video was 426x175 and I changed it in the export properties to 426x 174 . One (1) pixel smaller, and voila!
Doing this and reading that post doesn't match with Apple's straight forward style.
Imagine if you have a stubborn movie because of its dimensions?
I felt like doing medieval engineering.
    Thanks a lot again, David.

  • When doing the app exposé gesture, is it normal to see a thin white horizontal line at the bottom of the screen after minimizing a window?

I noticed that when I open two windoes (say Safari and Trash can) and minimize both windows so they go on the dock, when I do the swip down gesture with 3 fingers (App Expose´) there is a thin white horizontal line at the bottom of the screen. Does it happen to every macbook pro out there?  Is this normal?  Hope it's not a display screen problem...

You would have to have multiple pages of the app minimized.
This is what it looks like with Safari with 1 page open and 4 minimized.

  • How do I eliminate VCR transfer artifact?  (the thin line on screen bottom)

    Hi,
The source I am working with is a DVD, however given the age, quality of the material and artifact in question, I am 99.9% sure the original source was a VHS tape.
What is the best way - with respect to quality - to get rid of the thin buzzing black/white line of the bottom of the screen when seen on a computer.
I understand that this isn't a problem on a TV because of Overscan. However, on a computer it is and I want to make movies that I people can watch on their computer without seeing the line - for example, let's say I export it for an iPod.
I have the Quicktime Mpeg2 codec and I will be using MPEG Streamclip to export the source DVD's VOB to a DV Stream. At this export point, I have the opportunity to ZOOM or Crop. Is this a good time to get rid of the white line and what are the best settings?
I will be editing the DV Stream in iMovie. When I go to export in Expert Settings, I will also have a simular opportunity to fiddle, but I don't think my Zoom/Crop options will be a malleable. However, does anybody know if this is the time, and not the MPEG Screamclip export, to get rid of the VCR line?
    Thanks.

    Hello, Matthew,
Someone else asked something about this recently.....here it is--see if this helps you. The question was about 'junk' at the top of the video, but the answers should be the same for your problem. There are several options given, but you might like cf/x's best since it is free:

  • Random thin white line at the bottom of my picture

Okay i have 344 pictures in total on my iphone 4s that i synced from my computer, the problem is some of the pictures have this very thin white line at the very bottom of the picture but when you click the button edit the white line just dissapears or if you set it as background the white line is gone and sometimes by it self the white line dissapears then later on reappears. Is this a software or hardware issue and how do you fix it?
Oh also when i shut my phone off then on the pictures that have white line at bottom doesn't have it anymore then later on it just randomly re appears and i know the pictures isn't suppose to have a thin white line at the bottom because on my computer when i open it its not there.
So please if anyone know if this is a software or hardware problem and how do i fix it thank you .

So you only see it in QT Fullscreen mode?
The reason I'm pressing this is that I've seen green lines LIKE this with issues resulting from what seems like a very hot video card.
Usually they 1) aren't that crisp and 2) don't always show up each time you view it.
And this is AFTER compression, yes? For sure this isn't on the original material? Make sure you set your canvas in FCP to 100% size to see all of the lines.

  • Thin green line at the bottom of my QT exports from FCP

    Hello,
I have exported a series of QT vids from FCP. Each QT video file exhibits a thin (2 px)green line at the bottom of the player window. I can't seem to narrow down what is making this line appear. Can you please offer some suggestions? Remedies?
    Thanks so much in advance.
    Utilizing:
    Quicktime Conversion

    H.264 codec for HD footage
Custom 660x377 frame size (varied to see if that would fix the issue, did not)

You have Canon ZR950 mini DV Camcorder, why not make a firewire connection and do DV data capture into the Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1 Capture Window?
Do you have any reference for what you are attempting to do or is this a creation of your own? Could you confirm what you describe as "just capturing video".
    a. From your information, you are doing Get Media/Webcam or WDM Device with the Capture Window showing the Capturing Device as "Dazzle DVD 100 Video Device". What type of connection are you making between the Canon ZR950 and the Dazzle DVD 100 and the computer?
    b. What exactly do you expect to be putting on the Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1 Timeline from this capture...DV AVI or something else?
Coming from the perspective of Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1 known issues, I would ask you to consider:
    a. Remove the check mark next to AutoAnalyzer in the Capture window. Even if you were doing this Capture the "usual way", that is highly recommended.
    b. Go to Edit Menu/Preferences/General, and compare your results with and without a check mark next to enable GPU playback. As a cross reference, please go to Edit Header/Effects/Video Effects and detemine if there is a category of Effects named GPU Effects. Do the same thing for Edit Header/Transitions/Video Transitions and determine if there is a category of Transitions named GPU Transitions.
And, the general drill for all users of Premiere Elements 8.0
    a. Are you working with the automatic Background Rendering and AutoAnalzyer Features turned Off?
See Premiere Elements workspace Edit Menu/Preferences/General for background rendering option and Elements Organizer workspace Edit Menu/Preferences/AutoAnalzyer Options for AutoAnalzyer options.
    b. Are you working from the 8.0.1 Update version of the program?
    Please consider.
We will be watching for the outcome.
    Thank you.

  • How do I remove a small line at the bottom of the page?

    Hello!
I'm formatting some work for a client and I can't seem to find out how to remove this line at the bottom of the screen. It's on every page. It's not a line that was drawn in because I can't click to remove it. Has anyone seen this before?
    Thanks,

  • I format a cell with a double line at the bottom and it appears until I move to another cell and the formatting is lost.

In Numbers, I format a cell with a double line at the bottom and it appears until I clik on another cell and then it disappears.

When you describe the "double" line are you talking about something like this?
If so this is only selecting an edge of a cell.  You still have to select:
    1) Line style using the menu to the right of the one I have circled (currently  "Thin")
    2) Line width using the menu to the right of the previous one and, finally,
    3) the line color using the menu to the right of the previous one
Even so I have not found a way to copy cell border formatting so I ALWAYS wait until the very end to add border formatting.

  • Help with a weird little blue line in the bottom right corner of my lightbox gallery?

I get a weird little blue line in the bottom right corner of my lightbox gallery when viewing in Safari and Chrome.  Its not there when looking in Dreamweaver or Firefox.  I'm going crazy!  Can anyone help?

I have added to following code to sample_lightbox_layout.css
    .lbGallery a {
                    text-decoration: none;
That fixes the dash, which is an underline. The default style for a link is an underline and since it was not defined the tag gets the default style for the underline.
    Good luck.

  • Printing in Acrobat X gives an extra unwanted line in the bottom margin

Printing in Acrobat Reader X gives an extra unwanted line in the bottom margin. This margin should normally be blank. The line pattern follows the pattern of the print inside the margins. How can I print without this extra line?. The problem does not occur with the same documents opened in Acrobat Reader 9.4.

I had the same problem when I created my pdf for my Realtor flyer using microsoft publisher. I was able to get rid of the unwated line by using a png file in the publisher before generating the pdf.

  • I am getting a weird green line at the bottom of my screen...

I am trying to burn a DVD in iDVD.
I keep getting a green line at the bottom of the screen. I tried "squaring" the pixels before outputting the project, but I didn't render the project this way in FCP before trying that.
    Could that be the problem?
I also tried buring at 1x.
    Any help would help!
    Thank you,
    Evan Jacobs

Well to answer the questions. This artifact is in fact a physical one because you can see it when you boot the Mac and sign in with a different profile. I decided to test my luck at the local Apple Store just to see what they said. They looked at the display for about 3 minutes and then said that it would be nearly 700 bucks for parts and labor to basically put a new display on my laptop. He said that since its a TFT screen chances are on of the layers within the screen are messed up hence I see this black line. I decided Im going to look elsewhere and see if I can't find a solution here. If worse comes to worse, then I'll live with it till the Pro Book is out and get that with Apple care.
