Small type in photoshop menu

I'm trying to create a menu in photoshop for my dvdsp project... I'm a video editor and very new to photoshop... I've read that font sizes should be more than 20pt, but that's not an option for me... i need about 3 paragraphs of copy to go into this menu...not a button, just a description of the contents...
I created my menu in photoshop, using the ntsc preset, 720x480, RGB color and 72 dpi, save it out as a png-24, and insert it DVDSP in a blank menu as a background. My encode settings are CBR at highest possible bitrate.
I've been messing with this for some time... currently the final burned disk looks great on the computer screen, but on the tv using a set top player it's highly pixellated and the small font is unreadable. in fact the 3 lines in the middle of the paragraph appear to be smashed, missing the top and bottom of each line. photos I inserted are also blocky, when they looked great on my laptop using apple's dvd player
I'm so confused. Using the square pixel setting in photoshop is much worse. I need this to play on both computers and televisions... That has to be possible, right? I know they're different beasts but my store bought dvds look the same on both ... how do I do it?
what am I doing wrong?

As a quick aside just remembered something else that gave that crushed/squeezed look you described, the spacing for the text in PS, sometimes it you move it off of auto line height to something that is less and stilll looks okay on the scrreen, it may looked crushed
Also some combos of text and colors, such as pure white over black, can look funky (bad funky, and not bad meaning good funky, and not music cool funky )...shaking text and so forth
As to the thumbnails it sounds like there is not much to do unlless you can bigger pictures (they sound real small(?))
here is also an audio track from the album playing. I don't need it to do anything else... is a menu the right thing to be using for this? is there another way?
You could make an actual video track that has the text change/description over time and may be able to control the encoding better. May also be interesting becasue you maybe able to get more visuals or info over time
Menus with audio would not let you do that if you are putting song in the menu (if you were going to use more than one screen to use bigger text)

• How do you increase type size in menu bars and panels?

I recently abandoned my Mac Pro 1,1 for a shiny new Mac Pro cylinder running Mavericks 10.9.5. I have paired it with an LG 27" IPS display. The reason I am using the LG is because I was frustrated that Apple pays absolutely no attention to the pleas of their pro users for a non-reflective display.
And now I find that the type in the menu bars and panels is so small that it literally causes me eyestrain - and that I can't increase the type size. I am older (62), but I still need to use my Mac to survive. Unfortunately, though, it appears that Apple designers have again ignored the needs of their pro users - in this case, older ones.
I have been a graphic designer and a producer of technical and marketing publications for over 35 years, and I appreciate good-looking design - but the real measure of design is usability. Even great-looking design must be user friendly.
So now I am wondering if Apple interface designers are amateurs, or if they just don't give a @#$% about their users.
Did I miss it? Is their a way to increase type size in menu bars, etc.?

Did I miss it?
Yes.
System preferences > Displays > Resolution ...
choose "Scaled" and pick an alternate resolution.
When you do this, text will be drawn as if your screen were actually set to that revolution, but graphics will be drawn full-scale at the native resolution.
This feature was invented for Retina Displays, and has finally been made available for additional displays.

How do I open a PSA file type in Photoshop Elements 12

A file with a .PSA extension is most probably a catalog file from an older version of Elements (up to PSE5). To be able to use it with a newer version (including PSE12), you'll have to convert the catalog to the new format. In the organizer, open the 'File' menu, select the catalog manager (shift Ctrl C) and click the convert button, browse to the .psa file. Your catalog will be converted to the new format.

> i have 500+ fonts
Take out 250 fonts. See if the problem goes away. If it does, then you know the bad font is in them. Load the other fonts back in small batches (10-12) and test after each one.
If the first 250 fonts does not solve the problem, take out most of the other 250 ... leave only the basic fonts that came with the system. Then load the others in 10-12 at a time, testing after each.
Free fonts are not always free. Sometimes you have to spend a lot of time to make sure they are good fonts.

• CS5 Bridge Tools\Photoshop Menu Options aren't working ...

The CS5 Bridge Tools\Photoshop Menu Options that contain the Image Processing / Photomerge / HDR Pro features that open images from Bridge into Photoshop isn't working ... has this happened to anyone else? Have you any ideas how to fix this?
I've cleared cache, windows temp files, and moved the majority of my files to my NAS drive, so the laptop (Window 8 64-bit) is fine ... or so it seems!

Did you have to uninstall everything and reinstall 2014? CC 2014 was installed automatically. My program files show Ps CC and Ps CC 2014. The automatic installation of 2014 is what caused the problem.

My LinkedIn page text and information is extremely small type -- similar to the web page size that you would see on a blackberry before you zoom into the page.
The page width is also significantly reduced.
Other Firefix pages are normal size. It is just LinkedIn that is this way.'''bold text'''

Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems: View > Zoom > Reset (Ctrl+0 (zero); Cmd+0 on Mac)

When opening a file of any type in Photoshop (CS4), the windows will not appear. Photoshop will open and I can see the layers on the right but the document window will not come up no matter what I try. I try closing down everything, double-clicking a layer, opening multiple windows, etc.. Any thoughts?

Can you post a screenshot of your entire Photoshop screen with a file loaded in and the layers panel showing?

• Photoshop menu changes when video is applied.

This is encore CS6
I have been trying to figure this out for a while and can't seem to. I have a photoshop menu consisting of a white background with text and a couple images. I created a video to apply to the menu.
On its own, the menu is fine, but when I link it to the video, the menu gets thin black bars on the edges and the video seems to show through a sliver at the bottom. This totally boggles me because I noticed the video peaking through behind the menu, so I cropped the video in PP, re-exported it and it re-appears in Encore as no-cropped and showing thru at the bottom again. Anyways, the main issue probably has something to do with the Photoshop menu not being as big as the video file in dimension or having a different pixel aspect ratio. Though I played around with the PARs in Photoshop to no avail.
I'd appreciate the help.
Thanks,
Tim

Stan,
That information may very well help me. I don't believe I ever used a layer other than the one called "background". But thats good to know.
I created a solution to the black edges and sliver of video at the bottom. I created a menu from within Encore (the "Rose Menu HD" menu), clicked on the "edit menu in photoshop" and simply modified that rose menu in photoshop to look like it needed to (like my other menus). This way I was gauranteed that the basics of the menu would be right when it came to size and par.
The jittering issue is still there. But I did narrow it down to being a problem with the video background. I know this because I created two of the same menus on a test DVD, one with a video background (which ended up jittering) and one without a video background. The one without a video did not jitter at all.
Thanks.
Neil,
what do I do after saving a TIFF image from the video?
Open Photoshop & from the "File/New" dialogue create a DVD menu (there is a section for this called - from memory - "film & TV" although this may vary depending on version) in the style you want (NTSC Widescreen - not Square Pixel version) and this gets you a base with guides.
NOw get the paint bucket out & make the background black.
Open your TIFF file, and drag the image from the "layers" tab into the DVD menu template.
If it is too large, move it until you can see a corner & poress CTRL/T and turn the imported still into a smart object.
Hold down the SHIFT key & drag the top left corner down to the bottom right, and when you run out of space stop dragging & slide the image back up to the top left again.
Repeat until it fits onto your background & then select the usual pointer tool & select "apply transformation".
That is now your background sorted.
When you say "jitter", I suspect you mean flicker, as Jitter is caused by bad clocking & is a very different thing.
Check field orders - are you using HD to DVD? If so be very careful with field order issues. If the video is Progressive you should be okay but if it is compressed MPEG-2 Transport Streams or similar it will almost certainly be Upper Field First whereas the transcode for DVD will probably be Lower Field First.

Driver Version: 8.710.0.0
The most important thing I see is that your video card does not have the required minimum VRAM of 512 MB to run 3D features. There's no software workaround for this - you need to consider getting a better replacement video card in order to use the 3D features.
Note the system requirements here:
Photoshop CC system requirements
Note also that the Radeon HD 4000 series is not included in the list of tested video cards here:
Photoshop CC and CC 2014 GPU FAQ
If you buy a new video card you will likely get a fairly current video driver with it. Even so, you should take the opportunity after the new hardware is installed to check the web site of the maker of the card for their latest driver.
Beyond the above.
You have not updated your Photoshop to the latest version (which would be 14.2.1 for Photoshop CC, or 2014.0 for Photoshop CC 2014). Once you get a new video card you should consider updating Photoshop CC to the latest version.
Good luck.
