Smaller PDFs? Adobe X - Using TIFF or PNG files to create PDFs

I received a PDF - 73 pages, black and white - original file size is 2240KB (2MB). They wanted me to clean it up - so I save as either a TIFF or a PNG at 150 DPI, run each image through a batch process to darken them up (grayscale, soften, adjust curves - using Corel Paintshop Pro - Sorry Adobe), then recombine as a new PDF. No matter what file type/size I use (TIFF or PNG) or even if I select a smaller output size in the combine PDF it balloons to a 11-12 MB file. I can optimize it but then I think it takes all the images and JPGs them and they get all blotchy. Print to PDF was even larger. The only file that did not balloon up was when I recombine the original TIFFs saved from the original PDF. Any tips on what to do to make a smaller file size? Also I will take any other tips on cleaning up PDF quality - the other one we sometimes use is to print and rescan using a setting with higher contrast, but I like manipulating the electronic files better. Well, yes, that's a terrible way to do it. If it can be done at all. And it would make no difference if "Adobe Photoshop" appeared instead of "Corel whatsisname".
PDF files are generally vector. Rasterising it will lose detail, searchability, quality, and much else.
If they are actually scanned bitmaps you might be able to clean them up using Photoshop as an image editor helper from within Acrobat.
But really, cleanup should take place before making the PDF.

There is much Acrobat can do once the PDF create created.
Go to Print Menu and save as Postscript file then drop on Acrobat.

Also I can create a pdf from the MS Word and it is using the Adobe 9. So one would think that's good. No it isn't when you need to combine different files to one big PDF document. Any suggetions? Yes, I’m saying that I can in WORD use “Save As ADOBE pdf” but cannot in ADOBE create a pdf file from a WORD (.doc or .docx) document. While I can from other MS Office apps like Excel and PowerPoint.
I understand I can use “work around” and save doc in WORD as pdf then compile all files needed (xml, ppt, pdf) in the ADOBE v9. to one big pdf document. But that is not the point of this post.

Adobe Standard 9.1.0 crashes when attempting create .pdf from scanner

Adobe Standard 9.1.0 crashes when attempting "create .pdf from scanner" from a Kyocera Mita KM-2550 using the twain driver. The error encountered is 0xc0000005 at address 0x0000000002d78e70. I have downloaded and installed the latest updates. This is happening on two new PCs with the same configuration. Is anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions?

Spent quite a while on this one.. My problem was related to twain drivers which reside in c:\windows\twain_32. I'm running windows 7 64-bit. First it's usually possible to scan in windows 7 maybe vista and from adobe without even using twain (using WIA). So try renaming the twain_32 folder to _twain_32 and see what happens... If that stops the crashing look at the contents of the twain folder. I had a Dell folder for some printer I wasn't even using. That was causing the crash. I removed the dell folder and renamed the twain folder back to twain_32. Now everything works as designed.

When your files are exported to MS Office files or converted to PDF files the resultant files are stored at Acrobat.com(https://files.acrobat.com).

PDF Adobe Cheque using Payment Medium Workbench- MICR, Page overflow issues

We developed a PDF Adobe form for CHEQUE assigned using Payment Medium Workbench CHECK format.
The issues I am facing are
1. MICR symbols(in transit, BSB...) not printing however the numerals 0 to 9 is printing in MICR font. (installed MICR font in ADS to design the form)
2. The option of DO NOT VOID CHECKS for overflow/test prints is not available in PMW. As I thought of using prenumbered stationary because of MICR font issues, where I need to void the cheque if it overflows to the next page. Getting the form output is not an issue, however PAYR is not updated with void details. By default, PMW is not voiding cheques for overflow in the cheque register.
3. Is there any option to assign PDF Cheque form by using RFFOUS_C payment medium program.
Please let me know your comments if you have come across any of these issues.

Countless .png files after converting pdf to dwg

After converting a .pdf file to a .dwg file using the export feature in adobe illustrator, I find that as many as 500 .png files come with the newly made .dwg after the conversion is complete. My question is, why do all these pictures come with the .dwg file and what would I have to change, settings wise, to no longer have to delete all of those photos? (i.e. how to export ONLY the .dwg file) I thank you all in advance for you help.

We can't know. We have no idea what the file looks like, how it was created in the first place or even what version of AI you use. And not to state the obvious: You are mistaken if you think that CAD-generated PDFs or DWGs only contain vectors, so for all intents and purposes this could be totally normal within the bounds of the format and how the file was originally generated.

Thanks to you both for the ideas. Peter at SONiVOX technical support has been trying to help solve this also. He just sent me an email with an idea that solved the issue!
He suggested I change the length of the SF2 file names to abbreviated names - as the ones included were long (see above in OP).
These samples sound great in the EXS ... really very nice - and dry enough to be very usable in a variety of scenarios I am thinking. I will try their horns next.
And Sonivox technical support is great if anyone is thinking about trying them out. Fast and approachable. They go above and beyond the support we are used to with some third party companies.

Using external reference png files

Hello everyone!
I've been requested to create a flash project in which all images are external references.
Images (mostly png) are created and can be modified anytime by artists, fla files and actionscript are created by developers. When opening a fla file, images should be automatically updated with the latest ones on the server and be visible in the fla file.
Technical requirements are as follow : Actionscript 2.0 and Flash player 9 max.
I tried to use the Loader component, it seems to be what I want (with Autoload function enabled), but unfortunately ActionScript 2.0 component doesn't allow png files, and doesn't work anymore when embedded inside a movieclip or a button (image became totally invisible).
A simpler solution should be to automatically run the "Update" button on every image in the library but I don't think Flash to be able to do such a thing...
Do you know another way to achieve this? I didn't find any documentation...

PDF - Printing in OSX 10.5.4 Can't create PDF/X-3 document

This random error is not really causing me some trouble! - If anyone has information as to how to fix this, please let me know.
When I select print to PDF/X in the OS X drop down menu, everything works fine until I get an ALERT: "Couldn't create PDF/x-3 document. "
I use PDF/X all the time as it's best for printing magazine ads that I have to design for my company.
This feature used to work fine on my Mac. - Nothing has changed to cause this.

After downloading the latest upgrade of Adobe, I can no longer open files that are PDF's. Why do I keep getting error 0.104?

Since October 23rd, after downloading the recent upgrade for Adobe Reader, I continually keep getting error code 0.104 whenever I try to open a file that is in PDF format. No matter if I'm using Internet Explorer or Chrome. Huge waste of time! I have restored the Adobe to previous upgrade of September 2014, which was working fine. I have restarted the computer several times since I restored to prior version with no luck at all.

This is the message i keep getting when I try and open my PDF files that are on my desktop. I run a Macbook Pro. I checked for updates on system and adobe all say unto date?

Strip classes actually used in a jar file to create a smaller jar file?

I am creating a applet using java3d and the jar files add up to over 4meg ( j3dcore.jar j3dutils.jar vecmath.jar). Is there a way you can strip out only the classes your applet uses and create a smaller jar file so that the download isn't as big? Currently takes a long while for the applet to start because it downloads the Java 3D library in its entirety.

Most likely those classes that you use also use other classes that you don't use ...
