Smallest music type

I have a 2GB ipod nano (second generation), which is supposed to hold up to 500 songs. I figure I should be able to fit at least 300, because I have a few songs that are longer than 4 minutes, but it is full after 200. I took all my files off and lyrics but that didn't help. I was wondering if maybe the file type of music taken off my CD's were larger than songs gotten from other sources. Could someone tell me what the smallest file type is, and how to convert my songs into that format?
ipod nano 2nd generation   Windows XP

It all depends on the bit rate at which you ripped the CDs. You can determine this by displaying the bit rate in one of the columns in your iTunes window.
Select View>View Options and check the "Bit Rate" box.
If your songs are on average about 4 minutes long, and the bit rate is higher than 128kbps, then you probably won't be able to fit 500 songs on the nano.
The higher the bit rate, the more space each song file takes up.

  • Smallest File Type (available on iTunes)

I was just wondering what is the smallest file type that is available on iTunes?
    Thanks for all your help!!!

I use 32kbps sometimes for audiobooks. It's fine, if you use mono.
But yes, "smallest file type" doesn't make any sense. All audio file types produce equal sizes, if they are at the same bitrates.

  • Calling all Musical Types

Hello Everyone, I have a burning question here. Can anyone with a fair bit of music recording experience tell me whether the Mac Mini is fast and robust enough to handle multi track recording projects? From the little info i could find it seems that the RPM speed of the hard drive as opposed to say an Imac is not really up to snuff. I would greatly appreciate hearing from folks on this issue. so fa i am opposed to buying a new Imac because of the overly bright displays.
    thanxx a bunch,
    david

Actually, I would say if you planning on extending or adding features then its probably better to create a new article. If you want to expound or clarify the code of the article, then edit it.

Oh, I would not edit yours. I just saw there were options to comment and was thinking of that. But I think if I do anything myself I would just do a new submittal.
I actually have something different about printing with the print preview that would be better since it is different.
I was just thinking of asking you how you label the grids as that is hard, to have the code figure it out. I have a routine but I figured you had a better one. Long story, don't need to get into it now.

  • I have the mac laptop ibook g4,and i wanted to know what music downloader can i download to get free music besides having to use itunes?

I have the ibook g4 laptop! what music downloader can i download to get free music?,so i want have to use itunes.

Given the OS X versions last supported by the old PowerPC based G4/G5 computers, there are a few players that work with music sites for OS X 10.4.11 or OS X 10.5.8. I have not researched these, and many of the web sites that promise a free player or access to free music offer 'adware' laden questionable products, no matter what OS X version a Mac could run.
For just music, the Radio player in the iTunes application can give you several choices of music types, to include fairly recent songs. This will use bandwidth and there likely is no native way in the computer to capture the audio; and without a legal source, a question arises concerning illegal filesharing and the like, which is not a topic friendly to these discussions.
However there some great music channels in the Radio portion of iTunes player that do not require the store to listen to them; these are streamed from servers and you may be able to locate other streaminsg sources and add them to the iTunes Radio player.
There were some shareware or limited use utilities that could record any sounds in your Mac, including beeps, clicks and keyboard sounds. And any noises from web pages, etc. And save them. But some time has passed since I had anything like that. It was like a built-in recorder, and with a Mac microphone, even more so.
However anything software involves the limitations of your computer hardware's upper limit in OS X version. And be wary of sites with several download links that say free or download, since softonic genieo and others can install adware and other hard to remove ailment prone background software in your mac along with their promised product; and their 'uninstaller' also will add hard to remove background stuff in your mac. So does mackeeper and cleanmypc kinds of stuff. Avoid installing these along with hoped-for great promises.
Sorry to not be of much help, however anything that may
contribute to illegal file sharing is a void issue here...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • A specific site thats dedicated towards storing LABEL AND MUSIC information

I know this is totally off the subject but i figure producers & music designers might know the answer to this one. i've been in seek of a website that dedicates its search engines into storing record label & music information similar to http://uk.imdb.com.
For example say you would like to look up the label info for song
Kelly Osbourne - Song title . (this site would have all information etc etc)
I've tried using yhoo & google but sometimes they don't come up with the right answerers.
    Any suggestions would be great.
music type is mostly dance & some hiphop.

allmusic.com has a database for music related credits. It does not provide direct contact information for labels. You will need one of the A&R directories for that.

  • Music App Very Buggy Latley

Is anyone else experiencing really buggy performance when listening to music?  Beginning last month music via iTunes match has been stopping, skipping, not playing, and putting huge gaps between songs. I have tried reinitializing match, re-syncing, backing up, wiping and restoring the phone.  Nothing works.  Until last month the music app was 100% perfect.  I listen to music daily and daily now I get this very frustrating behavior.

Many iterations and syncs later, here's my best guess about the problem:
Over the past week, I've played with a few iterations of
changing what is synced to the pad--previously the setting was 'sync
    entire library' for music.
I added back all genres, without any playlists, and it was snappy.  I
added back playlists, a handful at a time, and it was snappy until I
added back my 'all music playlist'--a smart playlist for all music
(type music, exclude a few non-music genres).  That list is almost 6000
items, and it immediately slowed performance when added back.  The
really odd thing?  I made a test smart playlist consisting of a random
selection of items from that playlist, but limiting the number of
items, thinking that perhaps iTunes just didn't cope well with such a
large playlist.  And...it didn't gum up the works with 1000 items, 5000
items, or the entire playlist (no limit by number of items).
So the problem seemed to be my smart playlist of 'all music minus
    spoken word genres etc'.  Weird.
Playing a little more, trying to figure out what was the problem,
viewing the list from several different angles:   that playlist included some radio station
streams--odd that they're not more uniformly separated from the
music--so when I deleted those from the playlist, and then clicked back
to 'sync entire library', it's snappy still.
Best guess, the playlist with radio streams was problematic, even
without ever being played on the pad.

  • Updated ipod with no music-now music gone! Help!

I put my 1 year old 20g iPod into my brand new eMac, and iTunes wouldnt automatically update songs. The "update iPod" was clicked, and ALL THE SONGS went from my ipod. Now I cant find them/recover them, etc. Help!

Bummer. iPods are designed to download from a computer. It asked you if that's what you wanted to do. If you said yes, it downloaded an empty library to your full ipod, erasing everything.
To see if they are really gone, mount your iPod in Disk Mode. Open the Terminal App and type "cd[space]" - then drag the iPod icon from the desktop to the terminal window.
    Type: ls -la
You will get a listing of the iPod directory.
Double click on the directory "iPod_Control" and copy ([command] C).
Type: "cd[space]" and then Paste - [command] P [Note: that way is faster for me than typing "cd iPod_Control"]
    Hit return.
    Type: ls -la
    Type "cd Music"
    Type: ls -la
At this point, you will want to be lookig at a lot of Directories: F00, F01, F02, etc - that would be a good thing. That means your music is on your iPod and you didn't really tell iTunes to overwrite your Music Directory with a new empty Library.
If your Music Directory is empty - sorry - I hope you have your files on a different computer somewhere. If not, then drag out the CDs - they were legal copies, right?

  • Can anyone suggest any Royalty Free music programs like Digital Juice?

We use Digital Juice here at the office for music, graphics and Stock Footage, but I think I've used pretty much all of the "good" music tracks they have and was wondering if there are any other packages like Digital Juice out there that other people use.
I'm basically just looking for something simple, where I don't have to create my own music, but that I can quickly sample the songs; like Juice lets you do.
    Thanks.

As recommended above, SmartSound has two ways to use their music with most NLE's, including Premiere Pro. First, there is a free Premiere plug-in to access and use the music from within Premiere, Project Panel>New>Smartsound (once you install the plug-in). Or, you can do so much more with SonicFire Pro, but it is a standalone app. Marvelous how you can change the same piece of music with the Strata and BackStage (now being discontinued) series.
Right now, they are having a sale on selected music disks. Go to www.smartsound.com and take a look. I *think* that they might have a few more sales over the next few weeks.
I'm not sure that it's still going on, but SonicFire (not the full version) was also free with the purchase of any of the Strata Series disks. One can then upgrade to the full version.
Basically, there are/were four levels of music:
BackStage: (about the same as Strata Series, but greater bit-depth and sampling-rate, IIRC) - works beautifully in SFP.
    Strata Series: multi-level music @ 48KHz 16-bit - works beautifully in SFP.
Regular disks: non-multi-level @ 22KHz & 44.1KHz - works in SFP, but does not support Mood Mapping (see the tutorial on their site)
Compilations: non-multi-level @ 22KHz, and fewer variations than the regular disks. These are relatively inexpensive, but hard to locate on the site. There are/were some broad-ranging collections, so different ways to purchase these.
Download: not a music type, per se, but one can purchase individual cuts from many of the SmartSound disks. Make sure that you do download all previews from SmartSound, so you can demo everything they offer.
I will make that a third!

  • Where's my music folders??

I went on my pc this pm to listen to some music ..went into 'My music' but only some of my music folders where there ,How do I find my lost folders so I can play when on pc but ALL my music is still on my pod..Hope all this makes sence..Thanks if you can help..Rgds..Paul.

Use Explorer to search your computer for the files. Ask it to search for music, type in a song or album that you know is missing, then click search.
If Explorer finds it, chances are that's where the other missing music is.
    Check your recycle bin also.

  • How do you rename voice memos in iTunes?

I'm trying to rename my voice memos in my iPod via iTunes, but when I sync renamed voice memos back to my iPod, it doesn't not transfer the name.  It works if I name voice memos using my iPod and transferring it into iTunes, but not the other way around.  I have so many though, I would love to be able to do all the lableing in iTunes.  Is there a way to make it work the way I want it to?
Also, I read in another thread that I can organize my files if I make it into a music type file instead of a voice memo... but the thing is I don't want them to be mixed in with my song library.  I want them to stay in their own separate place.
If someone could help me out that would be great.  Thanks!

Hi, heymelody :  I have the same question asked above and i would like to know your secret way to lable my Voice Memos on my iPod Touch, and hopefully also so can see same description lables on my iTunes on my Mac computer.
    Thanks.

  • Automation vs. separated channel mixing?

I have a mixing question I've been dying to ask.
When it comes to mixing, a friend of mine swears by automation.
His technique is to put all lead vocals (or any similar sort, so he would put verse 1 & 2 and bridge lead on one channel) on one single channel and automate the level of that channel up and down according to the part of the song and obviously the volume he wants from the vocal part. He has left me with the impression that "That's how everyone does it".
I on the other hand have never bothered with automation when I mix a song (speaking primarily of vocal channels) unless I really have to. I simply just use more separate channels even if it is the lead vocal. So for example if it's verse 1 there are three parts of the verse that I want in different volumes, I just put all three on different channels in logic and copy the COMPRESSION, EQ setting and bus sends on each. So in the end I usually end up with between 5 or 20 audio channels just lead. I can then also obviously set EQ and COMP and whatever else I wanna do on each channel individually as the need arrises.
This to me is way faster because while mixing the entire song I can quickly get to the channel that needs adjustment and change the volume according to what I hear.
Mixing with Automation in the described scenario by my friend is just clumsy to me and harder.
Please let me in on your preferred way of mixing.... with automation and similar to the way described that my friend does it or do most of you also separate audio parts in to various channels as the needs arrises?
Of course I am always willing to learn.
    Thanks.

I mostly use similar approaches to the very well described methods in Bill's response - except that first, I spend a lot of time (where necessary) to tweak levels within the vocal tracks in the sample editor. In there, I'll first remove pops, thumps, noises etc. I'll then change gain on individual phrases and sometimes even words or parts of words. I don't use compressors to replace riding a fader or automation.
Then, once my tracks are cleaned up, I'll often use two compressors - one dealing with undesirable remaining peaks, and one dealing with RMS levels, but mostly for the sound it gives me because of the choice of compressor, not gain control. All of this apples to other instruments too - my goal is always to get the raw tracks as close to 'right' as possible before applying anything - which goes back to the recording stage, obviously.
As I mix OTB often, automation I use is mostly to push-pull in fairly coarse increments. Using the same 'parallel' compression routing, but not actually using compression, I might apply affects to another bus, so I'm generally mixing the affected vocal track with the untreated vocal track, and sometimes swapping them for more extreme effects. As I'm often OTB at this stage I don't have a lot of options as I use the creaky old (now obsolete) Uptown automation system - or none at all on certain tracks. Somehow there's a magic that happens when there are human hands on faders during a mix, and the mix becomes another performance.
Of course, this applies mostly to the music type with which I work - roughly 80% audio, 20% virtual instruments, so everyone's techniques will be different.

  • HT1351 Whether or not I sync items on iTunes to my ipod, I cannot eject the ipod because a message keeps coming up and saying that my ipod cannot be ejected because it contains files that are being used by another application. How do I fix this?

I just got an ipod classic 7th generation a couple days ago and I'm having a heck of a time with it. My latest problem is that with media on iTunes, I cannot eject the ipod because it says that it cannot be ejected because it contains files that are being used by another application. What application is this, and what do I do about it?

    Hi newipoduser,
    Here are some possible solutions:
Do you use musicmatch jukebox on your computer? If you do, you have to go into task manager on windows and end process mim.exe. It interferes with disconnecting ext devices
    Empty your "trash/recycle bin."
If that doesn't work, try quitting all your programs, especially music-type programs, basically things that look for mp3's etc.
if that doesn't work, "log off" then "log on" and that should refresh/purge your OS system.
Finally, you can restart your computer.
    Hope one of these helps!
    Cheers,

    Hello EVERYBODY
I have a table called sound with the following attributes. in the music attribute i have stored some messages in the different language like hindi, english etc. i want to concatinate all hindi messages and store in the another table with only one attribute of type LONG RAW.and this attribute is attached with the sound item.
when i click the play button of sound item the all the messages recorded in hindi will play one by one automatically. for that i'm doing the following.
i have written the following when button pressed trigger which will concatinate all the messages of any selected language from the sound table, and store in another table called temp.
and then sound will be played from the temp table.
    declare
         tmp sound.music%type;
         temp1 sound.music%type;
         item_id ITEM;
    cursor c1

    THANKS IN ADVANCE.

You can achieve this in many different ways, one is
    1. Create another VO based on the EO which is based on the dest table.
    2. At save, copy the contents of the source VO into the dest VO (see copy routine in dev guide).
    3. commiting the transaction will push the data into the dest table on which the dest VO is based.
I understand that if we attach VO object instance to region/page, we only can pull and put data in to only one table.
if by table you mean a DB table, then no, you can have a VO based on multiple EOs which will do DMLs accordingly. Thanks

  • BEWARE....Sound No Longer Works Since 2.2 Update

....not sure what the heck is going on, but, since upgrading to v 2.2 tonight, my speaker no longer works. No music, no movies....I hope this lil sucka rings when I get a phone call. THAT would be really f 'd. I've checked my settings and everything looks fine. Any suggestions? Anyone else having this problem?

when I flick my silent switch on no sound comes from applications like iSleep or any other music type apps
This might be a new bug... Or it may be by design.
Also if silent switch is off and music is playing, once the screen timesout (mine set to 1 min) then the music again cuts off!!!
This has been reported on a number of threads, but it should not affect the iPod App that comes with the phone. Is that what you are seeing, or are these other app-store apps that are going silent.???
(Those app-store apps may need an update from their vendors according to one post).

This may happen due to incorrect registry value type for Recent,   in the following key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \  CurentVersion \ Explorer  \ User Shell Folders
Click Start, Run and type Regedit.exe
    Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \  CurentVersion \ Explorer  \ User Shell Folders
In the right-pane, double-click Recent and set its data to:
    %Userprofile%\Recent
Important: The Value type must be  of REG_EXPAND_SZ type. If it is of  REG_SZ type, delete the  value, and  then create a new value of the correct type.
    Close Regedit.exe and restart Windows.
It appears you've checked the registry and the Value types are OK.
Make sure the Recent value is properly set.
Let me know if that works.
