Smart BLur is grey out, why?

I am totally new to photoshop, and using cs5 now. I was following a youtube video about smoothing skin. Step by step...to do surface blur and then smart blur. But on the smart blur it was grey out. Couldn't do the smart blur. Can anyone explain why and hopefully help me enable this function?

I suppose.
You could do your blur to a duplicate doc that was converted to 8 bit and paste that layer back into your 16 bit doc. Or convert your 16 bit image to a smart object and then change the mode to 8 bit, embedding the original 16 bit layer for future use.
I'm not sure the disadvantages of moving to 8 bit for this specific picture. One thing would be to do any major color corrections first, to minimize the chance of posterization. You probably don't want to move to 8 bit if your image is in a wide color space like ProPhotoRGB.

Do you mean the "POP or IMAP" bullet is grayed out?
If this is the case, please open your registry editor and check if the following registry values exist and the value data is set to 1:
Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\Options
Name: DisableIMAP
Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\Options
Name: DisablePOP3
If this is the case, change the value data of the two values to 0 and then test the issue again.

"Edit Original" greyed out, why?

Hi,
I've placed some PSD files within an A3 project inside of Adobe Illustrator CS3 with some clipping masks applied. Some images need some PhotoShop treatment so I would like to invoke the "Edit Original" command in order to have the desired image open up in PhotoShop for editing (like smart objects) but "Edit Original" is "greyed out" Even when the clipping mask relationship is released the command / feature is still unavailable.
Is there a reason why the "Edit Original" command is unavailable?

Import command on PSE-13 on Mac greyed out - why?

I recently installed an upgrade from PSE-11 to PSE-13 on my Mac running OS10.9.5 and the Import command under the File pull down menu is greyed out preventing me from inputting images from my scanner.

Hi, I have just upgraded from PSE11 to 13 and like many many people I find the Import / Export menu item is greyed out so I can no longer Import from my scanner which was fine in PSE11 - very frustrating !!! I have of course installed the plugin as advised but this does not work and yes at startup Twain building is apparently being carried out.
As stated in a previous Post one-on-one email support does not exist and Adobe just send a user in a loop of FAQs which never address the issue effectively. We appear to be suffering from Corporate Arrogance just like Apple. If one pays for support then maybe things, that should never have been a problem in the first place, get resolved. Why don't Adobe just remove the item from the menu and put us out of our misery.
I suppose it won't be long before Adobe will want monetise the use of Reader !!

Open iTunes option greyed out - why?

Hello - I am wondering why, when connecting my ipad to my mac, it opens up in iPhoto, and why the open iTunes option is greyed out on the summary page. Any ways to change this? Thanks!

You can do this while the iPad is connected to the Mac.
Launch iTunes on the Mac and from the menu at the top go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and see if the box at the bottom - prevent iPods, iPhones .... from syncing automatically is checked. If it is checked - uncheck it. Then go to the Summary Tab and you should be able to check - Open iTunes when this iPad is connected.
I think this may be something that you can try as well. Go to System Preferences on your Mac and click on Accounts. Open your user account - you will need the administrator password - go to Login Items and make sure that iTunes Helper is checked.
For the iPhoto issue - launch iPhoto and from the menu - iPhotos>Preferences>General>Connecting Camera Opens no application.

Auto Smart Fix is greyed out

I want to use Auto Smart Fix on a photo, but no matter what format I save the image in, the Auto Smart Fix and Adjust Smart Fix options are greyed out. The Auto Levels, Contrast, Lighting and Color options are available.

Also check to see if your image is 16 bit. You can't use auto smart fix on a 16 bit image. If that's the case go to Image>Mode and convert it to 8 bits.

HT203300 why is the devices section in the sync menu greyed out.Why is i tunes saying it cant see my i phone evn thoght it is connected

All of a sudden I tunes will not recognise either my I phone or I pad even thought they are connect to my pc.In the diagnostics section it says that there are no devices connected.What has happened? When I go to I tunes and try to press the sync button it is greyed out.

The TABS label on "Organize Bookmarks" dialog page is greyed out - Why is it not available to me ?

I want to apply tags to some or all of my web site addresses but the TAGS button on the Organize Bookmarks dilogue box is greyed out. I am using Firefox version 3.6.11 - Windows XP Home. I use avast! antivirus and a Windows firewall. What is preventing me from adding and using tags ?

Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cache (and Clear History)
If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

Median stack on cc is greyed out, why?

Smart Blur?

I'm trying to follow a tutorial (originally written for PhotoShop 6) where I need to apply a smart blur. When I saw that Smart Blur was grayed out, I converted the image to a smart object. Although I did see the smart object icon in the lower right of the layer thumbnail, Smart Blur was still grayed out. Opening an image as a smart object didn't solve the problem either. Obviously, I'm missing something and help would be appreciated.
I'm using CS4 on Windows XP.

Smart Blur only works on 8 bits/channel images. It's an older filter, having nothing to do with smart objects, and Adobe hasn't updated it to handle the deeper data we tend to work with nowadays, with our more powerful computers.
The Image - Mode menu is where you change that.

Why is 3D menu greyed out? Not ram or drivers..

When looking at other people who have a greyed out 3D menu, most all suggestions are either video ram or drivers.. but I have the latest driver and 2 GPUs with 1GB each of ram so I don't think it's any of that. Here are my stats
