Smart Card Reader - How to turn off logon screen from reboot or wake up

I just set up the bluetooth reader on my laptop and now when my laptop wakes up or on reboot the BB smart card reader is there to logon.   I rarely use my smart card reader on my laptop, i use it primarily on my phone.  I don't want to unistall it but I dont need to see that screen.  Any one know how to shut it off?

Most likely after installing it changed the PC log on type to the reader.
In control panel (assuming you have a windows product) you can change how a user logs on.

If you are ready to switch off, put to standby/sleep mode you laptop by pressing alt-F3-F4 or through menu, then I recommend you set in power options "when I close the lid-do nothing". In that case closing the lid will switch off the screen for downloading time.

I have not seen a unit with an on/off option for the card reader, but I have not seen every unit ever made.
    What is the product number?
Do you know where it was disabled?  By chance, was it disabled in device manager?
The card reader should be listed under disk drives based on the following image.  You might try uninstalling/reinstalling the card reader(s) from device manager as outlined half way down in this document.  The document is for Vista, but the steps are similar for Windows 7.
In device manager, a disabled device will have a down arrow icon on it.  If it does indicate it is disabled, right-clicking it and selecting enable should enable it.

  • How to turn off laptop screen....

when my PB is connected to my Plasma and how do I get the sound through my amp/speakers?
    Help appreciated.
    Cheers

Could you just put the brightness to the lowest setting, which will turn off the backlight?
As for sound, you can use a 1/8" mini plug to RCA cable to connect your PowerBook to your amp/speakers.
If you have the last PB models with optical audio output and your reciever has optical audio input, you could get a optical audio cable to connect your PB.

  • How to turn off preview pane from windows explorer

OS: windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit with latest security update

    FIX FOUND:
(Encountered same problem in Windows 8.1 Pro.  We have only Acrobat X, no Reader.)
Open Explorer.  Select View from the top menu.
On the ribbon, there should be a button "Preview Pane".
Toggle it on or off by pressing the button.  You can also use ALT+P.
Explorer will tell you that Preview is off, because the phrase "Select file to preview" disappears.

  • How to turn off on-screen notifications

I am running Yosemite and I have become annoyed with the Notifications that keep streaming in the upper right of the screen.  I used to just get software update notifications, but now I'm getting notices overtime and email comes in or someone likes a Facebook post.  They are quite distracting and unnecessary and I cannot find a place to turn them off or change preferences.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.  It was the banners that were bothersome.   I had looked in preferences and it wasn't making sense to me since I didn't know what banners and alerts meant.  And I still don't know what badge app icons or lock screens are.

maybe your power button is pushed down and won't allow it to turn on.

you should take your phone into the apple store.

  • How to turn off the Screen Saver in 10.4.8

I've been running tiger since 10.4.5 and do not want the OSX screen saver activated. Until now it has been sufficient to set screen saver to "never" in System preferences. After upgrading to 10.4.8, however, this does not prevent the screen saver from turning itself on.
I've done the usual magic, like repairing file permissions, without it helping much. Anybody have any suggestions?
    best,
    bob_tm

Hmmm... it did not work. I deleted the file and then the screen saver type and the time reverted to (I guess) default values. Then setting it to "never" did not fix the problem - the screen saver still came on within an hour (I would guess after default time - I was away for an hour).
Doing a "find" I saw that there was also such a file under "Safe Preferences" - should I delete that as well?
Any other pointers? Should I reboot as well?
    best,

  • How to configure Firefox to use cert from smart card reader on Sun Ray 3 Plus

I have a Sun Ray 3 Plus configured so the user needs a smart card to login (CAC card) and bring up a Java Desktop on the Sun Ray Server (Solaris 10 SPARC).
Now I am trying to get Firefox to read the certificate from the smart card reader but not sure how to go about doing that.
From searching online, it seems like I have to load a module in Firefox:
Edit -> Preferences -> Certificates -> Security Devices
But what file do I load? I'm assuming it is a file that's part of the SUNWut package?

  • How to install a smart card reader.

I am trying to install a smart card reader for work.  There are no prompts when connecting via USB or anything else.

  • Why does a smart card reader kill MacOS?

I need a smart card within a virtual machine on my Mac. The trouble is, every time I connect the reader, my MacOS stops working properly.
When the smart card reader is connected before the Mac is turned on, then I can't login: After entering the password, it hangs with the spinning color icon.
I can boot without the reader, though. If the reader is plugged in after boot, this happens:
Safari doesn't start up, all I see is the color spinner. Finder gets blocked as well while Safari is trying to start up (i.e. forever)
If I have a Terminal open, then I can "kill -9" the Safari process, which unblocks the Finder.
When I then try to shut down, it hangs with a white screen, and never properly finishes until power off.
How can I debug or solve this problem?
    Thanks! Martin

It's a very common device (Omnikey 3121), which should be compatible. Nevertheless, I installed drivers from the manufactor's site to see if they make any difference. On reboot after driver installation I got a kernel panic within the HID drivers. Very strange.
    Kernel Extensions in backtrace:
             com.apple.iokit.IOHIDFamily(2.0)[994495B5-FB34-3DB5-B47A-D2A732E52F33]@0xffffff 7f811c1000->0xffffff7f81232fff

After reboot it seems to work fine, but I'll have to check some more.

  • Dc7800 "smart card reader not present" during POST

    Hi,
I've got a dc7800 Small Form Factor system. It was working fine but after a reboot it won't start up normally anymore. The black POST screen appears, RAM testing starts to count up and then I see and error about "system options not set". After less than a second, a blue window in the middle of the screen displays the message "smart card authentication" and below that, "smart card reader not present".
From a bit of reading it seems like a BIOS problem but I can't figure out how to really reset the CMOS and get things working again. I've tried removing the CMOS jumper and booting the system, removing the power cord and CMOS battery for 10 minutes, and have tried putting a BIOS .bin file on a FAT32 USB key in an attempt to use the BIOS recovery option, none of which has worked.
Is there a way to do one of the following:
    - force the CMOS defaults to reset and remove the configuration that requires the smart card authentication?
    - force a BIOS recovery, with a key combination or by using a different jumper or jumpers on the motherboard?
I see various other jumpers and pads on the motherboard like "ROM RCVRY" and the E15 Boot Block Recovery Header but scant information about how these might be used to solve the problem.
It seems to me that the hardware is fine as it powers up and displays the POST screen. It's like a BIOS setting has been reset to require a smart card, even though there isn't one, nor even a smart card reader, in the system.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    TIA,
    JS

    Hi:
After doing some research on the message, I came across this post.
I guess your PC has a smart card optional system.
    http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Compaq-Elite-Pro/DC7800-smart-card-athentication/m-p/10691...
Now, if you can get into the BIOS menus, if you look at the top of page 8, you will see what you need to do in order to enable/disable the smart card reader message.
    http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01162201/c01162201.pdf
Whatever the problem is, it is a security setting issue, and clearing the CMOS or updating the BIOS will not have any effect on that setting.
Unfortunately, I have no experience with the security settings or protect tools software on HP business PC's.
I have a dc7800 (and only use HP business desktops and notebooks), so I am very familiar with all the other aspects of the PC but that one.
You may want to post your issue on the HP business support forum, business PC section.  Hopefully someone there has experience with turning this feature on or off.

RichS hasn't replied to a post in 3 years. Although someone else may.
Good luck, and please post back if you find the solution to the problem.
