Smart collection rules do not include smart collection itself

All my pictures are eventually set into collections. I also use smart collections to make sure I can retrieve items like MALLARD in a smart collection called DUCKS. So I created yet another smart collection NOT IN COLLECTIONS to make sure I did not oversee including recently imported pictures into a (set of) collection(s).
Unfortunately, the rules for smart collection do not include the smart collection ITSELF, so  though MALLARD is in a (smart) collection by default, it also appears in NOT IN COLLECTIONS, which sort of defeat the purpose of assigning a picture to a collection automatically.
Any idea if this is a user error, a bug or should it be a request for a future improvement?

Not an error, neither a bug. It's by design.
You could post a feature request in the FR forum or the official Adobe wishlist.

  • Smart collection shows as not in a collection

I am hoping my 100% answered questions are kept up with this one :O)
I am trying to do a collection that contains all images that are not in a collection (including smart collections).
    1) Is this possible?
I ask because logic says that if the search finds images then puts them in this collection, that wil mean that they are no longer without a collection, a bit of a continuous circle!
    2) I have tried to do the above with what I thought was sucess, 6000 of my 11,000 images were found which I initially thought to be correct. However on thorough investigation I have found that images in SMART collections are classed as not being in a collection. I proved this by right clicking the image and selecting "Show in Collection" and every smart collection image always returns the greyed out "Not in a collection".
By the way, the search I set up was:
    Collection.....Doesn't contain......a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h,i,j,k,l,m,n,o,p,q,r,s,t,u,v,w,x,y,z
    Any ideas?

    Thanks for the answers.
Its a shame LR seems to class smart collections as more of a query or a search rather than an  "automatic" collection. It would be nice to filter to show all photos NOT in any type of collection, which would make deleting images easier (for me anyway).
An example was I have some poor quality photos which I deleted (I don't want to  bloat my catalog!) only to find out later that they belonged to a smart collection which had a particular significance which I wanted to keep. I had right clicked on them to see if they were in a collection, which showed as none.
This means that in my type of workflow I can sadly not use smart collections and all of their advantages.
    Hopefully in LR 3.0?

  • What does the "collection" rule do in a Smart Collection?

It does not work as I expect, based on what the name suggests (I can't base my expectations based on any Adobe documentation since I can find none).
What I want to do is create a smart collection that includes all the photos in another (smart) collection.
    Is this possible?

I have many smart collections used for publishing which are replicated - Publish to Flickr, Smugmug, my iPad and my TV.
For me, it would be very useful to have the concept of a smart collection which mirrored and tracked the definition of another.
ideally for more flexibity it would be good if one smart collection could "inherit" and follow the properties of another as well as potentially add more refinement logic.
Just my view and the way I work.

  • Need to generate a report for Event collection rules created in SCOM

    Hi All,
Can any one let me know where can i get a report of the Event based collection rules created in SCOM (For default and custom made).
I used the below report but it gives the collection rules which are performance counter based not event collection based.
Reporting -> Microsoft Generic report library ->Performance detail (Gives performance based Collection rule but not event based). Can any one help.

    what is your objects setting?
Suppose, I want to display the Windows Restart Event which is collected by "collection rule for windows Restarted Events" . from the Rules pane in Authoring workpsace, "collection rule for windows Restarted Events" is target on windows
Server Operating system. As a result, my "custom event" report setting as
    1) Objects: objects instance of windows Operating system
    2) rules filter by rules name contains "windows Restarted Events"

  • Querying SCCM for Collection rules by Powershell

I am trying to get a list of collections rules applied to a particular collection, in sccm. I have psbase property of a collectionrules which contains the names of the collectionrules. How do I access those collections, using powershell?

A collection can have multiple query-based membership rules.  Each of those rules can have multiple queries.  CSVs are 2 dimensional, and don't support this type of nesting.  You could simply take the first query from the first rule, but depending
on how the collections are defined, there could be missing information.
XML on the other hand, can support this type of nesting.
I haven't tested this (use at your own risk), but this could be the general idea, if you wanted to move queries from one system to another, or simply back them up.
#Backup Collection Data from source computer
    Get-CMDeviceCollection | Export-Clixml 'c:\OldComputer\AllCollections.xml'
#Restore to target computer (This sets the limiting collection to "All Systems" and also assumes there is only one membership rule)
    $allCollections = Import-Clixml 'c:\NewComputer\AllCollections.xml'
    $allCollections | ? {$_.isbuiltin -eq $false} | % {
    New-CMDeviceCollection -LimitingCollectionId SMS00001 -Name $_.Name
    Add-CMDeviceCollectionQueryMembershipRule -CollectionName $_.Name -RuleName $_.CollectionRules.RuleName -QueryExpression $_.CollectionRules.QueryExpression

  • Business Rule Export Not Complete

I have a situation where I am exporting business rules and the codeblock of a few business rules are not included. If I look at the XML, the business rule is there, the name, description, ect, but the node that should have the actual code is either empty or not there. Has anybody experienced this before? We have cycled the services to clean the cache. There aren't any special characters that I would expect to break the xml. We don't get any errors during the export. Anybody ever had this issue?

    Try the following
    Option 1
EAS console provide the functionality to migrate (rather than export to file) a repository from a source environment to a target environment by direct RDBMS connection.
Refer to page 97 of the HBR administrator guide:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10530_01/doc/epm.931/hbradmin.pdf
    Option 2
Increase the heap size of the EAS console via the "admincon.lax" file found under Hyperion\AnalyticAdministrationServices\console\bin
The parameter to change is: "-Xmx256M" in the "LAX.NL.JAVA.LAUNCHER.MAIN.METHOD" section of the file.
You can increase it to a maximum of "-Xmx1024M"
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers

  • Transport Rule "Disclaimer" not updating...

I did a simple edit earlier today and added a single line of text to the Transport Rule "Disclaimer" and it refuses to update.  I tried restarting the Hub Transport service but that didn't solve the issue.
I've sent test emails to both internal and external addresses with the same results.  I've also attempted to disable the rule just to see if i could get any changes to apply in a timely manner however I'm still getting the disclaimer on emails.
    Any thoughts?

    Hi,
From your description, you can use Get-TransportRule command or EMC->Organization Configuration->Hub Transport->Transport
Rules to get the state, scope and priority of this transport rule:
    1.
Whether the rule is enabled or disabled:   Only enabled rules are applied. When a rule is disabled, the rule does not lose its priority. However, the rule
is not included in the evaluation process.
    2.
Message scope:   The first check performed by rules agents is whether a message falls within the scope of the agent. Transport rules aren't applied to all
    types of messages.
    3.
Priority:   For messages that fall within the scope of the rules agent, the agent starts processing rules based on rule priority in ascending order. Rules
that have lower priority are applied first. Transport rule priority values range from 0 to n-1, where n is the total number of transport rules. Only enabled rules are applied, regardless of priority. You can change the priority of rules by using the Exchange
Management Console or the Exchange Management Shell
If the issue is not solved, you can disable this transport rule and create a new transport rule to check the result.
Hope it helps. If the issue still occurs, please let us know.

I am having the same problem, and so far beyond restarting the transport service there have been no useful answers, including this one.
The above response doesn't even relate to the question and none of your points apply when dealing with a simple text edit to an existing rule that was already working.
If the Transport rule function is so unstable as to require it be rebuilt for every text edit, then it simply does not function as designed.

  • What would the Smart Collection criteria be to isolate files in a folder but NOT in a collection?

What would the Smart Collection criteria be to isolate files in a folder but NOT in a collection?

    or else FAR more simply,
though in practice, the difficulty may lie with how fuzzily or precisely the search text used, applies.
    QUESTION
I'd be very curious to know, does anyone know how to search on a section of a full folder path rather than on the individual parts of that?
    My folders are structured by LR at import, as (e.g.) 2014 / 01 / 27 for 27th Jan 2014.
So if I wanted to use a Smart Collection to search for (among other things) images in July 2013, I can search multiply on includes all of "2013" and "07" but that also throws up in my case, images which were taken on the 7th day of other months during 2013. I could search on a date range, though that's a little more laborious, or else do what I otherwise prefer, which is by keywords and other attributes plus (possibly) just year.
If I could search on folder path includes the string "2013/07" this would work fine. But I haven't found a syntax that does that (yet, assuming it is possible at all).

  • Ehancement: ability to compound smart Collection rules

Need a collection that is: Not rated & No stars & No color -OR- Not rated & No stars & Yellow.
Defaulting the "Match" dropdown to "all"  and adding  a new "+-" AND/OR dropdown would make the above logic possible. This would also make possible many more selection criteria.
I am aware that sometimes you can reverse all the criteria and achive the same result, but not always, and then it becomes difficult to make slight changes without redoing everything.

You can create nested boolean ANDs and ORs by holding down the Alt key and clicking the "#" button on the right (click on the image below to see at full resolution):
Clearly not an obvious user-interface design...

  • How can I display images that are not included in any collection?

How can I display images that are not included in any collection (some filter or smart collection)? A smart collection with parameters "Collection - contains - empty field" does not work. Lightroom 5.

Thank you! Good idea! I ordered letters of the alphabet (space separated), and it works.

  • BPM Smart Playlist Rules not Syncing

I noticed the following behavior. I created 3 smart playlists, all 3 containing many rules including some to match specific BPM (Beats Per Minute) rules. Only the Smart Playlist names appear on my iPhone 5s, none of the 3 lists is populated.
However, when I remove the rules referring to BPM and leave the other rules unchanged, all 3 playlists appear populated on my iPhone.
Has this issue with BPM been reported previously?

  • Not include digital booklets in smart playlists?

I don't know if there's any way to do this, but I have smart playlists created, which are based on certain genres, or only include certain artists - but they always include the digital booklets from these artists, and I can't just get rid of the digital booklets because it's a smart playlist, and it won't let me. Is there any way that I can choose to not include digital booklets in these smart playlists, besides deleting the artist from the booklet, in the actual library?

Add the criterion "Kind is not PDF document"

  • Why are complex Smart Mailbox rules not available?

I wonder if this is a technical limitation in OSX Mail, or simply that Apple can't find a good way to present the UI.
Here are some rules I can create in OSX Mail for filtering or for smart mailboxes:
ALL rule: Find mails which are **in the last 31 days** AND **from [email protected]**
ANY rule: Find mails in the last month **from [email protected]** OR **from [email protected]**
Here's the rule I'd like to create, but can't:
COMPLEX rule: Find mails which are **in the last 31 days** AND ( **from [email protected]** OR **from [email protected]** )
The third rule there combines both ALL and ANY rules. I have yet to see a mail application which supports this form of query in smart mailboxes, yet it seems like a perfectly normal use case (eg, find emails from team members A, B, or C, and which also have quality X).
Smart mailboxes would be much more helpful if they were that little bit smarter.

if you are not into editing smart mailbox plists by hand you can esily accomplish this by creating multiple smart mailboxes and combining them into further smart mailboxes. say, make smart mailboxes 1 and 2 using a bunch of AND conditions and a smart mailbox 3 with the condition that a message is in smart mailbox 1 OR in smart mailbox 2. that said, it's really not clear why this has not been implemented into GUI directly. it's been like this for a very long time. that mac os x hint you found is 4 years old.

  • Smart Settings do not include complete Keywords List

When I create a select my Aperture Library, then create a Smart Album, the Smart Setting pop up does not display a complete set of keywords to chose from.
In my case I'm trying to create an album with a subset of family members. Even though the family members show up in the Keywords HUD, they are not available for selection in the Smart Settings HUD.
I have my Keywords organized by People, Places, Activities with sub folders (or whatever they're called) below those so the structure is 3 levels deep. Keywords from all three levels show up in the Smart Settings HUD, but not ALL keywords.
Has anyone else seen this or know of a fix?

The keywords that show up in the Smart Album HUD are only those keywords that are included in one or more of the images included in your search. In other words Keywords that you have created in the Keyword HUD will only show up in the Smart Album search HUD if they have been used.
Try to add one of the missing keywords to a single image and see if it does show up in the search HUD.
    Hope this explanation makes sense.

  • Generic CSV log collection Rule not pulling all records

    Hi,
I created a Generic csv log collection rule with details as follows:
    Target: Windows Computer
    Directory: D:\async
    Pattern: Async*.csv
    Seperator: ,
    Expression: Params/Param[1]-matches wildcard- *
Problem is the Csv file has around 50000 records whereas in the eventview of that rule it only shows 16853 records. I also tried with following SQL query but same results.
    select * from event.vEvent
    where EventNumber=0
(Since this is the only csv rule I've created & I dont have any records with event 0 hence using eventnumber 0)
I've verified first column of csv file (i.e Param[1]) doesn't contains blank records. Tried deleting & recreating Rules + CSV files but no luck.
    Please help.

    Hi,
As we can see all csv files that start with "Async" under D:\async foler will be collected.
How many this kind of file exist under the directory?
Would you please creat another simple Async.csv file and remove the original file to another folderto do a test.
In addition, also hope the below article can be helpful:
