Smart Cover Folding Issue

I noticed that when I fold my Smart Cover on my iPad 3 backwards, it goes further than it used to. I checked the swivels on the left side of the cover and it all looks normal. Does anyone have this issue?

You have to tap the screen just once to make the clock appear..  Try tapping just below the battery indicator.

  • HT204158 how do you fold an iPad smart cover to prop up the iPad?

I have seen the iPad smart cover folded so that you can prop up the iPad to watch a movie.  How do you do that?

You basically just "roll up" the cover. See the video included on this page:

  • Smart cover hinge becoming unglued. Heat issue?

Wondering if anyone else has seen this. Black leather smart cover. No issues until transferred to new iPad. Lower left hinge wrap has become a bit loose. No evidence of tearing, just looks to be separating.

Similar issue here. The glue on the hinge wrap on my black leather smart cover is breaking down.  It started on one corner but is gradually creeping down to more and more of the hinge wrap.
I don't use any kind of lotion, but my daughter and wife use hand lotion and sunscreen, and have used my iPad on occasion.  So that very well could be what caused it.  But it should be simple to glue back into place.

  • Ipad smart cover auto unlock clock and status bar issue after ios7

Im using an ipad mini with apples smart cover (auto lock/unlock enabled), it used to show the lockscreen(before swipe) whenever I opened the case, but after ios7,whenever I open the case, its already swiped and I have tu enter my code.
the bug is that you have no clock in the status bar on the code screen. whichs forces you to enter your code each time you open the cover just for checking the time! or swiping back to the lockscreen.
    any fixes?

I know.. it was better in iOS 6..
To make the clock (time) appear without entering the code simply Tap the Screen once.
    For example:
While holding the ipad in the landscape position peel the cover open just enough to get your thumb under the cover and tap just below the battery indicator.

  • Smart Cover and iPad 3

I have my new iPad and I went to the Apple Store to get a couple accessorys and I was facinated by the Smart Cover. So I bought it got home and it worked fine. The Sales person it would fit just as on an iPad 2. So I never owning an iPad 2 thought would work fine. But I noticed an issue. when folded to the back of the device it doesnt stay attached well and becomes uncomfortable to hold. Is this normal or something due to the new iPad?

ya it doesnt, the smarcover is good for folding the smartcover for 3 orientations (landscape in "movie mode" and "type mode", portrait), it is not designed to lay flat at the back, so if you add pressure the smartcover will come off.
This is mainly because the magnets where it hatch into is at the back.

  • Why does the coating of my iPad 3 is faded by the magnetic connection of the smart cover?

I bought the smart cover with my iPad 3 on July. Recently, I realized that the magnectic stripe of the smart cover that are used to attched to the iPad has faded some of the silver coating!!! It's normal or something is going wrong? should I vist Apple Store to solve it?

    Hello!
I can recommend you do the following:
1/ Quit Mail completely via the Mail-menu
2/ Open the Finder and find the go-menu near the top left corner of your computer display (not the Finder-window) Choose go to folder.
Copy-paste the following line into the field that appears, including the ~ :
    ~/library/mail/v2/maildata/
3/ Move all files that start with "envelope" and "ExternalUpdate" to the trash. Don't empty the trash in case we need to restore these files (which is not likely, but still)
4/ Restart OS X. Open Mail. Now it will re-import your existing mail. Is your issue solved after this?

  • How to use the Smart Cover for FaceTime and Videos?

    Hi,
I bought a new iPad recently with a Smart Cover. I find the Smart Cover very good for typing, at the low angle. The angle is very nice, it feels very comfortable and it allows fast typing. But then what is called the FaceTime/Video angle seems way too steep for me, like 80 degrees. I need to be like 3 meters away, at least, to watch a movie correctly or to be captured by the FaceTime camera. I'm rather tall but still, I don't really get it. I thought for the first couple of days that I was folding the cover in a wrong way but it seems not.
Am I the only one to experience this issue? Or is there another way of folding the cover to get a correct angle? I haven't tried another Smart Cover but I would doubt that mine is faulty. But if it is how the Smart Cover is designed, I'm surprised that Apple went with that, I mean, I can't see the use of this angle, if you need to be so far away from the iPad. I actually bought one (and the Smart Cover) to use it as a support for books/tutorials when I'm coding on my Mac, and I'm finding that I can't find a place for the iPad with the cover on my desk because it ends up to be too steep anywhere I place it...

My experience is the same as yours (and everyone else's, I suppose.)
Other than the various ways you can fold it, Smart Cover is not adjustable.
This link shows what Smart Cover can do.
You have already found the best workaround for Smart Cover: reposition yourself, the iPad, or both so the camera view shows what you want in the picture.
You decide the best location for your iPad while you capture video.  Because iPad connects wirelessly, you need not worry about dangling cables.

  • Smart Cover doesn't put iPad into Sleep mode in Unlock position after iOS 8.3 update

Prior to the iOS 8.3 update, closing my Smart Cover would put my iPad into Sleep mode when in the Unlock position.  Since the update, this function no longer works in the Unlock position.  In the Lock position, I hear the click and the iPad does go into Sleep mode.  Since I am the only one using my iPad, I don't need it locked when at home.  Has anyone else experienced this problem?

    hi guys. i'm back.
i solved my problem. i refer my iphone 5 to a local distributor. a repairman checked my iphone and i described my problem. he checked my battery. it was fine! then after an hour excavation around hardware solution he told me that the charging kit crashed because of heavy mobility usage!
yes. i did not covered my phone with any cover. the cpu pressure by ios update crashed the kit! now my phone get back after the kit changed and work finally. i restored my phone to ios 8.2 now.
i'm going to buy new iphone. but i'm really confused if such this issue really happened for iphone 6 too!!!!!
    i'm totally disappointed .

  • What is the warranty on an iPad Smart Cover purchased in India?

I purchased a smart cover along with the new iPad in India from an Apple Authorized reseller. I was wondering what is the warranty offered for genuine Apple accessories purchased from an Apple Authorized reseller in India, in particular the Smart Cover. There should be a simple "Yes or No" answer to this question.
According to Apple, they offer a one year warranty for all Apple accessories. http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/products/accessory-english.html
And yet, I was denied warranty coverage by the AASP and Service Center stating that Smart Covers are not covered under this warranty.
    To extend the question:
    1) Is the Apple Smart Cover NOT an Apple Accessory?
    2) If it is an Apple Accessory, then is it not subject to the same warranties granted for all Apple Accessories?
    3) If there is an undisputed understanding that a smart cover is flawed, should the smart cover be replaced within one year?

King is nearly absolutely right. When you restore your iPhone in iTunes (Restore iPhone), new software is downloaded and installed on your iPad. However, if you "Erase All Content and Settings," this simply does what it says. It removes whatever you have on your iPad and wipes it allowing you to start fresh.
It's important to note that this does not install new software on your iPad. If you are having trouble with your iPad and are attempting to restore to troubleshoot or resolve an issue, it's always best to restore from iTunes for new software.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
In regards to your device not being recognized by iTunes, King hit the money. The article he linked will absolutely resolve that issue providing the issue isn't with your computer's hardware or software and isn't related to Apple's products in any way.

  • Smart Cover Functioning IOS7 to IOS8

I'm a 30+ year software professional, and use Windows, Linux, MacOS, and IOS on a daily basis.
I bought my wife a 64 GB iPad Air2 (I'll call it iPad4) with wifi/wireless for Christmas.  I bought her an iPad2 many years ago (16GB, no wireless), and she uses it like gangbusters.  However, she absolutely hates changes.  I backed up the iPad2, which runs the last IOS7 version before the IOS8 release, on iTunes and restored it to the iPad4.  The email restore didn't do what I expected, but she got over it.
The issue is the closing of the smart cover.  It has really changed between IOS7 and IOS8, and took a turn for the worse.  In IOS7, you can close it, hear the click, and it goes off.  If you opened it in a little bit it would come one without having to enter the pin.  If you left it closed for some time, you would have to reenter the pin.  This is the way we like it to work.
The IOS8 does not appear to have that level of control.  If you want the iPad to turn off when you close the cover, if you open it immediately you have to enter the pin.  If you don't have the lock with pin enabled, when you close the cover the iPad is still on draining the battery.  There is no combo of settings that allows you to close the cover to turn it off and not have to enter the pin if you reopen it in a short time.
Looking into this issue on the forums, I see other people have the same complaint.  It appears that Apple combined 2 settings into 1 in IOS8 so you no longer have the same amount of control.
I would like to see them restore the settings to how the cover closing/locking worked as it did in IOS7.

Your iPad Air 2 has Touch ID. This is the feature which allows defining fingerprints and using your fingers to unlock the iPad by touching the Home button.
The relevant settings are all in Settings > Touch ID & Passcode - USE TOUCHID FOR:
    - iPad Unlock
    - Apple Pay
    - iTunes & App Stores
if you turn iPad Unlock ON here then the only choice for Require Passcode is Immediately, however, if you turn iPad Unlock OFF the choices for Require Passcode will be Immediately, After 1 minute, After 5 minutes, After 15 minutes, etc. This is what you are used to.
The change in behavior of the iOS is due to the presence of Touch ID not the level number.
No one here knows why Apple made this change, but, perhaps, their thinking was that, since one can unlock the screen simply by touching the Home Button with one or another finger, everyone would, of course, want the more secure Require Passcode=Immediately.
I tend to agree with you that this assumption on their part is unjustified. You can give Apple feedback at http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

  • Smart Cover Not Working after update 8.1.2

My smart cover seemed to have died. But it happened after the update 8.1.2 it seems. It is an Apple Smart Cover. It will not turn off the ipad anymore. It's model MD533LL/A iPad (Gen 1). I guess they wear out.

Weird things going on here.  I have 3 iPad minis.  All are first generation and two of them are running 8.1.2.  On one of these the smart cover is no longer functional and the settings item "lock/unlock" is missing.  On another running 8.1.2 the item remains in settings and the cover works.  On the third I have not upgraded so it's still running 8.1.1 - the cover functions and the setting for "lock/unlock" is there.  It seems one of these lost the setting during the upgrade, one did not, and I have not tried it yet on the third.  I need this feature so hopefully there will be some communication from Apple on this issue.

  • IPad smart cover loses coating Apple does't replace

Hi, I have the iPad 3 with the original smart cover since 4month. I called Apple Hotline because of issues with the coating on the cover. The aluminum part of the cover looks crappy because it is loosing the coaing.
You can see the pictures... The hotline said, about one month ago, I should bring it to an apple store. So I did today, but the guy there just said. No warranty, so I should buy a new one. This made me very upset and angry!!!
I actually want to complain about this guy, how unfriendly and unpolite he was. Till today I thought Apple is concerned about customer satisfaction, maybe not anymore.
So waht would be your suggestions, how should I deal with this situation?
    thx. dominik

There's something going on here you're not telling us. That looks like it came into contact with something corrosive, not normal wear. The covers are not covered by any warranty. Live with it or buy a new one.

  • I just got an iPad mini Smart Cover and it keeps locking my iPad

I Folded the Smart Cover to the back and sometimes it just looks itself like that. Why?

Obviously it shouldn't do this.  Either the Smart Cover is defective - or your iPad is too sensitive.   See last comment in the following similar discussion - Apple replaced the person's iPad.
My iPad Air smart cover is causing my screen to turn off when I flip it so that it lies across the back of my iPad

  • Not So Smart Cover

A couple days ago I won a 32g 3rd gen iPad at a work party. Today, I bought a gray smart CASE (not smart COVER). However, the lock/unlock function doesn't work when i open and close the cover of the case. Any suggestions?

Hello, if the setting in Settings> General> iPad Cover Lock/Unlock is turned On already and it still won't lock, check to see if the issue occurs on other devices.
If the cover works perfectly with other devices, try a Hard Reset of your device, if it's still not working, try restoring.
If after the restore the issue continues, take it to an Apple Retail Store (or call Apple) and organise service for the device
Alternatively, if the Cover won't work on other devices, have the cover replaced at the apple store
