Smart Cover Leaves Streaks

Hello all just purchased two I pad 2 with the smart covers. After using it a few days when I turn it off I see the 3 lines on the screens from the smart cover. I tried to wipe them off with no luck. I have noticed this is a problem when I search on the web. I don't wan't this to be happening. Anyone else notice this and where you able to get it off?

I have the same problem-
I just fold the smart cover into a triangle and use one of the sides to wipe the screen down. Its simple and easier then having to carry arounf extra clothes ect.

  • Smart Cover leaves 3 bars on my iPad screen

    Hello,
My new Smart Cover is leaving 3 bars on my iPad screen. I tried cleaning it, it appears to wipe right off. What should I do?

The bars are from where the material of the cover touches the screen and any oil on it. This is normal. just keep your screen clean.
    Ok.

  • Smart cover leaving marks in iPad screen

I have the new iPad and purchased a leather smart cover which I am disappointed with due to the fact that rather than he microfiber cloth side of the cover cleaning the screen it actually marks the screen exactly where it folds.
I am not the only person I know who experiences this and would like to know if anyone has had any response from apple regarding this or knows of a solution to this problem.
    Many thanks

I see the horizontal lines at the fold places of my leather smart cover too. I think though that the cover is just rearranging the dirt on the screen. I periodically clean my screen and the inside of the cover and this markedly decreases the problem. Other than that I ignore it.

  • When using smart cover can you leave it charging?

Just got my first ipad2 and smart cover. Was wondering the proper way to fully charge it in the wall and whether it needs to be stopped when fully charged and if the smart cover can be on in the closed position?
    Thanks

    I have enabled AirPrint in Mac OS X;
    http://netputing.com/2010/11/11/airprint-hacktivator/
My printer is connected to my Mac and share in Sys Prefs/Sharing. I have paired my iPad with the Mac through Bluetooth and I print from my iPad wirelessly through the Mac to the printer.

  • Smart Cover and Dock (iPad 2)

For those that have the iPad 2 and using the Smart Cover in conjunction with the Dock.
I currently have a Smart Cover for my iPad 2 and have a Dock on order.
    Question:
Can I leave the Smart Cover on the iPad2 while docking it using the Dock for iPad2?
    Thanks

I have no doubt it'll work with the Smart Cover on THE FRONT..
The question is ; does it work when you open the cover, and put it on the back of the iPad?
I'd like to keep the cover on (the backside) and see the screen WHILE I charge it in the new iPad2 docking...
    Is this possible?
    Thanks

  • How to Clean Poly Smart Cover?

My new (since last Tuesday) orange smart cover has a few tiny spots on the front where it touches the back of the ipad when it is open. The comes from my putting the ipad down on various counters/tables. It's not bad now, but I can imagine what it'll be like in six months. Anyone found anything to clean the poly material? I've tried damp cloth by itself and with a drop of liquid soap, neither of which leave more spots but they don't remove the ones that are there.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
There's a Quilt Soap by Orvus (comes in a liquid or a paste) that I've used to get oils out of fabric BUT it works best with soaking. It has no harmful chemicals and you wouldn't have anything to lose by putting a drop or two in 8 oz of water and dabbing.
Question: When you have the cover open, isn't it the gray inside that's touching the back of the iPad, not the orange outside?
(Speaking just for myself, I just accept spots as part of the process and tell myself it adds character!)

  • Blue Smart Cover - Some grey on the inside, others are blue??

    Hi,
A friend of mine bought a new Smart Cover for her iPad. She got the BLUE polyurethane version.
On the inside, her's is blue also. But i've noticed other people's (esp' on YouTube) are grey on the inside.
It's not a fake because it was bought from Apple.
Does anyone know why this is?
    Thanks.

Personally? If I were buying a case I'd look into a portfolio case. All around protection with the convenience of a smart cover...and there are quite a few out there that aren't very bulky at all.
I have a portfolio case, and I also have a Zagg Folio and I don't think I could ever keep my device with just a smart cover. It gets tossed in my bag too much to leave it that unprotected.

  • Smart cover will damage the ipad mini

Just a heads up. The smart cover for the ipad mini has magnets in the spine of the cover that attaches it to the mini and will wear through the material with normal use and will dig into the ipad mini leaving large deep gouges in it. Apple Care considers this damage as "accidental damage", like dropping it, and will charge you to replace it. So If you have a smart cover for your ipad mini, I suggest you stop using it before it damages the device. I've been using it for 6 months which isn't very long, and you don't really expect that a case you bought from apple to protect your device will damage your device just by using it, until you remove the case and see that the damage has already been done.

I use a different "smart cover" than you, but try this: Go to Settings/General/Lock-Unlock. Make sure the feature is enabled by toggling it green. If you've already enabled, toggle the feature off, then on (green).

  • Smart Cover hinges rubbing metal residue off on iPad 2

Anyone seeing a problem with there Smart Cover rubbing against the iPad and leaving metal residue?
I have two Smart Covers and both exhibit a small wearing of the metal on the Smart Cover approximately where the two hinges meet the connecting rod that runs between them. It shows as slight dullness on the hinges. On the iPad you can see marks where those points rest against the metal of the iPad. So far, the metal "smudges wipe off the iPad but the finish on the hinges is permanently dulled.
Looking closely as the cover folds back I notice that those two points are closer to the surface of the ipad than the rest of the hinge.
    Thanks,
    West

All it really is is where metal is rubbing in the hinge itself and it is making a very fine metal powder which may air oxidize.  Look at the hinges on any door of your house and you will see the same thing.  The reason it is on the back of the iPad is that the magnets attract the metal powder.  It is not a defect with the iPad at all.  Other than wearing down the hinge component over time this would be normal as well.  If the hinge pin had used aluminum or something with less carbon content you would not see it at all.  The smart cover is great but the hinge does need a redesign.  I have actually done a couple of redesigns that works well.  I may publish them on instructables some time.  Expensive hobby though ;). I have reverse engineered three case/cover types.  That is what I always liked about Steve... Take something someone did not do well and make it better but make it your own!

  • Smart Cover PLUS a case or skin?

    Hey gang-
Ordering my iPad 2 tomorrow (yay!) and definitely think I'll go for the Smart Cover. I love its utility as both a cover and a stand. But as I travel a lot, do you think I will need a skin or case to protect the back as well? Has anybody announced any cases that will cover the iPad 2 with an attached Smart Cover?
    Thanks!

    Barbara-
Actually yes, that would be very cool! Something on the order of a clear protective shell. Looking at the Griffin Reveal case on my iPhone 3gs right now and thinking that would be perfect. And yet leave the front of the iPad as well as the Smart Cover attach points unobstructed. Perfect!

  • Smart Cover for iPad Air does not stay closed

The iPad Air Smart Cover is a different design to the previous versions of the Smart Cover, it has no metal spine on the left side and the magnets do not appear to be as strong as the previous versions. Presumably Apple has done this to reduce the production cost, and increase profits.
The result of this is that if one holds the iPad with the spine of the cover in the left had and the thumb on the first section of the cover and then tips the iPad over to the left the cover opens when the iPad is tipped past the vertical, towards the left side. This is made worse  when the iPad is fitted with a third party back protector case which fits over the front edge slightly.
This problem did not exist with the earlier iPads and their Smart Covers. We have an iPad 2 and iPad 3 both fitted out with Smart Covers and third party back covers. Both of these can be tipped over completely, upside-down, while holding them (in the manner described above) and they do not open.
We tried our new iPad Air Smart cover on other iPad Airs at the store (not Apple) and we also tried other Smart Covers on our iPad Air. They all had the same problem.
The only fix will be if Apple recognise the problem and improve the design of the Smart Cover
NOTE: We also tried the Smart Case and this had the same problem.
So, my questin is to Apple: When will I be able to exchange the Smart Cover for an updated version that does not have this problem?

I also have an iPad Air, and a genuine Apple Air Smart Cover. Cover stuck fine in the closed position (even if upside down) for several months. Cover also stuck to the right hand back of the iPad Air when open and folded back, even if upside down.
About a week ago, the right hand edge of the cover started being slightly repelled from the right hand edge iPad Air when closed. This left the iPad at risk of not actuating the on off switch, or at least being very sensitive to any movement.
The cover still stuck to the back of the iPad Air when open and folded back.
I believe Apple have magnets in the right hand edge of the cover, not just a passive strip of iron. If so, the polarity between back and front of the cover will be opposite. I believe Apple are somehow arranging the magnets in the right hand side of the iPad Air to change position depending on whether the cover is closed on the front, or open and folded to the back. I suspect Apple somehow allow the magnets in the iPad Air to pivot or move to provide a decent attraction both front and back regardless of cover polarity.
When I get hold of some magnetic viewing film I will check the magnet locations further.
My iPad Air went back to attracting the cover to both front and back a day or so ago. I had made no alterations. This correction happened after leaving the cover closed (and hovering mid air by a milimetre or two) overnight.
I believe the problem is in the iPad Air, not in the Smart Cover.

  • Scratches on iPad 2 from smart cover

I have ordered a smart cover that I should receive in a few days. I have read in a few places that the cover leaves scuff marks on the left side of the iPad. Has anyone used one and doesn't have scratches? Or should I expect and accept that the product will leave scratches?
    Thanks,
    Zach

An update on the Smart Cover rubbing against my iPad. After the second Smart Cover started to show signs of the metal being rubbed of its hinges I took the covers and iPad to the Apple Store. None of my friends have had any problems and I haven't seen any other reports like mine. So the Apple Store was awesome, the exchanged the iPad and both Smart Covers and now I can see the difference. It looks like the first iPad might have had some slight back case anomaly or the magnets might have been misaligned which caused the rubbing. The new iPad and Smart Covers aren't hitting each out so things look good.
Anyway, I think my iPad was a fluke (Apple Store hadn't seen any problems come in). I highly recommend the Smart Covers. I love mine and now that they attach correctly I am a very happy customer. Plus, Apple's customer support at the store was amazing as usual.
    Thanks

  • Smart Cover doesn't put iPad into Sleep mode in Unlock position after iOS 8.3 update

Prior to the iOS 8.3 update, closing my Smart Cover would put my iPad into Sleep mode when in the Unlock position.  Since the update, this function no longer works in the Unlock position.  In the Lock position, I hear the click and the iPad does go into Sleep mode.  Since I am the only one using my iPad, I don't need it locked when at home.  Has anyone else experienced this problem?

    hi guys. i'm back.
i solved my problem. i refer my iphone 5 to a local distributor. a repairman checked my iphone and i described my problem. he checked my battery. it was fine! then after an hour excavation around hardware solution he told me that the charging kit crashed because of heavy mobility usage!
yes. i did not covered my phone with any cover. the cpu pressure by ios update crashed the kit! now my phone get back after the kit changed and work finally. i restored my phone to ios 8.2 now.
i'm going to buy new iphone. but i'm really confused if such this issue really happened for iphone 6 too!!!!!
    i'm totally disappointed .

  • Is there a way to have my iPad Mini's Smart Cover open up to the lockscreen instead of unlocking it?

I'm using 32gb iPad mini 1st gen, which is running iOS 8.1.2. I have a Zagg Keyboard Folio Smart Cover.
My "lock/unlock" option in settings is on, and works just fine, but while I want my iPad to lock itself automatically I do not want it to UNlock—just turn the screen on upon opening the device.
I DO NOT want to use a passcode to do this.
I found a thread posted three months ago on Reddit (will link soon) which said this was possible with a "iPad cover unlock" toggle setting in "General," but I cannot find this option in my settings.
Does anyone have any ideas? It bothers me in the most insignificant manner possible, but I would like to change it if I can.
I fully appreciate any and all help! Thank you in advance!

You cannot set it to unlock only. It's both or nothing.

  • I am about to buy an iPad 3rd gen. Do I get a Smart Cover?

I was planning on buying a polyurethane Smart Cover at the same time as the iPad, and this would be the only protection I would have for it.
That being said, I own an iPhone 4S, and have never used a screen protector or case for it.  It goes in my pocket basically whenever I am not using it.  I have some light scratches on the back glass that you can see only in the right light, and nothing on the screen.
Based on that, would you say that this will be enough protection for me?  Also, for those of you who own an iPad and a Smart Cover, do you recommend the cover?  I have read on this forum from time to time that the Smart Cover can scratch the iPad where it hinges to it, and that sometimes the screen gets scratches from dirt that is being held there by the cover itself.
I am not really paranoid, but I don't want to be on this forum in 2 or 3 weeks asking what I can do about the scratches on the screen of my iPad.

The Smart Cover only protects the front screen. You'll get scratches on the back plus it provides no protection for a small drop.
I added a screen protector as it was cheap insurance protection.
For my iPad 2, I bought an Adesso case/keyboard model WKB-2000CD http://www.adesso.com/en/component/content/article/49-coming-soon/455-wkb-2000cd .html Works great & looks good. The keyboard is easier to use than Apple's on-screen keyboard. Do a Google search using the model number to get the best price. About the same price as Apple's covers & it covers the whole iPad. Although the new iPad  is slightly thicker, it should fit this case.
     Cheers, Tom
