  • HT201263 does the smart cover magnet strip affect the ipad screen by making colour lines appear on the screen when opened or unlocked by the cover

Does using the magnetic smart cover affect the ipad by causing stripes of interference lines over the screen, then when opening and shutting would revert to a normal home screen, But repeatedly does this lines on screen effect and then eventually the whole screen goes white!

No. It should not do that.

  • HT204158 Ipad 3 smart cover magnets no longer sticking

Smart cover is about 3 months old and lately the magnets have lost their oomph.... If i turn the device face down, the folding cover just flops open.
Is there a fix, besides replace?

I have the iPad Smart Case you are talking about and even when it was brand new, the magnets in the screen cover section never held the cover onto the screen when held upside-down. If yours held it in place in the past, you may have been lucky that it did so...I've read quite a bit of reviews (at Amazon and the Apple Store) and it seems that one common complaint is that the front cover does not stay closed magnetically when turned upside-down.
EDIT: I don't believe that the magnets embedded within the Smart Case cover were even meant to hold the cover closed, especially when held upside-down...seems the magnets are primarily meant to:
    1. Trigger the iPad to enter/exit Auto-Lock mode when closed/opened (if enabled on the iPad)
    2. Stick to themselves to hold the cover in the numerous folded postitions
Like I said previously, if they held the cover closed for you in the past, you were lucky that they did so.

  • Why do Magnet of the smart cover Weaken after usage?

I had 2 Poly Smart Cover, what i realise is that the Smart Cover Magnet both at the hinge and Flap will get weaken after usage. And also the Poly smart cover will no longer be able to function as a stand. Any other Ipad Smart Cover encounter this? Will Leather Smart Cover solve the problem?

Unfortunately no, a workaround would be not detaching the smart cover from the iPad now and then.

  • Ipad2 smart cover is  not smart !!!!!

my ipad 2 was scrached on the back from the smart  cover magnet, does apple cover that ?

I have always suspected that this could happen but I am always ultra careful if I need to reposition or remove/reattach the SmartCover.
I even keep the Ipad2 & SmartCover in a tightly fitting slip case when not in use, without scratching issues thus far.
So far I have no scratches but do have to remove a powdery black hinge residue occasionally.
Apple may be more sympathetic but I would put your issue down to fair wear and tear.

  • Will the smart cover damage the other side of the screen?

I notice that the smart cover magnetically attaches only on one side of the ipad. However, i on a number of occassions left the smart cover in a position where it made contact with the other side of the ipad where it doesnt magnetically attaches. When this happens, the screen blanks out for a moment, until i get the smart cover out of the way. Can someone enlighten me on does this blanking out of the ipad screen or having magnetic stuffs touching the ipad damage any parts of the ipad? Thank you so much for joining this discussion!

No, the minor magnetic interference of the cover will not damage the device. Rest easy

  • Does the magnetic smart cover affect my iPad mini performance? ( screen display, motherboard, software/hardware)

No, the magnet used there is too weak to affect the hardware of your tablet.

  • Clicking magnets inside of iPad Air after using Smart Cover for some time

I have read that many people experience clicking magnets inside of iPad Air after using Apple Smart Cover for some time.
I experienced the same thing and returned the device to the shop where i bought it, while still having the warranty.
They wrote me after 11 days of having my iPad that it is fixed and i can come for it, i was not yet there.
Please tell me, how can i realize that they warranty serviced my iPad?
I have read that many people get new device with same issue, and mine just got fixed somehow...
It is not Apple Store it is Apple Premium Reseller, was their service OK or they just did not wanted to give me new device?
How can i get to know they were acting correctly?
    Thanks for the answer

Everything is OK, they gave my whole new iPad Air

  • Does the iPad Air Smart Cover lose it's magnetism?

Weirdest thing happened last week.  I have an iPad Air 32GB Cellular since about the first month they were released.  I have been using a Poetic thin shell cover on the back and an Apple Smart Cover on the front since I purchased the Air.
Last week (around Wednesday) the magnets stopped working.  If I were to hold the iPad Air facing down, the Smart Cover would just dangle.  I even removed the back thin shell cover thinking it was interfering.  Same thing though, the cover just dangled.  It was this way for several days.  I even had to turn off the ability to sleep/wake the iPad using the cover because it would click on and off over and over again as I was carrying it. (Which to me would say the magnetism was not lost but became less, really weird.)
Today (Sunday) it just started working again.  How is that possible?  I can't find anything on the net saying this happens.  How can the Smart Cover just lose it's magnetism and get it back after about 5 days?
Thank you for any insight you can offer.

Mine actually seems to have become repelant.  I thought I had a weird crease but thats not the case.  When I lay the cover on a flat surface it lays flat.  When I put it on my iPad it lifts slightly.

  • Why does the coating of my iPad 3 is faded by the magnetic connection of the smart cover?

I bought the smart cover with my iPad 3 on July. Recently, I realized that the magnectic stripe of the smart cover that are used to attched to the iPad has faded some of the silver coating!!! It's normal or something is going wrong? should I vist Apple Store to solve it?

    Hello!
I can recommend you do the following:
1/ Quit Mail completely via the Mail-menu
2/ Open the Finder and find the go-menu near the top left corner of your computer display (not the Finder-window) Choose go to folder.
Copy-paste the following line into the field that appears, including the ~ :
    ~/library/mail/v2/maildata/
3/ Move all files that start with "envelope" and "ExternalUpdate" to the trash. Don't empty the trash in case we need to restore these files (which is not likely, but still)
4/ Restart OS X. Open Mail. Now it will re-import your existing mail. Is your issue solved after this?

  • Smart cover lock option not show in setting in new ipad

    hi
    i have a new ipad 64 wi-fi 4g and i used smart cover.
when i conected smart cover to new ipad, in setting>general not show smart lock.
    plese help me

Mine did not show up until I ran a kitchen magnet along the edge of the iPad. I heard a click and then when I went to Settings, the option was there. I had a cover that was SUPPOSED to work with the new iPad, but the magnet was in the wrong spot, apparently. I discovered the locationproblem by using the magnet trick............and in the process, managed to activate the smart cover option

  • IPad 2 Smart Cover and Airport Xray

Is there any ill effects when you send your ipad 2 with a smart cover (which contains magnets) through the airports Xray scanners?
Just curious since xray scanners use magnets to scan correct?

Mine has skated through several airport scanners with no bad effects.   A a matter of interest, while they still want you do put your laptop in a seperate bin, there is no problam putting a pad thru inside a briefcase or suitcase.  They seem to know what it looks like on the scanner, and i have not had to get it out at all.

  • Smart Cover and iPad 3

I have my new iPad and I went to the Apple Store to get a couple accessorys and I was facinated by the Smart Cover. So I bought it got home and it worked fine. The Sales person it would fit just as on an iPad 2. So I never owning an iPad 2 thought would work fine. But I noticed an issue. when folded to the back of the device it doesnt stay attached well and becomes uncomfortable to hold. Is this normal or something due to the new iPad?

ya it doesnt, the smarcover is good for folding the smartcover for 3 orientations (landscape in "movie mode" and "type mode", portrait), it is not designed to lay flat at the back, so if you add pressure the smartcover will come off.
This is mainly because the magnets where it hatch into is at the back.

  • No smart cover unlock option iPad 3?

I am looking in the "General" setting for my iPad 3 and there is no option for the Smart cover unlock feature? My sisters iPad 2, iOS 5.1, has the feature so why wouldn't the iPad 3 have it?

    NyVetteGuy wrote:
Its in General...there are three choices together..
First Auto lock, then Passcode Lock, then ipad cover Lock / Unlock
Oddly enough, I did not have that option until I ran a small magnet along the edge of the iPad. That activated the option in Settings........I didn'tt buy the Smart Cover, but bought a rooCase which was "supposed" to work the lock/unlock function. Sadly, the magnet in the case is just far enough "off" that it does not work. By using the small magnet, I not only activated the option, but was able to determine why the case didn't work. Like the case, just not happy that it doesn't work as advertised. Sellers should never have advertised "works with new iPad" until the iPad was actually out there for them to try it with, imho.

  • Smart cover interfearing with notification

I Have had my iPad 2 for some time now and I have a smart cover I am running iOS 5.0.1, Now I have my Notifications setup and when I have the smart cover closed and sitting on my desk, coffee table, etc. There is no alert of notifications but the moment I open the cover all the notifications that happened while the cover was closed come rushing in.
Now I purchased an iPad 3 which is running iOS 5.1 and I went a purchased the official Apple Smart cover with it and have already noticed that it is doing the same thing as the iPad 2.
I have gone through all the settings and made sure that everything is setup correctly I know the notifications work as when the smart cover is off on both of the iPad 2 & 3 they work perfectly everytime.
So! My questio is what could I be doing wrong is there something that I have missed or is this a common problem.
    Thanks in advance

Thank you for yoru response, SBerman.
The reason for this question is because of the weight and dimensional differences between the iPad 2 and the New iPad.
iPad 2 is 0.346 inches (8.8 mm) while the New iPad 0.37 inches (9.4 mm).
For Wi-Fi with iPad 2, it weighs 1.33 pounds (601 grams) against 1.44 pounds (652 grams) for the New iPad. iPad 2 WiFi + 3G weighs 1.35 pounds (613 grams) against 1.46 pounds (662 grams) for New iPad WiFi + Cellular.
Considering the magnets for the older covers were designed for lesser weight and thickness, there must be some usage implications and effect on wear. At least logically there must be one.
I've also been told that the newer Smart Covers (in the markets post May 2012) have a stronger linking and less incidences of unbonding once it is standing or when being held when in the triangular formation used for typing or FaceTime.
