Smart cover?, or st o o p i d cover?

oh right, first day sale ipad 2, made the line, buy my device, and, of course, the s. cover (smart, or sto  opid?) sinc i start using it, i realize my device is undercover on the back, i don't like that, but, what the ****, s. cover is nice, when the problem comes? it turns out that my device is the one of the "only few" that has problems on the screen, decolorations on the back of it, i run to the apple store, what's my surprise! i don't have warranty, my decice has a scratch 1mm x 2mm(milimeter) on the top, warranty is no good.
so, who's the blame? of cour mine, for trusting on apple and his advertising, and for running to the store to buy a product that is not 100% quality control, my device works perfectly, but it has a defect that i can't do nothing, carefull everybody on scratching a device on you back pack, and having smart cover,  you will no longer get warranty for a device with defects

1) I don't work for Apple.
2) I don't see how I "want to make you crazy" by saying that a scratch is different from a dent, and that as you were told by Apple user-caused abuse sufficient to cause a dent voids your warranty
3) A Smart Cover is not designed to provide protection for the entire iPad. That's why it's called a cover, not a case.
There is nothing defective about the iPad nor the Smart Cover. You damaged your iPad, apparently expecting the Smart Cover to do something for which is was not designed. As a result of the damage, your warranty is void.
That's all anyone can say on the subject.

  • Smart Cover doesn't put iPad into Sleep mode in Unlock position after iOS 8.3 update

Prior to the iOS 8.3 update, closing my Smart Cover would put my iPad into Sleep mode when in the Unlock position.  Since the update, this function no longer works in the Unlock position.  In the Lock position, I hear the click and the iPad does go into Sleep mode.  Since I am the only one using my iPad, I don't need it locked when at home.  Has anyone else experienced this problem?

    hi guys. i'm back.
i solved my problem. i refer my iphone 5 to a local distributor. a repairman checked my iphone and i described my problem. he checked my battery. it was fine! then after an hour excavation around hardware solution he told me that the charging kit crashed because of heavy mobility usage!
yes. i did not covered my phone with any cover. the cpu pressure by ios update crashed the kit! now my phone get back after the kit changed and work finally. i restored my phone to ios 8.2 now.
i'm going to buy new iphone. but i'm really confused if such this issue really happened for iphone 6 too!!!!!
    i'm totally disappointed .

  • Is there a way to have my iPad Mini's Smart Cover open up to the lockscreen instead of unlocking it?

I'm using 32gb iPad mini 1st gen, which is running iOS 8.1.2. I have a Zagg Keyboard Folio Smart Cover.
My "lock/unlock" option in settings is on, and works just fine, but while I want my iPad to lock itself automatically I do not want it to UNlock—just turn the screen on upon opening the device.
I DO NOT want to use a passcode to do this.
I found a thread posted three months ago on Reddit (will link soon) which said this was possible with a "iPad cover unlock" toggle setting in "General," but I cannot find this option in my settings.
Does anyone have any ideas? It bothers me in the most insignificant manner possible, but I would like to change it if I can.
I fully appreciate any and all help! Thank you in advance!

You cannot set it to unlock only. It's both or nothing.

  • I am about to buy an iPad 3rd gen. Do I get a Smart Cover?

I was planning on buying a polyurethane Smart Cover at the same time as the iPad, and this would be the only protection I would have for it.
That being said, I own an iPhone 4S, and have never used a screen protector or case for it.  It goes in my pocket basically whenever I am not using it.  I have some light scratches on the back glass that you can see only in the right light, and nothing on the screen.
Based on that, would you say that this will be enough protection for me?  Also, for those of you who own an iPad and a Smart Cover, do you recommend the cover?  I have read on this forum from time to time that the Smart Cover can scratch the iPad where it hinges to it, and that sometimes the screen gets scratches from dirt that is being held there by the cover itself.
I am not really paranoid, but I don't want to be on this forum in 2 or 3 weeks asking what I can do about the scratches on the screen of my iPad.

The Smart Cover only protects the front screen. You'll get scratches on the back plus it provides no protection for a small drop.
I added a screen protector as it was cheap insurance protection.
For my iPad 2, I bought an Adesso case/keyboard model WKB-2000CD http://www.adesso.com/en/component/content/article/49-coming-soon/455-wkb-2000cd .html Works great & looks good. The keyboard is easier to use than Apple's on-screen keyboard. Do a Google search using the model number to get the best price. About the same price as Apple's covers & it covers the whole iPad. Although the new iPad  is slightly thicker, it should fit this case.
     Cheers, Tom

Nor is it turning off without pressing the button. What is the meaning of this?what caused it to be this way? Is there someway that I could fix it?

Wait a sec did this just start?
You set up the smart cover function in settings (you did that, right?) so, if you did that and it's failed you make an appointment at your nearest Genius Bar now.

  • What is the warranty on an iPad Smart Cover purchased in India?

I purchased a smart cover along with the new iPad in India from an Apple Authorized reseller. I was wondering what is the warranty offered for genuine Apple accessories purchased from an Apple Authorized reseller in India, in particular the Smart Cover. There should be a simple "Yes or No" answer to this question.
According to Apple, they offer a one year warranty for all Apple accessories. http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/products/accessory-english.html
And yet, I was denied warranty coverage by the AASP and Service Center stating that Smart Covers are not covered under this warranty.
    To extend the question:
    1) Is the Apple Smart Cover NOT an Apple Accessory?
    2) If it is an Apple Accessory, then is it not subject to the same warranties granted for all Apple Accessories?
    3) If there is an undisputed understanding that a smart cover is flawed, should the smart cover be replaced within one year?

King is nearly absolutely right. When you restore your iPhone in iTunes (Restore iPhone), new software is downloaded and installed on your iPad. However, if you "Erase All Content and Settings," this simply does what it says. It removes whatever you have on your iPad and wipes it allowing you to start fresh.
It's important to note that this does not install new software on your iPad. If you are having trouble with your iPad and are attempting to restore to troubleshoot or resolve an issue, it's always best to restore from iTunes for new software.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
In regards to your device not being recognized by iTunes, King hit the money. The article he linked will absolutely resolve that issue providing the issue isn't with your computer's hardware or software and isn't related to Apple's products in any way.

  • Hi, I'm currently browsing the web looking for a case that is compatible with the smart cover for the iPad 2. If anyone has any suggestions I would be glad to read all opinions! Thanks!

Hi, I'm currently browsing the web looking for a case that is compatible with the smart cover for the iPad 2. If anyone has any suggestions I would be glad to read all opinions! Thanks!

I love the Smart Cover. It fits the way I work and I love the instant on/off and the always available screen protection. I wouldn't use my iPad without it.
I got a Cover Buddy for the back, because I wanted the back to be less slippery when I'm using the iPad in the classroom, teaching. I picked this back cover because it's VERY lightweight, easy to get on or off and, protects the corners, has accurate cutouts for the ports, and (in the colors) has a rubberized surface:

I have a Built NY "hoody" slip on case with a hard internal shell that I use when I'm in the field and I can put the iPad with the Smart Cover and the Cover Buddy inside this . But for everyday use, the Smart Cover with the Cover Buddy is a terrific combination.

  • Does anyone has a problem with the screen of the new ipad? (there's a part of the screen which the color in it is "very" bright) and when I move the aluminium part of the smart cover when it's attached to the ipad the colors change!! Help!!!

I'd take it into my local APple store and have them look at it. There may be something wrong inside your device.

The setting for iPad cover lock/unlock is in settings > general for iPad 2.
The iPad 2 and new iPad if both are using iOS 5.x or later the setting exist in settings > general.
So, if you worked at an apple store I think you should have known that the setting exist.
You are right, a hard reset (force restart) should only be used if iOS device is unresponsive or apps crashing...etc.
But, a simple restart helps as well.

  • Smart Cover Functioning IOS7 to IOS8

I'm a 30+ year software professional, and use Windows, Linux, MacOS, and IOS on a daily basis.
I bought my wife a 64 GB iPad Air2 (I'll call it iPad4) with wifi/wireless for Christmas.  I bought her an iPad2 many years ago (16GB, no wireless), and she uses it like gangbusters.  However, she absolutely hates changes.  I backed up the iPad2, which runs the last IOS7 version before the IOS8 release, on iTunes and restored it to the iPad4.  The email restore didn't do what I expected, but she got over it.
The issue is the closing of the smart cover.  It has really changed between IOS7 and IOS8, and took a turn for the worse.  In IOS7, you can close it, hear the click, and it goes off.  If you opened it in a little bit it would come one without having to enter the pin.  If you left it closed for some time, you would have to reenter the pin.  This is the way we like it to work.
The IOS8 does not appear to have that level of control.  If you want the iPad to turn off when you close the cover, if you open it immediately you have to enter the pin.  If you don't have the lock with pin enabled, when you close the cover the iPad is still on draining the battery.  There is no combo of settings that allows you to close the cover to turn it off and not have to enter the pin if you reopen it in a short time.
Looking into this issue on the forums, I see other people have the same complaint.  It appears that Apple combined 2 settings into 1 in IOS8 so you no longer have the same amount of control.
I would like to see them restore the settings to how the cover closing/locking worked as it did in IOS7.

Your iPad Air 2 has Touch ID. This is the feature which allows defining fingerprints and using your fingers to unlock the iPad by touching the Home button.
The relevant settings are all in Settings > Touch ID & Passcode - USE TOUCHID FOR:
    - iPad Unlock
    - Apple Pay
    - iTunes & App Stores
if you turn iPad Unlock ON here then the only choice for Require Passcode is Immediately, however, if you turn iPad Unlock OFF the choices for Require Passcode will be Immediately, After 1 minute, After 5 minutes, After 15 minutes, etc. This is what you are used to.
The change in behavior of the iOS is due to the presence of Touch ID not the level number.
No one here knows why Apple made this change, but, perhaps, their thinking was that, since one can unlock the screen simply by touching the Home Button with one or another finger, everyone would, of course, want the more secure Require Passcode=Immediately.
I tend to agree with you that this assumption on their part is unjustified. You can give Apple feedback at http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

  • Smart cover not working properly with new iPad

My smart cover keeps turning my iPad on when the case is closed.  Anyone else have this problem?

Go to Settings > General > Lock / Unlock and turn this ON (Green).

  • Smart Cover Not Working after update 8.1.2

My smart cover seemed to have died. But it happened after the update 8.1.2 it seems. It is an Apple Smart Cover. It will not turn off the ipad anymore. It's model MD533LL/A iPad (Gen 1). I guess they wear out.

Weird things going on here.  I have 3 iPad minis.  All are first generation and two of them are running 8.1.2.  On one of these the smart cover is no longer functional and the settings item "lock/unlock" is missing.  On another running 8.1.2 the item remains in settings and the cover works.  On the third I have not upgraded so it's still running 8.1.1 - the cover functions and the setting for "lock/unlock" is there.  It seems one of these lost the setting during the upgrade, one did not, and I have not tried it yet on the third.  I need this feature so hopefully there will be some communication from Apple on this issue.

  • Smart cover not working properly after upgrade to iOS7

Since I upgraded my Ipad mini to iOS7 the smart cover stopped working as it was working before. Usually, when I closed the cover the ipad went to sleep and when I opened it the ipad woke up. Is it another problem of iOS7 ? Is there any solution?

Go to Settings > General > Lock / Unlock and turn this ON (Green).
