Smart cover question

on the New Ipad, I noticed when I got the new smart cover that, when the cover was opened and folded to the back flat, that the edge flap would "connect" to the underside.  I'm not talking of the hindge side, the opposite side.  Now it seems to not be connecting.  I'm I imagening this or is this something I should take care of?

I don't think that was ever a feature of the Smartcover, only to fold it into a triangle and use it as a stand that way.

  • What is the warranty on an iPad Smart Cover purchased in India?

I purchased a smart cover along with the new iPad in India from an Apple Authorized reseller. I was wondering what is the warranty offered for genuine Apple accessories purchased from an Apple Authorized reseller in India, in particular the Smart Cover. There should be a simple "Yes or No" answer to this question.
According to Apple, they offer a one year warranty for all Apple accessories. http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/products/accessory-english.html
And yet, I was denied warranty coverage by the AASP and Service Center stating that Smart Covers are not covered under this warranty.
    To extend the question:
    1) Is the Apple Smart Cover NOT an Apple Accessory?
    2) If it is an Apple Accessory, then is it not subject to the same warranties granted for all Apple Accessories?
    3) If there is an undisputed understanding that a smart cover is flawed, should the smart cover be replaced within one year?

King is nearly absolutely right. When you restore your iPhone in iTunes (Restore iPhone), new software is downloaded and installed on your iPad. However, if you "Erase All Content and Settings," this simply does what it says. It removes whatever you have on your iPad and wipes it allowing you to start fresh.
It's important to note that this does not install new software on your iPad. If you are having trouble with your iPad and are attempting to restore to troubleshoot or resolve an issue, it's always best to restore from iTunes for new software.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
In regards to your device not being recognized by iTunes, King hit the money. The article he linked will absolutely resolve that issue providing the issue isn't with your computer's hardware or software and isn't related to Apple's products in any way.

  • I have a smart cover for my iPad which works brilliantly, but I don't know how to clean it ?

I have a smart cover for my iPad which works brilliantly, but I don't know how to clean it ? I was very naive in choosing the "cream" colored one and now it doesn't look so neat ... Any ideas ?

Please disregard my question - just found the answer elsewhere on this page :-)

  • Smart Cover and Dock (iPad 2)

For those that have the iPad 2 and using the Smart Cover in conjunction with the Dock.
I currently have a Smart Cover for my iPad 2 and have a Dock on order.
    Question:
Can I leave the Smart Cover on the iPad2 while docking it using the Dock for iPad2?
    Thanks

I have no doubt it'll work with the Smart Cover on THE FRONT..
The question is ; does it work when you open the cover, and put it on the back of the iPad?
I'd like to keep the cover on (the backside) and see the screen WHILE I charge it in the new iPad2 docking...
    Is this possible?
    Thanks

  • Smart cover interfearing with notification

I Have had my iPad 2 for some time now and I have a smart cover I am running iOS 5.0.1, Now I have my Notifications setup and when I have the smart cover closed and sitting on my desk, coffee table, etc. There is no alert of notifications but the moment I open the cover all the notifications that happened while the cover was closed come rushing in.
Now I purchased an iPad 3 which is running iOS 5.1 and I went a purchased the official Apple Smart cover with it and have already noticed that it is doing the same thing as the iPad 2.
I have gone through all the settings and made sure that everything is setup correctly I know the notifications work as when the smart cover is off on both of the iPad 2 & 3 they work perfectly everytime.
So! My questio is what could I be doing wrong is there something that I have missed or is this a common problem.
    Thanks in advance

Thank you for yoru response, SBerman.
The reason for this question is because of the weight and dimensional differences between the iPad 2 and the New iPad.
iPad 2 is 0.346 inches (8.8 mm) while the New iPad 0.37 inches (9.4 mm).
For Wi-Fi with iPad 2, it weighs 1.33 pounds (601 grams) against 1.44 pounds (652 grams) for the New iPad. iPad 2 WiFi + 3G weighs 1.35 pounds (613 grams) against 1.46 pounds (662 grams) for New iPad WiFi + Cellular.
Considering the magnets for the older covers were designed for lesser weight and thickness, there must be some usage implications and effect on wear. At least logically there must be one.
I've also been told that the newer Smart Covers (in the markets post May 2012) have a stronger linking and less incidences of unbonding once it is standing or when being held when in the triangular formation used for typing or FaceTime.

  • HT4101 Which is better Ipad smart cover or case

I am getting a new Ipad 3rd Gen 32GB and I wonder if it is a good thing to purchase either a smart cover or case?  Another question I have is it wise to get a wireless keyboard?

There is no one right answer -- it's like asking what kind of car you should buy.
The smart cover only convers the front.  The smart case has the front cover and adds covering for the back and sides.
Whether you should get a wireless keyboard depends on how much typing you do, as well as how easy or difficult it is for you to use the on-screen keyboard.

  • How to Clean Poly Smart Cover?

My new (since last Tuesday) orange smart cover has a few tiny spots on the front where it touches the back of the ipad when it is open. The comes from my putting the ipad down on various counters/tables. It's not bad now, but I can imagine what it'll be like in six months. Anyone found anything to clean the poly material? I've tried damp cloth by itself and with a drop of liquid soap, neither of which leave more spots but they don't remove the ones that are there.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
There's a Quilt Soap by Orvus (comes in a liquid or a paste) that I've used to get oils out of fabric BUT it works best with soaking. It has no harmful chemicals and you wouldn't have anything to lose by putting a drop or two in 8 oz of water and dabbing.
Question: When you have the cover open, isn't it the gray inside that's touching the back of the iPad, not the orange outside?
(Speaking just for myself, I just accept spots as part of the process and tell myself it adds character!)

  • Compatible Case with Smart Cover

I just got the iPad 2 16 GB with wifi only. I also got a leather smart cover for it. My question is...are there any covers out there that will protect the back of the iPad and still be able to use the smart cover? I did a quick search on amazon and did not come up with too many results.
Also, I'm looking for a screen protector, which models would you recommend? I noticed some protectors worsen the resolution.

ditch the smart cover and get the targus 360 case it is awesome. I got it from amazon. I saw someone with one over the weekend and I ordered mine the same night. received it yesterday and the rest is history. It protects the front and back
Too bulky for me. I have an Otterbox Defender on my iPad 1 and decided to get the iPad2 primarily because of the decrease in size/weight.
I don't want to add back the weight/size with a cover/case so I have the black leather smart cover and an Xgear clear rear plastic shell. Works great, size is only slightly increased and effectively protects the rear.
When I first saw the smart cover I asked myself what happens if the microfiber of the smart cover picks up a bit of grit--will it grind a scratch in the display. To cover this possibility I have the PowerSupport HD anti-glare protective film on order to be delivered Monday. I've tried several different brands of protective film on my iPhone4 and my original iPad and for me the PowerSupport was the best.
There are others supplying similar rear covers but Xgear was shipping soonest so I went with them. All of the suppliers providing rear snap on covers do so in several different colors. The best thing for me about the Xgear was it passed the "Wife" test

  • Case that works with smart cover on?

Has anyone seen any shells or cases that work with the smart cover on? I have only come across one.
    Thanks

SF Bags, aka Waterfield Designs, has several designs made to fit the iPad 2 with the Smart Cover. I, too, have the original Ultimate Exo Sleevecase, but it is a bit large for the iPad 2. They recommend buying the "non-Exo" Ultimate case for the IPad 2.
One case that I particularly like is the SmartCase, and they make a model that fits with iPad 2 with the Smart Cover; it has a pouch on the back for earphones, etc.. I have a similar one for my iPhone and it is very well-made and offers a lot of protection.
They have seven different iPad cases and several are designed specifically for the iPad 2 with the SmartCover.
If you have any questions, you can write them, and they answer them promptly.

  • Ipad 2 dimming after smart cover is opened

Why does my ipad's screen dim after I open the smart cover?  Then I have to touch it first so it wakes up

I don't have the iPad2 so I can't use the Smart Cover (don't think I would choose to use it anyway from what I have read about it) but I thought this was interesting ....
What happens if you remove the Smart Cover completely - i.e. don't use it at all - and power the iPad up using the Power switch. Do you get the same problem then? The iPad has an ambient light sensor too that measures how bright it is where the iPad is being used - it turns up the screen brightness when it's bright to make the screen easier to read and turns down the brightness when it's dark, so that it doesn't blind you. Sometimes the light sensor can be inadvertently covered which can cause it to appear to malfunction.
I copied that text from this forum.

  • Will iPad Smart Cover stain iPad?

    Hi all,
Sorry if this is a stupid, OCD-related question... but I just bought white iPad with Retina and red leather smart cover to go along with it.
I'm thinking about whether or not returning the case, because I read a message somewhere that the interior of the red case can stain the white lining around the edges of the ipad.
Is this something I need to worry about? Or am I just being paranoid?

If you are thinking about putting a screen protector on it, I know a simple trick how to avoid dust under the protector. Go to a room with closed windows, close the door, sit down with the iPad at a table and wait for around 3-5 Minutes without moving too much (while watching tv for example). Most of the dust should be on the floor, and not in the air anymore. Now you can clean the screen of the iPad and put the protector on the screen. Don't worry about trying two or three times, without the dust, you can try much often to get a perfect result. I already put 4 screen protectors on tablets and more than 15 on phones and iPods :-)
The glass shouldn't get stain, it is too slick for the material to stick on the glass.

  • Smart cover fraying at the corner

One of the corners of the smart cover is coming a part. I can see the magnet.
    Anyone else seeing this?
It was purchased the 1st Saturday the iPad 2 was released, so I guess exchanging is out of the question.

even though there are 4 (5?) apple stores here in nyc, i didnt want to make a special trip just for this. today i happened to be around one of them.
yup, they replaced it. was told that the cover has a one year warranty. my leather was fraying on 3 of the 4 corners. i swear didnt do anything to it to cause this, but now im wondering could it be "sweat" from the bag i put it in. though canvas, the lining is basically plastic.

  • Smart Cover doesn't put iPad into Sleep mode in Unlock position after iOS 8.3 update

Prior to the iOS 8.3 update, closing my Smart Cover would put my iPad into Sleep mode when in the Unlock position.  Since the update, this function no longer works in the Unlock position.  In the Lock position, I hear the click and the iPad does go into Sleep mode.  Since I am the only one using my iPad, I don't need it locked when at home.  Has anyone else experienced this problem?

    hi guys. i'm back.
i solved my problem. i refer my iphone 5 to a local distributor. a repairman checked my iphone and i described my problem. he checked my battery. it was fine! then after an hour excavation around hardware solution he told me that the charging kit crashed because of heavy mobility usage!
yes. i did not covered my phone with any cover. the cpu pressure by ios update crashed the kit! now my phone get back after the kit changed and work finally. i restored my phone to ios 8.2 now.
i'm going to buy new iphone. but i'm really confused if such this issue really happened for iphone 6 too!!!!!
    i'm totally disappointed .
