Smart Doc Scan 2.7 Scanner Profiles Disappear

Hello,
In 64-bit Windows 7, with a Scanjet N8420 scanner, immediately after Smart Doc Scan 2.7 is installed, the Select a Scan Profile list is populated with many different profiles. The software can be closed and re-opened multiple times and the profiles will be there each time. After logging off/on, however, when the software starts, it displays "Scanner: There is no selected profile!" and the Select a Scan Profile list is empty/blank. I can click Profiles/Import and browse to the Profiles.xml file, but the Import screen comes up blank also. I also can't create a new profile. If I re-install the software, the scenario will repeat, the profiles display normally until I logoff/on or reboot and logon. I have completely uninstalled the HP scanning sofware, downloaded the latest version and re-installed. Thanks for your help,

Have you installed the ISIS/TWAIN Drivers and Utilities prior installing HP Smart Document Scan Software or may you only installed the Basic Drivers? the ISUS/TWAIN drivers are required for Smart Doc to operate
I suggest unplugging the scanner and gremoving any installed HP software for your scanner, then reinstall the ISIS/TWAIN Drivers below:

The first time the SDSS software is launched after importing Scan Profiles from a previous version you may see a red X or the message "Upgrade Required" next to each of the imported profiles; simply restart the software to fix the problem.

Only if you can find a driver for it. Do you know whose engine is in the scanner? I don't think Trust is a manufacturer so they may be using the scanning engine from another manufacturer.
OS X does not include a driver for that brand nor is it recognized by VueScan. Without a driver it will not work on a Mac.

I have a Konica Minolta DiMage Scan Dual IV scanner for use with 35mm slides. KM refers me to Sony.

I have not used my DiMage Scan Dual IV scanner since 2005. The KM web site tells me it has discontinued support for the unit but that Sony now does it. I am looking for an update to my software that will allow me to connect the unit to a Mac System 10.6.8, then a 10.7 iMac. Can you provide me with an updated program?

Sony is no longer supporting Konica Minolta products. However, as long as the camera body is Sony, the unit will be repaired by Sony for the following situations:
If you do not know whether the defect is of lens or body.
If you’re unable to detach the lens/accessory from the main body
Units requiring repeat repair.

"your notes" in buddy profile disappear

Recently, notes I might have put in a buddy profile disappear for no reason. I can put them back in and they can disappear again and again. Some seem to hold as expected and others just never seem to be able to retain the data. One in particular I have reentered information 4 times this month as recent as yesterday!
I just upgraded to 10.5.7 last week, but this problem began in 10.5.6
Any ideas what is going on?

This happened to me last night. I updated the night before, shut down my macbook and now lost my one and only secure note...and I didn't do Time Machine set-up yet. The latter I am embarrassed about.
Did you get any feedback about this?

HP Smart Document Scan Software profile buttons grayed out

We've got four HP 5000 S2 scanners on two different domains. On one (my home office), the profile buttons are active and I can make changes. In our remote office, the buttons are grayed out for the users. If I run as admin or as another user with admin rights, they remain grayed out.
Logging off and logging logging in with the admin account doesn't change this -- they stay gray.

Would like to scan using older scanner

Hello to the Mac family,
Once again I am stuck. I have been a very longtime user of 9.2. I really loved it. Well my slot load 350 finally died. I bought a new I-mac running X.5.2.
I have an old Epson perfection 636U scanner. I would love to be able to scan into Photoshop with this scanner. Money is now really tight so I need to be able to get this to work if possible.
I must say I wish my old apps like "Sound Jam, Pagemaker etc. worked on this new computer.
I went to the Epson site and see that the drivers are for 8.6 to 9.2. I figured these won't work on X.
There must be some sort of generic Twain driver or something that will let me scan.
This is where I need gentle help. If there is a way to scan using this could someone please advise.
Also please remember that I am a total newbie to X. In 9.2 I could download and install to the P.S. prefs folder or put the driver into import/export folder. I knew how to do all that but on X I am having trouble just doing little things like finding my music.
I really would appreciate it if someone could offer step by step help. The scanner is old but it works great. I know I won't have my OCR software etc. I just need to be able to scan pixs to PS.

First...thanks for the help. I followed your suggestion and I thinkI did it right.
I tried to use the scanner but it doesn't see a scanner. When I go into Photoshop or Imageready, I can select the Twain drivers that are listed from the download. I see 5 drivers and have selected each one. When I select the 640 and try to import it says no device. I did this with all 5 and still no luck.
I rechecked all my connections and have the scanner plugged directly to the computer (no hub).
It really seemed like it would work. Prior to this I had no Twain devices listed.
Do you have any other ideas. I really need to scan and my wife will never OK the purchase of a new scanner. The computer was a large investment for us. It seems as though I should be able to get this scanner to work. I am 100% certain the scanner is good.
As far as the new OS, I am pretty sure in time I will love it. For now it is hard to navigate. In 9.2 I used the exten manager quite a bit. I could trash prefs when having trouble, I knew where most everything was located on the HD. It is just going to be a change and I am not real good with change. Kinda like an old pair of boots, you get to love them......
If you have any other ideas I would really appreciate it, as my wife has several pixs she wants me to scan. These are of recently deceased family members so this is important.....Thanks......mGb.....Jim

Create Smart Collection for Photos Without Lens Profile Applied?

The subject pretty much says it all. Is there any way to create a smart collection of photos that have not had lens profile corrections applied?

Sadly, it's not possible using the options avilable within Lr's Smart Collection dialog. However, some third party plugins might be able to do it, although I'm not aware of any.

ICC Printer Profiles Disappearing

I have OSX in a Mac Pro, and use Photoshop CS4. When printing, I cannot find the Epson 4000 profiles which I used with a prior PC. When I go to the ColorSync Utility, it does not show any of these profiles, though my application of Lightroom 2 does show the Epson Profiles. Does the OSX operating system keep the profiles in another place, and why would they have disappeared from the Photoshop printing module?

The Epson 4000 profiles do not get installed into the normal Profiles folder. Not from the OS X disks or even from Epson's own download. But they are on the hard drive. Go to:
/Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter/PrintingModule/
Right click on the file "SPro4000_Core.plugin". Choose "Show Package Contents" from the contextual menu that appears. Open the folders /Contents/Resources/ICCProfiles/.
You'll find all of the supplied profiles in that folder. Copy them to the /Library/ColorSync/Profiles/ folder.

Want to scan image from scanner by oracle forms

I am using oracle developer suite 10g, oracle application server 10g and oracle database 10g. I can load image or picture in forms by webutil from a location. But now i need that i have a button on the form and when i click then it will scan image from the scanner installed on that machine. I do not khow the way. Pls help me.

Mac Acrobat Pro 11.0.7 Crashes On Scan from "Shared" Scanner

I have an HP Officejet 7610 multifunction that allows you to connect the device to a Mac via USB, ethernet, or WiFi. If you connect via the latter two mechanisms, the scanner (on Mac OX 10.9.4 Mavericks) shows up as a "shared" device. Attempts to scan into Acrobat all fail with an Acrobat crash. This is true whether you use the Document Feeder or the Scan Bed. Fortunately, it does work via USB. But that limits the functionality of the device. Known problem? Any fix?
I can post the Mac error message if that helps. Tried to do it with this but my post kept getting rejected.

Sorry about the inconvenience, we are trying to reproduce the problem internally. Meanwhile, based on the logs and error code, we have a few suggestions. Please follow the workarounds given below:
Workaround #1: Reboot your machine and re-try installation.
Workaround #2 (if #1 does not work):
1) Navigate to the following folder on your machine: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\AdobeApplicationManager\AAMSetup
IMPORTANT: Before you proceed to step #2, please note the versions of the following three files in this folder:
AdobePIM.dll (under sub-folder “resources”)
iASUVersion.dll
Set-up.exe
To find the version, right-click on the file, choose Properties > Details > File Version. Please send the three file version numbers to [email protected]
2) Next, please delete the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\AdobeApplicationManager\AAMSetup
3) Repair your installation by visiting: Add/Remove Programs > right click on Adobe Acrobat 11.0.06 > Change > Repair the installation.
4) Re-try installation
Please note that it is important that you verify the file versions as that will help us debug the problem further.

Remote Management profile disappears on reboot.

Yosemite Server. Yosemite iMac and MBP were updated using Net Install from the server. MBP's that were not set up using Net Install do not have issues.
mdm_profile.mobileconfig and other profiles delete upon reboot. Trust Profile are placed on computer. Enrolled computers through myserver/mydevices to place mdm_profile.mobileconfig on each computer. Other profiles will be pushed to each computer successfully. After reboot they disappear. I had System Preferences open and one by one they were deleted.
It appears to have something to do with the Net Install, due to the fact that they are the only computers that this occurs on. Any ideas?

It is possible. I just ran into this myself. The key is in understanding the difference between Supervised and unsupervised devices. Only supervised devices can be locked to an organizations profile manager. Devices are considered supervised when they are purchased by a company with a business account and account manager from apple.
If the device is supervised there are now additional settings you can adjust. You can also create device groups. Any device purchased from apple without a business account, or from anywhere else, is considered to be an unsupervised device. You can still add it to profile manager and control a lot, but the end user will be able to remove the Management Profile, and thereby all other profiles rolled out on the device or user level.
When you purchase from the apple business store, your account manager will set up a list of the devices.
You log into the Apple Deployment site and enter your order number.
All your new devices are auto ported into your profile manager.
At that point you can set them to device groups
set device groups settings
then when turn them on they will force you to login, register, etc etc.
After that you can layer on device and/or user profiles on top of your group profile.

Can't scan over routed scanner that worked fine on same network?

Prior to being across a router, my multifunction printer (Brother-DCP 8085DN) would happily appear in Image Capture, and scanning worked flawlessly. It now resides on a separate network segment.
I deleted and re-added the printer object, using each if IPP, LPD, and HPJD protocols, specifying the IP address and in each instance it recognized and auto-installed a cups driver for that model. None of these were successful for scanning, although it prints fine.
Any ideas where to start? I see no traffic failing to pass between the mac and the printer.

Yes, and their scanner driver can't see it. Their support provided a troubleshooting document, essentially to see if you could ping the printer. Suffice to say none of that worked or was particularly helpful.
Given that I didn't need the driver when it was on the same subnet, I am trying to figure out what is requiring a local network address to scan, but not to print.

Scanner Utility Disappeared

So, I just spent all afternoon on the phone with HP tech support, because my device was not scanning. It would go back and forth between my computer not recognizing the scanner, and my scanner not recognizing the computer. We reinstalled the latest HP printer software, and also the appropriate drivers from the Apple website, and that seemed to do the trick.
I have a macbook pro with Mavericks, and an HP 4635 all-in-one printer.
I succesfully got the scanner to work after the call, and was using the scan utility succesfully for the past hour or so, by clicking the "Scan" tab in the utility for the printer, then clicking "open scanner". It opens a window where you can name the file, adjust it's color, file type, etc.. and just click scan.
Suddenly (and through absolutely no change on my part, I simply put a new page onto the glass) the utility grayed out, and the "open scanner" window just turned into a blank grey window.
I've restarted the printer and the computer, but now, every time I "open scanner", it brings up a totally empty window.
Any thoughts? This has been ridiculously annoying, as I have been trying to scan all day, and have nothing but issues like this in the 4+ months I've owned this printer.

Open Scanner option disappeared

I was tried to reinstall my printer and scanner
now the open scanner option is missing (under system preference, printer and scanner)
I can only print, but scanning option is gone
I now will have to install the standard scanning app from Cannon which is a pain in the *** to use
anyone knows how to get the open scanner tab back?

To see the Scan tab, or use Image Capture or Preview to scan, you need to have an ICA driver installed for your device. This driver is normally available via Apple, however the package is often updated and older models are removed from the package, so depending on the age of your Canon, the supporting driver may no longer be available from Apple. So check the Canon web site for your model and for an ICA driver. If one is no longer available then you will have to use the Canon scanning application.

System Profiler disappeared

It seems that the system profiler is gone. Can I get a copy of that app, without reinstalling the whole dang thing? OS X 10.4.11 on a imac G5.

Hi, make certain your HD is OK first...

1. Insert the Tiger Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it finishes.
(If perchance you cant Find your Install Disk, at least do the Safe Boot part above).
