Smart folder "Most visited" position in bookmarks toolbar is not consistent among 2 synched firefox installations

I have Firefox installed on 3 devices:
- desktop, windows XP
- desktop, linux ubuntu 12.04
- android mobile, ICS 4.0.4
Latest updated version of Firefox (Italian) on every device. Installations use Sync to synchronize bookmarks, passwords and history.
I have set browsers to show bookmarks toolbar.
The probelm:
"Most visted" smart folder, should be the first item on the very left side of this toolbar.
When I switch from one desktop to the other one, most visited folders does not stay in his position, but I find it on the very right side of the toolbar as last item. If I drag it on the left, when I switch to the other destop, after a while, it goes again on the right.
I close the browser before changing desktop.
I tried to delet the smart folder, ad reset it setting the proper key in about:config section.
This does not fix the issue.
How can I have the folder remain on the left side, and this being consistent among the various installations?

Hi Kossa,
You can also check if the issue occurs in
Clean Boot. If the issue disappears in the Clean Boot environment, you can continue to narrow down which entry is causing the issue.
Besides, uninstall it and re-download
a fresh copy of FireFox to check the result. If the issue still exists, create a new user account to see if it occurs.
If the issue persists, you can contact Mozilla Support directly and use Internet Explorer (IE) during the time.

I have been getting notices to instal latest version of firefox. However, I understand that SMART BOOKMARKS TOOLBAR , is not compatible. I experienced this before. Therefore, I do not want to go for it. .But at the same time, I often get problem in google documents because of no latest version.
    Pl. help

The developer of '''''Smart Bookmarks Bar''''' seems to have abandoned that Add-on and has not issued an update to it since 2009-02-13.

Have a look at a very similar Add-on named '''''Roomy Bookmarks Toolbar'''''. If you like that Add-on, un-install '''''Smart Bookmarks Bar''''' before installing it.

  • I would like to display my bookmarks permanently. Clicking on Firefox, Options and then checking the Bookmarks Toolbar does not do this. How can I display the bookmarks along the left margin like they used to display?

I would like to display my bookmarks. Clicking on Firefox, then Options and then checking off the Bookmarks Toolbar does not do this.
What do I have to do to permanently display my bookmarks?

I asked how I could display my bookmarks permanently.
This answer does not address that issue. Instead, it tells me how I can display my bookmarks temporarily.
While this is nice to know, I wanted to find out how to display my bookmarks permanently - not temporarily.

Turning the Menu Bar on and off is a new feature in version 3.6.

  • I used to have the "most visited" icon on the toolbar and now I can't find it. Any ideas?

  • Certain files contain the current bookmarks and bookmarks toolbar and and could be copied into firefox on another computer. I found these files but they only have my old bookmarks, not my current ones.

In the past, there were certain files in the "Local Settings" and "Application Data" folders that contain my current Bookmarks and current Bookmarks Toolbar contents. I have been able to copy these files to a jumpdrive then use it to bring my CURRENT bookmarks and boomarks toolbar to Firefox on a different computer. When I attempt to do the same now, I get my bookmarks from 2 years ago and nothing at all on my bookmarks toolbar. I have successfully done this as recently as this past February. What happened to them and why can I not do this anymore?
I NEED to have these bookmarks and bookmarks toolbar on my other computers. I do NOT want them uploaded to YOUR servers to be able to do this. The whole reason I use Firefox is to avoid using M$ for the very same reason you are now trying to force on your faithful users. This has been a huge factor for most of us to use Firefox, to get away from IE.

If you have access to Firefox on that computer then export the bookmarks to an HTML file.<br />
Otherwise you need the JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder and restore the bookmarks from the most recent JSON backup.<br />
Note that this will replace all current bookmarks, so in order to keep these you need to export them to an HTML file and reimport that file after you have restored the JSON backup.

  • Bookmarks Toolbar does not appear in "Show All Bookmarks"

I keep all my bookmarks in the Bookmarks Toolbar folder. All are intact and functional. They appear to back up properly (i.e., viewing a newly-created json file with MS Notepad, I find nothing to suggest that anything is missing). BUT, I can't actually view/organize these (or any other) bookmarks in the Library. After clicking "Show All Bookmarks," the main Library pane that opens is empty. In the navigation pane at the left, there is an entry "+ All Bookmarks," suggesting there's an expandable tree there. Clicking on the "+" has no effect; no expanded tree in the Nav pane, no bookmarks in the main pane. In short, I have no way to organize my existing bookmarks, even though they are intact and functional.

    Thanks for the prompt reply.
I tried your SafeMode suggestion. There was no change in the performance of the Bookmark Library; it still opens blank and the "+ All Bookmarks" will not expand.
I skimmed through a few hundred other questions and answers and found a handful of others with what appears to be a similar problem. I'm currently looking at this:
    [[http://kb.mozillazine.org/Bookmarks_history_and_toolbar_buttons_not_working_-_Firefox|Locked or damaged places.sqlite]]
I tried the backup/restore solution. I creating a new backup, verifying that it was current by adding a new bookmark just before backing up, and then checking the json file to be sure it was there. No problem. I did a restore: all bookmarks look like they're still OK, but there was no change in the performance of the Library window.
I'll try CHKDSK next, before I attempt a full rebuild of places.sqlite.

  • Just upgraded to 9.1.0 but my Bookmarks Toolbar doesn't display when I open Firefox (I have to untick then retick it each time in View- Toolbars)!

When I first open Firefox my Bookmarks Toolbar is missing (but it has created the space under the search bar for it). If I untick it then retick it in View->Toolbars it reappears for the session but then disappears again when I reopen Firefox.

    Hi,
Please try the [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Safe%20Mode Safe Mode] procedure. In the first screen enable (tick) '''Reset toolbars and controls''' and '''Make Changes and Restart'''.

  • Bookmarks toolbar is not up-to-date

I have added bookmarks to a new folder saved in my Bookmarks Toolbar Folder. I have displayed my Bookmarks Toolbar Folder, but the new folder does not display. However, if I click on Bookmarks > Bookmarks Toolbar Folder, I see the new folder. It's just not showing up in the actual Toolbar. I tried clicking refresh, and still the changes do not take.

I uninstalled the formerly disabled XMarks plugin, however only the restart seemed to fix it.
It's apparently related to moving a folder to a different area of the toolbar. Only that folder which i relocate (generally under the location bar icon for easy drag and drop) does not show new or relocated icons within. Every other folder shows them fine. Restart of Firefox corrects the behavior, until moved again.

  • Bookmark Toolbar entries not showing up in blank space allocated for them under Navigation Toolbar.

Using Firefox 3.6.13 and 4.0b8. Both are not showing up my Bookmark Toolbar entries. The item does exist. I've used Firefox for years and that toolbar has always showed up. Confirmed that it still exists and was not inadvertently trashed by viewing item and listing when opting to Manage Bookmarks. The item is checked off for display in the menu drop-down (View-Toolbars-Bookmark Toolbar), the space where it would normally display my entries shows up directly under the Navigation Toolbar, but it is blank with no entries displayed.

In the View menu select Toolbars, and then Customize to open the customize toolbar dialog. With the customize toolbar dialog displayed, there should be an icon with the label "Bookmarks Toolbar Items" on the bookmarks toolbar. If it is not there, drag and drop the icon called Bookmarks from the customize toolbar dialog onto the bookmarks toolbar. There will be 2 icons called Bookmarks, the one you want will have an icon that looks like a sheet of paper (it does on Windows, I believe it is the same on the Mac).

  • How can I have mutiple bookmarks toolbars? Not multiple row. Multiple toolbars. With different names.

I just want multiple bookmark toolbars.
Right click the ui, choose a toolbar (e.g. "Work", "Visuals") etc.
    That's it.
    Not multiple rows.
    Thanks.

    That is not possible.
Firefox only has one Bookmarks Toolbar item that can hold the bookmarks.
So you can only use an extension that supports multiple bookmarks rows to add an extra row if the current last one gets filled up.
The best workaround is probably to create bookmarks folders on the bookmarks toolbar and open those to access each category.

  • Bookmark toolbar is not displaying save bookmarks

I have 8 bookmarks saved in the bookmark toolbar, recently they stopped displaying, even though the toolbar is checked to display in browser. The toolbar is blank, but when I look at the bookmarks menu, I see 8 in the toolbar sub menu.

Make sure toolbars like the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible.

Open the Customize window and set which toolbar items to display.
*"3-bar" Firefox menu button > Customize
*check that "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
*if "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the Customize palette into the Customize window to the Bookmarks Toolbar
*if missing items are in the Customize palette then drag them back from the Customize window on the toolbar
