Smart folders with file extensions

I'm trying to create a SF including a couple different file extensions but as soon as add the 2nd file type the search goes empty in finder.....
i want avi, mp4, and flv files in there......

You want to see them all, so you need a logical 'OR' between the file extensions you're seeking.
In the Search Criteria, use Name, Contains, and then enter _.avi OR .mp4 OR .flv_
If you've been trying to do it by adding another criteria with the 'plus' button on the right, then you're using a logical 'AND', and obviously the files should not have two or three file extensions.

    Hello JF.
    I don't think that extension is supported. I believe Firefox can only read .json and .html.

  • Quicktime no longer exporting my movies with file extensions

    Hi all, QT is no longer exporting or saving movies with file extensions. The only way i can view extensions is to turn on all extensions in finder which means i get .app in my apps folder which i find looks naff, have i changed something to cause this?
    Cheers

    In the export or save dialog windows is a check box to "hide" the file extension.
    Remove that check mark.

  • Smart Folders: filtering file labels by the NAME of the label

    I am using Smart Folders to organize some files. Spotlight searches are quite powerful, but I'd like to know if there's more I can do with file labels.
    I am using kMDItemFSLabel values to filter my smart folders, but this presents a small inconvenience: finder's kMDItemFSLabel values for the colors are not obvious (orange = 7, red = 6, yellow = 5 - which is orange higher than red? And green = 2?) and I would prefer use my own priority choice.
    Can either:
    Finder's values for kMDItemFSLabel associated with each color label be changed? (this sound unwise to me, however)
    or
    Can I use the text value I attach to each value as a sort? Say rename "red" label to "100" and "orange" to "90" and then filter by THOSE values?
    Any ideas?

    Thanks for your response. Yeah, I'm aware of that. The problem is that I'd like to do sort or filters with those values, but they aren't very practical. I can assign text values to each label, but I don't seem to be able to use those in sorts.
    So kMDItemFSLabel > 4 yields all orange, yellow and red files. Not bad, but the fact that orange is a higher value means I have to work around this odd enumeration.
    So I'd like to either: change the system values (not ideal) or find a way to filter or sort the text values I can assign to each label. Any idea if either of these are possible?

  • Smart folders for file server

    A while back I got very excited about Spotlight and created some Smart folders to display my PNG, PSD and FLA files that live on our file server.
    Problem is that that when I click on them, they take ages to load. I assume Spotlight is not indexing the file server. If that's the case, can Smart folders ever been of any practical use for me?

    Hi, Paul.
    Spotlight neither works nor plays well with server / network-attached / shared volumes. See my recent post here for details.
    Good luck!

  • Pdf files download with .file extension thus wont open as a pdf

    Hi , when I try to download a pdf document with Firefox, the file downloads but add a .file extension thus wont open as a pdf.
    I do not know if this is relevant but if you try to get the file to open with adobe viewer by telling the pc to open this type of file always with adobe viewer, nothing happens the tick box is greyed out, however if I double click the adobe viewer icon it will quite happily open the downloaded file as a pdf

    The next time you download, STOP, and double check the full name of the file.
    Firefox would not change the file name. But an add-on could.

  • HT4642 how do I save with file extensions in 09.

    Numbers 08 had a check box to save a file with the extension (it didn't always work when saving to pdf) but 09 doesn't save the file with the extension (.numbers) by default and doesn't have an option to save .pdf when saving as a pdf. Is there a way to change this or is it not necessary? I'm worried that some clients with older versions may not be able to open the file without the extension.

    Hello blinkless,
    Numbers is capable of exporting to a variety of different formats (each with the appropriate extension).
    Export in PDF, Excel, CSV, or Numbers ’09 file formats
    Choose File > Export To > [file format] (from the File menu at the top of your computer screen).
    Save a spreadsheet in another format

  • Using Smart folders with front row

    I have several video files on my Hard Disk, and would like to see them without having to move them to the MOVIE folder.
    Creating aliases doesn't work because I always have new files and can't synchronize all of them manually!
    Best way would be to create a Smart folder INSIDE movies that will be automatically populated with all the videos on my computer.
    Any ideas on how to do it?
    thanks,
    P.

    I don't think a "smart folder" is going to work. A "smart folder" is not really a folder itself, it's a text file that remembers the criteria you selected for a search. It's a little Mac OS X magic that makes the Finder think it's a folder. Front Row thinks it's a text file. You won't be able to browse the contents of a "smart folder" with Front Row. Now, why Apple couldn't add smart folder technology into the Front Row interface, I have no idea. I would think they could implement this. I would send them some feedback and request this option:

  • Adobe install does not assiocate programs with file extensions

    Adobe CS4 was installed then Adobe CS5.5 was installed, Adobe CS4 was then removed.  Now I have noticed that some of the workstations are having file association problems, specifically with Indesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.
    The file extensions .pst, .indd. (to name a few) are not associating with the appropriate programs. You can open these files while in the appropate programs, but I cannot double click on the files to open up the program. I've researched this issue and it seems that the following is happening:
    1. The progID file path for the program is still pointing to CS4
    2. The file extension has not been updated to reflect that it belongs to the appropriate program
    3. The following error comes up "Adobe Illustrator has detected a problem in the window registry which needs to be corrected for Illustrator to work properly. Would you like Illustrator to correct the problem now?
    This has happened on 3 different workstations, the fix I found for error 1 is to dive into the registry and update the progID with Adobe CS5.5's new file path.
    To fix Error 2 and 3 Adobe CS5.5 needed to be uninstalled, then a registry sweet of the unused extensions and the old registry entries using Ccleaner, then a reinstall of Adobe CS5.5.  After all of this everything is working perfectly.
    Has anyone else had this issue? If so what were your solutions to these issues? Is there a patch or a hotfix or an update I can push out to multiple machines so I don't have to do this on a per machine instance?

    You have to uninstall the current version of CS and then install the new version of CS in order to keep these file extensions from breaking. It's as simple as that, if you are having issues with Photoshop not showing up then it's due to the file path still pointing to the old version of Photoshop. You need to go into the registry in order to fix this.
    Go to the following:
    Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\photoshop\shell\open\command
    Than change it to the current file path for CS5.5 and that should enable Photoshop to show up in the open with menu in windows.
    For example:
    This is the old file path in the registry
    Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\photoshop.exe
    This is what it should be changed to in order for open with to work
    Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5.1\photoshop.exe
    After you do this it should work, but this is kind of a bandaid in order to get photoshop to work in windows open with menu

  • Clicking on PDF files on the internet does not download with file extension

    When I click on a PDF link it downloads the file but does not save it as a ".pdf" file extension. When using the "save as" function in mozilla the ".pdf" file extension is included.

    Current Firefox versions have enabled a built-in PDF Viewer that doesn't have all features that other PDF readers like the Adobe Reader have or may not function properly otherwise.
    You can change the action for Portable Document Format (PDF) from Preview in Firefox to use another application like the Adobe Reader or set to Always Ask in "Firefox > Options/Preferences > Applications".
    You can set the pdfjs.disabled pref to true on the <b>about:config</b> page to disable the build-in PDF viewer.
    You can check the value of the plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types pref on the about:config page and remove the application/pdf part if present or reset the pref to the default via the right-click context menu.

  • Adobe software with file extensions

    I am wondering if there is a chart or some website you can drive me to that would tell me what programs you would use an image for and what images would open in that program.  For example -
    Indesign - Opens jpg, psd, pdf files - Can use for flyers, posters
    Photoshop - Opens jpg, pdf files - Used to enhance photos
    We make alot of inhouse material for parents and kids and have a logo folder full of different file extensions.  No one knows how or where to use them properly.  If there is some type of cheat sheet we can have to use around the office so we know what types of files can be used in spefic prgrams that would be very helpful!!
    Thanks,

    Try  a Google search for "import and export formats <application's name>," "compatible file formats <application's name>," " compatible file formats," and similar terms without quotes.

  • How do I get PSE 12 to save a TIFF file with file extension ".tiff" instead of ".tif"?

    I am using PSE 12 as an external editor for Aperture.  When I ask to use an external photo editor, Aperture creates a .tiff file in my Aperture folder, launches PSE 12 and tells it to edit that .tiff file.  This all works great.  When I am done editing in PSE 12, I ask it to save the file and it saves it back to the original Aperture folder with a .tif extension.  I can instead say "save as" and then it suggests the file name with a .tif extension.  When I correct the extension to .tiff it warns me that I'm going to overwrite the file (exactly what I want!).  I say yes and then I find out that PSE did not overwrite the file, but wrote it as a .tif file anyway.  I have to go to the folder, delete the .tiff file and rename the .tif file to .tiff and then everything is fine - but what a hassle.  Has anyone solved this problem?

    That's not quite where the problem lies, which is good, because you can't change that. The real solution is that you don't ever want to see the save as window in PSE if you are using PSE as external editor for any program. When you see it you aren't creating a version for your asset management program. Go to the PSE preferences>saving files>on first save and choose to save over existing file. That should do what you want.

  • Anyone know of an app that will merge multiple folders with files inside them without duplicates or losing any files???

    I have two large iTunes folders that have thousands of folders within them and thousands of .mp3 files within those folders.
    I need to merge them without duplicating or replacing files.
    Suggestions?
    Prelude/backstory:
    I just got back one HD (HD1) from a recovery place that recovered close to 45,000 mp3s in addition to the thousands of mp3s that were already there.
    My second HD (HD2) has the same mp3 files that did not need to be recovered, but also has additional mp3s that I added in the time HD1 was away at recovery.
    I want to end up with one iTunes folder that has all the files in it, without duplicating them and without losing any.
    Thanks in advance!

  • How to delete all files and folders (with files) in IsolatedStorage.

    Hi awesome programmer:-) The code I have to clean up the local folder doesn't work properly so I won't even bother posting it here. I basically want to have a "master reset" option to remove all new created files and folder in the local folder.
    Can you give me simple code to remove all files/folder so the app goes back to the state it was when the user installed it for the first time? Thanks in advance. ps I were able to delete a directory(-ies) with this method:
    private async void DeleteDirectory(string directoryName)
    try
    var folder = await Windows.Storage.ApplicationData.Current.LocalFolder.GetFolderAsync(directoryName);
    if (folder != null)
    await folder.DeleteAsync();
    this.Dispatcher.BeginInvoke(delegate()
    txtUpdateFeed.Text = "Folder < " + directoryName + " > deleted.";
    catch (Exception ex)
    this.Dispatcher.BeginInvoke(delegate()
    txtUpdateFeed.Text = "Delete Directory << " + directoryName + " >> Error: " + ex.GetBaseException().Message.ToString();
    It seems to work, I have not tested with all conditions though. Anyway let me put up the code so you can see I have been trying: This is to delete everything but not all files are deleted:
    private void WipeAllData(bool bln)
    try
    txtUpdateFeed.Text = "Removing files...";
    if (bln)
    txtUpdateFeed.Text = "Removing folders...";
    //Delete videos directory
    DeleteDirectory("videos");
    //Delete pictures directory
    DeleteDirectory("pictures");
    txtUpdateFeed.Text = "Folders removed.";
    //Delete the rest of the files
    var iso = IsolatedStorageFile.GetUserStoreForApplication();
    foreach (string name in iso.GetFileNames())
    iso.DeleteFile(name);
    BtnWipeAllData.Content = "Wipe All Data";
    VideoCameraPowerValue = "on";
    BtnVideoCameraPower.Content = "Video Camera: ON";
    PhotoCameraPowerValue = "on";
    BtnPhotoCameraPower.Content = "Photo Camera: ON";
    txtUpdateFeed.Text = "Files removed successfully.";
    catch (Exception ex)
    MessageBox.Show("Wipe All Data Error:\n" + ex.Message.ToString());
    Why isn't all files being deleted?

    Hi Clint William Theron,
    Based on your descriptions, I know that when you run the above code, it does not delete all the files, then have you checked that which kinds of files or in which folder the files can not been deleted?
    Besides, if you want to let the app go back to the state it was when the user installed it for the first time, then an easy way is to uninstall and reinstall it.
    Best Regards,
