Smart groups don't work in Maverick

Smart groups don't work in Mavericky

Apparently smart list names work, but they do not show the expanded list of names to the sender. However, the recipeints do see the expanded list of names. If you Control+Click on the Smart list name in Contacts and select send email from the context menu, the sender does see the expanded list of names. This looks like an "oops" to me. I suggest you report it to Apple here.

since downloading mavericks my smart groups don't insert in mails.

    Hi Colin
I dont know if this fixes your problem, but I found this article: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20050616151738798
    The main suggestion is this:
I was able to get around it in a simple but possibly not obvious way. First, make a smart group with your wanted criteria. Next make a regular group whose only member is the smart group. Presto! A smart group that you can use in Mail.app, and that will also auto-complete.

Any suggestion to come over this terrible upgrade?

  • Why Address Book Smart Group Doesn't Work?

I'm unable to find a solution to, or explination for, the following problem with Address Book and Smart Folders.
I added a custom date field for my contacts.
Set the date for one year and five days ago.
    Created Smart folder with condition:
custom date 'is not within' one year.
Well, my contact I created with custom date of one year and five days ago did not appear in the smart group I created.
But it does appear in a smart group with condition 'is within' one month.
Seems that the Smart Group is ignoring the year. Doesn't seem very smart to me, lol.
Any advice on what is going on, or how to fix it would be greatly appreciated. I've spent hours looking for answers online and haven't found anything. Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi The Zack,
In case you think you are crazy, I can confirm that in this area you are not. I just switched from years of PC drudgery to the the new Mac religion. I even switched all my email/address/calendar stuff to pure Apple. Some bumps and hiccups, but still I guess the real test is when I log back onto my old PC I feel like I am watching a rerun of a black and white sitcom.
I digress. On of my hiccups is exactly the same as yours. Address Book is always able to search. It seems a good number of the names in my address book can not be found by typing in any part of their information in the search box. I could not fix this by duplicating the address entry, but I could get it work by hand typing in a new duplicate address entry. I am hoping you and Barry discover a cleaner solution to this.
    Thx, Kmon23

  • Address Book "Groups" and "Smart Groups" don't appear on iPod Touch

In Address Book I have some 200 contacts (cards) and I've started making groups manually and also using Smart Groups.
The contacts are all there-- WELL WAIT-- I'm not there! ME-- My contact card is not listed in iPod!
ALSO: none of my GROUPS or SMART GROUPS are listed! Why not?
    OK appreciate any comments.
    Steve

OK so I guess I have to solve my own problems...
...seems that if you delete and re-do the GROUPS in Address Book, then they do appear.
As to "Smart Groups"-- seems they never appear on the iPod Touch.
    Other comments or info appreciated.
    Best regards,

  • External speakers don't work with Maverick

My external speakers will not work in Maverick....internal speakers ok. Tried rebooting, unplugging external speakers from back of computer, etc.......going to "sound" in System Preferences, only "internal speakers" is listed. Had external sound PRIOR to Maverick.....

Boy, do I feel like an idiot !!!  I had the speakers plugged into the input RIGHT NEXT TO the headphone port !! I could have sworn that's where I unplugged them when I did some "housekeeping" on my desk ! I even labeled that port "speakers"............I must say though that the"output" in "sound" in sys. pref. NOW SHOWS UP AS HEADPHONES !! So SORRY for taking up your time, but you got my external speakers working, and for that I am VERY grateful !!  I guess in all your experiences you've seen it all, but................THANKS AGAIN !!!!

  • Bluetooth Smart Dongle no longer working in Mavericks.

I've been using the IOGear Bluetooth 4.0 Dongle on my late '08 MBP for quite some time.  After upgrading to Mavericks, it was no longer being recognized, and worse, when I unplug it my system crashes and reboots "sleep/wake failure".  I tried cycling the computer on and off with and without bluetooth enabled.  I wiped the HD and did a fresh install of mavericks, I deleted the .kext and replaced it, then tried an older version of the Bluetooth .kext file - no dice!
    Any ideas?

Do you know how to downgrade back to 10.8.5 without a time machine backup?
That's a tough thing to do.  You could make a "clone" of the existing contents of your Mac, boot from the clone, erase your internal drive, download 10.8.5, then install it on the internal drive.  Once you've booted from the newly-installed 10.8.5, then use Setup Assistant to pull your user account from the clone.
Mail is likely to give you the biggest problem, as there were changes to the way Mail organizes its files.  To work around this, I'd export any local mailboxes while running 10.9.  Once you have a working 10.8.5 system, delete all your Mail accounts, add them again, then import the local mailboxes from the exported data.

  • Smart Mailboxes don't work with the junk folder

I've had a Smart Mailbox that worked for many years, but now it wont. This Smart Mailbox is set up like this:
Contains messages that match all of the following conditions:
    Message is in Mailbox Junk
    Subject Does not contain *VL-JUNK*
    Subject Does not contain *SL-JUNK*
And that's it. *SL-JUNK* is put into the subject lines of suspected emails by my email hosting company. The reason I have this smart mailbox is to double check emails that Mac Mail thinks are junk but aren't. It's a system that has worked great until recently.
I've noticed that when I change the Smart Mailbox to this:
Contains messages that match all of the following conditions:
    Message is in Mailbox Junk
Nothing populates the mailbox. Are Smart Mailboxes no longer able to pull emails from the Junk folder?
    Thanks!

go to mail preferences->general and make sure that the box "when searching mailboxes include results from Junk" is checked. if it's checked already uncheck and recheck it.

  • Mail Rules don't work in Mavericks

It seems with the update to 10.9 Mavericks Mail rules no longer work. My email address was harvested by spamers and I have been using rules to weed throught the 100's of emails that I receive each day.
Russian Brides, Vigra, Learn a new language get moved into the trash when delievered. Now nothing happens.
I just tried to write a new rule and when I clicked the Prefs pannel I got the spinning cursor. After waiting for some time I did a force quit only to find that Mail was not responding.
Anyone have any ideas? I did not see any major changes with Mail and Mavericks so I'm not sure why it's been effected.
    MD

You might condider using an Applescript with Mail Rules.
Here's one that I use (Use whitelist to not move to spam):
(Just edit to your junk or whitelist)
Note:  The Applescripit must be saved to: ~/Library/Application Scripts/com.apple.mail/

Creating smart list doesn't to appear to work properly if at all.

  • Managed Computers or Computer group don't work!

    Hi,
We have a mainly wireless network with all computers bound to OD. However, we can't seem to enable managed preferences like Applications and or Log On at the computer level or group of computers level.
All preferences seem to only work at the User or Group level. Does anyone have any comments?
    Thanks
    Steve

    Hi Steve
First thing I would check is to make sure client machines have the /LDAPv3/ServerIPorFQDN listed in the Authentication and Contacts Search Order (Directory Utility). The way I do this is to bind the client hardware first and then add them to the computer list. As you configure hardware mcx there is a slight delay and you should see the login window display the list of users. Ideally you should restart the clients for hardware mcx to fully populate.
    Hope this helps?
    Tony
