Smart guides. They cease to work at 800% zoom level.

Any reason for that?

Lewis when you you zoomed in you some how got the direct select too active you were reshaping the rectangle not moving it.

<br />I was wrong but it is good because I know what manifests the bug and you are correct it is a bug, I apologize for judging so soon.
<br />
<br />Try this odd one for size. deselect both objects then zoom in to say 1600%. Now select one of the objects and move it over the other no smart guides! correct?
<br />
<br />Now zoom back out so you can see the two rectangles and select one of the objects now zoom in to say 1600% deselect the selected rectangle, then select it again and move it over the other rectangle, you got smart guides.
<br />
<br />I will log it in as a bug. you should as well.
<br />
<br />There also appears to be other factors, Like I think that originally before zooming the two objects might have to aligned as this doe not always happens as I prescribe.

  • Smart Guide/Snap to point not working

    Hi
    I am trying to remove a circular shape from a rectangle in illustrator, the retangles width is 10px and the diameter of the circle is 13px, I centre the circle ontop of the rectangle ( or I appear to)  but when I use the Shape mode tool minus front, the circle is no longer centred ( see images)
    I have tried switching off smart guides and snap to grid and am still having the same problem.
    In the above image you can see once I have divided the 13px circle from the rectangle it has moved off to one side.
    Also when I am trying to manually place the circle ( rather than using the centre guides ) I can only move it by a large degree it alway moves further than I move the mouse, could this be because of a pixel grid? I do not think I am using this. ( can see in the above image where I am trying to place the circle and when I let go of the mouse, the grey circle is where it lands
    From the 2 images below you can see that there is a 1px difference on either side of the extracted circle I was trying to get centred
    I should mention that the 'Align to pixel grid' in the transform menu is inactive when I am trying to do this, as I initially thought that this may be the cause of my problems, but it made no difference

    Rebecca,
    So why does the minus front tool mess up alignment so much?
    No clue. I believe this issue has never been reported.
    At a first glance, it really looked like an Align to Pixel Grid issue, and also the fact that it works when both object widths have an odd (or even) number of pixels.
    But that is apart from the fact that you stated that it was off. If it were on, Align to Pixel Grid would apply to the circle, to the rectangle, or to both.
    Obviously, it is possible to (direct) select each and check. It is also possible to check the Y value of the centre for both in the Transform palette and see that they are actually identical before applying the Pathfinder.
    And if on, Align to Pixel Grid should also affect/destroy the Object>Path>Divide Objects Below way. And it should make it impossible to even place both objects centre aligned when one is an odd number of pixels wide and the other is an even number wide.
    As the issue is described, it may indicate some Pathfinder>Minus Front malfunctioning.
    It may be worth trying some of the following things (you may have tried/done some of them already) and see whether it helps (the following is a general list of things you may try when it is not in a specific file; 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences):
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer;
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, other items may also be relevant);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6, and reinstall.

  • In CS6, smart guides don't appear to be working correctly.

    I'm having some trouble with smart guides in Ai CS6. They are on. However, when my cursor intersects a guide path, words like 'intersect' and 'guide' do not appear, as I have seen them do for others. Also, the 'heads-up' information display that shows the width and height, e.g. when using the grid tool, does not appear either.
    The guides are working to some extent, it seems, since I do get green lines here and there.

    dustOfRumors,
    If you have Snap to Grid on, it disables the use of Smart Guides, so you may turn it off, if.

  • Smart guides not working

    Hello,
    I'm working in Illustrator CS4 on a Mac.
    In Preferences, I set Smart Guides to 30 degree angles and clicked on Construction Guides.
    In View, I clicked on Smart Guides (command U).
    However, when I click on an anchor point and try to move it 30 degrees with Smart Guides to guide me, they don't show up.
    I've tried restarting the program and turning Smart Guides on/off, but nothing seems to work.
    Any idea why the Smart Guide lines don't show up?
    Thank you.
    Joe

    No, I don't think Pixel Preview is the answer.
    I've used Smart Guides effectively for years in Illustrator CS3 without Pixel Preview.
    Often I draw my objects in Illustrator to appear isometric. So I turn on the Smart Guides to help me draw at 30 degree angles.
    As I said, I've done this effectively for years. It's only recently that I noticed that the 30 degree angle guides are not working effectively. On some documents they appear correctly, some they don't appear at all.
    I wonder if this is a glitch is CS4.
    In the most current document I have, I am able to draw a stroke/line at 30 degrees using Smart Guides. I click to establish an anchor point and then move my curser to establish a second anchor point. When I go to click the second anchor (to create the line), 30 degree Smart Guides appear correctly. I am not in Pixel Preview mode.
    However, when I try to move an object (or 2 or more selected anchor points), the 30 degree Smart Guides do not appear.
    Can someone try to duplicate the above and see if they get the same results?
    Thank you.

  • Smart Guides Do Not Work

    My smart guides do not work. From the time I loaded CS5 they have not worked. If you go to View > Grids & Guides > the Smart Guides are grayed out.
    Then if you go to the Control Panel > View Options, the smart Guides are not grayed out they are checked.
    I have looked around and read trying to find out whats up with these guides but have not found anything the works. I have also uninstalled InDesign and reinstalled. This stall did not work.
    If anyone has any idea of why or how to get the guides to work that would be great.
      Thanks for your help...

    You must have Snap to Document Grid enabled.
    Why is [Some Feature] Grayed Out in InDesign?

  • Smart Guides not working (grayed out).

    I too am having problems with the 'Smart Guides' option being grayed out in the 'View' - 'Grids and Guides' column. I've replaced the preferences, checked all the appropriate boxes, yet nothing I do works. Additionally, the 'Smart Guides' did work for some time. However, for reason(s) I'm unaware of, they just stopped showing up. I'm stumped. Any suggestions?

    I've branched your question out of the Replace Your Prefs thread into one of its own and changed the title so more people will see it. I'm not able to make the menu item go gray here, and I'm going to presume that you followed the instructions in the other thread for trashing the prefs, so I'm not going to suggest you do that again, at least not yet.
    It would help if we know your OS and version of ID (including the update patch applied).

  • Smart Guides Randomly Not Working

    Hi,
    I've noticed in Illustrator CS4 (with all the updates) that Smart Guides does not seem to work on some files.
    I make a new file in CS4 and then they automatically seem to work.
    I have tried re-saving the file and turning on and off the Smart Guide settings and playing with the Control button.
    I attached a sample file where it's not working as a demo.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • What's wrong with the "guided tours"?  They won't work on my computer OR my ipad??

    What's wrong with Apple's "guided tours"?  They won't work on my computer OR my ipad???

    The videos all work fine for me. The functioning and performance of these videos have nothing to do with Adobe.
    When problems with video appear they often are related to temporary Internet slowdowns or just poor Internet bandwidth.

  • My smart guides are not working in Illustrator CC

    I've check my settings, view, everything. I cannot seem to get smart guides to work. ( and yes, I've made sure I haven't just pressed command U )

    J.Beech,
    I don't know how but I've fixed it.
    That is a pity. It is an old well known issue, or was until you came along, or rather still is because you cannot tell how.

  • Smart Guides in Indesign aren't working suddenly

    I am working on a 100 page catalog.  I am on page 70 and suddenly my smart guides will not work for all of the next pages after page 70.  If I go back to any of the previous pages the smart guides work without a problem.  Any thoughts or ideas as to what is the problem?

    There are a couple standard troubleshooting techniques that might help.
    There could be corruption in your document. Saving as IDML and reopening might help. Here's how:

    If that doesn't work, try restoring your InDesign preferences. Here are some instructions:

  • Align / smart guides not working

    I am having a super-weird problem. I have a black rectangle that I would like to be exactly the same width as a larger white rectangle. When I try aligning the left edges, it is ever so slightly off. When I turn on smart guides and try to transform the black rectangle to snap to the white rectangle's left edge, the same thing happens -- ever so slightly off.
    There are only 3 rectangles in the entire .ai, and I have checked to make sure that snap to pixels / snap to grid are turned off. I have quit and restarted the program.
    Any clue why align is being funky, or how to fix it?
    Thanks!

    It sounds like something is going on with the alignment using the align tool. You could, if need be do it the old fashion way by the numbers. Entering numeric values fo X and Y positions to align exactly. This can be done with copy and paste too.
    Wait, you may need to check how your aligning in Preferences.
    Are you aligning to Preview Bounds or to the actual vectors?
    Or… Vector

  • Adobe Illustrator CC 2014 – Smart Guides Not Working

    I have been having an issue with Illustrator CC 2014's smart guides not snapping to other objects. In this instance I dragged used the 'Selection Tool' to drag one of the 8 points of the bounding box to the second square.
    This also happens when trying to resize items to guides, Illustrator 'snaps' the object to the guide, but it is not inline!
    I have noticed that this issue does not occur when resizing or moving groups of objects groups of objects. It seems that the two different types of bounding boxes are the issue?

    There seems to be a problem with rectangle shapes and smart guides. The problem has been reported in the forum some time ago.

  • Smart guides and snap to point not working in Adobe Illustrator CC 2014

    Hello,
    I am having a lot of issues with Illustrator CC 2014 and the Smart Guides. Every time I try and snap one object to another or snap an object to a guide, the object snaps either above or below the guide/object but never snaps correctly. This also happens when I am zoomed in all the way!
    I do not have align to pixel grid or snap to grid turned on.

    David,
    I do not have align to pixel grid or snap to grid turned on
    It sounds as if Illy thinks the former.
    The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);

  • Snap to? Smart Guides? Not sure what the issue is but it's annoying.

    Just made the big step up from CS2 to CS5. Lots of changes as to be expected but otherwise a smooth transition. Nice work Adobe.
    One recurring issue has got me baffled and annoyed. It appears to be a snap-to function yet I'm unable to locate the place where it might be disabled.
    In my previous version of InDesign resizing window sizes and shapes was a fluid and easy motion. Now it's staggering and akward. The text and picture boxes want to snap on an unseen grid. I understand how this can be a useful function for some kinds of work but it also gets in the way of composing an image.
    Any suggestions on how to disable this?
    Presently, I have both Smart Guides and Snap to Document Grid UNCHECKED in the View menu yet I'm remain unable to smoothly and fluidly size my text and picture boxes.
    Thanks!

    There's another new feature, Live Screen Drawing, that's on by default, but for many users it causes real choppiness in moving around on screen. It's at the bottom of the Interface section of the preferences. Try setting it to Delayed. That will allow you to have a live preview when you really want it by clicking, then holding for a moment before you drag, but moving immediately will give you what you are used to in CS2.
    I actually think Smart Guides are worth using. They save me a TON of time.

  • Smart guides (with Ctrl): awesome

    Normally I (and everyone else, I guess) only post here when I got a question, but I just had to say I really LOVE the Smart guides in IDCS4...!!! And specially the option to use them temporarily with Ctrl (on the Mac). When you have the option on all the time, it can be a bit annoying, so I never have it on, but I always use Ctrl (áfter starting to drag something, not before) to enable it just for what I need to do. It's absolutely awesome. (Maybe this Ctrl-tip is new for some here, so my post is not entirely useless! )
    Adobe, you rock: you really made my work a joy with InDesign!!!

    I think you are getting confused with Illustrator - Smart Guides work differently in Illustrator. 45% angles would suggest that you are expecting Photoshop Smart Guides to work the same way, and as far as Im aware, they don't
