Smart Mailbox -- How Do I Automatically Move Old Emails?

I Have a huge pile of emails in my inbox -- like 20,000+ from over a number of years.
I figure storage is cheap and I'm lazy so I'm not up to deleting / sorting / organizing / ... but I wouldn't mind dumping the old emails to a storage folder that I could still find stuff if I needed to search.
I thought smart mailboxes would be the answer so I made one with the rule "if date received is before December 31, 2008." The mailbox now has all those more-than-a-year-old emails but so does my inbox. And if I delete the email from the inbox it disappears from the "old emails" smart mailbox too.
What I'd like to do is set it up so any email more than a year old is moved from my inbox to an old emails folder / mailbox / whatever. My inbox would only hold emails less than a year old and all the older messages would go elsewhere.
Is there an easy way to do this move automatically?

Hi there James, yes a Smart Mailbx is just an Alias to ones with certain criteria in your other boxes.
Just create a new Mailbox>On My Mac, then make a Rule>Date Recieved>is 365 days old>Move message to>then choose your new folder/mailbox.

Winston - thank you for your reps but that is common sense... Icloud only displays 50 emails at a time. So your recommendation doesn't work if you have 330,000 emails in your inbox. I am looking for a way to do a mass move.. Like a filter or rule that runs in the inbox. Current rules can only work as emails arrive.
Any other thoughts?

Log onto the server through your email providers web interface and delete them there.

Do you get a drop down list with suggestions if you clear that "from" field and click elsewhere on that page to move the focus off that field and then double-click again in that field or start typing the first letters of that unwanted email address?

That's what I'd do, since they are all free apps. Be sure & delete in iTunes as well as on your phone. When prompted in iTunes, move all files to trash & empty your trash. You don't want any trace of them left.

You would have to change it back to your old email address in order to turn off "Find My iPhone" on your devices. After you changed it back to your old address and deactivated "Find My iPhone" (activation lock) you could change your Apple ID to your new address again. Now it should wok on all your devices.

If your Apple ID was changed from your old account, you may have to change it back to your old account to be able to sign out and then change it back after that is done. Take a look at the article below for more information.

OK that's what Ithought you were talking about.
You can't actually delete an old Apple ID. You just sign into the new ID to use that one. Your old ID must be popping up because you used it in the past to purchase content with it. You cannot transfer purchases from one Apple ID to another Apple ID. You have to continue to use the old ID if you want to update content that was used to purchase with that ID.
Did you sign into your new account in the settings and you can't stay signed in?

Set up your new Apple ID email as your primary email and delete the old one. Go to this page or the App Store and do this

You have to open iTunes -> click iTunes Store and login with the old email and then logout -> Now login with the new email that you want and connect your iPhone via USB to your computer and synchronize your iPhone with new email.

Go to Settings>Store>Apple ID, tap the ID shown, sign out, sign back in with the new ID. However, app updates for your apps purchased with your older ID will always ask for the password for this ID. (Apps are permanently tied to the Apple ID used to purchase them.)

I am soooooooooooo confused now. Ok, if you are having problems with Yahoo Mail and Gmail but you do not use Apple's Mail you need to do the following:
1 - Post in Yahoo's Mail forums and/or contact their tech support.
2 - Post in Gmails forums and/or contact their tech support.
Neither of the above are Apple's products.
