Smart Mailboxes work with Junk folder

I'm trying to get a smart mailbox to populate with certain messages from my Junk folder. This use to work, but now it doesn't. Even though my Junk folder has hundreds of emails, none show up in my Smart Mailbox.

Sorry to have misled you. I just tested creating a Smart Mailbox with criteria that I knew should pick up a message I had purposefully left in the Junk, and found that it would not. I then noticed that in the creation window you have to explicitly enable it to include Trash and Sent, so the clear implication is that Junk is not even an option.
The selection in Mail Preferences/General is apparently applicable only to actual searches, and not the search criteria of a Smart Mailbox.

In a word, no.
Messages in a Smart mailbox include, or are a pointer to the original message in the originating mailbox only. You can delete a message from a Smart mailbox, and the original message in the originating mailbox will also be deleted, but the same does not apply when deleting an entire Smart Mailbox.

Smart Mailbox needs "include Junk Mail Folder" option, seeking work-around

For me it's convenient to have a Smart Mailbox defined simply by "Message is new", as this collects together in one place all the unread messages that I've set rules to put in different mailboxes. While there is an option on the panel for defining Smart Mailboxes to include Trash or Sent in the smart-search, there is no such option to include the Junk mail folder, which I would like to do for a while until I believe it has "learned" well enough what I consider junk or not.
(Apple, take note: If Trash is an option, Junk should be, too!)
Any suggestions for a good work-around? Thanks!

I suggest you send feedback to Apple by filling out the [Feedback Form|http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html>. Maybe they'll incorporate these options in a future version of Mail.

PS: Concerning your "complex criteria". Have you already tried the boolean operators "or" and "not" in the search field? (BTW, two search strings are by default combined with the "and" operator, so there is no need for a separate "and".)

Problem with junk folder showing up when I don't want it and have set to not have it

Just updated Thunderbird. Have settings set to NOT create junk folder, but a junk folder keeps showing up with emails in it (that are not junk!). Also, and even worse, there is no notification that there are new emails in the junk folder- I have to click on the folder to check for emails in that folder. I have disabled all setting related to junk. We use thunderbird at work and everybody who has recently updated has this problem. Obviously, it is a bug in the new update. Help!!!

Does your anti virus program filter spam or junk mail? does your mail provider? are these accounts IMAP or POP?

HP Protect Smart not working with windows 7

Hi there
i bought hp dv4 special edition with windows vista installed
hp protect smart was working fine on windows vista
i replaced vista by windows 7 RC
but HP protect smart not working now ( disabled because the drive is not supported!!!!!!!!)
i contact hp support and they send an update for hp protect smart but this did not fix the problem
so i tried to install the software in compatibility mode as windows vista as microsoft suggested but the problem still exsist
has anyone face this problem and fix it?

Smart Album works with Desktop, not Screen Saver?

I've created a Smart Album in iPhoto, with my 5-star photos in it, calling it "My Favorites". In iPhoto, there are 116 photos right now. When I go to my Desktop settings, I see all the photos in "My Favorites".
When I go to Screen Saver, I get 5 of the photos in that Smart Album. I've got other Smart Albums, some with thousands in them, and they display just fine.
I've deleted and re-created "My Favorites", even using a different name. I still get the same results.
Any ideas why Desktop would work, but Screen Saver won't, with the exact same Smart Album?

Update: I'm now running 10.6.3 and iPhoto 8.1.2, and the problem is gone.

The only cache I found was ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.ScreenSaver.Engine/Cache.db. Removing that had no effect; might this have been the wrong one, and if so, where is the right one?

Mail.app : smart Mailbox misbehaves with condition "any"

Weird problem I found out today.
I created a Smart Mailbox to help me filtering messages to a certain company (for example : Apple)
the condition in the Smart Mailbox is "entire message contains Apple"
It works fine.
I want to add a second criteria to group messages about a second company (for example : Mac)
the conditions now look like : "contains messages that match ANY of the following conditions"
entire message contains "Apple"
entire message contains "Mac"
It doesn't show any result at all !!!!
Trying to do the filtering by changing "ANY" to "ALL" works correctly.
What's wrong here ? Do I have a wrong perception of what "ANY" means ?

Smart mailbox issues with "any recipient" or "from" in 10.4.11, mail 2.1.3

smart mailbox isn't reacting to its rules correctly. I have added a new group in adressbook then created a smart mailbox with "sender is member of group" and set the group accordingly. No joy.
I also tried right clicking an adress in a message and choosing "create smart mailbox". The rule is: from, contains, "adress that i right-clicked". no joy.
am i missing something?

But with the problems you ebded up with, at the very least do this...
Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), off the HD & use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, reboot once more.

Why don't non simplistic smart playlists work with my iTouch?

I like listening to my podcasts in the order they were released.
So I have a smart playlist that say:
genre=podcast
ignore these podcasts
include only podcasts played < 1
This smart playlist appears in the sync list but does not sync with my iTouch (2nd gen i think).
Other smart playlists like
rating >= *
do sync.
I thought this worked with my 2nd generation classic.
What gives?

Good questions, looks like the limiting number is just broken on iOS devices. For the second, you'd have to try it out. Do they update as songs are played? And if they update do they download the new songs automatically or just put the "cloud" listing in the list?

Smart mailboxes work on one computer but not another

I have an Macbook Air I use for work and I have setup smart mailboxes which work fine. On my personal Macbook Pro the smart mailboxes show up that I created on my Air but nothing shows up (of course). When I create a smart mailbox on my Pro it doesn't work. I no longer have iCloud mail synching to my Air and that did not make a difference.
How can I get smart mailboxes to work on my Pro?

Could it be a permission problem?

Does The Sony Smart Headset Work With All Phones

Seeing as the Sony Smart Headset MH1-c is a CTIA based headset, it should work with all other phones right? I just want someone to confirm that it can work with the Samsung Galaxy S3.

Smart case work with dock?

Any one know if the new iPad Smart Case will work with the dock?

I don't believe it will because the dock was designed for the iPad space only. I think you have to take off the case to put it on the dock.
