Smart Playlist fromseveral playlists

I have been using iTunes for Windows for a while and had no trouble using smart playlists. Recently I switched to a mac and have the following problem with Smart playlists.
I have a playlist that looked at songs in 5 playlists. So, I set up this playlist to match "ANY" and then add the five source playlists. The problem is that when I click on the Edit of the Smart playlist, it shows match "ALL" as selected. After changing this sevral times it still defaults to match "ALL." I checked on two other smart playlist where the source is only other playlists and encounter the same situation. I never had this problem on the PC.
Any idea on what's happening?

This is a known bug.

I have recently updated my laptop from Windows Vista to Windows 7. I have just added three new playlists to my Ipod Shuffle, 3rd generation. On the panel in ITunes in view on the computer, all looks fine and music plays. However, after syncing a million times, when clicking to "hear" the playlists, the voice will call out all the old playlists just fine - except for the 3 new ones I've added; it calls them out as "playlist 3, playlist 8, or "purchased". All software for the ITunes has been updated as of the moment. Why would switching from Vista to Windows 7 cause this frustrating issue? All help appreciated.

If VoiceOver is disabled in iTunes, you hear an abbreviated menu of playlists in numbered order, but not by name (for example, “Playlist 1, Playlist 2,” and so on).
So you'll want to make sure VoiceOver is enabled to correct this.

  • Copying Playlists and Playlist Folders from iTunes to an iPod

I have my music library structured in iTunes with Playlist Folders (for Composers) which contain Playlists (for Works). Now I am having trouble duplicating this structure on my iPod.
Just after Playlist Folders were introduced in iTunes, the iPod (mine is a 160GB Classic) didn't support Folders at all. But in some later version suddenly it did. Great! Everything seemed fine. But now, when I try to copy a Playlist Folder by Drag and Drop to the iPod, on the iPod it ends up just as a Playlist (not a Folder), at least as seen by iTunes (v8.2.1 (6)). Actually on the iPod itself, the folder structure (under Composers) is displayed but iTunes shows the entry just as a Playlist. I've tried disconnecting the iPod and restarting iTunes but that didn't help.
Am I doing something wrong in the copying? Can anyone suggest how I can copy Playlist Folders to the iPod so that iTunes displays them as Plalist Folders there?

Many thanks again for the extensive answer.

Once you have the playlist sorted correctly in iTunes, then use the "Copy to play order" command I mentioned and then re-sync the iPod. The sort order on the playlist on the iPod should then match the order in iTunes. If not, then I suspect you're doing something wrong.
I did use the "Copy to play order" command as you described. The problem I have is that, although the play orders all look fine when seen from iTunes (both for the music library and when looking at the iPod), on the iPod itself the order is not correct. Quite likely I'm doing something wrong but I haven't been able to discover what

Do you mean "Structure" as in playlist folder/plalist structure, or do you mean "Sort order"? If you are auto-syncing the iPod then the playlist folder/playlist hierarchy should transfer exactly as it is in iTunes.
Understanding "Structure" may be part of the problem. Maybe I'm trying to do something that is impossible. I have built my private structure in iTunes, using Playlist Folders for composers and then Playlists (within the Folder) for each work of that composer, e.g.
    -Playlist Folder: Wagner
    --Playlist: Wagner - Das Rheingold
    ----Track 1
    ----Track 2
    --Playlist: Wagner - Götterdämmerung
    ----Track 1
    etc.
That works fine (for me) in iTunes.
On the iPod, though, you get something similar via Composers but I don't really believe that the iPod is using my structure. Rather I think it finds the composers via the Composer tag in the "songs"/tracks and then makes groupings depending on the album. That works out similar to my structure, for I define albums for each work. However, I'm not really convinced that my playlists as such are used at all on the iPod, even after syncing (as evidenced in the example where I had two playlists in iTunes with the same album name and they were merged when seen on the iPod).
That aside, it still doesn't explain why the play order is sometimes (but not always) mucked up when looked at directly on the iPod, when the same work's play order looks fine when the iPod's contents are displayed by iTunes.
At the moment I remain confused and puzzled. I won't now be able to follow the problem further till after the weekend but maybe next week I'll try deleting the playlists which are causing me trouble (with the play order) and redefine them, to see whether the confused play order happens again.

  • Dragging tracks into playlists/ within playlists suddenly a problem (itunes version 12.1.2)

I updated to 12.1.2 april 15 (its may 4 today) and literally all of a sudden this morning I cannot drag and drop any tracks into playlists, within playlists, or to devices. I can add with the right click menu option but cannot drag. I have OS X 10.10.3 and I have not made any changes to the operating system or computer. I searched google and the itunes forum and can't find any explanation that applies to my situation. Why is this happening and what can I do to fix it as quickly as possible?

i don't know... its about the most frustrating random itunes problem i've ever experienced. i still have no idea why it spontaneously started malfunctioning but i managed to "fix" it by restarting my computer... i have no idea why that seems to have worked. i saw it on a similar but not necessarily applicable thread and thought it was worth a shot before spending the next hour or so troubleshooting with apple. just looking at all the boards today trying to figure out how to fix this particular issue, there are literally so many different similar cases of so many problems with itunes that its become clear they need to start fresh... anyway, maybe see if a restart helps resolve the click and drag issue for you. good luck.

  • Interleave smart and "dumb" playlists in iTunes window

Under the "PLAYLISTS" heading in my iTunes window, all the smart playlists are listed first, with the regular, "dumb" playlists at the bottom. That's different from the default listing on my iPod, where all playlists are sorted by name regardless of ... well, smartness or dumbness, for lack of better terms. So I've given a few important playlists (some smart, some dumb) special names, so they jump to the top of the list on my iPod, and it works great.
How can I mimic the sort order I see on my iPod in iTunes? It would be more convenient to manage those playlists if they were sorted by name, and with the icons designating which playlists are smart I don't imagine it would be too confusing.

Ok. This is driving me mad.
I turned iTunes Match on in November 13 and everything ran (sort of fine). I can get over the fact that if I play anything on my iPad or iPhone 5 then the play count never updates.
My main problem is to do with smart playlists and normal playlists.
The recently added smart playlist has frozen. So on my MacBook it works fine and refreshes as it should but on my iPad it refuses to update. So I'm stuck with a playlist from several moths ago.
The other main smart playlist (recently played) refreshes find on the iPad.
Secondly some of my manual playlists will not sync to iPad.
I've tried disabling and enabling iTunes Match on my iPad but with no luck.
    Any hints or help?
    Thanks.

  • How can i organise my tunes in order of ***most recently added to playlist***. Playlist, NOT library!

    Hi everyone,
this is my first ever post on a dicusion board so lets see...
i would like to know how to, if it is possible... to organise my songs of a playlist to show my most recently added songs (to my playlist, not library) at the top and so on.
all of my music has been on the mac for a while so it orders is on date added to LIRBRARY and not when i added it to my playlist.
i want to see my recently added songs of my playlist first.
is this possible and if so can someone help me please!
    Thanks
    Mez

    Hi Mez,
Are you talking about a regular playlist, not a smart playlist?
If you drag a song to playlist to add it, the song will be added at the end of the list.
So to reverse the order and have the most recently added song first, just select the playlist and display it in list view. Click the triangle in the header row of the leftmost column showing the numbers and revert the play order.
    have fun

  • [All Platforms][Playlists] Dynamic playlist formed by two or more playlists

Hi, I like to organize my favorite songs mainly in playlists of the same genre. However, if I want at some point to listen to songs of both genres A and B, I need to create a new playlist with all the songs from these two genres, and also keep at least two different lists up to date whenever I need to add or remove any songs. I'd like to create a "dynamic" playlist, defined in terms of other playlists (and possibly some custom songs). For example, I'd like to be able to create a new playlist called "Study" which is formed by any the songs at playlists "Classic" and "Games", plus any other songs specifically added to "Study".

  • Can't add to playlists - "iCloud playlists can only contain songs from your iCloud music library" If you continue, playlist will be removed from iCloud and only be available on this computer

I have just tried to add a track to an existing playlist - and get the following message -  "iCloud playlists canonly contain songs from your iCloud music library" If you continue, playlist will be removed from iCloud andonly be available on this computer".  I have tried dragging and dropping, right clicking and adding and pressing the little arrow to add to playlist and all tell me that I cannot do this.  What's that all about?  I am not signed up to iTunes match and I wasn't aware that iCloud held music libraries??  Someone please help.  Thanks  SM

I am really surprised that no one has been able to help me with this...    Anyhow, I have still got the propblem - although I am definitely NOT using Match.  I have been adding to existing play, ist by removing it from icloud (dunno how - but it's an option offered when trying to add to playlist).. Now when I sync iphone that's fine - playlists are good - but when syncing ipad 3 - Nope it's not having it.  What to do?

  • Add artwork to playlists or playlist folders?

Doing so seems irrelevant in iTunes, but on my iPhone (and I presume iPods), when selecting a playlist artwork is displayed.
The artwork seems to default to the first song in the playlist. But I want unique art to appear for a given playlist.
I came up with a work around which involves creating a blank, 1-second long track that is alphabetically first in the playlist and has the artwork I desire, but is there a better way?
The other question I have is can I assign artwork to a playlist folder (a collection of playlists). On my iPhone these folders are just blank and my workaround doesn't work because I can't put an individual track in the folder (only within actual playlists). Is this possible?

This was answered in another poast I made. Supposably you must, add the artwork to the end of the movie, then set that as the posterframe. This will then show up as artwork on iTunes.

  • Seperate playlist/side playlist

    Hello,
I was just wondering if there is (or anyone knows of) something similiar to a playlist editor for winamp for itunes. Party shuffle works pretty well, but it misses a feature which I would really like to have.
for instance: you find a cool song which you'd like to hear, so right mouse click on the song "play next in party shuffle". So you listen to this song and while doing this you see another cool song.. you want to hear that to. So once again right mouse click on the song "play next in party shuffle" (not trouble so far). Then (when still listening to the first song) you see another song, and you want to hear it after the last one you've just added to your party shuffle... whoops not possible!
you can add it to partyshuffle but then it will come as last, or you can add as next but you already have a song you want to hear next.
anyone who shares this problem with me? I was thinking of a drag and drop playlist at the side or so, so you can place a song wherever you want when browsing your music.
    thanks in advance!,
    greetings
    Jelle de Rijke (the Netherlands)

only problem is that you can't see your playlist when adding a song
Actually, you can. I never tried it before but your comment made me go look. I just double-clicked on my empty "play" playlist to open it in a new window. I then adjusted the width of the two iTunes windows so I could place them side by side. I can then drag songs from my Library or any other playlist into my "play" playlist and I can see everything that I have added and the order they are in. It is easy enough to reorder or resort the "playlist". I will be opening my "Play" playlist like this from now one because it is more convenient and faster then the way I had been doing it. So, thanx for giving me the idea.

  • ITunes 11 - Dragging unselected playlists to playlist folder?

I created a playlist folder so I can organize my playlists better, but after dragging a few playlists into the folder it begins to drag playlists that I did NOT select. There's nothing wrong with my eyes, I've recreated this problem multiple times and it horrible because you cannot drag playlists back OUT of the folders. Is anyone else experiencing this? I am on a Mac, not Windows btw..

Yes.  iTunes on my Mac has exactly the same problem, and at least one of my friends confirmed that they have observed the problem, too.  I'm guessing that 99% of iTunes users have simply never try to drag-and-drop playlists.  Otherwise, there would be a riot about this.  Moving a *different* playlist than the one that was dragged is quite literally the most egregious UI bug that I have ever seen in professionally-written software.  And it's also one of the most frustrating because I know of no other way to move playlists to a different folder.
But let's be clear about one thing: dragging playlists out to the top level is a different issue that has been an annoyance for years.  Yes, it can be done, but you have to find a spot where the little blue line appears, and the area where that line appear is usually so small that, unless you have the steadiness of an open-heart surgeon in your mouse-hand, the line will probably have disappeared by the time you release the mouse button.

  • Add to playlist from playlists?

There used to be an option to add songs to playlists from existing playlists, I can't see any way to do this in iOS7?
    Has this feature been removed?
I can only see the option to add from Artist, Songs, Albums, Composers.

As far as I can see, this feature has been deleted from iOS7.  Along with the problem of resizing photos, I find this the most annoying bug or deletion.  iOS7 has some interesting new features but overall I think Apple missed the mark with this new version and left some users (including this one) looking elsewhere.

  • BUG: Library- Export Playlist FAILS to export playlist containing Playlist

iTunes 8.0.2 now allows “Playlist Folders” to contain other “Playlists” and be included in a “Playlist”.
To create an env't to demonstrate the BUG create a new playlist called playlistFldrA by selecting File->New Playlist Folder. Move into playlistFldrA and create another File->New Playlist Folder and label it level1. Also create File->New Playlist and label it musicSet1, populate musicSet1 with some songs. Move into level1 and create another File->New Playlist Folder and label it level2. Create File->New Playlist and all it musicSet2, populate musicSet2 with some more songs.
To replicate the BUG select playlistFldrA and use Library->Export Playlist to export the Playlist called playlistFldrA. Being a legitimate playlist created by iTunes, within iTunes, the export Playlist shouldn't be grayed out. The BUG causes the Export Playlist option to be inaccessible. Playlists: musicSet1 within playlistFldrA and musicSet2 within level1 can be exported, but the BUG prevents playlists: playlistFldrA, level1, level2 and the playlists they contain from being exported by the Library->Export Playlist function.
When will this BUG be corrected?
    Thanks,
    Peter

    Katrina,
Thank you for providing the link to the feedback page. Before posting this BUG report I searched apple.com for current instructions on how and where to do so. The feedback page seemed to me to just be just a place to add a feature request to products wish list instead of a place to report a BUG. But I also entered the same BUG description on to that form. Have to wait and see which BUG report apple support acts upon first.
    Thanks again,
    Peter
