Smart Playlist "recently added" issues

Hey, I added a new smart playlist on my ipod touch and instead of adding the most recent 50 songs i've put on my ipod, it put 50 random songs on. Pretty much all All Time Low and Goo Goo Dolls... but yea, if anyone has a fix, it'd be really nice! thanks

Of course it's possible, but you'd have to find something to keep the songs seperated - otherwise the two playlists would just contain the same songs, if you know what I mean.
Hope this helps.

My smart playlist "Recently Added", will not update via Match on my iOS devices

At first I also thought this to be a bug with Match an smart playlists. When I first activated Match on my iPhone the 'recently added' playlist (which holds about 200 songs on my MacBook Pro) was vompletely empty on the phone. But - After buying some music and downloading some additional songs from the cloud - it was slowly beginning to fill up with this newly added music.
So I guess Apple has quietly made smart playlists device-sensitive. 'recently added' actually means 'recently added in the specific device you are using to view this playlist'. In fact this would just be a logic step. But it would be great if Apple had documented this change of behaviour and would give us the option to make playlists device-relative or cloud-relative.

  • Smart Playlist - Recently Added Not Working As Expected

I am attempting to modify my Smart Play list for Recently Added so Videos are not included in the list. I added additional Criteria filtering out Video Kinds that are not "Movies" and "TV Shows". I have indicated that all criteria must be met and have limited the list to 250 selected by Random, though removing this option does not correct the problem. I have also tried removing "match only checked" and "live updates" to no avail.
What are my other options if I can not use "Video Kind" as my filter?

I've gotten good results filtering out my movie content just using this:
    +Kind does not contain Quicktime+
    +Kind does not contain MPEG-4+
...and to get rid of the booklets that come with some iTunes albums:
    +Kind does not contain PDF+

  • Iphone 4 Smart Playlist Recently Added

I have a smartplaylist. It's setup, the only problem I have is that on my iPhone, the last added songs are at the bottom, and I want the newest song added at the top, is there a way to do that?

  • Have lost my playlist "recently added"

Not sure how, but I seemed to have lost the playlist "recently Added" from my left hand side playlists, which was always very useful to me. Any ideas how to get it back?
    Thanks

The default playlists are just Smart Playlists and you can recreate them. In iTunes go to File>New Smart Playlist
    Recently Added:
Match the rule "Date Added">"is in the last">"1">"Days" make the days and the interval to suit yourself, you can have days, weeks or months.
    Check the box "Live Updating"

  • Playlist "Recently Added" is up to down

The playlist "recently added" appears on my iphone 4S up to down (the last song added is at the end of the playlist instead of being the first, as it was before), while on my mac everything  is normal, as usual. What can I do to to solve that problem?

You probably have to do it with a "tap" instead of a click on the iPhone, but on the Mac, you "toggle" the sort order by clicking:
    Descending (Newest to oldest)
    and ascending (Oldest to newest)

  • Has the playlist 'recently added' been removed?

The playlist 'recently added' has disappeared. I was just wondering if this was part of new iTunes or not?
It used to be really handy - especially on iPod/ipad

The link to the service has been removed from the knowledge base. The chat is no longer available due to scaling back.
I am sorry for the inconvenience and I if you have any other questions we will do our best to help.

  • Smart playlist sort order issue

I'm having an issue sorting a smart playlist. I've searched through other questions on here but can't find the identical issue.
I've created a smart playlist that contains the contents of two other smart playlists. I've tried to sort this list by 'name', by clicking on the arrow in the column heading, but the list still leaves the two playlists separately, ie. it sorts each original playlist separately, and then puts one after the other in the play order.
I have other smart playlists constucted in the same way, and have no issues with them, and I can't see what the difference is with this one!
    I'm using 11.0.4.4, on a Windows 7 PC.

I am also having the same problem. Running the newest iTunes and iPhone software my smart playlists are not working correctly. My "Recently Added" is correct in iTunes, and if I look at the playlist on my iPhone info in iTunes it is correct there, but the actual playlist on my iPhone is populated entirely with audiobook files. I have tried deleting and recreating the playlist which gives the same results. I have also specified that items within the playlist should be music files only and still get the same results.
I have a playlist that's Top 50 Most Played that's also not behaving properly (ie correct in iTunes but not on my iPhone).
    Any suggestions?

  • 10.4 Smart Playlist Live Update Issue

    Hi All,
Among the other challenges presented by the 10.4 series of updates (greyed out commands, disabled shortcuts that come and go for no apparent reason) the smart playlist live update function seems to be broken. I do a lot of tagging and use smart playlists to identify tracks that need particular tags. I used to be able to highlight them all, run a script and they'd all get tagged and clear out. Now it breaks down after a couple and grinds to a halt. Works fine if you turn live update off, run the script then turn it back on, but that kind of defeats the purpose right?
On the smart playlist thread, I've also encountered an issue where I can no longer edit a smart playlist: command-I doesn't work and "edit smart playlist" is greyed out in the "file" menu.
Anybody else know what the deal is, or is it just part of iTunes becoming less of a music player because it's "more than a music player?"

Thanks Leonie - issue with editing smart playlists isn't that I don't know how to do it, it's that it periodically isn't an option (i.e. command-I or file menu drop-down are greyed out & doesn't matter what or where you click). I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
Not sure how to tell what command is getting stuck, but it's definitely the interaction between the script and the live update feature because it works perfectly when live update is off (and the script is fairly simple - see below).
Thing is that it's not the smart playlists themselves that aren't working, they are all fine, issue is limited to the live update feature. I use SPs to tag particular things (ie dragging to a playlist causes it to show up in the smart playlist if it's not tagged - so I go to smart playlist & run the script to tag all of them in a batch and once they've got the tag they should disappear from the SP). Here's the script, though, slightly modified for me by the author - it's actually pretty ******* if you want to steal it. He wrote one for removing tags too (all using the grouping section):

  • Video Podcasts Only Listed Under Video Playlist Recently Added

I downloaded Flight of the Conchords video podcasts (awesome show), but they only appear under the recently added menu not under the Video Podcast Menu. Any ideas?
The playback is great, but its a bit of a hassle to go to the recently added list.
    Gracias!

So when you go under Videos, Video Podcasts, it's not there?
Since you downloaded it from iTunes, I wouldn't expect it to act this way. (Podcasts from other sources are often tagged improperly and won't land in the correct folder.)
You could check the tags on it and see if anything looks odd. You might try downloading another video podcast to see how it behaves. It could just be something's not quite right with this one.
Other options are to tell iTunes not to sync it, then sync it back onto the iPod. If all else fails, you may need to Restore the iPod and then resync everthing back onto it.

  • I can no longer sync new music i've downloaded into my iTunes library onto my phone. When i click the playlist "recently added" under my phone on my computer it just shows all the songs greyed out with a dotted circle on the left hand side. Any clue why?

For Example: like this makes no sense. is it because it wasnt purchased directly from itunes? If so thats ridiculous. I've had an iphone for over a year, and a macbook for over 2 years. my phone is completley updated to 7.0.3 and my computer is completley updated with the new itunes 11.1.12 which i thought was supposed to help this problem. I've never had this problem, and its extremely frustrating.

I downloaded one of the file explorer programs (iFunbox in my case) for my PC and deleted everything out of the "Purchases" folder on the phone's "Raw File System". After a couple of syncs with iTunes everything was back to normal. It appears that something was screwed up on the iPhone side that iTunes couldn't sort out. I don't think anything could sync from iTunes to the phone, not just the greyed out items.
This is why resetting and restoring the iPhone also works for a lot of people. It's overkill though, deletes your app data, and just wastes your time setting everything back up after the restore. Better to use the surgical approach of a file system explorer program on your PC to fix what appears to be a mundane data corruption issue.

  • I accidently deleted my "recently added" playlist. how do I get it back?

I'm very new to itunes and having trouble getting the hang of it.
I was trying to clean up some playlist files and was attempting to delete songs I didn't want or need. I hit shift-delete and all of sudden EVERYTHING disappeared. the songs I had purchased... stuff I had recently uploaded... everything.
I went to the recycle bin and hit "restore" in the hopes that things would come back, but no luck.
I was able to search my computer and get the songs I needed back, but it was quite frustrating. in addition, one of the things that disappeared that I wasn't able to retrieve was the "recently added" playlist, which was actually quite helpful to me.
I attempted to upload a new CD to see if it would recreate the "recently added" list, but no luck.
how do I get that back and make sure that future uploads are automatically saved to that playlist?
thanks in advance for any help.
