Smart quotes' substitution not working in Pages 5.2.2.

I've got Pages 5.2.2. and I can't substitute smart quotes using the substitution tool. I can only do it 1 by 1.
Neither "replace all" or "replace in selection" seem to work.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Yes, this is dysfunctional. No difference whether Smart Quotes enabled on this panel and/or in the System Preferences > Keyboard > Text panel. Another fine example of write/modify code without adequate testing.
If you also happen to have Pages 09 v4.n in your /Applications/iWork '09 folder, use that after exporting the Pages v5.2.2 content as Pages '09.

I'm wondering whether I shouldn't go back to the previous version of Pages where everything seemed to work, including auto capitalisation.

Pages '08 and '09 are unaware of the Operating System on this point.
You get the described characters because the app is running in German.
At this time, you
may just disable the quotes substitution feature.
Uncheck the box which is checked here.
I will search in the app resources if I may change the set of substitution quotes.

Some smart album rules not working

At a bit of a loss here - either my upgrade to Mavericks or my upgrade of Aperture to 3.5 has caused my Smart Albums to not work with various EXIF checking rules.
I frequently have rules which check the EXIF tag, Camera Make, and check if it is Canon - this allows me to filter out and focus on my Canon 5D3 photos and not get distracted in relatively pointless editing of iPhone snaps. Unfortunately it doesn't work. Camera Make is Canon returns no matches, Camera Make starts with Canon returns nothing, Camera Make ends with Canon returns nothing.
If I go and look at a photo, I can see the Camera Make exif flag says "Canon" in the field. No spaces at the end or anything silly. It used to work.
Anyone experienced similar? Anyone have solutions?

Hmm, interesting. Given your use of quotes I just tried "Canon" including the double quotes, but that made no difference either.
The EXIF filter is the only rule on the smart album, and while the smart album is set for a single project, there are several hundred photos that should match in it. If I set the smart album to "Library" rather than the project, it still matches none...! Just in case there's some other rule burried away that just isn't displayed, I switched the smart album to "Match Any" rather than "All", and that too returns no photos.

The setting for iPad cover lock/unlock is in settings > general for iPad 2.
The iPad 2 and new iPad if both are using iOS 5.x or later the setting exist in settings > general.
So, if you worked at an apple store I think you should have known that the setting exist.
You are right, a hard reset (force restart) should only be used if iOS device is unresponsive or apps crashing...etc.
But, a simple restart helps as well.

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache.

To clear cache and cookies do the following:
#Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
#Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".

#From the details list, check ''Cache'' and ''Cookies'' and uncheck everything else.

Smart Guides Do Not Work

My smart guides do not work. From the time I loaded CS5 they have not worked. If you go to View > Grids & Guides > the Smart Guides are grayed out.
Then if you go to the Control Panel > View Options, the smart Guides are not grayed out they are checked.
I have looked around and read trying to find out whats up with these guides but have not found anything the works. I have also uninstalled InDesign and reinstalled. This stall did not work.
If anyone has any idea of why or how to get the guides to work that would be great.

Open a Word Processing document, sounds like you have opened a blank Layout template which has absolutely nothing to type into, you need to add Textboxes or Shapes.
The Word Processing templates are labelled in the sidebar of the Template Chooser.

Additionally re my first post above I've tested for smart quotes in MS Word 2008 and Mail 8.1 and they both support smart quotes. Word also converts between quote types.
I've had to create a workaround to get my Pages document showing smart quotes:
I tested smart quote support in Word by pasting a page from the Pages document into Word and then converting the straight quotes to curly quotes. which worked. I then copied that text and pasted it back into a new blank page in Pages, the smart quotes stayed curly. So, I'm about to copy and paste my whole book, 55,000+ words, into Word and convert quotes and then paste it back into Pages.
It seems like the smart quotes issue is Pages 5.5.2 specific and has been for quite some while.

Hello there dear community,
for some reason, Pages will not put quotation marks as I want them to be. As I am from Germany and therefore gernerally write in German, quotation marks are not “ ” but „ ” . I have not figured out how to get Pages to do that. I have already changed spelling language to German, enabled and disabled Smart Quotes, and set the System Preferences to the format I'd like the marks to be, but nothing happens.
What am I doing wrong?

Page numbers not working in pages

Help!
I'm working on a document that will be 100+ pages, printing it double sided to be bound together. I would like to have the pages numbers listed in the footer on the outside of the page as well as some text in the center of the footer. Working with Pages '09 version 4.1.
I have "facing pages" selected. "Left and Right pages different" selected. "Use previous headers and footers" selected. I selected "Insert Auto page numbers" and told it to put them on the outside.
The problem - only some pages have the numbers on the outside like I selected. Pages 1-12 have the page numbers are all left justified. Pages 13-16 are correct. Pages 17-23 have the page numbers are all left justified. So on and so forth. There is no rhyme or reason why some of these are different. I do have different sections in the document - but sometimes it's in the middle of the section that it decides to change the formatting on me.
On top of that, I added the text I wanted in the center. On some pages it's there, others it isn't. And again, no rhyme or reason as to why. Sometimes, the page numbers ARE in the correct place, but the text IS NOT there. Sometimes the page numbers ARE NOT in the correct place, and the text IS there. Leaving me with very few pages that are 100% correct.
The only thing I have going for me at the moment is that every page has a page number on it! I suppose that's something. And I believe I know how to go in and change the footers individually. But, like I said, this will be 100+ pages, I'd really like to just do it once, not individually for each page.

"Toggle Smart Quotes" doesn't work anymore

I'm not sure if this stopped working after I upgraded to Snow Leopard (from Leopard) or if it's been a CS4 issue all along, but hitting Cmd+Opt+Shift+' doesn't toggle smart quotes functionality anymore. This is handy for the odd occasion when I actually want feet and inches marks. I trashed preferences and that didn't fix it.
For what it's worth, this keyboard command is still listed in the Keyboard Shortcuts preferences. It just isn't working.

I've since learned that I can use Ctrl+' and Ctrl+Shift+' (Mac) for the cheapo feet and inches marks. Thanks for the info about prime marks though, I didn't know about them – that they are the "real" feet and inches marks. I also didn't know that Smart Quotes would convert quotes during copy and paste.
I must say that I couldn't find prime marks in the Glyphs palette (which would really benefit from a search tool), at least not for the Myriad Pro font. Still, I will keep it in mind for any "important" applications of the feet and inches marks in future. Most of the time I just want them quickly for unimportant uses, at which time I'll just use Ctrl+'. I guess I'm obsessive enough to avoid quotation marks when I mean feet and inches, but not obsessive enough to dig through the Glyphs palette.
By the way, I scanned through Snow Leopard's keyboard shortcuts preferences and couldn't find a conflicting Cmd+Opt+Shift+' command. It doesn't matter to me anymore though.

Smart Quotes will not turn off

I have Smart Quotes turned off in Smart Punctuation, but they are still curly! I need them straight, how do I get then straight? AI CS5.5, OSX 10.8.2.

I only have CS3 in front of me right now.
Straight quotes and curly quotes are different characters residing in different slots of the font. Toggling on/off the Use Typographer's Quotes setting in Document Setup does not retro-actively update text already set on the page. Try changing the setting and then re-typing the existing characters.
Type>Smart Punctuation is basically a pre-packaged find/replace command. It replaces straight quotes with curly quotes when you tell it to (for either the whole document or just the current selection), but it does not do the opposite. So if you are trying to replace existing curly quotes with straight quotes, you'' need to do your own Find/Replace.
Whichever kind you have the document set to consider default (controlled by the Tyographer's quote setting in Document Setup) is the one that will be keyed into the Find/Replace dialog if you key it in. So you'll need to copy the other kind so that you can paste it into the Find/Replace dialog.

Urgent:- Substitution Not working

I am substituting one VO .
The substitution is working fine in Jdevloper.
We have imported the jpx file and using jdr_utils.printdocument('/oracle/apps/asn/opportunity/server/customizations/site/0/OpportunityQuotesVO') also its displaying the contents of the substitution.
But strangely we see both Vos in About page>BC4J components and the new VO is not used at all.
But in about page when we click on the old view object it displays the new view object's query.
Any input on this will be appreciated.

what do you mean with the new VO is not used at all?
Have you tried to use one of the new VO attributes in your page? Have you got some errors? Have you bounced the server?
In the about page you always see the original VO, but a runtime it'll be substituted by the new one.
Moreover, when you want to refer to one of the new columns you must always refer to the seeded VO, not to the new one.

HP Smart Print button not working

I have IE9 and installed the HP Smart Print with Bing bar from HP download page and activated Smart Print as mentioned on download page. But when I go to a site and click th Smart print button, nothing happens.
I tried it on different sites and it never works. What can be the problem?
