Smart Rewards

So, to join this smart rewards you consent to let them mine data from you with your location, recent searches etc.  They then CHARGE you for the data they use to mine information from you? It sounds like a scam to me. Am I reading something incorrectly?

Can I use my Verizon Smart Rewards toward an iPhone 6 upgrade?

No.  Best you can do is try for auctions on gift cards, or look at the daily deals at 2pm EST for points only cards.

  • Verizon Smart Rewards-Don't fall for it, it's just another way for them to....

let other companies view your usage and demographic information. I have over 12,000 points which are virtually useless because all of the offers shown are for what basically amounts to coupons for a percentage off.  30% off Shoes, a Kate Spade bag, regularly $1 billion dollars, save $1 million, Buy a $100 gift card for $90, etc. What kind of Smart Reward is that? To me a smart reward for my YEARS of loyal patronage would be $1 for every point earned redeemable in a gift card like my credit card company does. In my eyes Verizon owes me a $120 gift card for something fabulous. These Smart Rewards are really  nothing more than a slap in the face, while you allow another company to steal my info. And how much did they pay YOU for the privilege????

If they send you an email promising "Rewards" and entice you into sharing your private information with a third party to get them then you're darned right you deserve something for free. Especially when they tell you , wow, you have 12K points look at all the free stuff you can get and show you pictures of fabulous items. Bottom line is Verizon sucks but not any more or less than any other big company sucks when it comes to stealing your info and handing it out. I was just ****** because I thought for one small moment that, maybe, they really did value my years of patronage. Learned a valuable lesson and didn't want anyone else to have to feel stupid like I did when I fell for their empty promises.

  • "Smart" Rewards - not so Smart I think

So I get the Email, and sign up. My Verizon Smart Rewards You have 33,050 points waiting for you.
Cool. lets go take a look at what I can get.  Unfortunately, it seems Verizon caps you on how many points you can use per item.
    For example:
Beats Studio Over-Ear Headphone (More Colors Available)
    Retail Price:
    $269.95
    Points:
    –5,400
    You Pay:
    $215.95
    (20% Savings)
I have 33,050 points here to use, what gives? From what I can tell 5400 points above equals $54.00
So every 1000 points should equal $100 of actual "credit".  I guess Verizon is not giving me a $3300 shopping spree after all.
Goodbye Verizon, just waiting for the next iPhone to come out so we can switch to T-Mobile.

I've been a Verizon customer for 12 years. I too just started the "Smart" rewards. What a crock! I can buy most of this stuff cheaper off Amazon.com and don't need any points to do it. Verizon is just trying to scam us another way. Guess they haven't had as much luck screwing over people with the "Edge" scam yet. I remember when this company actually cared about making it customers happy but when they forced me off my unlimited data to fund their corporate greed, I lost my "Loyalty" to them. I like you am just waiting to Switch to another carrier.

Yesterday, I used 5000 bonus points to buy 1 extra gb of data.  This hasn't shown up in my account yet. The 5000 points deduction is listed in my Smart Rewards account, but no bonus data.  I thought it was supposed to show up almost immediately.  Will it be credited to my account?

I called Verizon Wireless and they gave me the number: 1-866-962-3713 -- which asks if you're calling about the 1GB rewards offer - if you select this option it says "We are aware of customers having problems with this offer and hope to have it resolved soon. Please check back again." So, will try again in a few days.
The original technical support rep I spoke to from the main line was incredibly helpful (helped me find the 866 number above). A+.

  • Is anyone else having trouble registering for Verizon Smart Rewards?

Over the past two days I have been trying to register for Verizon Smart Rewards.  I have tried doing so in both Safari and Firefox.  I log into my Verizon Account. In notifications section it says I have 24,800 points and click the link to learn more.I click "Register Now" and at this page (My Verizon Online Sign In - Verizon Wireless) I check both boxes "I Agree" and click continue.  I then get a message that says Registration Failed! Please try again later!  Yesterday I called the Verizon support number and they had the same result.  The only advice they had was to keep trying.  Is it broken?  If so, are they fixing it?  If not, is it user error?  Getting very frustrated!!!!!!!

It's a crappy program anyways. Have you tried from your cell phone. It works but you can't do the auctions from your cell phone. When I asked customer service about that they didn't have a real answer. And don't worry with only 24,800 points you won't be able to win most auctions and if you do your points will be gone in one auction. It's a bunch of **.

  • Smart Rewards Nightmare

The Smart rewards program is getting harder and harder to get any kind of benefit from. The auctions changed from 1-2 points per bid to up to 100 points per bid now making auctions cost over 100k when they used to be 3-8k points. I moved my attention to the daily deal instead to use my points for $5-$10 gift cards. Now the site crashes, things disappear from my cart, there is such a small quantity of gift cards and too many members logging in that crash the site. I also called customer service to complain and they initially told me it was my computer, but my computer is great and I have verizon internet as well. After speaking to 3 or 4 supervisors over the last 2 months, they admit there is a problem with their system, and low quantity of cards and they consider it like a game to see if you can get one, because it is only there for A FRACTION OF A SECOND at 2pm. I'm getting so mad about how much of my time they are wasting, and you have to speak to a supervisor to get them to tell you the truth to avoid having to compensate you for the broken system, and misleading benefit. I'm a 10 year verizon customer with 5 lines by the way. Thanks for a huge frustrating hassle verizon.

"Verizon costs more than any other cell service. Sprint is offering to cut your bill in half and pay your termination fees."
They may pay your early term fees, but make sure you are reading the small print.  As per the sprint website: Sprint Half Price Event.: "Discount applies to base monthly service plan only. Exclusions apply and new plan features may not be an exact match."
It only is half off the data (what data package are you on?), which is a savings, but it requires you to go into their easy pay program. That is like the edge. So you would have to pay anywere from $15-25+ per month per phone.
With 5 phones that is $75-125+ per month.  That eats way the discount, plus it could cost more.  Then you would have to figure in the less coverage area.  They also require you to give them your old phone or you would have to pay $200. If you have to cancel them early then you have to pay the amount in full right away (so is alot more then the Early Term Fee.  Scroll to the bottom of the page linked about and see everything there. Plus there is a lot of red tape on their data. To me the value is not there.
You could be paying more and they do not have the smart rewards program.  Even when it works (maybe rare. lol), you do still get the value of it.

  • How to remove NFL APP& Smart Reward Redeem to phone bills

    1. Since Verizon update their software, I really dislike they installed NFL app in my m7, i never watched and interested any sports, waste my battery life and memory, why we can't removed it? Not all people like NFL app...Some app i don't use it..occupied my phone memory..
    2. Smart Reward Program, if we have reward points more than 10,000 pts, Can we redeem to pay for our  monthly phone bills and buy Verizon Devices/Accessories? Or we have to redeem those points to Gift Cards to pay phone bills?
    Thanks

As I wrote in reply to your other post, disable the application.

  • Verizon Smart Rewards Daily Deal Frustration!!

I feel ready to give up on smart rewards.  This program has been nothing much frustration and really a slap in the face to loyal customers. I gave up on auctions a long time ago.  Impossible to win.  So the only thing I've been able to use is the Daily Deal.  Most of the time is crap that I could buy cheaper on Amazon.
However, like today, Verizon will offer up a good gift card.  I was logged into the service right at the second today's card went live.  Click add to cart.  And then the website locks up.  Finally the screen tells me that sorry we are sold out.  So basically daily deals are now like the auctions, it's a race to see who clicks the mouse the fastest?  Cmon Verizon, no other company operates that way.  Everyone who has points should be given the opportunity to purchase your daily deal instead of having to fight the mouse clicks.

I can't get the Daily Deal at all any more at this point.  I made a video (I call it "Verizon Daily Deal Scam" haha) that I am going to upload to YouTube, which shows how the deal is available, but when you click 'Add To Cart', the page just reloads and nothing is actually added to the cart.  I had time to click 'Add' at least 10 times, go to the empty cart to show it on the video, and then go back and click some more, all while the item was still available.  The video makes it totally obvious that it would be impossible to actually get the offer, since it won't ever go into the cart, so the customer could never actually buy it.
I also had a conversation via email about this with the Verizon Rewards Customer Service (I may be playing it a bit fast and loose with the word Service here).  They promised to send "as a courtesy" the card that was offered the day I was complaining about this issue.  They never sent the card.  I called and spoke with Customer Service for the rewards program.  They tell me someone will call me; no one ever does.
This whole program is a huge waste of time.  I would also like to comment that I am totally insulted by the actual NAME of the program, or part of it anyway.  Did anyone notice that Verizon basically forces you to ALSO sign up for something called Verizon Selects when you sign up to use your points in the rewards program?  They tried to write the description in such a way that implies that you are getting something from the program, specifically more targeted marketing.  Really it means that you are agreeing to let Verizon track and then sell ALL of your internet browsing, search terms you type, basically everything you do on the internet.  Here's the thing, as bad as that is, did anyone but me notice that they actually put the word "Selects" in the name of the program?  It's a marketing term.  A "Select" is a criterion that you literally select to include or exclude from a list that you buy of people's information in order to market to them.  Like for example, I would pay ValPak to put my ad in their envelope, but not ALL of the envelopes they send out.  Instead I would "Select" to only be included in envelopes of coupons being mailed to women, ages 25-35, who have children, etc...  These criteria are called selects.  Naming the program that they sneakily sign you up for "Verizon Selects" is just so super insulting it makes me want to call AT&T.

  • Smart rewards errors

My wife and I found 2 SmartRewards local deals for our favorite local Mexican restaurant. One was for a buy one, get one free dinner for 900 points. The other for 20% off the total bill for 2500 points. You have 10 minutes from the time you click on the Redeem Now button to show the offer to the cashier and collect your discount. So we waited until we ordered, ate dinner and went to the checkout register. When we clicked to redeem the free dinner offer, we got an error message. We went back to the offer page and the offer was no longer showing. So we tried to redeem the 20% off offer and got an error on that one too.  When I called Verizon service, I was told that the initial offer was no longer available. (Then why was it on the list when we were standing at the register?) And that there have been many errors with the other online offers. But if I try back in a couple hours I should be able to get the 20% off. What was I supposed to do, sit in the restaurant for 2 hours to see if I could get my discount? I just ended up paying our bill with money that we really didn't have for a dinner out. How can I trust that any of these other deals are going to work the next time I try to use my points????? I really feel that Verizon should take my 900 points and credit my bill for the cost of that dinner, but all I get are apologies. Yeah, I'm sorry too that I tried to use this service.

Hi ebuddneo, I can imagine how frustrating that would have been to not be able to redeem the discount when you needed it the most. We definitely want to make sure that you experience with our Smart Rewards would be a positive, enjoyable experience, where you are able to use these discounts off your favorite places or products. The good news is that you do have the option to print out all of these vouchers online via your My Verizon account and that would just be one way to avoid time limit security measure and print the discount immediately. We would also have a specific support group for our Smart Rewards program and they can be contacted here (866) 962-3713. I would encourage you to reach out to them directly if you have any open questions or concerns pertaining to your rewards. As well you can always reach back out to us here, Facebook and even Twitter for assistance if you need further assistance.

How do I opt out of Verizon Smart Rewards?Verizon Smart Rewards is a free savings program offered to Verizon Wireless customers. Participation is voluntary and your Points will be available to you as long as you're an active Verizon Wireless customer.
To opt out of Verizon Selects, please visit www.vzw.com/verizonselects.

Our website is currently unavailable due to system maintenance.
We apologize for the inconvenience. Please try again later.

I get the same message - however you can go to your rewards.verizonwireless.com profile, and edit your email preferences so you no longer get points summaries or offers. Simply do nothing with the points that you earn, let them sit there.

  • SMART REWARDS ARE SO FRUSTRATING

Smart Rewards Auctions are the Most FRUSTRATING thing. The people who created it, needs to be a customer & try it themselves.
This is not a fair program.  I have tried about 60 auctions & Never won. It has stopped on me being current leader at ZERO and then hold that for about 10 seconds & then change!!!! I only do points only because I have no chance of the ones with a timer. I don't have enough points & its ridiculous they make people click on a auctions for 4 hours!! Seriously please stop they way you do this auction.
I never had a problem/attitude against Verizon till now

Yeah, I have pretty much given up on it and I am one who has always loved online auction sites. Generally if you are smart enough to walk away when some over-eager bidder takes the bidding way too high, you can get some good deals.
But the design of this site is either a reflection of how poor the rest of the Verizon web site design is, which is pretty bad, or it was created specifically to make it hard, if not impossible, for someone to win a bid for less than what they want to allow. The suspicious pause at the end, before a sudden final update of a few bids that knocks you out of the winner slot, makes me think that the game is rigged and so I no longer waste my time with it other than to run a test now and then to see if anything has changed.
Fortunately the last of my contracts with Verizon will expire in January so I can continue to focus on paying off a couple of edge devices and shop around for a company that might have more restricted coverage, but does not feel that the customer is an expendable nuisance.

  • Nothing Smart about the Smart rewards program

What makes this "rewards program" absolutely awful is Verizon has this handy tool that says Each time a unique bid is placed within the final 10 seconds of this auction, the countdown timer will extend.
Sooooo, a bid can go on for hours after the original bid time would have ended. For instance, I was bidding on an Amazon gift card that was supposed to end at 12:30. At that time the bid was around 6000 points. However the timer kept adding 10 seconds because of the "unique bid". It is now after 2:00, the points are over 32,000 and the clock is still ticking. This could have been really fun program, but Verizon is screwing it up with this extended clock.
I'm sure Verizom has a motive for hiking up the points on every item, but I already have a job and don't have time to sit here for hours to bid on items...

You're kidding right, sprmankalel? There is absolutely no reason why they should have the extended timer like this. It completely defeats the purpose and all it does is drains people of their points. Free program of not. I've seen auctions last hours at 9 sec remaining. It's ********.

  • Smart Rewards is just an insult. Why have it at all?

You build these huge amounts of points and they are worthless.  Most of these retail prices you can already beat if you know anything about shopping and sales.  Why complicate things and involve these points?  And 10% off a gift card is only moderately helpful if you were already going to be buying one in the first place. Except that in this case it requires even more planning and time. For one thing you have to have it shipped!  Good grief, you can purchase any gift card you want in 5 minutes at your corner convenience store. Finally the "Local Deals" are the worst joke of all. The one for my local gym offers a free 7-day membership. This same gym literally hands out cards for 7-day trials to anyone who asks, no VW points needed. I have four of these cards in my wallet right now.
I could go on and on, but I will end it here and say that this program is just insulting to anyone who can do the simplest math. I can't help but wonder what it is costing Verizon Wireless to run it, and by extension their customers.

There is no option to turn off the standard lock screen on the Touchpad.
