Smart Shapes corner radius

In Captivat 5.5 it was possible to change the corner radius of a rectangle.
In Captivate 6 is it possible to change the corner radius of a smart shape rectangle or round corner rectangle?

Hello Jay,
You cannot change it for the rectangle, but for the rounded rectangle you'll have to drag the small yellow handle to change the corner radius. I regret that it is no longer possible to type in a number for that radius (asked for it, not listened to) but you can edit with the mouse.
BTW: those yellow handles do appear on a lot of shapes and always are meant to change the look. If you want more editing you can convert each shape to Freeform shape and move the handles as well as the tangent points to create nice Bezier curves. Not every editing functionality is there like in Illustrator/Photoshop.... (asked for a full Pen functionality but rejected feature request) but it is a start. Perhaps I should create some video on YouTube (did you know I started creating them?)

How to make smart shape buttons turn colors after clicking on them?  I am using buttons as links to learning paths and would like users to know which buttons they have allready clicked on when returning to main menu.

This is reply I got from Adobe support.  I will try and let you all know what works best:
Here is the workflow which you can follow to achieve this functionality.
Puspendra: You can choose image button and then choose from the available image buttons, or click on the folder icon when you select the image button and choose from the Gallery of Captivate 6.
Puspendra: Few image buttons change color on hover or onclicked, these effects are predefined in them.
Puspendra: Or you can edit that button on which you are working, from properties Panel.
Puspendra: The Post and Cancel button on this thread seems like a transparent button in Captivate with different fill and stroke color, and transparency is also less, and with corner radius of 0.
Puspendra: You will find these all optionns, when you will click on that button and then click on the properties panel.

  • Change corner radius of rounded rectangles after drawing them

It is great that vector shapes feel even "smarter" in CS6, allowing you to change the stroke width and color after drawing them.
Designing user interfaces, I use a lot of rounded rectangles, and I often have to change the corner radius of a rounded rectangle that I've drawn by a pixel or two. Rather than having to trash the original shape and making a new one, it would be great if you could select the existing rounded rectangle and change the corner radius. I realize that there is a dilema: the user is technically free to move anchor points around and change the object from a rounded rectangle; but Photoshop could basically keep track of whether or not the shape's anchor points have been modified, and whether or not it should still be classified as a rounded rectangle.
Alternatively, this might be an even better solution: rather than having the rounded rectangle be its own shape tool, as it currently is, just give users the rectangle tool, and let them adjust the corner radius of a rectangle at any time in the tool's options bar. The rounded edges of the rectangle would technically not be created with anchor points, it would be more like a smart effect that Photoshop is performing by rounding the edges. Another benefit of this would be that you could free tranform the rectangle, and the rounded corners would not get screwed up as they currently do, because Photoshop knows that this is just a rectangle shape that you always want to have rounded corners on.

Oh thanks for the heads up, I had not seen the Photoshop GetSatisfaction page before. Here is a topic with the idea: http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/it_would_be_good_if_the_roundrect_ve ctor_tool_corner_radius_was_editable_during_and_after_drawing

  • Smart shape callout pointer behavior not that smart

when moving the pointer on rectangular smart shape callout it jumps from one corner to the next.  Why can't I position the pointer at the middle of the box (or anywhere I want it to be)?  Is there a way to do this?

    Hello again
Thanks for the links. I think I sorted it.
Click the slide in question and look at the properties. You have the option "Master Slide Objects on Top" enabled. Something about that is preventing the shape from sensing the rollover.
Click to clear that option and the mouseover should then work.

  • Feature Request: Ability to modify corner radius on boxes after creation

Hi. As an interface designer I often use the rounded box tool to create buttons.
I noticed that you can only select the corner radius at the time the box is created and not modify it thereafter--your only option is to delete the shape and create a new one with the new radius values.
I've tried the selection tools but "corner" radius as an option is nowhere to be seen.
Would be nice to change that as easily as size of fonts to quickly see how different styles would look on a page.
    Cheers.

  • How to scale image, and not scale corner radius

Working on a catalog with image in a .075" corner radius shape. The page are generated by a CMS system so the images are needing to be recropped and scaled. Cannot find a way to scale the image and keeping the rounded corner radius at .075".
    CS5 Mac

Thanks for your reply and desire to help. I realize that but found that you can only adjust width or height and not even scale to get this to work, and other problems with this method.
I am only interested in being able to scale both frame and image simulataneously and holding the corner shape.
For a program called InDesign, the lack of this essential basic feature is NOT DESIGN friendly. Anyone designing a catalog would be wise to avoid using anything else but square corners on images.

  • Smart shape and changing shape, Captivate 8

When capturing a demo, I want the smart shape to be the oval callout, but that is not an option in preferences.Instead I'm getting a cloud callout. Is there a way to set up preferences for the oval callout?
Is it possible to change a cloud callout to a round corner rectangle?

For the automatic shapes during capture, there are only four options, for the rollover shapes you have only three (which can also be used for Assessment and Training simulations). And you are correct (logged the request for it already for CP7, as you can suspect) that there is no Default Capture Shape style as there is a Default Capture Caption style. But normally if you choose the rounded rectangle before capture, it will use that one instead of the cloud shape...I did choose the rounded rectangle right from the start using Preferences before opening any file. And I always get that shape, with the fill and stroke of the Shape style that is within the theme:

  • Rounded rectangle set corner radius in pixels?

If I create a rounded rectangle, is it possible to set a pixel dimension on the corner radius rather than dragging the handle and doing it by eye?
    Thanks

Yes. Change from the default % to px in the Properties panel. You can also enter an exact radius in the Autoshape Properties panel if you use the rounded rectangle auto shape instead of a regular rectangle.

  • Rounded Rectangle Tool Corner Radius setting

  • Adjusting the Corner Radius of a Rounded Rectangle Mask

Rounded rectangle shapes have a controller to adjust their corner radius. Is there a way of adjusting the corner radius of a rounded rectangle mask?

    Hey David,
I had never tried that before, but I looked and tried and "heck"... you can't do it. I could see how I would want to be able to do that, now that you mentioned it.
I cannot understand the inconsistencies in some of the iLife and iWork apps. I still think you should be able to add a "Table" in iWeb, but alas, not even in iWeb'09. Come on Apple. Clean up some of these pretty obvious loose ends.

  • Is it possible to convert text captions to Smart Shapes?

    Hello,
I have a collegue that is using Cp 5 to record software simulations which then need to be brought into Cp6. The problem is that our standards (for software simulations) employ Smart Shape call outs (not the Cp 5.5 and earlier text captions).
Is it possible to convert these text captions into our themed Smart Shapes either automatically inside Captivate 6 or by modifying the content within the CPTx file?
    Thank you,
    Shawn

    Hello Lilybiri,
As always you are awesome! :-)
    >I don't believe an automatic switch will be possible, because smart shapes are totally different objects.
I understand because there are a huge variety of shapes in either format. But I suspect that it should be easy to convert a text caption from any style to one specified smart shape style.
Actually, I am asking before the simulations get started. So nothing has been done yet. I am unsure what you are suggesting I should do in the preferences under Cp 5.5. Are you suggesting that there is a way to convert 'some format' of text callouts, in a Cp5.5 demonstration simulation, to Smart Shapes in Cp6?
    >but since you already have created the simulations, it has to be done manually. Hoping for you that
    >someone has a bright idea, but I do not see one immediately.
For anyone else in this situation, it would be handy to have a solution (rather than painstakingly convert each manually).
I am wondering if this might be a relatively easy search/replace within one of the xml files within the CPTx file. I'm going to look at this tonight.
    Thanks for your assist.

  • How do I add a hover state to a smart shape button on the master slide? CP7

I want to use a button with a hover state on my master slide in CP7. I created a smart shape and checked the box 'use as button.' I then created 3 image files with the "x_up, x_down, x_over' extensions. When I select my smart shape and choose a custom pattern from the fill menu and select my 'x_up' image file, the smart shape does not recognize the hover state. Is there another way to achieve this?
    Thanks!

Thanks I think I get it now after reading your post. Shape buttons can only shrink when they are pressed and nothing else. I was thinking a work round for me would be to use a regular button with the up, over, down state, put this regular button on the first slide and set the timing for 'display for rest of project.' However I don't see this option in the timing panel:
    Is this option somewhere else?
    Thx!

  • Add smart shape in caption on quiz slide

    Hi!
I´m trying to add a smart shape on a question slide in the failure and success captions. However, the shapes aren´t visible and I can´t add audio which is my main purpose. I want the participant to have the option to click on the smart shape when they have answered a question and the success or failure caption shows, and by clicking on the shape the audio plays. Adding smart shapes with this function on other parts of the question slides works fine, I just have problems with the failure and success captions.
    I use Captivate version 8.
    Kind regards, Gunilla

@andreleal Just to rectify: in Captivate 8 you can replace the default captions by default shapes, there is a style for bot in the OSM. When you check this option, it is not only valid for Success/Failure/Hint captions on interactive objects but also on Question slides. I never use captions anymore when I can avoid them.
But I don't think that is what the OP was asking for. He wants to insert a shape in the SHF captions to create a shape button that can trigger an audio clip. Inserting something interactive in a caption has never been possible. And inserting an interactive object on a question slides is only possible, within limits for shape buttons. Maybe some clarification, although not the exact solution in this blog post:

  • Playing Smart Shape Audio Only When Clicked

I’m working on a project in Captivate 6 that has a lot of audio usage. When a slide begins, an audio file plays automatically. There are also two visible buttons per slide, made from smart shapes, that each contain a different audio file. After the learner clicks one of the smart shape buttons, I need it to play an audio file in response to the learner’s answer.
The problem I’m having is that both the slide audio and the two buttons’ audio begin playing concurrently when the slide begins (an auditory triple exposure). Can an advanced action be created to pause the smart shape button audio so it won’t play until the button is clicked?
NOTE: I tried attaching the button audio files to success captions (which are connected to the smart shape buttons) to cause them to wait until clicked before playing. This worked successfully, but this also is problematic. If the second success caption is clicked before the audio from the first one is done playing, they both play at the same time. If there was a way to apply advanced actions to success captions to fix this, that would be great, but, I don’t see any options in the properties window.
Is there a solution to my problem?

@Sreekanth  You have a superfluous command. No need to stop a triggered audio when you want to play another audio clip. Both statements/commands are designed so that you can only play one audio clip at the same time, which means that 'Play Audio...' will automatically stop the former audio clip. However the slide audio can not be stopped with Stop Triggered audio. Did you check your solution? Slide audio can not be controlled separately, you can only mute it with cpCmndMute. But that will mute all audio.
@5deMayo (significance of that nickname is puzzling?) If you want to be able to control the slide audio, you have to get rid of the slide audio and use the Play Audio command on entering the slide. Use that same command to add to the advanced action triggered by the shapes. No need to add the command Stop Triggered Audio, which is only necessary when you want to stop an audio clip without starting another one.

  • Smart Shapes flashing during effects

I have a series of cascading animations of Smart shapes.  Let's call them one through ten. All have alpha 0% to 100% and fly-in effects applied. During the animation of shape one, shape two will appear for a brief flash and then disappear. During the animation of shape two, shape three will appear for a brief flash and then disappear, and so on.  This happens both when I use 'Preview in Browser' and when I publish. I've tried using the 'Fade In Only' transition instead of the alpha effect, with no change.
    Thoughts?

Does it work fine if you only use the Alfa ToFrom Effect with 0 to 100% value?
I still get the flashing problem when I take out the Fly-in effect.
Can you also verify the timing properties for smart shape two, does it extend to a single or multiple slide?
All the animations begin and end within a single slide.
Does it occur when you preview in F4.
      Yes.
It looks like the behavior goes away if I turn off 'Use as Button' so I think I can do a workaround where I do the animation slide with just the dummy Smart Shapes then immediately progress to a slide with the Active buttons.  This does seem to be a glitch, however.
