Smart View gives "Unspecified error"

I've just started working with the latest version, 11.1.2.1.102, under Windows XP and am getting a recurring error whereby every time I attempt an operation that goes to the cube it gives me "Unspecified error" in a popup window instead and the operation is not performed. I happened to stumble across a work-around - go into the Smartview options dialog, re-select the existing value from a drop-down menu (doesn't seem to matter which one) and click OK then re-attempt the cube operation and it seems to work again for a while. I've no idea what is triggering the initial problem but it's a pain and obviously not acceptable to go into production. Anybody else seen this or know what's causing it?

Smart View internal metadata error when creating SmartView reports

I have a really strange problem when trying to use HsGetValue -functions in Smart View (in Excel 2010).
The thing is that I can create a lot of formulas for a sheet that have links to other sheets. However, in some pont (I don't exactly when it happens), I quite randomly get an error in Excel saying "This workbook contains Smart View internal metadata that needs to be repaired. This will automatically be repaired but may take some time". This error box appears a few times, I just click it and then it disappears. Obviously, this is annoying and the Excel is unusable.
Usually it happens when I try to format the sheet or add, e.g., company logo into the sheet, or try to do a bit more difficult linking of the cells.
Any ideas what is going on here? Smart View version is 11.1.2.1.103 (Build 100).

Symptoms
The following message is displayed when opening the Smart View files:
This workbook contains Smart View internal metadata that needs to be repaired. This will automatically be repaired but may take some time.
It may take a long time to open or save the Smart View templates.
Changes
Smart View has been installed by a user different, than the one that is currently logged on the workstation, i.e. service account or installation account.
Cause
When the user accesses Smart View for the first time, on a workstation where the SmartView has been installed by another user, the following registry key will be missing in the user's profile:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Hyperion Solutions\HyperionSmartView\Preferences]
"UseStorageCompression"=hex:01
"SelectedOptionTab"=hex:02
If SmartView is installed by a different user i.e. service account or installation account, then the user profile registry will be missing "UseStorageCompression" and "SelectedOptionTab", resulting in a incorrect saving of file metadata.
Solution
Follow the steps below to automatically create the required registry keys for the current user profile:
1.Open Excel and select Smart View menu.
2.Click the "Options" icon to open the Options window.
3.In the "Advanced" tab, under the "Compatibility" section make sure the "Reduce Excel File Size" option is selected and click OK.
4.The following Windows Registry keys will be created under user profile, enabling proper compression of the metadata:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Hyperion Solutions\HyperionSmartView\Preferences]
"UseStorageCompression"=hex:01
"SelectedOptionTab"=hex:025.Now the user should be able to open the smartview template without the error message.
6.Additionally it is also recommended to select the "Improve Metadata Storage" option in the Smart View Options window which will create the following registry key:

"IgnoreShapes"=hex:01

Smart View Member List Error

I am receiving the following error message when I try to click on the Member Selection icon:
'Selected member list cannot be empty'
Can someone please tell me what's causing this error, and how I can fix it?

Thanks for your answer.
As it turns out, the reason this error occurred is because of the Windows screen configuration. Instead of the Member Selection screen showing up in the active Excel tab, the screen was appearing 'in limbo', and therefore wasn't visible. As a result, the error kept appearing when the Member Selection icon was clicked on repeatedly.

Hyperion Smart View Refresh gives Error

I have installed Smart View version 11.1.2 in my Client's computer having 64 bit Operating System.
Whenever he opens the excel file and click first refresh all the cells having HsGetValue formula shows "Error"
It gives the same Error in every cell even after disconnecting and connecting again.
Please help.

So 11.1.1.3 smart view is not compatible for 11.1.1.3 HFM version for 64 bit OS.

Anyhow, if the "connection panel is blank", is because after installation you must recreate the connection by selecting a url connection using the following sintax:
http://yourservername/hfmofficeprovider/hfmofficeprovider.aspx , the selecting the appropriate HFM Cluster and database, plus user id and password to create the new connection.

Error in Smart view

I also tried to see first hidden row in report and there is Alphabet 'L' is coming again & again so that might be an issue.

The items in the hidden first row should be your POV items. If you toggle the POV toolbar on and off these should display and hide. The question I have is if you are using 11.1.2.1.000 you should not have this first hidden row. What versions are you using for APS/Essbase and Smart View.

Request Timedout error while submitting data in Planning thorugh Smart view

We are getting Request Timed out error when trying to submit data to Planning application using Smart view.
" Cannot connect to the provider because:The request Timed out. Contact your administrator to increase netRetryCount and netRetryInterval." Can someone please tell me where can i increase these time out settings? Can someone give me the link of the document that has detailed steps for this.

Cause
By design, Internet Explorer imposes a time-out limit for the server to return data. Internet Explorer does not wait endlessly for the server to come back with data when the server has a problem.
Smart View communicates via HTTP for which Internet Explorer DLLs are utilized. Smart View users who perform large requests or have a slow network connection can encounter the error, "The request timed out. Contact administrator to increase NetRetryCount and NetRetryInterval."
This error message can be misleading since this error also occurs, if the Internet Explorer time out settings do not cater for larger operations. By default, Internet Explorer has a KeepAliveTimeout value of one minute and an additional limiting factor (ServerInfoTimeout) of two minutes.
Solution

The following steps should be done with the assistance of your Systems Administration group. It is recommended a backup of the registry is done prior to making any modifications.
On the client machine, update/add the following registry keys:
1. Open the Registry, Start -> Run -> Regedit.
2. Locate the following section:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]\
3.Create the following new DWORD keys with decimal values:
ReceiveTimeout=480000
KeepAliveTimeout=180000
ServerInfoTimeout=180000
In this example, the ReceiveTimeout setting is 8 minutes. The KeepAliveTimeout and ServerInfoTimeout settings are 3 minutes. Set these to greater than the longest running request.
4. Restart the machine for the new settings to take effect.

Intermittent errors when retrieving through smart view (11.1.2.5.210) in Oracle 11.1.2.3.500

We are getting the below errors when retrieving from huge smart view sheets for couple of our applications. We have increased the time out settings from the local registry, server registry, mod_wl_ohs file, Web logic console, http.conf, Essbase.properties. Also, increased the JVM from opmn.xml & setCustomParamsAnalyticProviderServices.bat. However we still face the error.
Note: this is an intermittent error and does not happen all the time.

Does the issue common on both Shared and Private connection?

     A)    add a essbase.cfg to the client machine in smartview\bin
             the file will have 3 entries
            NETDELAY 2000
            NETRETRYCOUNT 2000
            NETTCPCONNECTRETRYCOUNT 200
You can give it a try on a single client machine and check is the result is improved.

Smart View error logging in to an application

Hello,
I successfully installed Smart View on a computer with Windows XP SP3. I can connect to the data source, but when I try to connect to an application, after entering the username and password, an error pops up: "Requested operation failed. Error: java.lang.NullPointerException"
Do anybody know the issue?

Are you connecting to a Planning or Essbase datasource connection?
Can you try connecting to other DS connections to see if it works?
If connecting to an Essbase datasource, have you configured your APS correctly?

Smart VIew 11.1.2.1 - Error Message "Invalid Parameter" in a pop up box

Message leaves a bit to be desired.

Refresh works as expected
Verified provsioning and security class access.
2 different users attempted - each in a different AD group - same entity
Works for other users in other divsions - (different entities)- have not ruled out a process management conflict - but would have expected a different error message.

Smart View compile error on startup

Just installed the following components:
- Windows 2008R2
- Office 2010 x64 with SP2
- Smart View 11.1.2.5.210 (x64)
When I start and close Excel I get the following:
Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications
Compile error in hidden module: HsTBarPublic. This error commonly occurs when code is incompatible with the version, platform, or architecture of this application.
The same software version works fine on 32bit versions of Office 2010 + Smart View. Any ideas for troubleshooting 64bit Applications of Office and Smart View?

Had the same problem with conflict between CS6 (Photoshop, Premier, After Effects, etc.] and Net Nanny. Solution was as follows:
1. Log onto Net Nanny Admin Tools
2. Click on Application Exceptions
3. Click Add
4. Browse to folder containing "dynamiclinkmanager.exe". On my computer (Windows 7 Pro) it was located in
     C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\dynamiclink\CS6
     [I do have dynamiclinkmanager.exe elsewhere, but Net Nanny only allows you to identify a given file name once]
5. Select dynamiclinkmanger.exe, Open, OK
6. Repeat steps 3 to 5 but this time for "dynamiclinkmediaserver.exe" which I found in
     C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\dynamiclinkmediaserver\1.0
7. Click OK to accept application exceptions
8. Exit Net Nanny Admin Tools
7. On my computer Photoshop would now load without incident, but if necessary reboot.
NOTE: Once I solved the dynamiclinkmanager stopped problem I then encountered an Adobe Media Core stopped problem when I started After Effects and Premier. To resolve this second problem with Net Nanny I repeated the above steps adding the following application exception:
     "Adobe QT32 Server.exe"
     which I found in
     C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\dynamiclinkmediaserver\1.0
[Again there are multiple copies of "Adobe QT32 Server.exe" but Net Nanny accepts only one, and I selected the one in "Program Files (x86)" and not the ones in "Program Files" because of this is where I also found dynamiclinkmanager.exe. All works fine now.]

While opening the hfm application in workspace.And then when it will open with smart view(1.2.2.300)
select the cell and then click on calculate it is showing error
"Pov selected for this function is invalid"

There used to be an issue in version 11.1.2.1 and oracle suggested to use the latest smart view version.

Essbase connection error via smart view

I'm currently experiencing difficulties connection to essbse via smart view. The application has two databases. All users can connect to one of the databases but not the other one. The essbase server password has not been changed. The version we are currently using is 11.1.1.3
this is the error from the smart view log file.

I got this error while connecting to the Essbase server through EAS Console. To resolve this issue I just removed the Essbase server from the Enterprise view and added the server again. After that I was able to access the Essbase applications.
But I am not sure about smart view. Also make sure that you are using the correct login credentials to login into the server.

Smart View Error "OLAP_error (1020013)..."

Good Morning,
My client has Hyperion version 11, and is leveraging Smart View for reporting. Upon attempting to retrieve a report, the following error message was displayed, and the report was not retrieved:
"OLAP_error (1020013): The resultant report cannot be retrieved. Your report heading cannot be interpreted."
This is the first time this error has been encountered after months of usage. Can someone respond with the root cause and resolution?

I don't remember having encountered this error earlier.
From what you posted, I suppose- You might be having some templates on to which you're retrieving, may be, during month end OR on demand.
The only thing that I could think of is- The recent refreshes of your cube may've included members that are clashing with those custom text(s) on your Smartview report template.
