Smart View Issue.

Hi,
We are facing performance issues with Smart View 9.3.1. It works fine when 1-2 users are connected but when more users connect, the time to connect and query increases substantially. This happens when Excel Add-in and Web Analysis are still running fast enough. We have Essbase Server and Provider Services on the same server. Has anyone faced such an issue? If so, what needs to be done to fix this? Will appreciate any help on this.
Thanks.

The change you made will take not take effect on restarting the service as it appears you modified the startup.bat. The windows service does not call the startup.bat file but rather gets it's settings from the registry.
The command line argument you have also sets 700 Mb as the startup heap size; I would set it to something more reasonable (when you set it in the proper place).. Either 64 Mb or 128 Mb are the common values I have seen.
Finally, unless your users are retrieving some huge spreadsheets, I would doubt the memory heap issue would help your performance. Even then, the difference would not necessary be performance issue, except for the time required to allocate more memory for the heap, but rather a possibility of Out-of-Memory errors.

  • Hyperion Planning Smart View issue with Member Names & Aliases

    Hi,
Im using Smart View "Essbase" Connection to a Hyperion Planning Application, ver 11.1.1.3, however with the essbase connection i am not able to select at the smart view options to see aliases, members or both. I change the setting ( Duplicate member names allowed =true) directly at the properties of the outline in EAS, and now i am able to see the aliases, however if time I refresh using web planning/workspace this setting is undone. Furthermore i dont thing i should use it with planning. Any comments?
    Kind Regards

First of all I hope you have not changed the properties of the outline in EAS for a planning application.
For more information on using aliases in smartview have a read of :- Smartview --- Display options --- to display alias names
Also you will only be able to view member name or aliases not both at the same time.
    Cheers

  • Smart-View Issue  Very urgent

When I select Add-Ins in excel, the hyperion drop-down menu no longer appears.
A custom tool bar appears after selecting in the Add-Ins that contains an icon for hyperion connection manager. However, a run-time error 53 appears after clicking.

SmartView Shows as Custom Toolbar Instead of Hyperion Menu. [ID 814257.1]
Modified 01-APR-2010 Type PROBLEM Status PUBLISHED
    In this Document
    Symptoms
    Cause
    Solution
    Applies to:
    Hyperion Essbase - Version: 9.3.1.2.00 to 9.3.1.3.00 - Release: 9.3 to 9.3
Information in this document applies to any platform.
    Symptoms
The SmartView tool bar shows up as custom toolbar under Add-in instead Hyperion Ribbon and gives the following error message when clicking any button on the toolbar:
    "Microsoft Visual Basic
    Run-time error '53':
    File not found: HsAddin"
If you manually add SmartView it will bring up the connection manager box but Excel crashes when it tries to connect to Essbase.
    Cause
The custom toolbar for SmartView shows up by disabling the SmartView COM Add-in.
    Solution
Steps to enable the SmartView COM to show Hyperion Ribbon and Hyperion Menu correctly.
    1. Go to Microsoft Office button and then click Excel Options.
    2. Click Add-Ins.
    3. Under Manage, click COM Add-in, and then click Go.
    4. Check the SmartView COM Add-in or Click Add button to browse and add SmartView Add-in (HsAddin.dll) if it does not exist.
Result: Hyperion SmartView appears under COM Add-in list with check mark and SmartView ribbon and Menu command under Add-in appear correctly.

  • Issue with smart view add-in in MS word 2003

    Hi,
I have smart view 9314 and office 2003 installed on my machine. I can see hyperion tab in excel and it works fine but i can't see hyperion tab in word or powerpoint. Its not in disabled items for word. I tried to add HsTBar.xla in word using Templates and Add-Ins option but it throws error: Invalid add-in. Any info to resolve the issue would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks.

Office 365 Web Apps are not supported and cannot be supported as there is no platform for add-in's in that environment. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=13602
Most Office 365 uses cases and users end up with Office installed on the desktop and at that point we are talking about normal Office Support. Right now it is up to the Office 365 administrator to determine the version of Office to be used by their 365 users. http://onlinehelp.microsoft.com/en-us/office365-enterprises/ff637585.aspx
Short answer is that Smart View does not support Office 365 Web Apps and there are no plans to support the Web Apps.

  • Issue with Smart View Help Contents using v11.1.2.0.01

    Hi there,
I just installed v11.1.2.0.01 (Build 003) of the Smart View add-in on a MS Windows XP SP2 PC with MS Office 2003 SP3.
Unfortunately, the Help Contents in MS Excel does not seem to work as whenever I select Smart View > Help > Contents, nothing gets displayed. Selecting Smart View > Help > Technical Support and Smart View > Help > EPM Documentation takes me to various links on the www.oracle.com site.
I uninstalled then re-installed this specific version a few times but to no avail. I even checked the contents of each subdirectory where Smart View has been installed but could not find any Help files whatsoever.
    1. Has anyone ever encountered this issue?
    2. If yes, what do I need to do to resolve this issue and get the Smart View Help to be displayed?
    Thanks in advance,
    JBM

Well, reading the documentation about knowing where to find the documentation would have actually helped. At the bottom of page 10 of the Smart View ReadMe document, the following is mentioned under the "Documentation Updates" section:
"For Smart View online help to be available, the Shared Connections URL on the Advanced page of the Options dialog box must contain an EPM Workspace URL."
    This question is now answered.

  • Member Selection issue Smart View 11.1.2.1.102

    Hi there!
I am experiencing an issue with several different cubes when accessing the member selection function in Smart View version 11.1.2.1.102. The issue is isolated to 4 Essbase cubes, but among the 4 are both ASO & BSO.
When I highlight the top, left-most Dimension name and click member selection, NO member names display and the dropdown list is unavailable. As soon as the given Dimension is moved out of the POV, I am able to see the full member list. This also means that the member that has moved into the top, left-most position now has the issue of not being able to select any members (certain dimensions are fine no matter their position).
I am able to move members around by pivoting the dimension and the member selection function behaves normally for some, but the issue pops back up as soon the dimension is moved back to the POV position.
If anyone has run into this issue with SmartView before and has a fix, please let me know. I would be happy to clarify my issue if anyone is unclear on what exactly I am trying to describe.
    Thank you for your time!

This was a bug in 11.1.2.1.102. I'm not sure if it was fixed in 11.1.2.1.103 or 11.1.2.2 (I think 11.1.2.103)
It does not hurt you to upgrade to a higher version of Smart View

  • Access Issue Smart View

    Hi all,
Few user in our company are having hard time opening Data forms in Smart View. When they try to open the forms they get an following Error:
The data Form XXXX Is invalid.Check Log for details. (where XXXX is the name of form).
I have tried following steps to fix the problem but was unable to do it:
Created a Native ID and assigned it similar access as these Users had and was able to open the forms successfully via Smart View using this ID.
The important thing is these users are from differnt groups and have access to different applications but the provision to all the group is same.
There are other User in the same groups who are able to open the forms successfully and have same provision as the users that are facing the issue.
I also tried to pull these users out of the group and provision them with the access they were having from group but after setting this up they had same error while opening the form.
There is no problem with the istallation of Smart View on their local machine as they are able to login via Native User login i created.
It would be great help if anybody could suggest a way to Fix this issue.
    Thanks In advance!!

    Hi Abhishek,
I have not provided the access to the remaining dimensions. That is why it is showing as the No Access.
    Thanks for the help.

    Stally.

  • Performance issues when using Smart View and Excel 2010

Hello, we are experiencing very slow retrieval times when using Smart View and Excel 2010. Currently on v.11.1.3.00 and moved over from Excel 2003 in the last quarter. The same spreadsheets in 2010 (recreated) are running much slower than they used to in 2003 and I was wondering if anyone else out there has experienced similar problems?
It looks like there is some background caching going on as when you copy and paste the contents into a new file and retrieve it is better.....initially. The size of the files are generally less than 2mb and there aren't an expecially large number of subcubes requested so I am at a loss to explain or alleviate the issues.
Any advice / tips on how to optimise the performance would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Nick

    Hi Nick,
Office 2010 (32 bit) only is supported.

  • Planning Data from formatting issue with Smart view in 11.1.2

    Hi,
We are facing one strange issue in Smart view.
We have created a dataform in Planning as follows:
    Columns:
    FY10 FY10 FY10
    Budget Budget Budget
    Jan Feb Mar
But when we open this in Smart view, we are getting the columns as follows:
    FY10
    Budget
    Jan Feb Mar
i.e. year and scenario are spreading across months instead coming at each column level.
We are using Hyperion Planning 11.1.2, Smart View 11.1.2 and Office 2003.
    Please help us.
    Thanks,
    Naveen Suram

Are you saying you want the dimension members FY10 and Budget to be repeated in each column?
I think that can be done for Ad-Hoc Analysis mode, but not where you have opened up a Planning form.
    Cheers

  • 64-bit Smart View + Excel 2010 64-bit Issues - Help Please

    Hello everyone.
First, I am not an "IT guy" so please bare with me as I am not technical but need help.
I am running Windows 7 64-bit Professional and Excel 2010 64-bit. I installed Oracle Smart View for Office, Fusion Edition 64-bit as an add-in within Excel.
I have worked with our "Hyperion Admins" to connect to the right server so that my "private connections" are set correctly (hopefully that makes sense).
However, when I attempt to refresh my Smart View query I end-up retrieving no data. The "refresh" button under "Smart View" in Excel will proceed as a refresh is occurring but then not return data (I know this Smart View template works as I've used it many times on 32-bit Excel).
Our admins have informed me that I cannot use 64-bit Smart View because our "server" is on a 32-bit O/S (or something similar to that). To me, the logic doesn't make sense and I'm hoping that there is a solution the admins are not aware of.
Happy to answer any questions and appreciate any help.

We had a similar experience as JTF, HsGetValues would not work but the AdHoc function worked fine. I put in an SR with Oracle and they refereced the below document. We ended up having IT install 32 bit office on the machine along with 32 bit Smartview (11.1.2.2.300) and now it is working fine.

When using Smart View (SV) with Microsoft Office 2010 SP1 some SV functions do not work or cause Excel application to crash.
    Cause
In 64-bit versions of Excel 2010 SP1, the presence of Smart View functions may cause Excel to terminate abruptly and may prevent Copy Data Point and Paste Data Point functions from working. This has been identified as a defect in Microsoft product.
    Solution
Use the 32-bit version of Smart View until Microsoft issues fix for their 64-bit Office products.

  • Issue while running Smart View

    Hi ,
I am facing issue while running the smart view . Bleow is the error description . Please let me know what might be the possible solution .
Cannot perform cube view operation .OLAP error (1042017) : Network error .
    Thanks & Regards,
    Vijaya

    Vijaya,
Nine times out of ten, when you receive a network error during an Essbase retriaval, your application has crashed. Do the retrieval in Smart View, then check to see if your application is still running in EAS after you get the error message. Then let us know and perhaps we can determine how to keep the application from crashing.
    Hope this helps,

  • Issue importing interactive reporting into excel smart view 9.3

I am new to smart view, and while importing an interactive document from a system9 portal in excel, it always returns "Error Accessing Import Data", after clicking finish in the wizard, even though i was able to preview the document in the previous step. This also happens for a few other colleagues.
Wondering if anyone out there may be able to suggest possible root causes, would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks
    Jeffrey

Copy the HsAddIn.dll, HsSpread.dll, HyperionSmartTag.dll and HsTbar.xla from the Bin folder in the install home of SmartView path : <Drive:>\Oracle\SmartView\Bin (by default)
Paste the files into the Add Ins folder for that user: C:\document and settings\<User>\ApplicationData\Microsoft\AddIns
Click the Start Button, then in the "Start Search" box type CMD but DO NOT press Enter yet.
Program cmd.exe should be found. Right-click on cmd.exe and choose "Run as Administrator" and click "Continue".
In the command line window register each file from point 1 using regsvr32 command:
    regsvr32 C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Microsoft\AddIns\HsAddIn.dll
In the Excel 2007 Go to Tools > AddIns > Browser for HsTbar.xla in the AddIns folder and then click OK.

  • Smart View error logging in to an application

    Hello,
I successfully installed Smart View on a computer with Windows XP SP3. I can connect to the data source, but when I try to connect to an application, after entering the username and password, an error pops up: "Requested operation failed. Error: java.lang.NullPointerException"
    Do anybody know the issue?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Are you connecting to a Planning or Essbase datasource connection?
Can you try connecting to other DS connections to see if it works?
If connecting to an Essbase datasource, have you configured your APS correctly?

  • Not able to export web analysis report to excel smart view from workspace

Not able to export web analysis report to excel smart view from workspace.
Error :Web launch operation has been cancelled.
Can anyone help me to resolve this issues

I realized that I can put a block in WebI and then I can pull that in excel alongside of static header, after putting the question.
My interest to know whether it is by design in XI 3.0 or it is an issue. But by the replies it seems to me like it is by design.
@Anis: I can't go for header as part of Body. Because this report is viewed in Web by many other users. I can't have separate report for Live office, it is a restriction for me. If I use the header in body, it wont look good I guess.

  • "Open in Smart View" option. Hyperion Planning version 11.1.1.3

Failure to download planning form to Smart View using the "Open in Smart View" option. Hyperion Planning version 11.1.1.3. Error message "Web launch operation has been cancelled.
    Your feedback is appreciated.

I understand you are on 11.1.1.3.
However, this is documented in the Known Issues section of the Smart View 11.1.2.1 readme and could be worth a try:
When you try to open a Planning web form in Smart View through Workspace, you may get this error: “Web launch operation has been cancelled.” This happens if Essbase has not been added as a server in Shared Connections. Workaround: Open the Smart View Panel in Smart View and add an Essbase server as described in the online help or "Adding Essbase Servers" in chapter 2 of the Smart View User's Guide.
