Smart View Ranges

We just upgraded to 11.1.1.3, and I'm trying to switch over to SmartView (instead of the excel add in), but how do you do simple things like:
- only retrieve a range (not the whole spreadsheet)?
- Retain formula's on refresh?
It just seems so far from useful I don't understand why anyone can even switch.

The good news is that formula retention is by default. The bad news is I can't figure out how to expand the formula with a drill down.
Ie too can't see how you would retrieve just a range -- it seems to be the whole worksheet.
I think new users will embrace SV. Users who are used to the Classic Add-in are going to have a hard time with the adhoc functionality. The forms, reports, etc. are all pretty nice, but adhoc still isn't at parity. Given the compromises across multiple backends, I wonder if it ever can.
BTW, there are lots of other compelling reasons -- SmartSlices, the controls (I can't remember what they're called), there is new functionality that the add-in is apparently never going to get.

That must be the cause.
I saw a documentation that the smart view 11.1.2.2 is compatible with service provider 11.1.2.X,
but did not mention any loss in functionality for earlier versions like 11.1.2.1.00.
maybe I missed it.

Smart view refresh versus Excel Retrieve

Good morning
we are currently converting our users from the old Excel essbase add-in to the new Smartview. We are having issues with some of our users when converting. Some of them were creating retrieves in their excel tabs, HIGHLIGHTING a section, doing their retrieves. This allowed them to keep any non essbase verbage they had on their spreadsheet (so they would not get the retrieve error messages). It appears with Smartview, that you cannot do this as highlighting a section now tells it you want to log into multiple cubes. Can anyone verify for me that highlighting and retrieving in smartview is no longer allowed?

Prashanth, I think I definitely missed the part where it shows highlight and retrieving (I could see the multi grid, however that is not what highlight and retrieve is)
Consider this scenario
I've an excel sheet which goes from A1:D13 (that is my used range)
Are you saying that I can highlight a1:d6 and perform a retrieve and Smart View will only pull a1:d6? (which is not the case in 11.1.2.2.310, it refreshes full sheet)

Can't load data through smart view (ad hoc analysis)

Hi,
There is EPM application where I want to give ability to planners to load data through smart view (ad hoc analysis). In Shared Services there are four options in
EssbaseCluster-1: Administrator, Create/Delete Application, Server Access, Provisioning Manager. Only Administrator can submit data in smart view (ad-hoc analysis). But I don't want to grant Essbase administrator to planners, I'm just interested to give them ability to load data through ad-hoc analysis. Please suggest!

I take that you refreshed the Planning security, If not refresh the security of those users. Managing Security Filters
Check in EAS whether those filters are created with "Write" permissions.

Oracle Smart View 11.1.2.5.400 prompt bug still not resolved?

Good morning,
in our company we have OBIEE 11.1.1.7.140715 and we are testing Oracle Smart View 11.1.2.5.400 (Build 376) on Excel 2007 32 bit and Excel 2013 64 bit to allow our final users to work more easily.
Unfortunately almost all of our reports contains prompts and when we try to insert an object in the Excel worksheet we see the error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object” and Excel hangs.
Is there any solution?

Smart View error logging in to an application

Hello,
I successfully installed Smart View on a computer with Windows XP SP3. I can connect to the data source, but when I try to connect to an application, after entering the username and password, an error pops up: "Requested operation failed. Error: java.lang.NullPointerException"
Do anybody know the issue?

Are you connecting to a Planning or Essbase datasource connection?
Can you try connecting to other DS connections to see if it works?
If connecting to an Essbase datasource, have you configured your APS correctly?

I realized that I can put a block in WebI and then I can pull that in excel alongside of static header, after putting the question.
My interest to know whether it is by design in XI 3.0 or it is an issue. But by the replies it seems to me like it is by design.
@Anis: I can't go for header as part of Body. Because this report is viewed in Web by many other users. I can't have separate report for Live office, it is a restriction for me. If I use the header in body, it wont look good I guess.

Issue with smart view add-in in MS word 2003

Hi,
I have smart view 9314 and office 2003 installed on my machine. I can see hyperion tab in excel and it works fine but i can't see hyperion tab in word or powerpoint. Its not in disabled items for word. I tried to add HsTBar.xla in word using Templates and Add-Ins option but it throws error: Invalid add-in. Any info to resolve the issue would be highly appreciated.

Office 365 Web Apps are not supported and cannot be supported as there is no platform for add-in's in that environment. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=13602
Most Office 365 uses cases and users end up with Office installed on the desktop and at that point we are talking about normal Office Support. Right now it is up to the Office 365 administrator to determine the version of Office to be used by their 365 users. http://onlinehelp.microsoft.com/en-us/office365-enterprises/ff637585.aspx
Short answer is that Smart View does not support Office 365 Web Apps and there are no plans to support the Web Apps.

Excel 2007 and Smart View 9.3.1.4.041

Dear Experts,
We are now working with Excel 2007 and Smart View 9.3.1.4.041, and encounter the problem that ervery time open the protected excel file there would be the warning message "Drawing Objectes in one or more sheet(s) in the workbook are protected. Please unprotect them and try to save again."
Can any one suggest with;
1. How to set the Excel security settings for Excel 2007 to work for smart view?
2. How to avoid the message mentioned above while working with Excel 2007?
3. How to create a protected Excel file to work with Smart View 9.3.1.4.041 both in Excel 2003 and Excel 2007?

I've experiencied similiar problems, though other users may have found a better solution, I've unlocked the spreadsheat, refreshed, and then relocked via a VBA macro. A button object at the top of the spreadsheet was added to make it easier for the users use as well. If there is a better solution I am very interested in this as well.

How to see Shared Members in Smart View on Ad-hoc Analysis mode

Hi All,
We are using Hyperion Planning v 11.1.1.3.
For the alternate hierarchy we have created shared members. But in Smart View we are unable to see Shared members hierarchy in Ad-hoc analysis mode.
Is this limitation in Hyperion Planning?
Or
Is there any way to see shared members Hierarchy in Smart View in Ad-hoc analysis mode?
It is urgent requirement Please let me know as early as possible

When you say open data form in Ad-hoc mode, can you do that? I think when you select Ad-hoc mode, you are basically connecting to Essbase and therefore need to manually select the members. (of course, I've got a 11.1.2 env right now so not too sure of 11.1.1.3)
I'm able to just go to Member Selection and select whatever hierarchy i want, Shared or Stored, when I'm connected to Essbase. When connecting to Planning, I dont have any option of opening the form as Ad-hoc mode.
Can you see the hierarchy if selecting the members using Essbase connection and not planning?

I understand you are on 11.1.1.3.
However, this is documented in the Known Issues section of the Smart View 11.1.2.1 readme and could be worth a try:
When you try to open a Planning web form in Smart View through Workspace, you may get this error: “Web launch operation has been cancelled.” This happens if Essbase has not been added as a server in Shared Connections. Workaround: Open the Smart View Panel in Smart View and add an Essbase server as described in the online help or "Adding Essbase Servers" in chapter 2 of the Smart View User's Guide.

Attributes Not Working in Smart View

Hi All,
I have an ASO database that has attributes on the Cost Center dimension. In EPMA and in EAS, the attributes are correctly shown. When I pull data in Smart View for a specific cost center, I see data. When I apply the correct attribute, the data comes back as "N/A". I know for a fact that this cost center IS tagged as the attribute I am pulling, but it will not show in Smart View as belonging to that attribute. I am using version 11.1.2.3 and Smart View version 11.1.2.3.000 (Build 157).
Any thoughts?

this is indeed strange. Not a real answer, but here are some suggestions to get more details:
Case sensitive?
What was the attribute of this cost center before?
Try a report on this cost center with all attributes. Does one work?
Try a different front end tool.
From EPMA do a full deploy (make sure you have saved you essbase objects to a save location)
Does it work?
Change the Attribute and deploy it again. Does it work?
If you found it, please update this here, so others will be able to find the solution.

'Smart view' in iTunes

The only thing that is stopping me from switching from WinAmp to iTunes is the 'Smart View' feature in Winamp, which I don't believe is used by many people but which I find extremely useful.
Let me explain:
In Winamp, I have set up some dynamic playlists, that are generated based on a query that extracts Genre information to build the list. I have playlists for chilled, heavy, jazzy, folky, sleepy music etc. and any new music that I add to the library is automatically added to the playlist. For example, the query for my 'Sleepy' music looks like this:
genre = "Classical" OR (artist = "Sigur Rós" AND album !="Von Brigði") OR genre HAS "Ambient" OR genre = "Downtempo" OR artist="Mike Oldfield" OR genre="Trip-Hop"
This means that ANY new music falling into the above categories is automatically added and I rarely have to update the query unless there is a specific artist whose music I would like to add to the list but which does not fall into one of the aforementioned genres. Notice how the query above specifically mentions the album "Von Brigði" - this is an excluder, as I had noticed that tracks from this album were always waking me up when they came on (it's a remix album)
Anyway, the point is, I'm soon to get a Mac and will have to leave Winamp behind. Is there any way of doing a similar thing in iTunes?

Some users not seeing all of a web form in Smart View Excel 11.1.2?

I am on Planning 11.1.2 and I have an end user who, when he opens a web form in Excel using Smart View, he only sees about 1/3 of the entire form. If in the Oracle/Planning web, the form is fine. When he uses my machine, he sees the entire web form in Smart View Excel. Is there a setting on his Excel I need to change?

It's a limitation, if you will, of the way JDeveloper works. It essentially runs your JSF page in order to get the rendering. At design time, the phase listener is obviously messing things up since you're not in a proper secured environment - hence the workaround to bypass your phase listener at design time.

HFM Data Form in Smart View - Improper Suppression

We have several data forms that are opened by a group of controllers every month to load forecast information to HFM. This data form is opened by all of these users in Excel and submitted back to HFM via Smart View.
We have instructed all of the users to turn off ALL suppression while working with the data forms because there are some invalid intersections for ICP based on the input entity. The form is rendering properly for all users but one. When he opens the data form it appears to show all of the lines, but then once it fully loads, it is removing/suppressing one line that is an invalid intersection. In checking his Smart View options, I can clearly say that he does not have ANY of the suppression options in use.
Has anyone experienced this issue? Are there any workarounds? Why would this only happen for one user when 10 others have no issue when using the same file/form/options?

If this is only for one user, I doubt something wrong in his profile.
Ask your IT to have his profile recreated to see if the issue disappears.
