Smart way to substitute files in sequence

Editing HDV is much faster on my Apples when I capture my HDV video through Apple Intermediate Codec. However the end stage quality is much higher when I use the native captured HDV. Nice dilemma!
Is it possible to substitute the HDV AIC files with the native captured HDV in a simple way? Then I could have fast editing with high end quality. If someone has the right experience, could the workflow be mentioned? Like the sequence settings needed etc.

Fraid that won't work Shane... the Intermediate codec doesn't retain the timecode from the tapes. Yeah...
This really is a re edit waiting to happen... but might not be too bad if you recapture all the HDV and click on the option to create separate clips... then they should be similar to the original clips.
In the future... there is a fix. Transcode the HDV native to DVCPROHD, using Compressor's Advanced Format Conversion preset. This retains timecode, and it looks better to me than the Intermediate codec, uses about the same file size, and is as fast.

There is a nav bar in the template. Some buttons of the nav bar

changed from time to time. What is the best way to automatically
update the pop-up menu in those templated-generated files, using
template (I tried to define the nav bar as editable region,
modified the pop-ups and saved the template. I got a lots of
unexpected problems, DW8 even crashed), using libray items or
something else? I am a relatively new DW developer. Much appreciate
if someone could help.

to it will propagate automatically to all child pages - are
you not seeing
that happen?

You wouldn't usually want to do that.

You must have made other errors. Doing something like this
would surely not
crash DW.
The only problem with having the navigation in the
non-editable region of
the template is that a change to it will touch *every* file
in the site,
each of which must then be uploaded again. To solve this
problem you can
use server-side includes for the navigation. Then you would
make your
change to the include file, upload it, and all pages would
reflect that
change.

Smart Folders to find files with certain priviledges

How do I set up a smart folder to display files that have only read&write privileges within a directory.

You mmight have better success using a standard Finder search. In the Finder press Command-F and then you can apply various filters to isolate files based on kind, name, dates created/modified, and a large number of additional metadata criteria.
If for some reason you can only find files that you have already modified (ie, by searching wiith modification date), then one way to reverse this for a search is to first find these files, then select them all and apply a Finder label to them (ie, "Red") and then perform the search on the same folders again but this time search for all items that are not labeled "Red" and your other items should show up.

I don't think that could work that way... But it is possible to reference others JNLP files inside a JNLP file.
Example in my own jnlp file:

Remember file renaming sequence

Is it possible for LR3 to remember a file naming sequence for a folder. That is, each time I move images to a folder can the rename sequence previously applied to that folder be recalled along with the current sequece number so that additional files can be added?

Look what's the last file's sequence number in that folder and rename new files starting with the next number.
By the way, why do you move files around once they have been injested/imported? I'd take a look at my workflow if that involves moving files into folder along the workflow path.
Also, the very fact of renaming files is a bad idea. The name should be as an identifier: unique and constant over the file's life time.

Yes, in theory re-converting would lessen the quality further. However, I have heard people claim (unsubstantiated) that if you are encoding with the same encoder at the same bit rate, then since it will use the same algorthymn, it won't really change the file. I have absolutely no idea if that is true or not.
But... I figure some slight loss in quality re-encoding is still better quality than a song that only plays half way and then stops, right? I suppose you could always tag those files in the comment section with something like "Re-Encoded" and then later if you gain access to your old CDs, you can then make a Smart Playlist to gather those songs and then re-rip them again from your CDs.

Most people find backing up to CDs or DVDs woefully inadequate with modern media files and library sizes. In addition, when you change the tags on some files then you have to back up the whole thing again to a whole new set of DVDs rather than just update a few files. Definitely get an external drive (it will be cheaper in the long run) and make backing up your iTunes files part of a strategy to back up the whole hard drive.

Any way to have file size included in the first search in finder?

Is it possible to somehow show file sizes when doing a search in finder?
On Panther, it was very helpful to have the file sizes listed. This immediately revealed whether the photoshop files I was looking for were full size or reduced.
But when I run a search in Snow Leopard it only shows name, kind and last opened. Otherwise I have to also add a second search to add in file size.
Any way to have file size included in the first search?

Every file has to be associated with an app. So you can't avoid that. You could look into something like dropbox, where you access the info online, and I believe, download it via the dropbox app then 'send' it to the app that'll read/open it.

I know the iPhone does not support bluetooth (legally), but is there a way I can share files between the phone and a macbook NOT connected to the internet?
What I need to do is the following: I use the phone for work (bad choice, I know...) and need to be able to access e-mail and send files out. I am going to be away for a couple of weeks (I am based in the UK and going to Italy) and was thinking to use the phone for e-mailing (megabucks!!!) and the macbook to do some work that will need to be subsequently e-mailed, but as the iPhone does not support (legally at least) bluetooth, is there a way to load files onto the phone? I mean, it doesn't sound like rocket science.
I have to say, I am overall very disappointed with the iPhone as a tool to work with. Great for games, etc., but not for work. I am really tempted to toss it in the trash (or at least return it where I got it from).
I hope you can give me some good news here...
Besides as a general observation, I have been spending HOURS scouring the internet trying to find solutions to some basic issues I have with the iPhone... A piece of kit that is as expensive as all that should not be so difficult to use especially if all I am trying to get what would be considered a common feature in all bog standard phones, but that's another story... At least I have the digital compass and I can check stocks and shares to make me feel better...

I guess I'm confused then. DocsToGo and AirShare Pro both allow you to set up an adhoc network (direct wifi-based connection between the laptop and your iPhone, no wifi router/cell data connection required). You can then pass the documents back and forth between the two devices. I prefer DocsToGo, because it also allows you to edit/sync the docs back and forth. Is this not what you want to do? You can also email the document from within DocsToGo on the iPhone if desired.
If you want to upload/download using a service like DropBox (which will also require a data connection, either WiFi or cell-based) DocsToGo can access that cloud-based service.
Note that I'm NOT affiliated with DocsToGo, but I did read the instructions to find out all the stuff it can do

So I usually work form one sequence of selects, and then take pieces of those selects on the source monitor side and edit them into the edit sequence on the program monitor side.

Although it is really nice now you can load sequences into the source monitor it would be nice to toggle to that sequence to actaully see the clips in the source monitor sequence, not just have the visuals.
