SmartConnect fails when GPRS access point configur...

I am trying to configure SmartConnect to cycle between a Wi-Fi and a GPRS access point.
The GPRS access point allows only HTTP/HTTPS traffic through a proxy server (this is a limitation of my service package through the mobile operator; direct Internet connectivity is much more expensive).
When using an HTTP application (e.g. Opera, Gmail) directly with the GPRS access point, everything works fine.
However, if I use the application with the SmartConnect access point, the connection fails.
Just for testing, I replaced the GPRS access point with one that allows direct internet connectivity without a proxy server (at a much higher cost) -  everything worked fine.
So, I concluded that this is a bug in SmartConnect - they didn't take into account the fact that the access point may work only through a proxy server, and maybe they do some kind of connectivity check that is not HTTP and that fails. I tried to look everywhere support contact information for Birdstep but couldn't find any.
Has anybody encountered this? Or does anyone have contact information for Birdstep's support? I am guessing the fix probably super-simple.
==============================================
Summary of my settings:
Device: Nokia E51
Access Points under Connection settings:
1 - "Home WLAN" - WiFi, my home WLAN network
2 - "IL Orange WAP" - GPRS with Proxy Server that allows HTTP/HTTPS to the Internet (and unlimited WAP)
3 - "IL Orange Internet" - GPRS without proxy server that allows direct Internet connectivity without limitations
SmartConnect configuration that doesn't work:
    Priority 1: "Home WLAN"
    Priority 2: "IL Orange WAP"
SmartConnect configuration that does work:
    Priority 1: "Home WLAN"
    Priority 2: "IL Orange Internet"
Does SmartConnect perform some connectivity check prior to "releasing" the connection to the applications?
===================================================

Just got this from Birdstep's support:
"SmartConnect is not using the proxy setting of the connection. This is known problem with SmartConnect. Currently there is no fix or workaround for it".
So that seems to be the end of it, for now at least.

    hi guys
I have a wap200 wireless access point configured and connected to the switch 2690 switch on vlan1, when I connect the wireless access points to the switch the port become disabled, is there a way to overcme this problem.
    thank you

    Hi Senzo.
Do you know the reason for the port becoming disabled? Can you run a "show int status err" on the switch and see if it give a reason for the port shutting down?

  • 301 access point configuration

In Nokia manuals I found no information about access point configuration.
In my 301 I have two “path”.
    1). at configuration/data communication/access point.  There I see 10 access point configuration.
2). at configuration/personal configuration.  There I can create detailed “personal” configurations and later can use it as active.
Question #1: what is the priority between 1 and 2? I mean 2 overwrite 1 or this two have coexistence?
Question #2: At personal configuration I can assign a flowing type of “subconfiguration”:  “Web”, “Multimedia”, ” Continuous download”, “Access Point”. What is scope of each subconfiguration? I mean for example “Web” and “Access Point” is not a same?
Question #3: There is any useful manual about 301 access point configuration?
    Thanks for any advice…

    kzsolt wrote:

None. That first path you mentioned, that ‘active access point’ is just for computer tethering …
    kzsolt wrote:

Can be. ‘Access Point’ is the preferred access point which your Nokia uses for all its built-in apps. With ‘Web’ you can override that for HTTP(S) based apps because some operators did have WAP proxies in the past. Nowadays, with modern contracts, you just create one Access Point account, there you specify the APN. And then you create a Web account and leave it at its defaults.
    kzsolt wrote:

Not aware of. This concept was introduced in 2004 and I never met anyone at Nokia who understood that concept. Therefore, Nokia has problems to explain it. Actually, the software engineer who created it in 2003/2004 did not understand it either because, from the user interface, it is not possible to create a WAP proxy for an ‘Access Point’ which left many users in the dark …
Therefore, if you have a question, just ask us, please. Did that help?

  • Wireless Client Authentication issues when roaming Access Points (Local)

I have a Cisco 5508 with Software version 7.4.121.0 and Field Recovery 7.6.101.1.
There are a handful of clients that when roaming between AP's with the same SSID that get an authentication issue and have to restart the wireless to get back on.
    From Cisco ISE
    Event
    5400 Authentication failed
    Failure Reason
11514 Unexpectedly received empty TLS message; treating as a rejection by the client
    Resolution
Ensure that the client's supplicant does not have any known compatibility issues and that it is properly configured. Also ensure that the ISE server certificate is trusted by the client, by configuring the supplicant with the CA certificate that signed the ISE server certificate. It is strongly recommended to not disable the server certificate validation on the client!
    Root cause
While trying to negotiate a TLS handshake with the client, ISE expected to receive a non-empty TLS message or TLS alert message, but instead received an empty TLS message. This could be due to an inconformity in the implementation of the protocol between ISE and the supplicant. For example, it is a known issue that the XP supplicant sends an empty TLS message instead of a non-empty TLS alert message. It might also involve the supplicant not trusting the ISE server certificate for some reason. ISE treated the unexpected message as a sign that the client rejected the tunnel establishment.
I am having a hard time figuring out what is causing this. My assumption is if there were a problem with the Controller or AP configurations then it would happen to everyone. My further assumption is if the client had a problem with their laptop (windows 7) then why does work at other times? So I have checked and the ISE certificate is trusted by client.
Is something happening that the previous access point is holding on to the mac and the return authentication traffic is going to the old AP instead of the new one or something like that which is corrupting the data?
I also had this from Splunk for the same client:
    Mar 5 13:44:51 usstlz-piseps01 CISE_Failed_Attempts 0014809622 1 0 2015-03-05 13:44:51.952 +00:00 0865003824 5435 NOTICE RADIUS: NAS conducted several failed authentications of the same scenario
FailureReason="12929 NAS sends RADIUS accounting update messages too frequently"
Any help on this would be appreciated. These error messages give me an idea but doesn't give me the exact answer to why the problem occurred and what needs to be done to fix it.
    Thanks

  • Nokia Email Access Point Configuration Disappeared

I`ve just upgraded to the new Nokia Email client on my N95-1 (model RM-159). It says it's version 9.04 (21).
Since upgrading, I haven't been able to configure the Access Point to be used by the email app, which used to be under General|Service Info. This is quite important to me, since I only want to let the app work when using WiFi.
Does anyone know what happened, or how can I fix it ?

This works for the E71: for the time being a workaround for the access point problem:
I set my SmartConnect connection (you can only download this from the Download icon on your phone) group as the default APN, I have the client using Wifi if available and the cellular network if not. This MUST be configured at initial setup, ie when you install Nokia Messaging, change it from "default" to the SmartConnect access point group.

  • E71x gprs access point not shown in internet desti...

    Hi All,
I am having problems with gprs in my e71x. It used to work fine earlier but now when on using the web browser it just shows wifi under the internet destinations.
I have gprs configured as an accesspoint inside internet destination and it worked great earlier but now for some reason it is no more visible to any apps.
I tried restoring the phone to factory settings, reformatted it and even reflashed the 3.78 firmware but couldn't fix the problem.
    Help!
    Thanks,
    Smt96

    Thanks for the reply.
I had readded the access points after phone reset, so they are available under internet destination but none of the apps are able to see them.
I also saw 3-4 processes listed under panic tab in KillMe application, not sure if being inside panic tab means that the processes crashed, i hope it's not a hardware related problem.

  • Cisco Access Point Configuration to support 802.11b & 802.11g protocol

How do i Configure access point to support both 802.11b & 802.11g clients on a Cisco 1121G series access point(AIR-AP1121G-A-K9)
    Regards
    Hitesh

    Hi Hitesh,
Check out this excerpt from the 1121g AP Installation guide section on enabling the 802.11b and 802.11g radios.
In Cisco IOS Release 12.3(4)JA and later, the access point radios are disabled by default, and there is no default SSID. You must create an SSID and enable the radios before the access point will allow wireless associations from other devices. These changes to the default configuration improve the security of newly installed access points. Refer to the "Configuring Basic Security Settings" section for instructions on configuring the SSID.
In Cisco IOS Release 12.3(2)JA or earlier, the access point radio is enabled by default, and the default SSID is tsunami.
To enable the radio interfaces, follow these instructions:
Step 1 Use your web-browser to access your access point.
Step 2 When the Summary Status page displays, click Network Interfaces > Radio0-802.11B or Radio0-802.11G and the radio status page displays.
Step 3 Click Settings and the radio settings page displays
Step 4 Click Enable in the Enable Radio field.
    Step 5 Click Apply.
Here is a link to the actual document:

  • Scanning Access Points configured with JAPAN channels - 184,188 etc

    Hi,
I have configured the below mentioned configuration for my Access Point. These wireless networks are not appearing in windows client network list. I have tried explicit scan also. Still it is not showing networks with 184,188 channels. But it is showing all remaining networks.
    Country code: JAPAN
SSID for WLAN 1: Wireless Network1
    WLAN 1 mode: 5 GHz 54Mbps (802.11a)
    WLAN 1 auto channel: Enabled

    WLAN 2 mode: 5 GHz 54Mbps (802.11a)
    WLAN 2 auto channel: Enabled
    WLAN 2 channel: 188 (4940MHz)
I am using CISCO AIRONET 802.11a/b/g WIRELESS ADAPTER. This problem can occur due to the following reasons.
    (1) Do I need to set any region settings at Adapter?
    (2) Does adapter firmware depends upon
country? How do I check the adapter firware?
    (3) Is there anything wrong with adapter vendor driver? Do I need to set anything in driver level for supporting JAPAN channels.
Anyone please help me to identify and resolve the above problem.
    Thanks

Ensure the world mode in the adapter is enabled so that it can scan any of the country channels. Ensure that the Broadcast option is enabled for the WLAN and that the SSID has been enabled on the corresponding Radios of the access point .

What channels are available? The 802.11b standard defines a total of 14 frequency channels. The FCC allows channels 1 through 11 within the U.S.; whereas, most of Europe can use channels 1 through 13. In Japan, you have only one choice: channel 14.
An important concept to note regarding channel assignments is that the channel actually represents the center frequency that the transceiver within the radio and access point uses (e.g., 2.412 GHz for channel 1 and 2.417 GHz for channel 2). There is only 5 MHz separation between the cente frequencies, and an 802.11b signal occupies approximately 30 MHz of the frequency spectrum. The signal falls within about 15 MHz of each side of the center frequency. As a result, an 802.11b signal overlaps with several adjacent channel frequencies. This leaves you with only three channels (channels 1, 6, and 11 for the U.S.) that you can use without causing interference between access points.

  • Changing GPRS access point in midlet???

    Hi there,
Is there any way i can choose the access point of the GPRS connection before my midlet tries to open a connection? This is because some phone operator have blocked any access to outside resources to connect to, For example in UK stupid VODAFONE Live never lets you open a connection trough there gprs connection untill unless you change it manually..
    Any help is highly appreciated,
    Manas

This is too low-level for J2ME AFAICT. If you have Symbian based phone, some native app could be created to change this. Otherwise you'll have to stick with doing this manually.

  • Access points configuration

What is best practise to configure 10 access points? working on project in big warehouse.
Sent from Cisco Technical Support Android App

    Hi,
You can use any option  you like to get the access points to join the WLC.
If the access points are on the same subnet as the WLC then you can stay with basic layer 2 discovery method that what the AP will do is once it gets an IP address if will send a broadcast request on the same subnet to join a WLC and since there is a WLC on the same subnet it will reply back and the AP will be able to join the WLC.
If the access points are on a different subnet then the WLC you need to use a layer 3 discovery method so that the AP can learn the IP address of the WLC that is on a different subnet and send a unicast join request to the specifc IP address.
The options would be option 43 or DNS lockup.
    DNS option.

  • Report on Airport Utility when connecting Access Points to Airport Extreme

I have a plan to upgrade my Access Points for a better bandwidth of speed rate of wireless connection in my local connection.
There are the lasted model of Airport Extreme, and 2* Airport Express. Both of the Airport Express are connecting to Extreme by CAT5E.
The speed transfer will always be limited at 100Mbps, due to the limitation of Ethernet port in Airport Express.
The question is, if I replace Airport Express with other brands that support up to 600Mbps with USB support for printer, what would it be reported in Airport Utility.
Would I still be able to manage as an Acces Point through the Utility, and use it for printing server.

Mmmm, if you replace those expresses with 3'rd party routers, you may run into some issues there.

  • Cisco Aironet 1240 AG Access Point - configure Mac Address using Telnet

    Hi there,
I’ve got a problem hopefully someone can help me with. I have the above mentioned AP and it is configured, working well and providing wireless access to several laptops on our domain.
The thing is I can’t get access to the web-based interface to add new laptops Mac addresses to the AP as I currently have them secured with local list Mac address authentication but my user name and password when entered in the web browser login dialog box won’t allow me in although strangely it does allow me to login using the same credentials when I telnet into the AP.
Does anyone know why I can’t get logged in using the web interface even though the user name and password does appear to be correct as I can telnet in? Also if you have any suggestions how I could sort this without having to perform the password recovery procedure, as I don’t want all the config on the AP wiped and want to avoid having the set the whole thing up again.
As I workaround if anyone knows what the commands are to allow me to add the Mac addresses of the new laptops so they are added to the local list Mac address authentication list so the new laptops are secured that would be great.
    Thanks in anticipation,
    Tony

Your AP is probably configured to use the enable secret as the password. Try entering nothing for the username, and enter your enable secret for the password ('Cisco' by default).
If that doesn't work, post your running-config and we'll be able to see why it's doing that. It's a standard configuration, and no worries because wiping the AP won't be necessary since you can successfully Telnet in.
