SmartScreen Filter in Internet Zone - Use it or not?

The SCM 3.0 recommends that SmartScreen filter be enabled for:
Locked-Down Trusted Sites Zone
Locked-Down Intranet Zone
Locked-Down Internet Zone
Locked-Down Restricted Sites Zone
Locked-Down Local Machine Zone
Local Machine Zone
I do not find a recommendation to enable SmartScreen filter for the Internet zone. Is this an oversight or is there something I am missing?

HTML 5.0 takes some strange turns.  Revives <marquee>, finally supports <embed> but then deprecates <acronym>.  What will the Wiki sites do?
Once IE6 disappears from the scene, <acronym> becomes unnecessary. The correct tag is <abbr>. The problem is that some illiterate person at Microsoft thought acronym was the same as abbreviation. Wrong. All acronyms are abbreviations, but not all abbreviations are acronyms. An acronym is a new word made from the initial letters of existing words, e.g., radar (RAdio Detection And Ranging).
And so the dreaded "blink" continues...
Well, that's part of CSS2.1, not HTML5. The HTML5 draft spec says the <blink> tag is obsolete, and must not be used. Even the CSS2.1 spec gives blink short shrift, saying: "Conforming user agents may simply not blink the text. Note that not blinking the text  is one technique to satisfy  checkpoint 3.3 of WAI-UAAG." (http://www.w3.org/TR/CSS21/text.html#propdef-text-decoration)

  • Cant install QuickTimeInstaller.exe or iTunesSetup.exe and IE9 SmartScreen Filter reports the program is not commonly downloaded and is not signed by its author. I run it anyway, but "is not a valid Win32 application". Tried Firefox

I followed the Article TS1406 (recommended solution) on both a Windows 7 OS and an Apple OS, tried Safari and Firefox, tried using 'Upgrade ITunes' button on my old version of iTunes, then uninstalled ITunes, then QuickTime, now can't install either because I'm getting the same error message when I download and choose Run > 'not a valid Win32 application'. On IE9, the SmartScreen Filter returns a warning that the file could harm my computer because it is not commonly downloaded. I tried downloading it from other internet sources, but that's risky, and anyway, it's still causing the same errors. What else is there to try? If I can't find a solution, I can't use my new Iphone 5

It's still pointing to the installers getting damaged during the downloads.
Perhaps try downloading and saving a copy of the installer to a different PC. (If you're on a 32-bit Windows system, try to download on a different 32-bit Windows system.) Copy the iTunesSetup.exe installer to an external hard-drive, or a large-enough thumb drive or burn it to a CD-R. Carry the installer back to your PC, copy the installer to your hard drive. (Don't run the install from the ExHD, thumb or CD-R.) Start the install by doubleclicking the iTunesSetup.exe file.

  • WAN / Internet application using sockets

I m making an application which will work on Internet / WAN using sockets.
Now when I want to communicate (e.g. sending a string ) from one node to another over the internet using UDP, it is successfully send.
When I do the same using TCP, there's a CONNECTION RESET exception on the SERVER end. (Client gets the stream in this case)
Some of the other important things are.
    - One node is having public IP. (I confirm it by comparing it with www.whatismyip.com)
    - The other node is, I THINK is private IP, (Behind NAT) (I confirm it by comparing it with www.whatismyip.com)
UDP works fine if anyone of them is sender or receiver. (Both can send and receive UDP Packets)
Then why TCP is not working??? theoratically, it should !!!
    Is there any firewall issue???
    Is there any NAT issue???
    Plz Answer !!!

You are quite to build a proxy server :)
Sockets in java are implemented by SocketServer and Socket class in java.net package. Other useful classes for ip address manipulation are InetAddress and InetSocketAddress. I hope this answer to your first question.
To answer to your second question I think the simplest way is to design the program to act as a proxy server. The main reason is due to the fact that browsers or other internet application could interact easyly with a proxy and there are clear specification of about it works.
The concept is that a client application connects (using sockets) to a server program (your proxy) that redirects the request to the real url. Having control of socket streams it could act in some ways to:
    1) allow o deny internet access.
    2) measure time.
    3) filter connection requests to a black listed sites.
It's hard to explain all technical details here... but you can found sorce code of Open Source implementation at http://sourceforge.net/projects/wpg-proxy/ for a HTTP proxy server and http://jsocks.sourceforge.net/ for a socket proxy. You could start from here to implement your own server.

    Hello Everyone.
I teach web design at the high school level and I’m have a little trouble keeping a small group of students focused on their work when myspace, e-mail and youtube are just a click away.
I’m looking for a mac application that will allow my students to use Safari but only surf approved sites. We use OSX 10.4 for the workstations and connect to a 10.4 server. I use workgroup manager to manage their accounts.
Thanks for you help and ideas. Have a great day!

  • GPO for changing privacy settings for Internet Zone

Hi I want to change the privacy setting for the Internet Zone from Medium to Low. Can't seem to find the right location in the GP. Can someone please point me in the right direction.

    Hi,
If we want to change the privacy setting for the Internet Zone from Medium to Low via Group Policy, please navigate to
User Configuration - Windows Settings - Internet Explorer Maintenance – Security
in GPMC. On the right-pane, please double-click Security Zones and Content Ratings. On the dialog box, we should choose "Import the current security zones and privacy settings" under
Security Zones ad Privacy and click Modify Settings
    to modify the level.
The article Ravikumar provided is very useful to us for configuring the settings via Group Policy, please also refer to it.
    Regards,
    Andy
Using IE maintenance is the old way which I don´t recommend when implementing IE9 or newer. I wonder, why there is no way to configure this with traditional GPO?

The worst part is am able to check my mails, able to chat and so on... only thing not able to browse through the browser.  I have tried restore option also.  This is happening with both Wlan and Data con. too
    Please help...

I do not really know much about this kind of problem, but i may be your internet connection.
If you are on your own #G network then:
Go to Settings > then enable "Airplane Mode". Count to 10 and then disable it.
Then wait patiently until you get a good connection and then try again.
If you are on a nearby Wi-Fi connection then:
Go to Settings > Wi-Fi > then disable then enable after counting to 10. Make sure that you are connected and then try again.
If all else fails, then you need to contact your provider for assistance.

I am going on vacation and will have a wifi network, but no internet access. I have tried to display downloaded movies from my ipad purchased on itunes to my apple TV, but get "Unknown Error -3". I can use mirroring, but not show the video. I am signed into the same account on both devices and the movie is downloaded to the ipad. The only issue I can think of is some DRM check, but I am not sure.
Has anyone been able to do this? It would be nice to be able to use my purchased movies on vacation without needing internet.

This was a big advantage of AppleTV1 - generally it did not need internet authorisation for synced material on its internal drive and was great for holiday/vacation.
I tend to use a Mac Mini these days when going away.

How to restart base station from airport utility? I used to be able to do it remotely
I currently use a Mac Pro 10.8.4 and have a time machine for wireless 6.3 (630.34). Sometimes I cannot connect to the internet and use network preferences to diagnose the issue. This results in being told to restart the wireless. The airport utility includes the drop down option of restarting but is not clickable so I can't choose it.
With my prior macbook and same time capsule, etc  if i had problems connecting to the internet I would run network diagnostics to help out. This included clicking on the airport utility ---> base station --> restart. This worked most of the time.
Bottom line, is there something I am missing in not being able to restart the wi-fi remotely? ]
    Thanks in advance

You are likely forgetting a step.
    Open AirPort Utility
Click on the Time Capsule icon
Click Edit in the small window that appears
Now click the Base Station menu.....top of the screen....not the Base Station "tab" in the center of the screen
    Click Restart

  • I cannot open my Hotmail emails from Firefox. I have been on the hotmail Help Forum and they suggest to use Internet Explorer. Does Forefox not support Hotmail now?

    Hi,
I can log into hotmail but cannot open my emails or go to Sent items or anything. I have gone on the Hotmail Help Forum and MANY people are having the same problem. Hotmail say we should use Internet explorer and they do not really answer about using Firefox.
People using Firefox 3 and 4 are having problems.
Also, i downloaded Forefox 4.0.1 and it was not fully compatible with Kaspersky - has this problem also now been resolved?
In summary - is Forfox 4.0.1 NOT comaptible with Hotmail and Kaspersky?

Sorry, I can't help with Hotmail, beyond clearing the cache - I haven't used it for 11 or 12 years now. Surprising that a Firefox 3.6 version would have trouble there, as 3.6 has been around for well over a year and Hotmail problems are usually with a recent release of Firefox.
IMO, if Hotmail support can't help you with Firefox issues on their website and can only recommend using IE, maybe it's time to change web mail service providers. My advice is to signup with a different web mail service, one that takes Firefox seriously. Then set up forwarding in your Hotmail account to have all your Hotmail emails forwarded to that new account. Then slowly transition your email contacts over to the new email address over time. As long as you log in to Hotmail every month or two, your account there should stay active and emails sent there should get forwarded to the new email account. I have done that three times in the last decade, and the first one I transitioned from was still forwarding email thru the two intermediary accounts to my current account until last summer when that service finally changed owners and they wanted all new accounts set up or transitioned to their new software - which I didn't do - and I hadn't even signed into my account there in over 4 years and "forwarding" was still working.

  • Setting Security in Internet Zone to High affects Trusted Sites

In response to the recent Security Advisory, we recommended our users set the Internet Zone security to High.
However, this is causing our local Intranet site which is in every users Trusted Sites Zone (set at Medium-Low) to not function.
I was under the impression that Trusted Sites are treated different than Internet Sites.
What security settings do they share that would be affected by setting the Internet Zone to High?
    Thank you.
    Jeremy Leigh

    Hi
f12>Console tab, refresh the page to show suppressed error messages, warnings, blocked content warnings.
A 'High' security zone settings is equivalent to the Restricted Zones default setting.
by default Active Scripting, scripting of ActiveX and applets and xss is disabled in the Restricted Zone.... basically domains mapped to the Restricted sites zone will be useless without active scripting.

  • Sharing internet connection using 4200 speedstream with airport express

I have xp windows sp2 loaded on a desktop with ethernet connection to a modem and have a macbook pro laptop using airport express. I have to reset the modem to full bridge mode to access the internet when using airport express wireless connection, this disables the connection to the internet on my desktop ( the error displayed is low conductivity through the modem). To get my desk top to work on the internet I have to reset the modem and set it to optus bridge. This allows access to the internet but disables my airport express connecton.
Is there a way to allow sharing my connection to the internet without reseting the modem.

    G'day mate,
The SpeedStream 4200 supplied to Telstra BigPond customers is a single user device, connect it to a 'Switch' or 'Router' to share the Internet Service or, replace the whole thing with an ADSL2+ Wireless Modem Router and get coverage all over your house.

you will have to configure the express to create a wireless network but you do not need a connection to the internet.
