SmartView working with Essbase: Preserve Formulas

Hi everybody, has anybody achieved to preserve formulas in the same worksheet as one connected to Essbase using Smart View?
The documentation says that "The “Preserve Formula on POV Change” option only applies to data forms in Hyperion Enterprise, Planning, and Financial Management".
I have set options to "Preserve Formula on POV changes" but Im having two main problems:
- Formulas within the same work sheet as retrieved data and its data disappear when Refreshing the cube
- Formulas that reference retrieved data and that are in other worksheets get the cell reference converted to #REF when Refreshing the cube.
I guess that both problems are because this incompatibility between Smart View and Essbase (It should work with Planning and HFM)

But it's a little bit strange because formula and associated data are only removed when i close, save the excel file, open it agan and do a refresh.
Then, once the formula and its data has disappear, if I create the formulas again and i do a refresh, formulas are still there, then if save the file, close it, open, refresh... again disappear

SmartView issue with Excel protected sheets

Hi,
I'm facing an issue working with SmartView and Excel protected sheet.
When a try to refresh data SmartView get error "One or more sheet(s) in the workbook are protected. Unprotect the sheets and try the operation again".
Sheet layout is composed as:
- account in row
- period, scenario and version in column
- other dimension in point of view.
The goal of sheet protection is restrict on Excel side the set of cell available for user input and avoid the user add more account in row.
Is there a workaround to use SmartView work with protected sheet or the only way is unprotect it?
Any suggestion is really appreciated.
The system configuration is:
WindowsXP SP3
Excel 2007
SmartView 11.1.2.1.00

No, sorry Smart View has no access to write to the cell of a protected sheet. If you are skilled in VBA you could write a routine that unprotects your sheet does the SV operation and then re-protects. This may require you to hard code your protection password in code so I am not sure if this will work for you. Excel sheet protection lock the user and programs from updates so there is not much that can be done.

Working with Dates older than 1900-01-01

I'm curious about working with old historical dates. Crystal doesn't seem to like working with them as a valid date as far as displaying and working with them in formulas.
For simplicity, instead of using a database I tried a simple one cell input Excel spreadsheet with a combination of dates in it, some prior to 1900-01-01. The newer dates display fine, the older dates (any 1899 and before) display as blank. As well, they don't return expected results when used in formulas doing < or > comparisons to more current dates.
What's the best work-around if a person should need to create a reports with historical data containing pre-1900 dates?

To clarify, is this issue happening with Excel as a datasource or within Crystal Reports as well? I've found articles specific to Excel where it considers 1900-01-01 as a leap year.
I have also tested this in Crystal Reports by creating a formula:
date(1900/01/01)

Actually my syntax was incorrect. Crystal Reports displays the date correctly with the date formatted as 1900,1,1

Smartview 11.1.2.1 - Compatible with Essbase 9.3.1?

Migrating from 9.3.1 Planning/Essbase to 11.1.2.1 However company wants to run concurrently for a few months. How can users do this with only one version of Smartview installed? Can 11.1.2.1 Smartview work against the 9.3.1 Essbase databases?

I wanted to ask if Smart View/APS 9.x is compatible with Essbase 11.1.1.3. I know that its back compatible but I am not sure if Smart view 9.x can communicate with Essbase 11 engine.
I heard that it should work both ways. 931 APS/SmartView can communicate with 11 Essbase but you need to add the essbase server in APS using the command line utlity.11 APS/SMV can communicate to lower version of Essbase.
Can anybody reflect some light on it, as to what kind of utility is that which we need? Also if you can provide any url for any documentation related to this. should be great.

Essbase Add-In v6.2 not working with Excel 97

I am running client Windows NT 4.0sp6 with Excel 97 and just tried to upgrade the Essbase Excel Add-In to version 6.2.1 from 6.0. The add-in appears to work fine for all Essbase functions except Essbase-Options. When I select Essbase-Options, I immediately get an Excel.exe application error as follows:The instruction at "0x01e412b5" referenced memory at "0x0000003c". The memory could not be read.My upgraded v6.2.1 Application manager appears to run fine. Anybody got any ideas?? According to Hyperion documentation, v6.2.1 works with Excel 97.

I'm using private connection. The error is "Common Provider null datasource error".
I went to Doc 1470962.1 and it says the solution are: Both Essbase and Provider Services must be at least 11.1.1.3.500 or greater.
So, I think I have to patch both Essbase and APS to solve the issue, but I don't know what patches are and what's the impact applying those patches.

How to start working with fresh hyperion essbase 11.1.2.2

I have installed and configured hyperion 11.1.2.2 with below component

Now I want to start working with hyperion Essbase but not getting a proper way to start from where, its totally different from 11.1.3 which I used previously,
So please help me which services to start with sequence and how to login into Essbsae console/studio to create new database with steps

If you want to use the standalone clients then you will need to install them separately, all the clients are available in the clients package which can be downloaded.
It is also possible to use the EAS web console but the port you connect will depend on how you have configured the system, for example
EAS deployed to own managed server - http://<servername>:10080/easconsole/console.html
EAS deployed to one managed server - http://<servername>:9000/easconsole/console.html
or you can use the http server port 19000, 9000 depending on the http server deployed.

Is Hyperion Essbase is working with ODI 11g under different Domain Range?

I installed ODI 11.1.1.3 with IP(172.x.8.21) and Hyperion Essbase (172.x.0.36). With different domain Range ODI(172.x.*8*.21) and Essbase(172.x.*0*.21) so will it work under different IP Domain ranges from 8 to 0?
Cause i was trying to develop Physical Data server for Essbase and i was not able to view Application Schema and other object in drop down list like: Catalog, Database Scheam etc.
Evening i am providing Correct Domain name, port and user name & passowrd. even i tried with providing direct IP address.
Server Details :
1- Hyperion Essbase server Name: Essbaseserver
2- Port: 1423
3- admin
4- xxxxxx
as u know guys Test Connection button is not working for Essbase its only works for RDBMS in ODI.

Yes it works though the dropdown will not be automatically populated and you can't click the test button as that is mainly for technologies that use JDBC, you will need to manually enter the app/db

Yeah, unfortunately I am coming to the same conclusion.
This is the entire response I received for "instructions"
There are two projects: "fire_text_project" and "fire_text_project_plugin". The first once does not require any plugin because one particle effect is pre-rendred. If you have trapcode particular then you can use the second project and modify it.
Finally you can create a realistic fire text in after effects!
It took me a week to do the 3d fire simulation and render out all the 26 letters on fire. This is a very realistic fire thats simulated using advanced 3d software. The video is 621 x 720 px and it is 7 seconds long. All the letters has the color video and the black and white (alpha) video. You can use the alpha matte to create a tranpsarent background for the colored video. That's is how it is done in the two example comps included in the project. You will have to understand that the letters are video so it is not as easy as typing the letters using text tool to edit the text. Open the "1st text Example comp 1" comp and it has marker that explains in detail on how to edit it.
The two included comps are "Example_comp 1" and "Example_comp 2". These are great examples of what you can do with fire text but the possiblity is endless.You can create many interesting comps with these text on fire. Just to let you know the text that is rendered in 3d app is Arial Black.
Think I am going to have no choice but to simply cancel the sale and look for something else.

Doing OBIEE with Essbase as datasource, anybody who has experience?

Hello guys
Does anybody have good experience dealing with essbase data on OBIEE? Essbase doesn't seem to be a relational database like oracle, data are stored as cube. One cube contains dimesion and fact attributes with hierarchical levels defined in essbase.
I don't have experience dealing with these type of scenario, therefore I run into a lot of issues when I try to create report on answers..
Typically, when I apply any conversation functions or "SQL expression" values on date column filters or contents (such as cast(column as date), or filter on current_date on SQL Expressions) and create reports with measures, I get errors: [nQSError: 42043] An external aggregate is found in an outer query block. (HY000)
If create reports only with date column alone with the above applied, I get errors like inconsistent data type or something..
I believe that for some reasons when OBIEE sends the query to essbase and get converted into MDX, something got lost in translations.
With the same environment, I imagine if I were to create some dynamic variables with select statement, it will also not work since there is no "column" and "table" in essbase the same way as in relational database. So how would I define dynamic variables with max sales or something?
So is there any help I can get in terms of dealing with essbase on obiee?

Without access to the rpd you're not going to get far. Yes, you can achieve both things, but it will mean writing MDX and to use MDX in both the filters and the columns is not something I'd recommend since you'll be facing loads of issues.
Date filter:
The "normal" function you're using won't work. That's for sure. You will have to wrap the whole thing into an EVALUATE and write MDX...like the Lag function I mentioned before. If your time dimension is just taken over from Essbase in the normal drag-and-drop way, then it won't be a full "time dimension" anyway.
A column formula along the lines of this:
EVALUATE('[Time Period].[2009-04-15].Lag(7)')
Measure calculation:
Again, without access to the rpd this will be pretty hard to do due to the question where the aggregation actually happens. Venkat wrote about that recently.

Hierarchical attribute dimension with Essbase Studio

Hi everybody,
I need to load product dimension which is organized in a relational parent-child table like this:
(parent_code, member_code, member_alias, brand, consolidation, formula)
Every product has a brand and I need to load brand as attribute dimension. The thing is Brand is not flat but it has its own hierarchy. For Brand I have another relational table where data is organized parent-child like this:
(brand_parent, brand_child, brand_alias).
I need to do this load with Essbase Studio but I do not known how to create the Product hierarchy in cube schema in order to load the hierarchical parent-child attributes. Documentation and tutorials only show examples for flat attributes. I thought of these two ways but not sure if will work:
case 1) Product hierarchy like this:
Parent_code
Member_code
Brand_parent
Brand_child
Member_code
case 2) Product hierarchy like this:
Parent_code
Member_code
Brand_parent
Brand
Member_code
Has anyone had to this? How did you do it?

I've not tried it, but you should be able to build the attribute hierarchy within the product hierarchy. sort of like
Parent Code
---member Code
Brand Parent
---Brand Code
-----Member Code.
A couple of things
1. Remember to create the self join between Parent_code and Member code
2. IF this does not work, I suggest creating either a user defined table or a view that just gives you distinct brand parent and Brand Code. Join the Brand Code to the product table on brand_code = brand code and use that table to build that hierarchy.

Copying from one iphoto library to another/working with multiple libraries

hi-
my current workflow involves having a 'master library' on one of my external HDs where i store ALL of my images (35,000+) and a 'working library' in my macbook pro where i dump most recent pics first. typically i dump to the working library & then about every 3 months, i burn those events onto disc(s) from within iphoto, open my master library and copy from the disc into the master library. then i will seasonally clear the working library out other than a few portfolio items i may want to keep there.
in the past, when i copied onto the disc and then into the master library, the event names and ratings would copy over too (although if i'd keyworded them, that would get screwed up, so i stopped). now it's not working! the correct event names and ratings show up on the disc, but they are not copying into the master library. i believe this is since i upgraded to ilife 09.
any ideas? it is essential to my current workflow to preserve those event names and ratings. i turned 'autosplit' off in preferences. i tried turning it on. anyone else have experience working with more than one library like this?

thanks larry, i'll check it out and let you know if that solves it. should the free version be sufficient? looks like this could be a really big help if it actually works, cuz i would like to create a 3rd and 4th library for other purposes but not if it's just going to make things more of a pain for me.
i assume this should help with the keyword issue i was having before too? (if i keyworded pics in my working library, the keywords on those pics once copied to the master library would be wrong, it would apply other keywords sometimes, most of the time...)

Has anyone not working with .dv files had sound synchronization problems? I'm not exactly sure what the alternatives to DV are, but I think one of them is HD.
The reason for asking this question is to help isolate the nature and cause of a very serious flaw in iMovie '11. In the original release of iMovie '11 (version 9.0) there was a small--but serious--synchronization problem. In the 9.01 there is a large synchronization problem. We know of one person who has not experienced the problem, and he is not working with DV files (media). So we want to find out if anyone who is using something other than .dv files is experiencing a lack of synchronization between sound and picture. Knowing the answer to this will help with figuring out where the cause lies. For the initial iMovie '11 release (9.0), you probably would not notice a problem unless you had very long event-clips, e.g., two hours long. Events get this long if you are transferring from analog 8 mm tapes. Even then, it would have to be in scenes in which the connection between event and sound is obvious, e.g., close ups of people talking. It isn't until the 9.01 release that most people would notice anything. All we need to do is establish one case of a synchronization problem in which the person is using something other than DV.

Keep My Email How Does It Work With Outlook

I have two internet service providers, Verizon and another small local DSL/Phone provider. I have kept the Verizon for several years because neither has very good bandwidth and my household bogs down without 2 mediocre services, and for the email, which I have had for close to 10 years. Right now the Verizon line is not even usable. I had to call India twice and actually did get a person to repair the line 2 times. It worked for three weeks after the line was fixed, now, barely at all. I'm tired of spending $75.00/month for nothing. The support is horrible. The company could care less whether they keep you as a customer.
That being said, I'd like to get rid of it and turn the line over to the other local ISP DSL provider or God Forbid, try Home Fusion, and keep my email alias which I have used forever. I don't really want to hear about how I should have a gmail account or this is my fault for not getting an email address not linked to an ISP. This is what I am working with, and I need to keep the account.
I manage my email locally using Outlook 2010, and I have all of the old email. I sometimes occassionally use the web-based email, but not often.
First, if I buy the domain before I cancel, will I get my emails addressed to the alias [email protected], because none of the parties contacting me have ever addressed anything to the real email name which is a mixture of hard to remember numbers and letters.
Second and in particular reference to Outlook, would I be able to get and send emails from Outlook with the account currently set up for [email protected], or do I have to reconfigure Outlook to treat the name preserved under the domain purchase as a new account, and set up a new account in Outlook for the same email name after I purchase the domain to retain the alias email. In other words can I continue to send and received without any further modification to my existing account as it is now set up in Outlook.
By the way, Verizon has driven me to this. I would be perfectly happy keeping the DSL if it worked, but I can't continue to support a non-working DSL line to the tune of $75.00 (phone line plus dsl service), with such absolutely horrible support. I really would like to try the home fusion service but am not yet convinced I should due to all of the reports about the low caps, phantom data usage, and intermittent service from some.

I was really hoping they would do it that way. I mean why have to create the wheel twice. When they update ACR LR uses it just like Bridge and Photoshop and Elements. And, I do mean uses the ACR plug-in, just copy it to a LR folder and you are updated. Is this what they did? Or, do we have two things to download from Adobe when they add new camera support?
