Smartwatch 3 - Frozen for several hours and unable to reboot

I have just had an uncomfortably close shave with my new Smartwatch SWR50...!
I've had it for 3 weeks (Yes, a Christmas present) and during that time I have had 2 or 3 episodes where it has hung (stops responding and time display is frozen), On these occasions I have always been able to reboot with the power button. Today however it again froze, but this time I was completely unable to reset it - holding the power button down (for ages) had no effect whatsoever. After several hours the frozen screen disappeared (battery gone flat perhaps, but given state of charge should have lasted 2 days more), at which point it responded when plugged into a laptop/charger by showing that I had a flat battery. Some minutes later it powered on again normally.
I am suspicious about the watch face I have been using - it is the 'Speeds Pro' which I find almost ideal, but I am now wondering if it could be this that causes the freezes? On previous occasions when I have rebooted from frozen state it has shown: 'Unfortunately Speeds Pro has stopped responding'. I have now reverted to the basic Sony analogue offering to hopefully get some stability, but really it is too basic for my tastes!
Has anyone else experienced anything similar – can a watch face cause a total system crash/freeze? Is there any other way of doing a reset in such circumstances?

Sorry to hear that you're having issues with your Smartwatch 3.
Hard to say what causes this but an app that's not working properly may cause the watch to freeze so that you need to force a restart/shutdown.
But it's a bit strange that you were unable to force a shutdown by holding the on/off button.That should have worked. If you hold it for a while it should vibrate 3 times and power off. If the issue remains, could you try updating the watch using PC Companion and see if that helps?

    by "repair" I mean I went to the control panel, option - programs and features, and in the list of all my installed programs I selected "Apple Software Update". On top of the screen you find the options Uinstall, Change and Repair. I clicked the repair button and that did the trick. After the repair I could uninstall the program. I also uninstalled iTunes, Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Device Support en Bonjour, thus all Apple programs. Then I installed iTunes 10.5 again and everything went fine.

    I have lost count of the number of posts here, in addition to my direct experience with my clients, where FileVault is discovered to be the main cause of whatever symptoms are being experienced. I refuse to turn it on on any of my systems and will always, always advise against turning it on to anyone who asks me.
    I would recommend that you initially back up all your data to external media (either external hd or DVD-R) and then attempt to turn off FileVault. I purposely used the word attempt because, more often than not, even this can cause issues. If you are unable to turn FileVault off, indeed even if successful, I would recommend that you carry out an Erase and Install using your MacBook Pro's system disks.
    In short, my message is ---- stay away from FileVault.
    If you require to protect your files then the best way to achieve this is via Disk Utility and creating an encryted image. More details here:

  • Disk Utility has been Shrinking disk for several hours....

    I have an external HD (FW800/GUID) that has 2 partitions in it that I'm trying to reduce the size of one of the partitions to make room for a third without deleting anything on the drive. Disk Utility has been 'shrinking disk' for several hours and I'm debating if it's hanging. I see no activity on the drive, so I'm not sure what's going on.
    How long should this typically take to finish?
    the partition in question has about 1.3T of data on it and I'm trying to free up about 300G that's unused.
    Should I be concerned? How long should I let this go before bailing the app?

    What's the chance that the data will be corrupt if I force quit disk utility?
    In the middle of repartitioning that has apparently hung? I would guess it would range somewhere from high to certain. You should immediately use Disk Utility to repair both partitions after force-quitting.

    I hope you're lucky, but I have the feeling you're about to learn your lesson about not having backups in a very severe way. If the drive cannot be repaired at this point, you may need a file recovery utility like [Data Rescue|http://www.prosofteng.com> or [File Salvage|http://subrosasoft.com/OSXSoftware/index.php?mainpage=product_info&productsid=1].
    In the future, you absolutely must have a minimum of two backups (three copies) of any data you can't afford to lose.

  • HT1600 Apple TV update sept 21, 2013. Update seems to be stuck in a loop has been for several hours I have tried unplugging it to try and reset or at least get back to the old version....any other suggestions

    Can not load the Organizer from the icon at the bottom of  Editor screen, from the icon on the MacBook Air dock (OS 10.10.2),  nor from the file in applications located with Finder.
    I have tried without success to access Organizer after turning off and on the scanner, turning off and on the computer, loading a fresh copy of PSE12 from the CD, and restoring default preferences.  I have searched on line for other options but not  found any. 
    Can you help me?
