Smb and share folder

Mac lion how to join the smb(server 2003and 2008)  and share folder for other win7 user pc .

Hello folks!
Today I found out this phenomenom is a Mac OS X bug!
Here is my translated Bug report to Apple:
Today I noticed that the SMB protocol is bad. New created shares and shares on the start up volume disappear in the Finder window.
I deactivated AFP and activated SMB on my iMac (Mac OS X 10.5.4.). Next I created to shares on the start up volume. When I connected to my iMac via my MBP with Mac OS X 10.5.4 all shares appear in the Finder window. By clicking on a share it opens properly but by clicking on the Back button they disappear!
So I hope that Apple will fix this because it is very embarrassing when I say that Mac OS X is better than Windows and my collegue - a Windows user - sees that shares suddenly disappearing!
I wish that Mac OS X has to be the best operating system and Apple really needs to fix that!
Thank you!

  • How to Know who Deleted Your Share Folder Data in Windows Server 2008

    Dears,
I have Windows Server for file server and share folder, I have created some shred folders for our departments, based on their request I put specific names belong to department into share folders those users only has access for the share folder, for some unknown
reason some one has deleted all the data inside share folder in the file server, my question is how can I monitor or know who is deleted the information inside share folder because I have more than one user it has access on the share folder, is there any way
to know that like log files or any other solutions? thanks in advance..
    Thanks.

Auditing access of shared folder will show you : who deleted shared folder data.
You can follow below steps :
Open Group Policy Editor by typing gpedit.msc to Start menu's search field or Run dialog window and hit Enter.
Go to Local Computer Policy > Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies Audit Policy, double click to open Audit Object Access.
Please refer to below links :http://roberttechnicalblog.blogspot.in/2010/02/auditing-shared-folder.html
    And, http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/123362-audit-log-access-shared-folders.html
Meanwhile, you can also have a look at this proficient application(http://www.fileserverauditor.com/) which looks an exact solution to accomplish auditing task in windows server. It will notify you about all
changes made in windows server by sending a customized emails with real time alerts so that you can take required action while need in your working environment.

  • Can I Create A Symbolic Link to folders stored on an SMB Share folder?

    Hello,
I am very new to Unix and was hoping that someone could point me in the right direction with regards to Symbolic links and an SMB share folder ....
Have purchased an ext. LAN Drive enclosure (http://www.macpower.com.tw/products/hdd3/pleiades/pd_usblan) which connects to my wireless router via ethernet like my G5 (main Mac) - our iBook connects via Airport. I have copied all my general documents/files to the SMB share folder on the ext. drive so that I can access them from the G5 and also the iBook.
However I'd also like to be able to store my actual Mail folder (/Users/Mark/Library/Mail/), , Safari folder (/Users/Mark/Library/Safari) + my Address Book and other folders sitting in the Application Support folder on my SMB share so all important docs/folders are in the one place. I've tried storing these folders on the SMB share and putting an Alias to these back in Users/Mark/Library/Mail etc but of course an Alias doesn't work.
Question 1: Can I create a symbolic link to these files if these are stored on an SMB share folder? If so, could you please tell me exactly what I'd need to type into Terminal? My SMB Share path is smb://STORAGE-XXXX/MARK
I have copied my iPhoto library and iTunes library to the SMB share and are working fine.
Question 2: Is it possible/worth attempting to move my whole home folder to the SMB share folder? Ideally, I'd like to be able to access my Mail from the iBook as well. If I could log into either the G5 or the iBook and access my latest Mail, Address Book and other Application Settings, that would be perfect. Would this be possible?
    Thanks
    Mark.
    Dual 1.8GHz G5 (Rev.B), 2Gig RAM, 9600XT   Mac OS X (10.4)

    Dear Mark,
Yes you can. The command to create a link will look something like this:
    $ ln -s thisFolder /Users/mark/thatFolder
I did this while I was hosting a microsoft based game. This put all of the players into a common directory.
SMB just resolved the link and everything worked fine.
However, as I understand it, some other applications do NOT work very well with links. As I have NOT tried it with other applications, I fear I can be of NO help to you in this matter.
The only way to find out which applications work with links is to try them and see what happens.
    Best of luck,
    Kurt

I have 2 X M600 Dell Blades (100 GB local storage and 2 NICs)  and a Single R720 File Server (2.5 TB local SAS storage and 6 NICs).  I´m planning a Lab/developer enrironment using 2 Hyper-V Servers with Failover Cluster and a single File Server putting
all  .VHDs stored on a SMB 3 Share on the File Server.
The ideia is to have a HA solution, live migration, etc, storing the .VHDs onm a SMB 3 share
    \\fileserver\shareforVHDs
It is possible? How Cluster will understand the
\\fileserver\shareforVHDs as a cluster disk and offer HA on it?
Or i´ll have to "re-think" and forget about VHDs on SMb 3 Share and deploy using iSCSI?
Storage Spaces makes difference in this case?

You can do what you want to do just fine. Hyper-V / Windows Server 2012 R2 can use SMB 3.0 share instead of a block storage (iSCSI/FC/etc). See:
    Deploy Hyper-V over SMB
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj134187.aspx
There would be no shared disk and no CSV just SMB 3.0 folder both hypervisor hosts would have access to. Much simplier to use. See:
Hyper-V recommends SMB or CSV ?
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/d6e06d59-bef3-42ba-82f1-5043713b5552/hyperv-recommends-smb-or-csv-
You'll have however a limited solution as your single physical server being a file server would be a single point of failure.
You can use Storage Spaces just fine but you cannot use Clustered Storage Spaces as in this case you'll have to take away your SAS spindles from your R720 box and mount them into SAS JBOD (make sure it's certified). So you get rid of an active components
(CPU, RAM) and keep more robust all-passive SAS JBOD as your physical shared storage. Better then a single Windows-running server but for a true fault tolerance you'll have to have 3 SAS JBODs. Not exactly cheap :) See:

Alternative way would be using Virtual SAN similar to VMware VSAN in this case you can get rid of a physical shared storage @ all and use cheap high capacity SATA spindles (and SATA SSDs!) instead of an expensive SAS.
    Hope this helped :)
StarWind VSAN [Virtual SAN] clusters Hyper-V without SAS, Fibre Channel, SMB 3.0 or iSCSI, uses Ethernet to mirror internally mounted SATA disks between hosts.

  • SMB File Share Storage Failover Cluster "path is not valid folder path"

I am having an issue that I am scratching my head over. So I have setup a 3 node Hyper-V host cluster that I am attempting to use SMB File Share storage for the shared storage medium. I have been trying to migrate a virtual machine from one of the nodes
local storage into the file share using System Center VMM 2012 R2 with UR5 however I keep getting the message "The specified path is not a valid folder path on node2.domain.com" for the storage that VMM automatically selects for placement of files
from the migration. However what is odd is to the same file share for storage I can do a new deployment of a virtual machine to the same cluster with the same shares; I can also delete a virtual machine from the share fine; the file share for the virtual machine
I library I am deploying machines from is the same server as the file shares for the cluster that I am deploying to so maybe that is why that succeeds; if I try to move the recently deployed VM from one file share to another for storage same error comes up.
The three nodes all reference the same file server, which is just one file server for the storage, and the shares were created in VMM and as such the file share permissions were setup by VMM so they should be sufficient. I have also attempted this with both
delegation of CIFS and without through AD (trust to specified computers with CIFS, Hyper-V Replica and Microsoft Virtual Console Service via Kerberos only).
I am stumped as to what to check next or how to get this working and would appreciate any guidance anyone can give towards a resolution for this problem.

    Jeff,
    Thanks for reporting this.
There's an known issue with UR5 that VMM gives wrong error when deploying a HAVM onto a SMB share. In that situation, VMM complains "Invalid folder path".
To confirm you are hitting the same issue, would you kindly let me know:
    1. Are you trying to migrate a HighlyAvailable VM onto the SMB share?
    2. On UI of "Migrate Storage Wizard", if you click "Browse", do you see the target file share showing up in "Select Destination Folder" dialog?
    3. By "the three nodes all reference the same file server", I assume you added the target file share onto the list of File Share Storage thru the cluster's properties UI. If so, please go to the UI and check whether the access status shows
    green there.
    4. By "local storage", do you mean "local disk"? Or a shared LUN from any array? I assume it's not "available storage" or "CSV" of the cluster. Please double confirm.
Note: If we are sure hitting the known issue, I will later re-direct you to a hotfix. But let's make sure it is the issue first.
    Look forward to your reply.

The section directly above is what I need to add, anyone have a clue how to make this work?

Bill:  Can you suggest a site?  I am in the weeds here trying to get this done yesterday.  I have been reading code and trying to figure this out since yesterday morning.  I have to roll out this image to 2 dozen machines and
this is holding us back.  Any idea which site I can post to for help?
The bigger issue is that you have been given the answer to this in many different forms and, because you have no technical background, you fail to see what is being shown to you.  That is why I have repeatedly suggested that you hire a consultant.
The link to the learning material is at the top o this page.  You can also search the web for Windows consultants.
In the learning link you can also look up how to manage files. If, in the beginning you had chosen to use the learning materials you might not be in this bind.
Look up and research the FileSystemObject.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • 10.9.2 Mavericks and can no longer connect to our SMB file share on the network.

Smb was working under 10.9.1. Now  smb and usning the finder I get "connection failed".  Both of my NAS are not out when i am using my mac book pro  thru the wifi connection.    Is any one else have the same problem?

Same story here - smb:// worked under 10.9.1, but the Update 10.9.2 broke it.
    Some facts:
    Mac Book Pro Retina 2012
Network connection is over WLAN (The connection is very stable and no issues else where)
The issue seems to be caused when there are larger files (> 500MB) in the share
smb:// works for shares with lots of folders but only small files in them
smb:// and cifs:// are both almost unusable
smb://  shows a blank screen for ages- Finder will eventually hang up
cifs:// will connect fast (wow!), but the connection is very unstable for larger files
The funny part is, that Mavericks (pre 10.9.2) was the first OS X which fixed most SMB issues of its predecessor. (SMB2 was somwhat slow, but quite usable) Now, I can not really use my Mac to work...
Moral of the story, I think I will switch to Ubuntu 14 when it is released in April - it should support HDPI Displays.

Yes, that is correct. The organizer is just a database, so your photos are wherever you put them intially. Did you import from iphoto? In that case, organizer does make duplicates (to avoid writing into the iphoto library, which would be a Bad Thing to do). If you didn't specify a location, the copies that PSE uses will be inside subfolders in the Adobe folder in your Pictures folder.

  • Weird issues with file share using both SMB and AFP?

I use my Xserve with 10.4 server primarily as a file server (with a huge RAID array attached via Ultra320 SCSI). I've served files from this server over SMB ("Windows" sharing) to both PCs and Macs for a few years now with no big issues. The files are being shared in a collaborative environment with extensive user accounts and ACLs set up.
I would like to turn on AFP for these same file shares, so those accessing with a Mac can have the added benefits of AFP over SMB. However, I've heard some rumors of some complicated issues developing from the use of both AFP and SMB together on the same folders, in a mixed environment.
The rumors I've heard are things that would happen rarely but enough for it to be significant. For example, a file created over SMB and then edited over AFP would have some problems being re-edited over SMB again, due to some complicated feature that the rumor is unable to explain (something with a resource fork or file locking?). Maybe something weird that just involves the Adobe Creative Suite?
Anyway, I figured I'd throw this out there. Anyone who serves files over both protocols to a varied set of computers and applications having weird issues? Or is everything working for you? Thanks in advance.

    re:crop
It's coming in as cropped with no way to fix it that I can see.
Pressing space or opening in preview shows the full image but if it gets anywhere near Photoshop it comes in auto-cropped.
I'm starting to this it's a bug and will be reporting it to Adobe.

  • Removed a share folder and its contents

I inadvertantly removed a share folder how can I restore it and all the documents which I believe were not deleted and must still be on the drive

If you deleted a share, the files are deleted as well.   Only way I know to recover them is to remove the drive from the case and use a Linux data recovery tool.

Is there a way to get an apple mail folder exported to outlook mail folder structure?  I'm using Gmail on my IMAC and have a PC for work.  Want to share folder structure between systems.

Use following steps to import apple mail to outlook:
Choose Mailbox->Export Mailbox, or choose Export Mailbox from the Action pop-up menu
Choose a folder or create a new folder where you want to store the exported mailbox.
Outlook for Mac: Choose File->Import Mailboxes. Select the mail application you want to import messages from.
If it does not work then you should use third party apple mail to pst applications. You can easily search in Google about these applications.
