Smb/cifs file system authentication name TROUBLE!!!!

I have a MacPro inside the domain group with Windows-based machine and Windows Server 2003.
Every time I try to connect to windows machine the window pop up with smb/cifs file system authentication& Where You have to fill in workgroup or domain name, name and password. So workgroup or domain name is ok (correct), the password is that you type every time ( but its ok too), but the NAME is wrong. Every time NAME is the same ( I try to change it every single day). I could find no a single article or help where the system store that NAME
My question is that: How on earth can I change that NAME or where it could be changed, and why some times when I try to connect I instantly get shared folders (on some machines) then on others never and you have to type the NAME and PASSWORD every single time.
Thanks a lot for any help.

Not sure if you noticed this but this is the wrong forum for this issue. You are in the iPhone network section. Perhaps go to the OS X Networking board and try posting again.
As a side note you could try using a program called Supinfo Share Manager which you can get from http://www.labo-apple.com/SupinfoShareManager201.zip
It can store info for favorite smb shares such as sharepoint, username, password and such. Might help.

  • What is SMB/CIFS? Why does window ask for File System Authentication

Set up: G5 dual processor tower w 2.5 GB sdram running OS 10.4.11
Connected to MacBookPro 2.4 GHz IntelCore 2 Duo w 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM running OS 10.5.4
    via Airport.
MacBookPro does not show up on Network from G5.
But G5 tower is connected from MacBookPro.
An alias appears on Network list from G5 with the identity "Mac001B638898Ba8". When it is clicked on to connect a window appears asking to enter the workgroup or domain and user name (both filled in automatically) and a password.
No password I have ever used works when entered in the password box.
What is going on? There is no Win machine anywhere near here that I have knowledge of.
    Thank you.

You did not uninstall the original version and there may be some reference to a DVD based installed stored somewhere. The so-called repair install doesn't work, anyway. uninstall first, then reinstall. You may also need to manually delete the caps.db in C:\Program Files (x86)\common fiels\Adobe\caps. Notee that due to a bug in CS3 you may need to run this twice, that is uninstall, delete the ccaps.db, reinstall, uninstall again without deleting the caps.db, then reinstall a 2nd time or else you may see licensing errors.

  • How to mount a CIFS file system in fstab?[SOLVED]

I want a CIFS share to be auto mounted on linux startup.
If I add a line to /etc/rc.local, it works well:
    mount -t cifs //192.168.0.10/alien /home/alien -o user=alien,passowrd=alien,uid=1000,gid=1000
But, if I append a line to /etc/fstab, it doesn't work:
    //192.168.0.10/alien /home/alien cifs _netdev,users,user=alien,passowrd=alien,uid=1000,gid=1000 0 0
I think may be fstab is before network available. But I am not sure, since I notice some other
linux system has NFS entry in fstab and works well.
    Any ideas?

  • SMB/CIFS file sharing

  • SMB/CIFS message when logging in to LAN/WAN

    Hi all,
My last name changed recently, and our I.T. guy started setting things up on his end to change my e-mail, records, and the like. Now, every time I log on to our Win XP network, I get a prompt from SMB/CIFS File System Authentication to enter my name and password. The name that displays automatically is my 'old' name, and even through I type in my new name and password and click 'Remember this password in my keychain', the same dialog box will come up (with the wrong name) the next time I try to access the network.
Previously all I had to do is double-click on the alias to a drive or folder on the network, and 'boom', I'm in.
Under the Apple menu, I am logged in under the correct new name. All areas that I can find in my system to enter in a user name has my new name. The anomaly only happens when I try to access the network.
    Any clues?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
You can easily verify by yourself that no column AppTime exists in a standard B1 installation (just tested on 2007A SP01 PL6).
You should have a reference to an external database or extension (addon)...
    What addons are you using?

  • SMB/CIFS browsing slow with folders with many files

My NAS (Buffalo Linkstation HG) SMB/CIFS browsing from OSX is slow when a folder has many files in it, with ball spinning for more than 30 seconds before listing folder contents depending on how many files the folder has.
But accessing the same Linkstation from Windows XP is fast. Even Windows XP inside OSX (using Parallels) is fast.
Since the same machine but inside Parallels is fast seems not a network issue to me. Maybe some setting in OSX could help, or some setting in smb.conf inside the Linkstation (I can change it by using Openlink, a non official firmware).
Also, AFP folder browsing is fast, but not using it because the one included with the Linkstation has filename length limitations to be compatible with OS Classic.
Anyone had a similar problem accesing a SMB/CIFS share?
    Thanks.
Macbook (Core 2 Duo)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

There was a suggestion out here recently to disable Bonjour's Name Resolution...but connecting to the remote drive by IP address, instead of name.
    Like so:
Connect by IP address, and it should bypass Bonjour name resolution. Hit command-K, and in the window that pops up type
    afp://<ip-address>
where <ip-address> is the IP of the host you want to connect to. For example, if the IP address of the Aiport basestation hosting the drive is 10.0.0.1, you would type:
    afp://10.0.0.1
This was a long fix for a slightly different problem http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=877397&tstart=0
    Worth a try.
Aso consider if thisis a large folder full of pictures - mac seems to think it needs to generate thumbnails of all those image files...think of the network and CPU time needed for that.

  • How to create a record based on the name of a file in the file-system?

    Hi,
With a lot of pictures I want to have a database to gather some information about these pictures.
First question is how to generate a record based on a file in the file system?
    e.g. the pictures are "c:\fotos\2009\01\disc_001.jpg" to "c:\foto\2009\01\dis_98.jpg" .
now i want to create records with as one of the attributes the name of the picture (not the picture itself). how to create these records (based on the information of the file-ssytem). i.e. the number of records should be the same as the number of pictures.
    any suggestions?
    any reaction will be appreciated.

  • Change ZFS root dataset name for root file system

    Hi all
    A quick one.
I accepted the default ZFS root dataset name for the root file system during Solaris 10 installation.
Can I change it to another name afterward without reinstalling the OS? For example,
    zfs rename rpool/ROOT/s10s_u6wos_07b rpool/ROOT/`hostname`
    zfs rename rpool/ROOT/s10s_u6wos_07b/var rpool/ROOT/`hostname`/var
    Thank you.

Renaming the root pool is not recommended.

  • System Disk Name Change - Restore Old Files?

The name of a friend's main system disk was accidentally changed some time ago. The backup sets from both the old name and new name are still in TM under the same computer name. When we look at the backup sets they appears as (the leading dots are just to show the folder hierarchy since consecutive spaces are deleted):
    Backup.backupsdb
    ..computer_name
    ....2009-01-01-timecode
    ......Macintosh\ HD
    ....2009-06-01-timecode
    ......New\ Disk\ Name
When we go in to TM to restore, we can see the backup sets that match the current disk name but not the ones with the old disk name.
How can we go about restoring files that existed when the disk had the old name? Selecting "Browse Other TM Disks" does not show the backup sets with the old disk name.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

OK, here is the whole story as I understand it (this is a friend's iMac).
The drive was originally named "Machintosh HD". There are backup sets going back to August, 2008 where the only folder under the date folder in Backups.backupdb is named "Machintosh HD".
In late August, 2008, the internal drive was renamed " `1| ". The only folder in the date folders in Backups.backupdb is named " `1| ".
Two weeks ago we installed a new, larger internal HD. At that time, we discovered the problem with the drive name and renamed it "Machintosh HD". We are now able to restore from any backup where the folder in the date folders in Backups.backupdb is named "Machintosh HD".
For the time period from late August, 2008 - August, 2009 TM greys out the dates for the backup sets. It will not allow us to restore from them.
Prior to renaming the " `1| " drive, we could restore from any backup set between late August, 2008 - August 2009. We were not able to restore from the backup sets prior to August, 2008 where the name was "Machintosh HD".
It appears that TM wants to see a directory that matches the internal drive name in order to allow a restore from it.
I'm sorry for the confusion on the names. I have been using Unix systems for years and automatically include a \ when I type a file or directory name that includes a space.

  • Mac OS X Server asks for SMB/CIFS Authentication

I don't know if this is a Tiger or Leopard Problem. When I try to connect to my server (2*2Ghz G5 10.5.latest) from my laptop (800 Mhz iBook 10.4.11) sometimes I
get a SMB/CIFS Authentication login window. I should get an AFS login window.
When I reboot the laptop it gives me the AFS login.
    Any Clues?
    Thanks, Jim.

    Hi Jim,
I'd try this on the Laptop...
Finder>Go menu>Connect to Servers..., then type in like...
    afp://ip.of.the.server
Once the globe mounts on the Desktop, drag it to the right side of the Dock for a quick Dynamic Mount when needed.
